I've had such a mixed bag experience here over the last 4 years. I've had 2 dogs and with my current dog, I've sometimes been super happy with the cut, price, and my dog comes out happy. Other times, I feel like the price is double for no legitimate reason (she does not mat much, and if so, it's on her belly which is always shaved anyway), and my dog comes out with battle wounds. I understand groomers are different, but to not have a consistent experience at a business specializing in grooming is stressful for both me and my dog. To be charged nearly $200 for a 21 lb dog who comes out harmed is not ok. I don't feel confident to trust the experience that would also make my dog anxious about going to the groomers read more

We have a rescue Cavalier King Charles Spaniel ...we have had her a year and only until recently have we been able to touch her and actually now we can take her on walks. Her fur was VERY matted ... we went and spoke with Alex prior to her appointment to explain the situation. He spent time with us talking through the plan about her grooming. He worked magic! She looks wonderful and he said she was just very shy but easy to work on. Thank you Alex .. we were very concerned and you helped to make this work and we have a cute, well groomed girl. My dog is scared of people she doesn't know, and she is a Pomsky, so she has A LOT of fur and needs to be at the groomer's for quite a while. The Laundry Mutt has been really great with her. Our former groomer basically yelled at us for not brushing her well enough between grooms (trust me, I am constantly brushing her). I honestly can not say enough good things about Melissa and her team. Not only are they kind and wonderful people, Melissa is a saint when it comes to caring after your beloved furry guys and gals. I've been following her from store front to store front and I'm glad to see she's finally got a place of her own to call home. If i'm to ever take my two corgis to get groomed, i drive past all the chains and thirty minutes out to make an appointment with The Laundrymutt. Once Melissa and her team are done with my little monsters, they are softer than I've ever felt them before, and whatever shampoos and such they use, smells of utter heaven. I've found myself sticking my face into Kit and Cleo's fur and just breathing them for a few minutes... kinda like when you would smell those dry erase board markers for days on end as a little kid... you know... right? Again, I can not say enough good things about the place. And if you really wanna get your money's worth, make an appointment and then take your dogs out to the dog park for an hour or two before, let them run around, roll in the mud, poop, dead animals, whatever have it. Just enjoy the fresh air and out doors and tire out your pups. When they're all muddy and stinky, take them to The Laundrymutt and wipe your hands clean. A couple of hours later, you'll get back a squeaky clean dog. And, the most important part of doing all that, your dog actually had a less anxious time of being away from you and being at the groomer because it tired it self out, and was able to have a more relaxed time. A tired pup is a happy and care free pup. They've won me over, and the quality of service is unmatched. Think about it in a human example, do you think you'll get a better hair cut in a chain barber shop or salon, or do you think you'll get a better style and hair do at a stand alone salon? After writing a bad review regarding my experience here, Melissa (the owner) called me directly while she was on vacation. This speaks volumes about her level of commitment to her customers and her business. She offered to comp me on a full grooming service. I took her up on it and she really did make it right. My dog looked absolutely gorgeous after the bath and haircut. My father really felt bad and wanted to offer her a tip or pay for it in some sort of way (but she wouldn't let us do anything!!). Melissa really made sure we would be satisfied-and we were. Why only 4 stars? The online reservation system does not work at all. I created multiple accounts (using different emails) and it won't allow me to login to create a reservation. Nevertheless, I will be returning here for future grooming services. read more

We love the laundry mutt! Why then give only 4 stars, you ask? Accessibility & scheduling. Positives: Think "Cheers" for K9's. The owner and all groomers are friendly to humans, but are huge dog lovers. You laugh about that last statement, but in a pinch I took my golden to Petco and I won't ever again! Not even if he's sprayed by a skunk! I'm not sure any of them even enjoy dogs-absolutely NO rapport with my extremely friendly boy. They go way beyond the expected. Advising me of hot spots and remembering that he is very sensitive of his feet/nails. Even let me know about his ears (that are susceptible to infection) were getting bad and cleaned them. He comes out looking like a million bucks! Negatives: If you have no problem calling all the time for appointments, then you'll have no issues what-so-ever. Alas, the on-line scheduling system is still an issue. The first one was flawed, and the second one is not friendly to my mobile devices - which is exactly where I'd like to schedule appointments - on the fly when I'm not being hounded by my "other children". They are also hugely popular and always booked, and we can never get in right when we need to. If I were an organized woman I would resolve this by just having appointments scheduled every 3 months, but life is happening here and stuff comes up and kids get sick and I cannot always get there for scheduled appointments. If these 2 things could be resolved, this groomer would be a 5 star spot. read more

Took our dog Lacey here for a wash and clip of the nails. We could not be happier. The owner and her family runs this place and they do a great job. Our dog was happy when she was done she came back to us happy. I search all over the suburbs for a place that I felt comfortable with. They provide an excellent environment as you don't hear dogs barking or being fussy while you are there. Laundry Mutt will be our dog groomer for as long as we have dogs. read more

We have been loyal customers for over a year and have liked the cuts. Unfortunately they never answer the phone! We leave messages to book, and rarely get call backs. I can understand they are busy, but frankly inability or difficulty in making bookings makes me degrade 3 stars from an otherwise good experience. I wanted to like this place so much because it's close to my house and the reviews are good. The groomer in Skokie I took my puppy to before is too busy and she doesn't have capacity to work weekends anymore. I have been dragging my feet in taking my dog to a new groomer. It's hard to find someone new you trust to leave your dog with and I want to be a regular afterwards. Admittedly my Shih tzu ended up with a lot of mats since I didn't have the best grooming tools at home and didn't know what I was doing for a while. I explained all of this to the woman I spoke to on the phone while making appointments. We talked about what I wanted done and she assured me once I come in we will go over that again. Sounds like a good start. Then I showed up at my appointment, I was not in the calendar. Another woman showed up and had the same issue too so I know it wasn't just me. Now the girl at the front desk said they are fully booked but they will still take our dogs. It was nice...but I should have just insisted on leaving and coming back another time then. They looked like they were just over capacity and my dog probably didn't get as much attention as she should have. The other place in Skokie we went to, the groomer came out to greet my dog personally, held her for a few minutes while we discussed about the haircut and grooming process. She also showed us the kennels she kept the dogs that were waiting since we were first timers there. At the Laundry mutt my dog was hustled to the back of the room full of other dogs. I actually still have no idea how long my dog had to wait and how she was kept while waiting. I just assumed she would be in a kennel or something but it hit me shortly after I left that I don't know for sure and i was very uneasy then. My dog is pretty social but she doesn't do well in chaos. I now wish I had more time to discuss all of this before I left my dog there. If they are that busy and they left the puppies play with each other, was someone watching? When I picked up my dog, the groomer seemed a little defensive in having to cut my dog much shorter than expected. I did discuss the mats situation on the phone before but clearly that conversation didn't get transferred. I was fine with having to go the extent if it was the last resort, but he seemed to want to defend himself by telling us about how I was bathing my dog at home incorrectly. I asked him how I should be brushing then and he didn't exactly answer. My husband then noticed one of my dog's eyes is red (she never had it before). When I asked the groomer about it, he said that it may be from the other puppies because they were playing and she had so much fun. Ok....how did he think this answer wasn't going to provoke concern? Re-assuring me my dog had a lot of fun and was a really good dog doesn't make me less worried that she had unsupervised play and could have gotten pink eye from another dog. I sure hope her eye is just from being irritated with the dryer or shampoo. We rushed to petsmart after to get eye drop so we will see how this goes before bringing her to the vet. They also didn't go over what they did to her. I asked to get her ears plucked, and possible anal sac if that needed to be done (all this discussed already on the phone). Not even sure if any of this was done (they just didn't say anything afterwards) and I paid close to $100 including tip. The gist of this is actually it doesn't seem like my dog had any fun. The reaction when she came out from this place was night and day compared to the previous groomer. At the other groomer, she came out happy and relaxed, didn't even wanna leave. After the laundry mutt, she came out jumping on my leg right away (she does this when she's scared). And she was completely anxious on the drive home. She still seems a little snappy now whenever we approach her, which makes me think she's a little traumatized from being handled at the laundry mutt. I have been socializing her with grooming at home so she is not new to the clippers or scissors. The only reason why I gave this place any stars is because at the end of the day the nearly shaved haircut did get all the mats out and It's good for the summer. But I can't fathom coming back to this chaotic place seeing how unhappy my dog is afterwards. read more

We LOVE Melissa and the crew at Laundry Mutt. I had tried several groomers for my "boys" (a 12# Havanese & a 10# Maltese/Poodle mix), but never saw a reason for loyalty. Then we met Melissa! We have been devoted followers ever since, even when she was much further away. She lights up which each dog that comes to her, and her joy is infectious. The dogs are happy and the cuts are great. She is very particular about the products that she uses as well. I love how they smell & how soft they are when I pick them up. Melissa is very easy to talk to. She will listen to you and work with you if you have special requests. I can't say enough. read more

What a delightful experience! We have two dachshunds and with this breed you normally don't immediately think of professional dog grooming. But our boys, 3 and 9 years old, had quite some matting, especially behind the ears, that I couldn't handle with my brush. We brought them to the Laundry Mutt yesterday and we are so happy we did! The doggies look absolutely beautiful and they feel all soft and luxurious and I think that they love being clean and without any mats! Thanks so much for the wonderful team there! We love The Laundry Mutt! We used other groomers for three years and were thrilled that they opened in Wilmette. So convenient. Great facility and friendly & skilled staff. Our cockapoo loves it too! Generally a quick 2 hour groom & we love the non-cage/open atmosphere. We have never had a bad experience and always recommend it to our neighbors and others at the dog park. We have been taking our 12yo dog here for about a year and have always loved the service and their great work. Our dog, Monte, is old and has bad hips and they've always been super kind and accommodating. I am also grateful and impressed by how they helped us with a recent incident in which our dog was sprayed by pepper spray after a neighbor over reacted when he was on a walk. I can only hope that Melissa has worked out the kinks in her business. We followed her from her previous location in Northbrook. We wanted to support her in this new venture, but finally had to pull the plug as she became more successful she became less organized. Soon the dogs were waiting hours to get groomed and they would be calling us to see if we could pick up later and later. The icing on the cake was giving the wrong hair cuts to the dogs. Sorry, I am back the Northbrook Dog Spa, and loving it. They give the dogs a great cut, and they turn them around quickly so they aren't waiting there for hours. read more

We have taken our dog to Melissa and the gang seven times to various locations but have found that since moving back to Wilmette they have raised their prices! We began paying $42 for our peek/poodle mix which was raised last quarter to $47 and when I called to inquire how much it would be if I scheduled today I was told it would be $55. Sorry gang.
