My dog got a really nice front nail trim here. The whole experience was stress free for both the dog and I because I was allowed to go in with her so she didn't have to worry what's going on and that put her at ease. The groomer was very good I could tell her clippers were new because she did the job quickly and afterwards there were no split nails. You would be surprised how many times I have to re-do my dogs nail trim at home to get those split nails if the groomer uses dull old tools. Anyways top notch service here no complaints. This shop never ceases to amaze me. Today, one of the employees made it possible for me to bring my dog in the shop to try on a few jackets. My dog doesn't get along with other dogs, and it's been years since she was able to visit a pet store. This very kind employee got a big bag of treats, walked with me to their community room so we could have a private space to try things on, and was so understanding. We've been coming to Pet People for a while to buy dog food and other necessities. They have a great selection of food that some of the big box stores don't carry (including Fromm's). We also really like the selection of healthy and natural treats. The service is fantastic - they really know about the products and they're always so nice to our dog. I brought my dog in to use the Spaw (DIY dog bath) for the first time recently and was very pleasantly surprised by how easy it is. Shampoos are provided as well as towels and a dryer. Minus 1/2 star for the prices. I know this is Deerfield, but sheesh!! Minus the other 1/2 star because I really need help trimming my dog's nails and that's not an option with their Spaw (as opposed to stores with full-service grooming). Overall though, we love Pet People and think that it's a great addition to the community! read more

Strictly based on the dog wash. They offer a great set up with nice shampoos but the water pressure is awful unless you have a dog with a very very short coat. I finally used the hose the clean the floors with in order to get the shampoo out of our dog. Please increase the pressure in the stalls. read more

The staff at Pet People really know their pet products! Whenever I go in to Pet People, they offer great service - asking and answering questions, pointing you to exactly what you are looking for, and they're often able to get samples of food products for your pet to try out. After all; the perks of a premium pet food aren't any good if your pet won't eat it. The friendly and knowledgeable staff helped us out in finding a good freeze-dried dog food for our older Yellow Lab, which is both nutritionally balanced and a little more affordable than the product we were feeding her previously. They also had several of the specialty foods our cat with IBS needed. On top of generously offering to help out us with any questions we had, they gave us a bunch of free can lids to help us out. They have dog grooming stations - dubbed the "spaws" - that look well equipped, though I have yet to try them out. I have seen two or three well-coiffed pooches getting the full spa treatment, though, and they seemed to be enjoying themselves. Like many higher-quality boutique-style pet shops, some of their prices for merchandise can be a bit higher than the big box style stores. However; of all of the high-end pet supply stores, Pet People's prices are probably the most reasonable for food and treats. In some cases, their raw and prepared foods are the same price as PetCo and Pet Supplies Plus. Most of their canned foods and dry kibble are only cents more per can. As such, I try to buy food and treats at Pet People when I can. PetCo usually has the better prices for toys; Pet Supplies Plus often has the best prices on beds & carriers; and Pet People is often tied with Bentley's and Kriser's for treatment product (hygiene, supplements, first aid, etc.) variety and price (if maybe just a little cheaper). If I didn't have the luxury of hitting several of the various shops in the area, I think Pet People would be the one shop I would go to (with Pet Supplies Plus a modest second place). Overall, their prices across the spectrum are pretty reasonable, while offering some of the best service. Pet People is conveniently located in the Deerfield Village Center (southeast corner of Waukegan Rd. and Deerfield Rd.) in the northwestern corner. During peak hours, the parking lot can get a bit crowded - you may need to park further east towards the UPS Store, or behind the First Midwest Bank. Most of the time, though, there's enough parking if you avoid getting too close to the Starbucks (there are often cars standing in the lanes waiting for spots). read more

I love, love, love this store! The staff is super friendly and always ready to help with whatever my needs may be. Liz is great! She usually helps me with what I need. I found out my dog has major food allergies and went there with a list of his allergies. She taught me so much about food and what's best for my dog. I ended up purchasing a raw diet for my pet and it's worked perfectly! The vet wanted to put him on medication to help but I didn't want to do that. I went to PetPeople for a more natural answer. I didn't know about raw food until Liz. I am so grateful for her and all her knowledge! I hope she's there for a long time because she has such great customer service and knowledge about pets!!! I was in need of No-hide chew sticks for my puppy and so I ventured out despite the coronavirus craziness. I was greeted when I walked in and they asked what I needed, grabbed my chewies for me and even handed me a pair of disposable gloves when I asked to look through the basket of sale collars in the front of the store. When I checked out there was a blue box six feet away from the checkout counter. I was asked to wait there until the cashier rung up my purchase and then she moved back so that I could use a credit card so that there was still distance and there was no unnecessary touching involved. The store, their prodcts, their service are all great. My rating is strictly for their dog wash. They supply you with awesome cleaning products and a great ambiance as far as the wash stations. The problem is that the water pressure sucks (for a lack of a better word). I went there a total of 3 different times in efforts to giving it another chance. Unfortunately, yesterday will be my last time to utilize their wash ...unless they do something about the water pressure. There was another dog owner washing their dog and she and I were both complaining about it. It took us an extra long time to wash our dogs due to the pressure. Please fix this as I want to keep supporting this pet shop. read more

This was my first time stopping in. Although, I did call a couple weeks prior just to see the response I'd get to my question. But i assumed I'd get the same old same old response.... "That's really a question for your vet." I did get that response. But I also got SO much more! My dog & cats all use to be on a quality food. Till various medical issues required them to each be on individual prescription food. I absolutely hate giving them prescription food. I also really dislike the only local store where I can buy it. With regularly bi-monthly blood work, my vet was not opposed to switching them back to an all natural food. And while I love my vet, and he is knowledgable on various food products, he is not also an animal nutrition specialist. Anytime I called a company to inquire about options with their line for liver enzyme issues or kidney stones, they'd say to talk to my vet. I'd explain that I did that and I understand they cannot give medical advice, but could they tell me if any food in their line would even be an option fir my animals. Nope, no ability to think of the issues or the options. So when I called pet people, I spoke with Rachel. I explained my animals individual issues. She not only seemed knowledgable, she seemed truly eager to use her knowledge to find some options. OF COURSE she explained that I should not make changes without consulting my vet. But she broke down what I needed to look for I each of my pets foods. She even wrote down multiple options, with percentages next to each, as so which would be a viable option. She even helped me find treat options using the same restrictions. You can just tell when someone really loves what they do and want to share their knowledge on the topic posed to them. And the store is absolutely gorgeous, clean and lots of brands and things that I have not seen at any of the other local stores. Thanks Rachel! I popped in here with my puppy about five minutes before they closed on Sunday evening and was prepared to have to rush through my purchases (because let's be honest- who wants to see a customer walk in right before closing?). Let me tell you, the people working here are amazing! I was looking for a coat for my puppy because of the impending snow storm and they took the time to help me find one that fit, try it on her (given how wiggley she is, they should have been paid a bonus just for this), and made sure she was comfortable walking in it. They also took the time to discuss her changing dietary needs and the brands of food they carry (they even went so far as to give me a sample). All of this was after they had technically closed. The level of customer service I received here has guaranteed that they have a customer for life with me! read more

To begin we don't live very close but when we visit every month or so we stop in because they carry Fromm. They have a buy so many bags of dog food get one free which was nice. When we initially signed up we were told the free bag is in the computer so if you forget the coupon no big deal. Of course when it came time to cash in the free bag low and behold now we needed the coupon - which was miles away. Paid cash for our "free" food and chalked it up to lesson learned. Problem number two. Had a nice girl help us out fitting a harness. Tried to use the harness multiple times did not work as claimed. So about 5 weeks later we were in the area. We still had the receipt, the harness was in new condition, with packaging and could be resold with no issues. But were told oh sorry we have a 30 day return policy which was contrary to what was stated when we bought it and the policy is not posted anywhere. So I guess whoever is working that day institutes their own return policy. Well that was the last time we shopped there. We found a locally private owned shop in Libertyville who carries Fromm and always goes out of her way to get the food if she is out. This place is no better than Petsmart. Actually Petsmart is easier to do business with by far. read more

This is a nice shop and very friendly. All my needs in one place EXCEPT for grooming! Which they continue to push back later and later . It is quite annoying when you are repeatedly told a different date that they MAY offer grooming. If they got that under control it would deserve a 5 Star rating , but until then and lack of knowledge this is what you get . Good luck on your searches yelpers. read more

The staff (Cassidy and all the others) are very knowledgeable about the products they sell and our Corgi, Lolo, is doing great on her new food. Will NEVER go back here. Their baked goods gave my dog a horrible allergic reaction. My dog had the cupcake baked goods many times. I purchased another batch, and she got lumps all over her body, and got VERY puffy. I took her to the ER, and that $4 cupcake ended up in over $100 in vet bills. I contacted them immediately to look into it. Each employee had a different story. One told me that the baked goods are made at someone's house. Another said it is made at a human bakery where they also make dog baked goods. They refused to say that these cupcakes were contaminated. My vet said that it is either the color coating on the sprinkles or the cupcakes had been contaminated by either not a clean work station or by other ingredients that dogs cannot digest. This store gave me a refund for the cupcake; however, they did not help with the vet bill at all. They gave me a number to headquarters and the lady took forever to get back to me. She refused to own up to the fact that something must have gone wrong on their end. It is unsanitary how they just leave the baked goods out for anyone to touch. One time, I purchased different baked goods from them that were rock hard. The lady didn't believe me until I brought them in. Will never go back. read more
