I had a hard time finding a dog groomer who I felt treated my dog (a pit mix) well and my dog did not fear going to. If you are in the same boat, look no further! The Team at Five Star Fig Grooming are the kindest and most accommodating groomers in the Northwest Suburbs. Their location is right on the border of Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights near the train station.

Willie

So happy to have my baby boy Willie groomed here. My puppy is 7.5 months old, when I dropped him off he was shaking like crazy. when I picked him up he was calm and happy just like the other dog that was there. Did I mention, how handsome he sporting his new neck tie and smelled wonderful! Immediately made my next appt. Thank you for the love you showed Willie and all the other fur babies

Andrea is a phenomenal groomer who will not only groom your dog as asked, but treats your dog as if they were her own. Many times she has caught health issues that my vet couldn't find. There is never any judgment, just honest communication so you can address things if necessary. Down to the tiny bumps and lumps that most dog owners miss. If you have never groomed your dog yourself, you will never truly be able to understand the dedication, awareness and communication that is required to do this job. As someone who has attempted to groom my own dogs, the respect for Andrea is immense. If you love your dogs and consider them members of your family, Andrea is the groomer for you. There is personally not a single negative thing I could say about her (coming from a service based small business owner). Just book your appointment and you will see why she is the best in the area!

The smell upon entering was not wet dog but more like sewage, very unpleasant, as I moved towards the wash stations the smell faded The wash station was dirty, hair still in the tub from the previous user Very watery shampoo (no labels to know what you're actually using) I suppose they dilute it so it lathers more quickly, but if I returned I'd bring my own. Water pressure is great, but water temperature never really got warm. The towels are quite raggedy & not absorbent. The blow dry was miserable between all the fur on the unswept floor blowing around, & not having a place to put my pet while drying. $24/per hour is increased from the $20 I was told by another customer but again I tried to call to inquire on pricing & products and got no answer.

They give you a little shower with hose, a blow dryer, shampoo, conditioner, brushes, a towel, and a few treats. For $20 this was perfect. I wish I had taken some pictures, because it was the perfect setup! I walked in without an appointment and got right in. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. The girls working at DD were friendly and helpful. I'll be back. Highly recommended!

We took our dog here for training, doggy daycare two days a week and boarding when we were out of town. It cost us thousands of dollars. Our pup successfully learned to sit and stay and lay down and all the other things you expect a dog to know. He will do pretty much anything for a treat. Everything was fine for several months. The feedback we received about our admittedly rambunctious dog was routinely positive. They regularly sent pictures and videos of him playing and having fun. Then some of the good, experienced staff left. In hindsight this should have been a big red flag for us. Apparently, most of the new and remaining staff doesn't know how to deal with animals. Suddenly, our dog, which they trained, was not well behaved enough for them. A few days later they called to say he is no longer welcome here. No conversation. No discussion of more training, if that was their actual concern. Nothing constructive to offer at all. They didn't even have the balls to do it in person. Don't waste your time! All they want is your money. They don't give a damn about your pets!

On November 2, I brought my 10-pound mini poodle, Phoenix, to a grooming appointment at Wheeling…read moreDog Spa (737 W. Dundee Rd, Wheeling IL 60090). I was excited to try a new facility, but unfortunately, the experience resulted in a distressing incident that has had lasting effects on both Phoenix and my family. When I arrived, I noticed another dog was still being groomed, which surprised me since I had understood the spa operated on a one-dog-at-a-time policy. (On their website, it states, "We follow the principle of grooming one pet at a time to minimize the stress dogs experience from a long wait time in crates.") The owner, Jane, provided me with paperwork to complete. During this time, I observed that she stepped away from the dog she was grooming, and I did not see another staff member present, which made me uneasy. After completing the paperwork, I returned to my car and saw Phoenix standing near the front door behind a small gate. Seeing him there alone concerned me, as it appeared that anyone passing by could potentially enter the store and access him. Wanting to ensure his safety, I remained in my car to keep an eye on him. Some time later, another customer arrived to pick up her dog. I saw her interacting with Phoenix through the door, and then, to my shock, the door opened, and Phoenix got out. We immediately ran after him, but given the location near Dundee Road, where traffic moves at high speeds, I was extremely fearful for his safety. After about 20 minutes of searching, I received a notification that Phoenix's microchip had been scanned--he had been taken by a good Samaritan to the Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Buffalo Grove after being hit by a pickup truck. When I arrived at the hospital, I was devastated. The veterinarians were uncertain whether Phoenix would survive. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, pneumothorax (collapsed lung), and miosis with scleral hemorrhage (eye trauma). My husband and I stayed with him overnight, hoping and praying for his recovery. Now, more than four months later, Phoenix is not the same. He has become significantly more timid, shakes in the car (something he never did before), and exhibits anxiety in new places. Despite extensive training before the accident, his responsiveness has changed. This event has had a lasting emotional and physical impact on both Phoenix and our family. I personally believe this situation could have been prevented with additional precautions. If the spa has a policy of grooming one dog at a time, it would have been helpful for that policy to be clearly followed. The small gate at the entrance did not appear to be a sufficient barrier to prevent a small dog from escaping. Additionally, I believe steps such as ensuring dogs are kept further from the front entrance or keeping the door locked when pets are inside could improve safety. This experience has deeply affected me. My husband and I had to take time off work to care for Phoenix, and I had to rearrange multiple work commitments. More than anything, I now struggle with trusting anyone to care for my dog. While I am incredibly grateful that Phoenix survived, this incident has had lasting emotional effects on our family, and I sincerely hope that safety measures will be reviewed to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
