I tried another place in PR but Magic Scissors just seemed more helpful so I went back. I love that they always give advice when I ask for it. They always accommodate us even when I've booked last minute. They are all so nice to my puppy when I go here. And it makes me feel like he's in good hands. Tried to take my rescue there several times. He got a bath only the first time. Second attempt no bath but got a cut. 3rd and final was a "full groom" they didn't do his nails and his cut was uneven. The woman who checked us out was rude and complained about him. Lady - he's a dog. I'd hope people that work with dogs all day would understand that some dogs require different techniques and attention than others. Also being rude to the owners when we're checking out is just unnecessary. Will not be back. Do not recommend. read more

Love the magic scissors staff! Definitely my new permanent groomer. I brought my 5 1/2 month old puppy in for his first full groom and he is extremely shy around people and doesn't like to interact. My boy Ziggy was also very shaggy and knotted up from days in the water at the lake. He was not in good shape and they took great care of him! They said he did very well and they got all of the knots out. Ziggy got sick after his first sanitary groom at Pet Supplies, and this time at Magic Scissors he came out very happy! I can't explain how amazing this groomer is! We brought Chubbs here for a bath and blow dry randomly. Our dog can be quite a bit of work as he is an AussieDoodle and he can get matted at times. Theresa was so incredibly awesome and made Chubbs look perfect! She was able to take him the same day as someone had cancelled and she made Chubbs so happy and handsome!! Thanks, Magic Scissors! I would recommend this place to anyone! I called Magic Scissors right when they opened yesterday hoping for a long shot that they would have a last minute, same day, appointment and they gratefully were able to get me in!! I was quoted on the phone for the price of the grooming and they are very reasonably priced. They are conveniently located in Park Ridge and they have a cute little shop off of Devon. When I walked in I was greeted by a very nice gentleman (I unfortunately didn't get his name) who checked me in and wrote down all of my info as I was a first time client. My dog is great with people and other dogs, but gets anxious walking into groomers/vets with the overwhelming dog smell and of course noise from the dryers so she was a little shy. He went over the top to greet my pup and pet her and make her feel comfortable with him and being there, which is extremely appreciated! He very kindly took off her collar/leash and put on one of their chain collars and basically treated her as a child of his own taking her in the back for her grooming, so THANK YOU to him! From the front desk area you can see the back where they do their grooming and how they hold your dogs while they're waiting/finished being groomed which is great, I love the transparency. They have 2 tables to work on the dogs, and while your dog is waiting they are in a little crate area hooked up by a chain so they're not roaming around or getting into other dogs personal space. I will definitely be bringing my pup back here in the future, and will recommend Magic Scissors to anyone I know! read more

Wonderful local owned business. They have been grooming our dogs for years (one long haired German Shepard, one 12 pound mixed breed). They are amazing. I know it's a great experience for my pups when they gladly run into their spaces when we arrive. My dogs used to shake and run away from other groomers. These lovely businesses owners truly care about my dogs, and the grooming is spot on. Dogs smell wonderful, and they don't shave too short. They ask what you want and deliver. Absolutely fabulous! Any time you move to a new area it's always daunting the first time you try any place 'new'... First time trying Magic Scissors and they knocked it out of the park! I have 2 year old Wheaten Terrier who was an absolute mess. Theresa & her staff 1. Were prompt in getting back to me when I called. 2. Totally reasonable with pricing 3. But most important, they took the time to not only listen to what I wanted for Hugo's groom, but they asked questions to make sure they knew exactly what I wanted. He came home looking & smelling great! They spent a long time on him & in the past I would have either been charged extra for that or the groomer would have just gotten frustrated and just shaved him down. This is the second time we take our dog to Magic Scissors. The first time she had matts and the groomer explained they would have to shave her, which I expected. She was shaved but was back home pretty quickly. I scheduled the second appointment for her because again she was knotted but not as bad a the last time. I waited almost a month for this appointment. Today we dropped her off at about 9:30 for her 9:45 appointment. By 3:20 I hadn't heard from them about picking her up so I called. The person who answered the phone told me they were just working on her and apologized because they were down a groomer. I explained I was calling because my husband works evenings needed to be out the door by 4:30 and I am at work until 7 so we wouldn't be able to get her until then. They then said they will try to have her ready in 30 minutes, 20 minutes later they call to tell us she's ready, we pick her up and she is completely shaved! Now I knew they would have to go short but shaved.. Nope.. this was because they had to rush through the service. I did not call to rush them but simply because my girl was there for 6 hours and I hadn't been updated nor were we informed at drop off that they were "down a groomer". If we had I would have made arrangements to make sure we were available for a later pickup. I expected more from a business with such positive reviews. My poor girl was there for 6 hours when in reality for a shave it should've been way less. The first thing she did was paw at her water bowl. She was clearly thirsty. If they're going to keep them that long they should at least make sure they're hydrated. We clearly will not be back. read more

This was my first visit to Magic Scissors and I had been looking for a new groomer for my senior shepherd mix who needed more time and a gentle touch than he was getting at his previous groomer. I explained to the owner Theresa about his back legs being very weak due to arthritis and age and asked her if she could take her time with him, so she suggested a day where she and her husband could devote more time if necessary. When I picked him up he looked great and even more importantly he did NOT appear stressed out or shaking like he did the last few times I took him to his old groomer. They even offered to help me lift him into my car which was very thoughtful but I am used to doing it myself. I highly recommend this groomer especially if you have a disabled or senior dog who needs extra time and attention. Also there is free parking out front and it was easy to find a spot near the salon. read more

I'm 16 years old, I've gone to this place a few times since I moved in this area, due to the convenience of this place being down the street from me. I really hate this place and I don't recommend you bring your pup here. Magic scissors would constantly use the matting excuse just to shave my dog unevenly and just ugly. Keep in mind I have a small Yorkie mix. They also keep all the dogs in cages for legit hours in total. I honestly just despise this place. Another thing, it was so difficult to make appointments with them every single time. They would either be "out of town" (weird) or just wouldn't he available. I understand about availability but like they would schedule me a month after plus when the day of the appointment came they didn't remind me about my upcoming appointment. Which, again, I can understand but when I came in 5 mins late once, they completely took me off the schedule without calling me to ask if I was coming in the day of. Honestly just all together I really hate this place, never bring your loved dog here. Although I just recently started going to "Precious Paws Park Ridge" on W Touhy Ave in Park Ridge. I'll be sure to leave a 5 star rating with a depth review on them... wow. Just go there for yourself the store is so cute and clean and the dogs have a playroom while waiting for their owners to pick them up. My dog LOVES Magic Scissors! I recently adopted a 6 year old standard poodle. I spent a lot of time researching where to take my new boy for grooming. I could not have picked a better place! Magic Scissors associates really care about the dogs they groom. My 63 lb poodle had never been professionally groomed before so he didn't want to be up on the table so these fantastic groomers groomed my boy while he stood/sat on the floor. Which meant they had to get on their hands and knees! I don't know of another place that would cater to a dog like that! He's always happy to go in and say hello and looks so handsome when they're done with him. I recommend Magic Scissors to every dog owner I meet. I love how they treat my guy. read more

My wife and I had brought Apollo, our Shih-Tzu/Maltese mix to a big box pet store for his first couple of groomings, which ran $75 after an extra "Shih-Tzu premium" (hey, he's only half!). While walking back from Living Coast Aquarium, I noticed Magic Scissors, popped in, and got a card. I called to make an appointment the following week, and scheduled an appointment for a few days later. I dropped Apollo off a bit after they opened at 9, and was told that he'd be ready between 2 and 3 PM. At 2:20 PM, Magic Scissors called and said that Apollo was ready. Apollo's back, with softer fur and nicely tapered furry feet. I'm impressed by the feet, as he didn't make it easy for me to trim his foot fur when I've done it. All in all, we're quite satisfied. Results were better than the big-box store for less money even after tipping. The only downside of Magic Scissors is the limited hours, which could make scheduling difficult if you've got a 9-5 Monday-Friday work schedule, as Saturdays book up quickly. I have a less traditional work schedule, so it's not an inconvenience for me. read more

How did I not know about this place before? First of all I called expecting them not to have an opening for awhile, but they surprised me giving me an appointment the following day! The prices are very reasonable, especially for the service, I have a 1 and a half year old Labrador who is highly energetic, and I let them know that he was still considered a puppy and therefore they would have a lot on their plate, they told me that it was no problem, when I walked in the place was really clean and everyone in the was super friendly and super happy, you can tell they love their job! When I went to pick up my dog they told me that he was a really good boy, to me that means that they were really good to him. I will only use them from now on! So happy! read more

My dog isn't very social. The first time i took him, I was worried that being with a bunch of other dogs would be strange for him. That and he hates baths. When I came to pick him up he was happy as can be and i'm pretty sure the dogs that were still there were barking goodbye's to him. As a side note, they must have some kind of super shampoo because he's never felt that soft before. Now, my dog's pretty clever and remembers places i take him. The second time i took him he was pulling me into Magic Scissors. It's a big change for me because he used to be pulling me away from the Pet Smart when I used to take him there.
