The groomer literally cut my dogs ear and made it bleed and basically didn't go anything about it... we had to make our own appointment at the Evanston pet smart bansfield hospital and have their doctors check her for any damage the next day bc they didn't have any openings at the Skokie the day of the incident or anytime after... The grooming hours are clearly posted, and it says they accept walk-ins with no mention of a restriction on hours, yet they consistently close 3 hours or more before the posted time. Today we were there to get a nail trim over 3 1/2 hours before their advertised closing time, and they were closing and unable to do the nail trim. I was told the staff can't "just wait around for walk-ins." Rather than take our family member to the Glenview salon we drove 18 miles round trip just so Shanya could take care of our pet Lulu. I never had any issues or complaints regarding a groom at this location... the grooming salon team has always done exceptionally well in making my pups haircut beautiful... I'll have to say I regret ever booking with Daniel.. his reviews here made him sound exceptional. I might've gotten him in a bad day but that doesn't change the fact that my dogs coat wasn't even brushed or even groomed. Me and Daniel discussed my concerns and what I wanted with my pups haircut. He made it seem like he understood me with a yea I got you, you won't be disappointed with a smile and everything. But it has come to the point where I need to say something when it comes to an specific associate that can't count 50 small crickets!!!! And this always happens with her , and line i said before, I don't want extra crickets, I want the amount that I am paying for !!! I usually get 100 and she always gives me less, first time was 65 and even the person at the Register told me that it didn't look like 100 which she proceeded to charge me the 100, I didn't want to complain or anything because they were pretty busy but this is the same experience every time I go to their store!!!! So today 2/13 I ask for 50/50, probably was easier for the girl to count, so when I grabbed bag it definitely didn't look like 50, so at the register I asked the " new boss" that's what he told me he was and he agreed that it was less then 50 on each bag ! So supposedly he went and give me the right amount, mind you that there was a lot of dead ones, so when I got home I counted and in one bag was only 39 and the second bag was over 43, like I said I'm not asking for extra but what I am paying for. Shayna is by far the best groomer in the world! She's been grooming my malshi since he was a puppy and she's been doing such an incredible job with him. She is so sweet, patient and attentive and truly cares so much for our pups! She always does an amazing job making Benji look like the most handsome dog in the world. I never buy anything here, but my boyfriend and I always stop in simply to see the cats in the back that you can adopt. No employee has ever given us any problems, and I've never been followed around the store. I've also never needed to ask employees for anything, so that could be why I've never had problems haha! One thing I have noticed, though, is that no employee greets you when you walk through the door here, and no employee asks if they can help you with anything. So that's not the most ideal. We see the other animals, too, but our priority is the cats (even though I'm much more of a dog person). This location does provide grooming, but I've never gotten my dog groomed here because we have our own place we go to. This location also provides training. I'll stick to here for looking at cats, and Petco and Pet Supplies Plus for my pet supplies needs. read more

We were sold a bag of fly/maggot/insect infested huge bag of dog food by this exact store. The return policy is misleading.Was repeatedly told its up to the manager's discretion regarding refund/exchange/store credit on an open bag of dog food (dog food bag was still full). Store refused to do anything and even to help or give suggestions untill I fought back by calling the Petsmart help number. The manager, finally after accessing the receipt said its upto her discretion and she is choosing to give me store credit. I am appalled hearing about all this. I have never had a store be so against helping a customer. We were loyal customers for years, spending 1000s of dollars on my dog. They put up quite a resistance for $40. We were even told that calling the dog food company will not help because they dont care. LESSON LEARNED- even with a receipt, defective (i mean infested) product, the store can abandon you. no customer loyalty from this particular store Happy Ending: Called dog food company directly . I told them i had insects. Their response: would you like a refund, or exchange with coupons. Pet smart can learn a lot from this company. That is how customer service should be. I've brought my puppy for grooming over 2 yrs. Never had a problem with any groomer or their customer service. Pleased with their attention to detail with my pup. Today unfortunately has forced us to find a new establishment. Customer service was poor and the follow up to my concerns was even more discouraging. They always have a good selection of toys and supplies for my babies, but their Guinea pigs (who actually need hay for survival and should have access to hay 24/7) did not have much, if any, hay, while their hamsters/gerbils (who don't need it for survival) had ample hay. We absolutely LOVE Shayna at PetSmart Skokie! There are too many good things to say about her. She goes the extra mile for both of our dogs and makes sure they aren't too anxious or overwhelmed. It is apparent that both of our dogs love her as much as we do. They go right in without hesitation. She gives them the cutest cuts and they always smell so good! My boi is straight out of a shelter and still very skittish. I was so worried that he would misbehave but Shayna is a dog whisperer! When I came to pick him up he was smiling and wagging his tail! Needless to say, his first grooming appointment went better than I ever could've imagined. Shayna is also great at pointing out coupons to use! I will definitely be coming back just for her! I'd also like to shout out to Doreen, the cashier. As a recent rescue, my pupper was nervous entering this new store (he's used to our neighborhood Petsmart which has less traffic and more landscaping). Doreen came out from behind the register and coaxed my boi halfway through the store--until he was more comfortable--to get him to the grooming salon. It seems like Petsmart isn't just a job to Doreen and Shayna--they really do love animals! My only critique about this store is that the manager wouldn't price match the sale on the Petsmart website, so I didn't end up buying the toys my boi and I picked out--I can get them later from Chewy. read more

I like this PetSmart. Not only is it convenient to me, but they have good sales and offer a Banfield Pet Hospital and a grooming service. I think the staff is very helpful and can generally answer most questions, but the reason this is not a 5 star review is that I have experienced the typical "big box mentality" on more than one occasion. That is, if you as someone a question and it isn't "their department" they will generally just point to someone walking by - or sometimes they will page, if you are lucky. Also, you can expect help up to a point (like, they will check stock, but if the item you are looking for is out they wont call another store or offer to order it for you) and while they are not hard core pushy, there is always an undercurrent of attempting to upsell. Other than that, I just had a good experience with the vet service - the nurse and doctor were really cool and my poor sick cat (who had never been to a vet before) was not traumatized or freaked out when he was there. read more

Last night on 10/9/2023 I went to shop and as I passed up the grooming area, I noticed two pups being groomed by two different employees. The one employee I am about to yelp about is a male who was tending to a white pup, which by the way I felt this guy was being a little too aggressive and rough with the pup to the point that the pup was trying to not let this guy touch him ... This employee needs to learn some empathy for these animals. You don't pull in the pups fur and hold it with a tight grip. It's a dog, no matter how difficult the pup is, there has to be a better way to do your job. Glad there's a glass window, I can't imagine how the pups are handled without a glass window and customers not around. So, whoever's white pup was there last night at PetSmart around 7:30ish pm, this messages is for you. We checked out at 7:47 pm and I made sure I mentioned this to another employee on the floor and asked if this report could be given to whoever ran the Grooming department . I don't know if this will help but I just couldn't stay quiet about it. Felt bad and was upset for the pup. Have empathy for any animal because they can't speak! Doesn't hurt to be a decent human being. Managers need to act! If it wasn't for these pups then that employee wouldn't have a job and if this employee doesn't like his job then he should go work somewhere else and not handle any pups. read more

Took my dog here to get groomed twice ... Loved it the first time around ... Second time not so much ... My dog who has loved taking baths so much has now been afraid of baths after our second grooming visit ... They had also told me it would take 2-3 hours, more on the 3 hours side but I get a call 1 hour in saying she was done because she was a short haired dog but why couldn't they have told me that at the beginning when they literally saw the dog at check in? I also asked the groomer in advanced and they confirmed 3 hours ... I also came home to check her ears and they were not clean which is what's included ... My daughter and i stopped by here because she loves looking at animals for purchase. There's parakeets, cats, dogs, and fishes. This location provides veterinary services, grooming, and training- a one stop shop for all of your pet needs. Domestic animals are free to walk around just as long it is on a leash. Helpful staff, plenty of parking since the store in a plaza, and clean/organized setup. I give it 4 out of 5 because I didn't come in veterinary service or grooming/training of a pet. Everytime I come to this location I'm faced with the same appalling groomer, PATTY! Even when the appointment isn't with her she has to put her two cents in. She's very unprofessional and complains in front of me and always speaks to us with the trashiest attitude. My puppy had a surgery and we couldn't brush his coat because he would get irritated and also we couldn't get him groomed until he was healed (also he's a maltipoo so his hair gets matted quickly) So we went in to get his coat shaved and groomed but she was refusing and saying she can't do anything about it and that we should've done something about it before hand. and when showing us what coat we can choose she wasn't helpful at all and complaining the whole time. All I can say is if you don't have the patience or love for animals do not work with them! Seek help for your attitude and honestly i don't know how they hired someone like her! This wasn't the first time and I'm not the only one who went through this with her. Many friends and family have had the same experience at this location and it always comes down to Patty.
