I have a Samoyed who has a lot of fur. I usually take her to the Petsmart in Evanston or a local groomer. This time only the Skokie location had openings. I paid $100 ($120 w/tip) for a bath, brush and I added on a nail trim and a special "de-matting" because she had a few due to me having been sick a.month and not able to do her regular brushing. When I picked her up, the girl that brought her out said "oh, she's still a little damp under her neck. I quick glance at her neck, but it looked dry, so I left with her as I had to make it to school for pickup of.my kids. Boy when I went to the lot I noticed she was still wet on her stomach, and her backside, her legs!!!! I didn't have time to go back in. They gave up drying her halfway! Which made the dog look half groomed, half wiry. When I got home, and I ran my fingers through her fur, I noticed she still had matted hair behind the ears and on her neck. Her fur was tangled still under the surface. I can't believe I paid extra for those services and literally received a dog half groomed. Not to mention Samoyeds must be fully dried. Damp fur causes skin irritation. Never again, what a waste of 20 on a tip. Too bad we can't tip with the card to dispute, as they only want cash tips..... read more

I took my dogs there to get groomed and the people there were so horrible to my dog that he was a nervous wreck after I picked him up... and they didn't even groom him! When I got there, I already had a bad feeling that things would not go well... either the girl that took my dog was having a bad day or she really doesn't like her job... in which case I recommend getting another job. I explained to her that my dogs have had bad experiences at the groomers before so they had to be patient with them and I guess she wasn't happy about that because once she carried my dog in, I can see it on her face. I get a call about an hour later telling me that she couldn't do anything for my dog. I kind of knew it. While on the way I also get a call three times, rushing me to come and get my dogs. I called another petsmart and made an appointment right away - and he was fine with them. Needless to say I won't be returning here for any grooming services! read more

Don't waste your time or trust them that they will take proper care of your pet. Bad customer service, erroneous pricing, and grooming staff that is not skilled at doing all procedures. I walked out after they told me that they were charging a surcharge for work prior to July 4. They never mentioned that when I made the appointment. Let's be honest, Pets Smart and Banfield is a large corporation that does not respect the needs or wishes of their customers. Consider using a local family owned grooming business that values your business and will want to develop a relationship with you and your pet. This is one of the most pleasant PetSmarts I have been to. The staff is helpful and are always willing to chat. They don't have a ton of product knowledge but that comes with the territory. The prices are very competitive. Lately, however, the grocery store is cheaper. Also, they do not carry my cat's litter brand. Not a complaint, but his litter can be tough to find at places other than Jewel or Walgreens. This store is totally solid. read more

Great service. Great location. I always feel welcomed when I walk in. My dogs love walking the aisles and sniffing around. The store is clean and I've never had an issue finding someone to give me a hand. The store manager is the best I've dealt with. Rare to see a store manger so willing to help. We've been taking our dog here for grooming since he was a pup. The last time we took him he was given a razor burn that took a week to heal. We had to take him to the vet. The worst part was that the stylist had to have known what she did but failed to mention it. This place has really dropped the quality of their work. We will not be back. read more

This place is pretty cool. They have a grooming salon which I have used several times and the service is great. The employees are nice and knowledgeable, but sometimes there are not enough. The line at the register is always long and it gets annoying that they don't have enough cashiers. Other than the cashier issue, I am very happy to have found this store so close to my house. It's a one stop for me since they have the store, the vet, grooming, and even training sessions. I especially love that the vet is right in the store because I do all my pet shopping while my girls are getting examined. We go the puppy classes here specifically for Tara! She has trained all our pups and her skills, kindness and understanding of dogs makes the job of training a puppy easy and fun. Decent Petsmart in the 'burbs. They adopt homeless kitties out, which is awesome. They also had Cat Attract Litter and Wellness Cat Food, which is what my cat likes. The store itself is clean, and that's a plus as well. Probably wouldn't come here too often since I don't live near it, but it's easy to swing by when we're in the northern 'burbs. read more

Re: grooming services. Results vary from awful to barely acceptable, but never worth the $50 they charge. After they cat the pooch's hair (usually unevenly) they don't brush them off so I got loads of hair in my car and all over everything. Go elsewhere. Re: Vet services (Banfield) they are just OK - VERY VERY expensive. I never take my pets there anymore. Re: products, I buy pet food, litter, etc there and they are reasonable priced. They've got a grooming salon which is probably the best part of the store. The dogs I've dogsat have been here and their owner has no complaints, neither do I. I'd actually love to work there, but to shop there is another story. Sure the discount would help but they often don't have any deals or discounts that are really worth going out of your way to find. Also, they only have so many different dog food brands. At least, not as many as Petco. The first worker I ran into was friendly and asked if she could help me. Turned out she wasn't very knowledgeable about what I was looking for but tried to help anyways. I get annoyed when people try to sell you things you don't particularly need which is also something she attempted to do with some dog greats. Really? I was looking for canned dog food and because she didn't know if they carried that brand nor could she find it so she recommended some treats? Dumb. The second worker I ran into was doing some sort of inventory type thing from what I could tell and she right off the bat told me that they didn't carry the brand of dog food I was looking for and told me where to find it. Then, when I was looking for some absorbent pads for an old incontinent doggie ( :-( ) she gave me an honest opinion of the cheapie-r brand being just as good as the brand name and the quantity in the pack was a better value. Not a really exciting review or anything, but good to know if you're shopping around. Cute animals, kind of depressing to see the old adoption cats though. read more

I love this PetSmart it's by far my favorite. Everyone at the store is super friendly. I've been taking my labradoodle there since she was a few weeks old. She did training there with Birigit who is out of this world amazing with dogs. She knows everything there is to know. I thank her inside my own head every single day when I realize my dog is obedient because of her trainer. Also, grooming salon is top-notch. They make sure they do exactly what you asked and do not let you leave until you're completely satisfied. Another person who sticks out a lot is Chris who was the first person in the store to help me pick treats for my dog and a year later remembers us every single time we walk in. Hire new groomers!! I made a stop at this store with the thought of buying something for my gecko, my husband decided to use the restroom which is next to the grooming station. I took a seat to see how the dogs were being groomed. I don't think these ladies enjoy their job. They had two dogs in there and one of the girls looked really annoyed and wanted to yank the dog but because she saw me she played it off. The other groomer was just as bad. She was mad with the dog and wasn't being very sensitive with it. It seemed like she was hurting his skin, probably shaving too close. 5 minutes later, the other dog, a husky ran from her... and the lady dashed to get him, yelling stuff at the poor dog. I am sure he sensed her rotten behavior! After witnessing this, if I had dogs. I wouldn't take them here, even if they were the last groomers in the area! read more

This place has the worst customer service I have ever seen. Every time I go try to get some sort of service the person would stand and do something else. My latest encounter was when I tried getting some fish. All I needed was someone to get me fish and there were two associates at the fish department. I stood in front of them waiting for them to finish what they were doing and they just ignored me. Actually they left so I walked around until they returned. I finally came up to one of them and asked them I needed help and they still ignored me. Finally, I was about to leave that's when that associate asked if I needed some fish. To make this long story short the service is very bad. Go to this PetSmart only if you need pet supplies, but if you need more that just supplies and some help - forget about it. read more

Had a terrible experience here. My 5 month old poodle came in for a puppy trim. The groomer who took care of her was Cecilia. Be careful with this groomer as she has a bad attitude and will take out her frustration on you and your pup. When I came in I almost lost my appointment (now that I think about it, may have been better) she asked me for rabies vaccine documentation. I was not prepared as no one mentioned this to me when I scheduled my appointment. She "called" my vet to get verbal confirmation she was ok. As I was standing there she looked upset to help. She looked at me and said " they're closed" we can't take her. So I was suspicious she even called and used my cell to call them myself. Of course, they answer and provided the verbal confirmation she needed. Annoying! Like I made my appointment in advance, why are you turning us away?? Do you really not want to work that bad? That's not even the worst part, so my puppy proceeds to get seen and she's immediately taken back where I don't see her for the next 2 hrs. Because I got a bad feeling I decided to stick around. 40 minutes into her appointment I begin to hear her cry. Ok, I'm concerned so I walk in and ask how she is doing. This person turns to me and said "she didn't like the blow dryer ". This is probably code for your dog needs some attention and I don't care. For the next hour, I'm watching these girls prance around acting like they are busy and talking about personal issues while my puppy is constantly crying in the background. At this point I'm furious no one cares to go try to calm her down. As they finally bring her out of the crate and begin to trim I am worried about my pups emotional state. The groomer begins to brush her and is visibly making my dog uncomfortable. My pup begins to whine and the groomer gives her zero acknowledgement. Continues to comb her as if she was combining a rag doll. Combs the same area over and over because she's not even looking at my dog!? Like what's going on here? She's looking across the room to her coworker and talking about personal issues. Ok, I'm being patient. I'm trying to tell myself, this appointment can't get worse and she's almost done so keep cool. Then, my pup is agitated and starts pushing away (keep in mind, this lady isn't even looking at her), and my pup falls off the table!!!! Imagine me seeing my pup dangling off the table only being held by the short lease around her neck!!! Omg I can't even put into words my disappointment and sadness of what happened. So I walk in and tell her "can you please be more careful ". She turns around and gives me attitude. Telling me she was doing everything she could. I'm in awe! You see me right? You've been seeing me as I watch what your doing?! How can you lie to my face?????? So at this point I'm staying inside just hoping she will finish soon so I can take my pup home. Such a horrible experience. This lady obviously does not care about her job and has no passion in what she's doing. All I hope is that my pup is not traumatized. Never again will I bring her here. Advice: if you walk in and have a bad feeling, leave. It will get worse. read more

We took our two puppies for puppy class training. We mostly wanted our puppies to be able to play with other pups. The trainer did not really allow any time for them to play. And when she did, it was literally about 1 minute. The lessons could be learned by watching something on the internet. Will not be returning for the next round of classes. read more

Review is for grooming. I'll pass on saying the actual groomers name but this place is terrible. My dog was "washed" and had his hair cut. His hair is uneven everywhere. I could have done a better job with my machine. They also didn't bathe him like they said. His hair is oily and doesn't smell clean at all. It was a waste of money bringing him here. read more

NIGHTMARE!!!!!! I will never go and shop in this Petsmart..EVER!!! And neigther should you!. they have the most humiliating, un-professional, rude and just plain disgusting manager. i was basically acussed of stealing. I went in there with a couple of items that I needed to return and have never been treated this badly in my life. Story goes, I go in there and the only girl they had at the register was swamped big customers and a long line, so I see her, she sees me coming in and since I was in a rush I go straight to the area where I grab the item i need to buy and head to the register. i explain to the girl (who was seriously incompetent) and explain that I need to return two items and buy the one I got with me, problem is that I only have a receipt for one the items and the other one I just could not find. she starts ok and then takes the item without the receipt and takes it to the manager's office with the excuse that they need to look it up in the system. i wait a while and honestly this has never happened before when making a return. After a while, the manager comes out and with an accusatory tone, asks me when I bought it, I respond and told her I could not find the receipt, asked her what was wrong and she only replied that they looked in their inventory and their system said they had 2 in-stock and that she could only find one on the shelf, and since they did not "see me come in" well..... I completelly flipped out! She basically acused me of stealing it!!!!! Very unprofessional, she treated me very badly, and when I was expressing myself and how dare she acuse me, she cut me off and told me that I was not listening to her and that she would only do this once for me and return it. she kept scolding me for not stoping at the register first with the return and I explained that the girl was busy and I was in a rush, I honestly do not look like the kind of person who steals, much less a stupid water dish for a cat that is only woth $10 stupid dollars! SERIOUSLY!?...ARE U F&$/#%***G KIDDING ME??!!!..to make things worse, she screwed up the whole transaction when I told her that my purpose was to return the items, get store credit for the one that I had not the receipt for and purchase the other item with that and just pay whatever difference with my cc. she refused to go back and cancel whatever she did, told me she could not do anything and basially never apologized, in her head she was convinced that I stole the stupid water dish... got my stuff and got out and the first thing I did was call Corporate. I Will NEVER! Go there again and I will take action against this so-called manager. read more

They have lost me as a customer. They sold me a bag of dog food that was infested with flying insects. When I went back to exchange a full bag of insect filled dog food, the store manager refused to help me. She told me that it is up to her discretion to exchange the food even though she told me that the only dog food brand customers have returned due to infestation was the brand I had . She insinuated that I could have purposefully put insects in the dog food even though other customer have found insects in it. I understand infestation happens but the way I was treated, demeaned and accused of lying is unacceptable. She even said I can feed my dog this disgusting, gross, spoiled dog food. Why would a pet store manager tell a pet parent to feed their dog bugs and bug feces? I called the dog food company directly. Petsmart can learn from them. The only thing the dog food company asked was my address to send a new bag of dog food. PETSMART- this is not how customers should be treated. I have better things to do than lug around 45 lbs of disgusting flying insect filled back of dog food trying to do a simple exchange. To treat a loyal customer this way is reprehensible. If the manager treats me like this, I shudder to think the way the rest of the store runs, including the groomers and pet boarding. I wouldnt even be surprised if the Pet Smart groomers and boarding used disgusting hygenic practices on pets or even feed rotten insect filled food. Recommendation: I will never return to this Skokie Store. I am also very wary of every shopping at Pet Smart. Their refund policy can be used to discriminate and target customers. Managers can discriminate based on race, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation and Petsmart policy lets them do this by giving them complete authority. My case in point- the manager refused an exchange full well knowing that in her experience that the only brand of dog food customers have returned due to insects was my specific brand. read more

Petsmart was always my place to go for fair priced items for my dogs. I just adopted a new dog and was in need of "everything puppy". One of the sales people approached me with this "new puppy discount booklet" which was helpful because it also works as a to do list for your new dog. I got everything from food to crate and toys. Discounts were good. I'm a regular at this location, also because the Banfield veterinary is inside the store. read more

I bring our dogs here to get their nails trimmed and all the staff in the grooming area are super great! They do a wonderful job, treat my dogs with a lot of respect and care. Eddie and Jacque did my dog's nails today and really took care. My dog is older and cannot stand up on 3 legs so Eddie holds her up while Jacque did the trimming and grinding. They are so kind to all the animals and do a great job. I highly recommend Petsmart at Village Crossing for nail care and any other pet needs. We buy lots of our other dog treats and toys at this location as well. Best one! read more

The dog training staff at this Petsmart is the best! Abby, who trained my dog is incredibly patient and always remembers my dog when we come back to the store. She does a great job of dealing with each individual dogs issue while keeping the whole class focused. We took two classes with her and would love to take another. The staff is great. They are very friendly, helpful and give out plenty of treats. My dog loves to go in just for a visit. They have so many great products we usually end up coming out with something. The Banfield staff there is also very helpful. They do a great job of managing a line of dogs waiting for the vet. read more

They sold me a guinea pig that had a neck tumor!!!! I am appalled by the lack of care and vet inspection at that store. No animal should ever be sold in that condition! They deserve at least a basic check up and costumers should have full disclosure when it comes to their future pet's health. I brought my dog there to be bathed and bought the extra Top Dog SPAW package. I've only had my dog for about two weeks and am unsure if she was ever taken to a groomer before that, so I wanted to get everything I could. The woman who picked her up told me it would be 2.5 hours because the groomer, Eddie, had three appointments. I told her that I had just gotten her and this was her first grooming appointment. When she went to take my dog, she just went to grab her without letting my dog sniff her first. My dog backed up in my arms and put her paws up. She said, "Really?" and rolled her eyes, then letting the dog sniff her. About an hour and 15 minutes later, Eddie called to let me know my dog was ready and wasn't overly friendly. I was impressed that it was quicker than expected. I pick up my dog and she was acting different, not like her typical self. She greets me when I walk out of the bathroom, so this surprised me when she didn't even acknowledge me. She looks the same and doesn't smell different. Her nails were clipped and her eyes cleaned, but I paid for a premium shampoo and milk bath conditioner, a berry face wash, and a cologne spritz and she smelled like a dirty crate. She smelled more like the "typical dog smell" then when I dropped her off. I thought maybe it was just being in the lobby where all of the dogs get dropped off, so that's why. I get the pamphlet that the groomer write notes in and he put comments like, "Ears need cleaning!" and "Nails need to be trimmed EVERY grooming!" So whatever I told the receptionist who took my dog did not get told to the groomer. He ended his comments with, "Overall, a good girl." Overall? Did something happen that I wasn't told? I brought her home and my parents also looked over the dog and decided that nothing was done at all. My dad called and talked to Amanda (?) who managed the grooming salon and offered us to take the dog herself and do everything asked. However, driving an hour in rush hour traffic after it should've been done right the first time is not right. Eventually, they offered a full refund and took down my credit card information, but I do not see myself going back. Eddie the groomer was not friendly on the phone and I never got to meet him. All grooming is done in the back behind closed doors (although there was one dog when I dropped mine off who was getting a haircut in the open viewing area) and what I paid $50 was not done. I have two stars because I enjoyed the store and the rest of the employees outside of the groomer, but Eddie needs to be reprimanded. read more

I wanted to share my store about a particular groomer that for some reason is still employed At this location. My story started when I dropped off my puppy for a grooming the groomer at first seemed very well trained in her environment. So I thought after apparently my puppy grooming was over I received a call from the groomer say that there had been a accident with my pup. I asked "what kind of accident he is a puppy" the groomer did not properly place my pup in a cage and my pup fell out of the cage, I don't know how he landed but when I got there I went to pick him up and he cried, little to my knowledge I was told that he was taken to the vet next door and that they needed to run test on him. Couple of weeks later no call from the groomer asking how my pup was doing I heard back from the vet and was told he had a fracture on his back. All I said was wow just starting on his life and now he has to have surgery. I complain to the store manager about the groomer and they said they would take care of us a couple months go by and I return back to the vet only to see the same groomer with another dog I was outraged and take him back and decided to go somewhere else with my pup to see a vet. I am only putting her name out there because she apparently is still grooming and I have heard many other stories about her on Facebook please don't let this person touch your dog the groomers name is Patty. Yes she might seem nice but the other stories that I've heard about her are outrageous there has been another client of hers that has not returned to her due to the way she treats her dogs her dog actually fell off the table right in front of her because she was not paying attention. Please be cautious about this groomer I don't know why is she still employed. read more

If there is a negative star rating, I would have given them 5 negative stars. They gave my dog away to another owner. My dad was picking her up and said that she didn't look like her, but thought it was her grooming that made her look different. The other dog came home and was scared and unfamiliar with the house and her name. My parents realize it wasn't our dog and went back. In the parking lot, the other owner was bringing back our dog! Thank God for that because all the supervisor offered my parents was a free grooming for next time. How about for this time for the trauma you caused us and the other owner? read more

When i went there to get decor for my betta, i kept trying to find someone on the floor to give me advice but there was only 1 person at the register who said he doesnt know anything about fish and didnt ever suggest to call one of his coworkers to see if they knew. After giving up on help, i picked a log with soft leafy plastic plant and brought it home to put it with my betta. The log was specifically designed for bettas and was called a betta buddy. After some further shopping i found a coworker and asked her another question. Again she said she doesnt know but didnt bother asking one of her coworkers if maybe they knew. I went home with the log and after a few hours i noticed my bettas fins were torn. Well it ended being the log that was shredding my betta's fins which made my heart hurt. I took it back and luckily the return was easy and hassle free but they should not cary products that hurt animals. probably will never go back there again and just go to pet co instead. The people there always try to help as best as they can and are much more knowledgable and reliable. read more

I brought my dog there to their grooming salon based on reviews my friends gave me. I have a golden doodle. I told then exactly what I wanted. They didn't seem to be paying much attention to what I wanted. I thought they we're VERY rude. When u picked up my dog, it was nothing like I said I wanted. They Shaved the nose down and the whole haircut looked very rushed and sloppy. I was very upset. I asked for a complete refund. I have since decided to take my dog to the PETCO on Skokie blvd across from old orchard mall. All the grounded were VERY VERY sweet and they listen to what I want. I have had no trouble with them. I'm not sure if this place switched store managers,but every time I come here the manager follows me and my husband like we are gonna rob the place blind. .. he basically offers no assistance,just walks around with his Lil fanny pack patrolling. As a family with alot of animals I'm in constant need of food or supplies. I either come to this location or the Evanston location. The old manager here had 0 personality,but had enough sense to realize that we do spend a lot of money here so he was cordial.The new manager,we can't wait to get out of there its so awkward. However the other employees are polite and the store has always been clean. But give your store managers some sensitivity training. Young professional Latinos hate to be followed as though they were theiving gangbangers especially if they spent a good 5k in your stores last year..... read more
