The Petco Vital Rewards Program is a scam. They closed the store closest to me and now I am stuck paying $20 per month for nothing.

The birds are overpriced and not very well socialized. I would recommend other bird stores like Parrot Stars or Just for Parrots if you want something more cheep, and likely more socialized. At Just for Parrots, you can get parakeets for $35 instead of $44.99. read more

Our dog participated in the 6 week Adult 1 dog obedience training. The trainer , Erik H., did a great job coaching the humans through it. He had us watch a couple of relevant videos to get us inside the dog mind. He emphasized repetition and only using positive reinforcement, not punishment, to achieve and enhance desired behaviors. I was having trouble with the Petco app (which is absolute garbage) and John, the manager, took the time to call and get things sorted out for me. I took my dog here to get groomed from Jess and the cut was nice and she looked clean. Then a couple of days later I saw that she was scratching her face and I noticed a big bleeding gash. I knew it was from the groomer so I called and asked for a cone. They told me I would get 50% off of a cone because they couldn't know for sure the groomer did tit. Then When I got home, I really inspected the cut and saw that there were a few long hairs around the edges where Jess stopped cutting her hair. I know that accidents happen and I would have been fine if she just told me that she cut my dog pretty badly, but she didn't and she proceeded to take a $20 tip. I had to pay full price, a tip and 50% of a cone for my dog to get harmed. The worst part is that when I picked up my dog, Jess said "she (my dog) was wiggly" with a weird, almost hateful smile. We've come to the grooming salon in this store for years. We have 5 dogs and we work with the same groomer every time. The salon is always clean and obviously well maintained. The groomer is absolutely amazing. She knows each of our dogs and cares for them almost like they were her own. We wouldn't trust our dogs with anyone else. read more

I used to love coming to this Petco, but the service has just gone downhill. Everyone looks pissed off and miserable. I just went in to get some dog food, the employees were scowling at me. It's a bright and sunny day out, and I literally didn't bother anybody. Why is everyone so mad? I went to go check out and the cashier Dan rang me up. He BARELY spoke. Not even a hello or thank you. I went to the clinic inside Petco and had a terrible terrible experience. The healthy cat vaccine package is a lie. It should be $75 for 1 FVRCP, 1 FeLV and 1 dewormer set. But they don't do dewormer. The combined 4-in-1 FCRVP+FeLV is only $69. They tell you you're saving a lot of money while you pay the same price for individual vaccines. The problem is they lied and when I asked for specifics, they were extremely rude and laughed at me for going after a few dollars. Unbelievable. read more

I am beyond satisfied with this petco location! As the one in Mount Prospect Plaza closed, this one is the closest location to me now! I have a large pet family with 5 guinea pigs and one hamster. My piggies eat a TON so I go through hay and food so fast. Bedding is another thing I use a lot of and it is a pricey item, especially because I purchase Carefresh. Today, I placed an order for instore pickup for my piggies hay. I was also going to order the bedding for the 10% off as I am a college student so every penny I can save really helps! I saw online that the bedding was on sale for 20% off in store so I thought I would order the hay and go and get the bedding when I went to pick it up! When I did, they only had one bag of the natural bedding in the 60L left. So I picked up 2 other bags that were very similar and still a part of the Carefresh family. I grabbed them to see if I could substitute them for the naturals if there was no backstock of the natural. When I went up to the cashier, she explained that there was no backstock and that she would be more than happy to give me the price of the natural bag for the confetti as the confetti is usually 28 dollars a bag. On Petco.com, the natural is listed for 16.49 as an everyday price and usually when I do instore pickup, I get 10% off that price. When I asked to price match all 3 bags for the 16.49 price that was online, the cashier did not price match it and as a result, I was overcharged. I did get the discount for the 20% off the confetti but it should have been 20% off of 16.49, as competitor stores have done that in the past for me. After getting home, I noticed I was over charged and called the store to speak to the manager. Brad answered and I received probably the BEST customer service ever! He refunded my order and apologized for the confusion and inconvenience. As I work retail and customer service, I love to make customers happy and satisfied so what Brad did was exactly that! I am so thankful and will be shopping here from now on!! My piggies and hamster are very happy too!!! I've been going here for some items since they opened. Unfortunately, they don't carry Fromm's or Orijen so I still have to go elsewhere for them. The store is clean and doesn't smell like some pet stores. I am especially pleased with their groomers. I only take my dog to have her nails Dremeled (I do the rest of her grooming myself). She is super sensitive and also just an anxious, but sweet Cairn terrier. Jess the groomer is wonderful -- very calming and gentle and you can tell she really likes dogs. I don't know the names of the other groomers but they seem very nice as well. The location is great. I can leave my dog and run over to Trader Joe's for 15 minutes and my dog is ready to go when I return. Now if they'd just expand their premium food it could be a one-stop shop/nail grind for me. read more

This used to be the old Petsmart and am glad they changed. Overall this store is great, especially those in the saltwater hobby. Not many retail pet chains carry saltwater fish and have the variance in saltwater accessories like this store does. The saltwater fish all looked healthy with pretty competitive prices. This Petco is where the old Petsmart used to be. Since it is pretty new, it is also clean and very spacious. They have cat adoptions and grooming services. The staff are friendly and helpful. I have only positive things to say about this particular location. I came here looking for dog tags and found a huge assortment at very affordable prices ($8-12). I've had a hard time finding smaller dog tags at other stores but this one had so many to choose from. I was very happy about that. I ended up buying a Cubs baseball tag for my dog, which cost $12. I thought that was a very decent price. I also bought a smaller plain round silver dog tag for my other dog, which cost $11. The cashier was very nice and answered all my questions about how the name tag machine works. You buy the name tag first and then put it in a machine that engraves it. You enter the code from the receipt. An older gentlemen, who I assume was the manager, was also very friendly and asked if we needed any help. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. The employees are great, the store is clean, and they carry an assortment of pet supplies. The only thing I could not find is a cat muzzle, which I think most stores do not carry and wonder if it must be special ordered. read more

Months ago my wife took our 48lb goldendoodle to this Petco for grooming. De (DeLois) did a wonderful job of grooming Ringo. He looked great! We were so happy. Ringo turned two years old this week and I just brought him back for a full grooming by De. It says a lot when your dog leaves your side and happily runs up to the groomer and leans all over them. Everyone at the store is so nice to Ringo. I am so happy to have De as Ringo's groomer. De is friendly, professional and does great work. My wife and I enthusiastically recommend De for grooming. read more

Staff is so kind. Both dogs are long haired. Kylie groomed my medium size dog. Jess took care of my large size older dog. Firstly, you can easily set up a grooming appointment online and add what extra services you may need for your pooch. I decided to bring my pups on separate days, one on a weekend, the other on a weekday. I liked how each groomer greeted my pups. Both had kneeled down and gently petted them. That simple act of kindness helped to reduce my nervousness too. They each had asked my preference in cuts and offered suggestions. They both left the salon looking and smelling great. Each dog appeared relaxed, calm and happy. My large long haired 11 y/o dog, who has a little separation anxiety, especially as he grows older, walked back to Jess and touched her hand with his nose before we left (so cute). Also, I appreciated how each groomer gave a summary on how my pups did. This was my first visit to this Petco for grooming and I definitely plan on going back. When paying an extra $30+ to add on the Defurminator to my grooming services, I would expect to not come home having to brush her and vacuum to remove extra hair. She did smell clean and nails were clipped. I just was not happy about seeing hair just sitting on top of her fur when I picked her up. It would be different if I didn't pay extra for it. read more

Horrible and RUDE. First I call to see if something was in stock and the guy on the phone didn't even bother to check. I decide to just make the extra 12 mile drive and see for myself. The section I was trying to get to was blocked off and I guess there was some kind of exercise or training going on with a dog. The lady with the red short hair was like "can I help you with something because you're right in the way of where we are working" really snappy and with attitude. First off, if that's the case then have a sign letting customers know because this is a public store where the purpose is to roam and shop. Secondly, she really could've asked more properly. Thirdly, the whole cat section was cut off. Why would they do the dog training there?? Inconvenience to cat owners. At least if it was in the dog section it would've made more sense. Bad management. You can find me here many weekends since my 2 cats always need something. Always a great time and I love looking around for something that might interest my cats. They always price match for me on the dry foods I buy and check in back when the variety of the Merrick wet food is low (but this was a issue with the company). There used to be an awesome manager named Brandon who worked here, he was so helpful and I always looked forward to seeing him and talk cat business. If you are looking for someone to groom your fur baby I highly HIGHLY recommend Dee!! We have been to her a few times and she always does a great job! Our dog Lucie is an older shitzu and hates getting groomed, but Dee always make sure that both Lucie and I are comfortable. I really appreciate her patience with Lucie as she can be fussy to deal with! All of the grooming staff seems great, but we love going to Dee. She does a great job and really cares for our fur baby! I've been here a few times just to get some supplies since it's near my work and Petco has amazing prices for what I'm looking for usually. The store is smaller than some other Petco locations, but has a good selection. There isn't much staff, only a couple of people there from what I can tell. But, it's never been busy enough to matter. Whenever I've gone I'm always helped by Dave, and I can tell he has a real passion for pets which is why I'm giving this location 5 stars. read more

This store is terrible. I brought my dog in to be groomed. The price quoted me over the phone was half the price they charged me oI donnce I was in there. I had an appmt yet they kept my dog for the entire day. In the end, it doesnt even look like the dog was washed let alone groomed!@ His coat was long in areas and shaved closed to skin like in patches. They did not scissor his legs at all!! When I came in, he was literally hanging off the table by his neck and the :master groomer" couldnt care less until she saw me watching her. It was despicable. If you care about your pet or you want a job well done (especially for the insane amount of money charged) don't go here. It was a horrible experience and I will not go back. I seriously couldve done a better job myself and at least I wouldve known the dog was bathed. My dog still had poop stuck on him! read more

Just went into this store. I did not get greeted by any staff members while being in the store for over 15 minutes. The products do not seem to be organized by any type of planogram. There are dog bones in an isle next to aquarium products next to reptile things then more dog items. In addition the atmosphere was super negative. Aside from not being greeted or helped what do ever, I noticed two different staff members just huffing and sighing when stocking shelves. I'm sure petco isn't forcing you to work there... I will not be going back and will be going to petsmart going forward as the staff members there make you feel welcome. read more

We brought our two dogs here today for nail clips. I'm always a little apprehensive about our Sammy because she can be reactive. We had a very bad experience elsewhere, one groomer held her down while the other tried to clip and as she did each nail, they'd both squeal "oooooh good girl!" and get her even more agitated. But the groomer today was great, Sammy was a little nervous but did fine and it was over in minutes. For $10, I much rather have a professional do it than do it myself, about half the time I nick the quick. Plus everyone in the store was very friendly. read more
