For what I was seeking -- a decent selection of cat food -- PetSmart delivered. But I was disturbed by the sad-looking birds in cages. There are reasons why animal rights groups are urging this company to stop selling small mammals, birds and reptiles. I was also taken aback at the grim, spartan metal cages in which the rescue cats available for adoption were sleeping. I saw no cat beds or blankets in there at the time. If you want to do a good thing, adopt a cat from here. They're supplied by a shelter which does euthanize for space, so they're at risk. If PetSmart wanted to do a good thing, it could stop selling small animals. This location is one of the worst in Petsmart history. My friend went on vacation and boarded her cat here. When she returned, they gave her the WRONG CAT?! Now they can't find her cat because the other family they sent it home with, lost the cat. This location needs to be shut down. read more

First time we have used this PetSmart. We have two dogs, and this was a new experience for them. When we picked them up, they were beautifully shampooed and groomed. One of them didn't want to leave! They apparently had fun. read more

They've been out of my cat's new preferred cat food the last few times, but they have some solid alternatives that work just as well. Their prices are right in line with Chewy and Petco, and they always price match (protip: their website is always a bit cheaper, so pull it up on your phone. If I'm just buying a can or two I'm not going to go through the effort to save 10 cents, but if I'm buying dozens and dozens, it does add up over time and is worth it). Mostly I'm just providing an updated review because of the staff here, specifically the cashier who was there today. She was super cheerful and kind to everyone coming in and at the station. She seems like she really loves her job, so that was a very pleasant experience while I was rushing in during my lunch hour. I was in this morning for an appointment to have my dog groomed, and encountered somewhat less than pleasant experience with the groomer Rebecca. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day or that's just her personality, but I found myself forced to remove myself from the situation before a verbal altercation took place. I would suggest management talk to her about customer service. I can honestly say it left me with a bad feeling, and I will not be returning to PetSmart to have my dog groomed in the future. My rating is not based on the service is received only on poor customer service I was seeing from that particular groomer. Mia was his groomer I can say she did a very good job. My dog went to the PetSmart hotel Wednesday sept 27 to Monday oct 02, all those days I call twice a day for known about him, and all the comments was: he is doing okay, he is fine, happy puppy.. just one person tell me about my dog was having a hard time but was normal for be is first time. Monday before I take my flight I receive a phone call that my dog was on his way to the vet because he have "a little red spot in his neck" the person insist was NOTHING. Then they contact my emergency contact give him different information and saying the little red thing now was an advance infection. They even told my contact "don't pick Fito today because no one will give you inf" OBVIOUSLY I went immediately landed, just for see how awful was my dog, not only the neck all him, was like a zombie falling sleep and so weak. They call the manager, they say my dog arrives with the infection from home, and that's completely crazy, because they check my dog before the check in and he was HEALTHY! That night I took my dog to emergency because he passed out in my house, we call them and ask them if they give him something and they say "WE DONT KNOW, I THINK NO.." $450 after a emergency visit, crying, non sleep, my dog still is recovering. My anger is not Fito having a skin infection, my anger is that he spend 6 days in this place, and they didn't see anything, or check or even get worried about notice something wrong with him. In phone calls an employer tell me several times "I always go to check on Fito and play with him is room" so he didn't realize there??? Or the 30 min session play with an associate??? They didn't see anything then??? They pay the vet visit (of course) not the emergency one, I didn't pay the staying (OF COURSE) and they offer to pay second opinion vet. But who pays my dog stress, or my worries? Is a PET HOTEL. Put employers that CARES ABOUT PETS! I took my cat here often for her nail trim and had a good experience in the past. The nails were short but clean and visible. But today they were cut too deep that they were bleeding! I couldn't even see the quick. She seemed fine at home but it was a coincidence I checked them. I can just imagine the pain my poor cat went through while they were being cut. I noticed there were a couple new employees there too. Please train your staff properly so this doesn't happen. Very upset about this and too scared to bring my cat here again. read more

Hotel & Vet My furbaby is 7yrs old, been indoors all his life. It had been years since I had to take him to the vet so I was nervous. Like when you take your car in for an oil change and ur prayin you aren't told you need a new transmission? Going to the vet is kinda like that. Except the wonderful banfield staff did not pressure me into any added tests or treatments but did take their time answering my questions and providing Booboo with a thorough exam. The hotel took excellent care of my baby while I was out of state for a week. He is healthy and happy. read more

PetSmart is a nationally recognized pet store with hundreds of locations in the US. Oftentimes I don't like posting reviews on big box chains because they're so predictable and boring but now that I am a pet owner, I have to go out of necessity. So here's my two cents on PetSmart... Overall the store is organized and clean. Almost anything you will need for your furry/feathered/slimy/scaly friend you can find here. Everything is sectioned off by signage. Cat, bird, fish and reptile supplies to the left; Dog stuff to the right. Specific items can be located by aisle thus making it convenient to find things without having to ask for help from a store associate. I visited their grooming area today to get Cleo's claws clipped. (NOTE: If you do their grooming services and it's your first visit, bring your rabies certificate with you!) They need that info to put in their systems. I only wished they told me this info when I first went there to inquire about their grooming. When I brought Cleo in and they asked about the rabies certificate, I had to drive back home and come back to show it. Huge hassle. In addition to the grooming section, they have a pet hotel and Banfield animal hospital on location. Can't say much about the animal hospital since we haven't felt the need to use their services but the pet hotel can be pricey. I was told they cost roughly $19-21/night. Eeek! If u have a dog, make sure to bring them in so they can get their free treat at the checkout aisle. The cashiers usually have a bucket of treats on hand to give to your furry friend. We have been taking our dogs to PetSmart for years. We do like 1 or 2 of the groomers, but they have consistent issues with their booking service. For example, we would book about 2 months in advance, we would set it in our calendar, then show up the day and time of the booking to learn that our booking is 'not in their system'. How does that happen? Then our dogs are subject to a rush job which means nicks, cuts, and spots where fur is missing. Is this the groomers' fault? no, this is poor management not insuring their systems are doing right by the clients. Further when I complained to the manager of the Grooming division, they decided to punish the groomer for the computer not keeping out appointment, again, not the groomer's fault and the blame should be put on corporate. One groomer outright marked my dog and I didn't notice it until 48 hours later when I was petting him and noticed some blood on my hand. Either way, we are now looking at other facilities. Sad to make this a bad review, but PetSmart needs to understand that our pets should be treated better no matter what and to invest in a appointment software that is easy for the staff and the patrons. I brought my dog max for grooming on 1/15/21..,,Fred was our groomer, and he did a Great job!! He introduced himself and took his time. Max gets a little nervous meeting new people and new environment's! I loved the way Fred took his time when assessing Max, Once Fred got all the info he needed and it was time for me to go, he stool with max to say goodbye instead of just walking off I thought that was very sweet. Stephanie, manager of day camp is rude and unprofessional. There was a disagreement but she kept trying to talk over me. I asked "will you let me talk?" I asked for her manager. She said "ok but it's not gonna matter because I have the final say so." Instead of finding a solution and being proactive she was reactive and continued to over talk me. I talked to her manager Pedro. He wasn't rude but he never offered a solution, or even an apology for Stephanie's unprofessional behavior. I assume Petsmart does not provide customer service training for their employees. Stephanie's lack of common courtesy and customer service demonstrates this as well as Pedro's lack of concern for an unhappy customer. I'll start going to Pet Supplies Plus. read more

All of these 1 star reviews seem to be for grooming or boarding. Let me expand on their suckiness a bit. Back in December, I bought my kids a guinea pig as an x-mas present. By February, I was starting to get worried he (they only sell males) was sick because of a grossly distended abdomen. Took him to the vet, low and behold HE was a SHE and pregnany with 3 babies and pretty much ready to pop. They refused to take back the guinea pig or the babies and pretty much just passed me around on the phone and kept me on hold. Let's fast forward to this weekend. Guinea pigs were adopted by someone willing to keep them together and I have a kitten (4 months old, came in at 2 months as a stray). My daughter loves taking care of him and went to feed him. Next thing I know she is screaming. Poor thing cut herself pretty deep when opening the can. She put the can down and ran into the bathroom with me on her heels. I asked my son to finish feeding him. He comes up to me and says "I don't think this is how it's supposed to look" and holds up this can in front of me. I swear I gagged. As you can see it is not expired. If you don't know, this is a PetSmart brand of food. Now my daughter's doctor wants her to come in for a tetanus booster. I am posting this everywhere. I am sick of this place getting away with so much and not being called out. They are unsanitary and immoral. read more

One of the nicer, cleaner pet stores, and it's close to our home so we like it even more. They can be pricey, yet we love our kitten and want the best for her so it's worth it to get the better food from here, along with other supplies. Try their grooming salon as well! We had an awesome groomer here but sadly she moved to the Schaumburg location. We still take our kitty to get her nails clipped every month. We walk in and are usually waited on promptly. It's nice to have the store, grooming salon and pet hospital all in one convenient location. (Pet hotel too, although we've never used it.) read more

So, I was very excited to bring my dog for her first experience at the pets hotel and doggie day camp. When I called and talked with the representative from Arkansas to schedule and book her appointment she was very assuring so that I was convinced from everything she said that my Stella would be in safe hands. And I told them at check in it was her first time working with all of this. They told me she would be fine and asked me for all of her documents which I provided. I left her some food as well as a dog whimzee dental treat to eat after she ate. I worked on the day I dropped her off and figured she could have something to do instead of being at home. When I called the first time they told me she's doing fine and having fun. When I called the second time no one answered. The reason for my 2 starts instead of more is due to several reasons yes she had a great time I think, however when I came to pick her up the young lady with glasses and long curly black hair did not appear to be interested to be at work and also was yanking my dog around the neck as she scooted back because she was scared with all of the other dogs close to the door. She was also on her phone and squirting other dogs with water from a spray bottle. How dare you treat her that way. Treat other peoples pets with respect. It only makes me wonder what you were doing prior to my arrival. They also didn't give me a report card as advertised regarding her day and nothing it lists on the website appears to be what happens from the brochure, seems like some false advertising here. I was looking forward to her going more often and we will not be back to this location. I'm very disappointed. read more

For training, Tara is the BEST! We learned so much through the two courses we took and our dog LOVED her. We always referred to her as the dog whisperer lol, she could make even stubborn dogs listen to a command quickly. She worked with our dog because he was not food motivated and gave us advice on alternative training methods. So patient and we really can't say enough good things about our time during training. read more

Petsmart's training program is AMAZING. The trainer, Tara, is top notch. She has done a great job teaching me how to train my dog. Her classes are fun and engaging. After calling multiple times for a grooming appointment with no answer from a living person, the recorded message told me to use the app. so, I downloaded the app, which required submitting my email address FOUR times, and then ultimately logged in. When I searched for grooming, I got the message that to make an appointment, I have to call the store! Are you @#$@#%@# kidding me?!? This store used to be my first go to not until they sold food that contain warrants inside when I went to speak to the manager he said that there's nothing that the store can do about it. He said it came from the manufacture and that the store is not responsible for it. Second, dogie day camp not satisfied with their work. My puppy was shy the first time I took him to the dog camp so the second time they said they won't put him with the other dogs to play because he was shy. I requested for him to be placed with the other dogs to play with. They said I'll try when I when to pick him up I was told he was shy and that he "kept to himself." I know for a fact he is not shy. I had fallen in the parking lot of another store, and had driven to PetSmart to do one last thing before I went home to recover. It was pouring rain out and I came into the store dripping wet, caked in clay, and limping. Whereas the workers at the previous store where I had fallen had chosen to ignore what happened, Leon and Janet immediately came to console me, offered any help I needed without me even asking them, including water and a chair, and even checked to make sure my dog was okay. They went above and beyond in making sure I was going to be alright. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for literally renewing my faith in humanity after it had been lost earlier in the evening. I can't say enough good things about the Petshotel staff. They take amazing care of my dogs. I truly feel like Stephanie and her staff treat Oliver & Rachel like family. Oliver has a lot of issues and can be very shy, but he absolutely adores everyone at the Petshotel! Corie, Danielle, Jay, Ginny, Christina, Jessica... I'm sure I'm missing some of the wonderful people that he adores. I'm pretty sure at this point I could open my car door in the parking lot and he would take himself in! Every day Oliver gives the biggest tail wags as we walk in the lobby for day camp drop off. I've also boarded him several times and have been very happy! We're also taking a class with Tara and are very happy. Oliver is quite the handful and she really understands him. We love everyone at Evanston! read more

Unsure if the last review was for the Evanston location or PetsHotel in general. We only boarded Bailey for the night. I wanted her to have something more than our usual place. The staff was very sweet to her (she didn't want to leave my side). My husband did the pick up. The girl at the desk said Bailey was very good and a cuddler. It happened to be the same girl from the drop off. I don't have her name, but I tell ya, she's a person who can't look at an animal and not say "awww!". Bailey enjoyed her doggy play time. We need to socialize Bailey with more dogs than her friends from the nearby park so their playtime option was good. Regardless, why board a dog and not have him/her play with others. I'd definitely use them again for times I want her pampered. My regular boarder is more affordable so they're still in the picture. But a Pet Hotel is a lovely place. BTW, if you take your dog or cat here and have a good experience, do a review. We tend to complain more than praise in reviews. Had I listened to the ones on Yelp (which are too spaced apart to be credible for me), Bailey would have missed a good experience. read more

We buy our cat litter and cat food here. It's cheap and they stock our brands. The staff can be a bit surly and inefficient, but they work at Petsmart, so what do I expect? Also, they seem to hire differently-abled folks, which makes me forgive a lot. My 3-year-old boy loves this place. He's a bit nervous about the (leashed) dogs that roam the store, but he loves to watch the glassed-in exercise room attached to the "dog hotel" which adjoins the store. He likes to watch the dogs defecate, count the feces, speculate as to which dog will eliminate next, discuss the shape and condition of the droppings, and he also enjoys watching the folks who work there scoop up the feces. I took my puppy today to be groomed and I honestly have to say this was the worst haircut he's ever had. His normal groomer was out so we went with someone else. Only because we were going somewhere and my puppy really needed to be groomed. Now I wish I would have waited because his haircut is uneven Throughout most of his body. We take our two dogs to the grooming salon and Fred is AMAZING. He is patient, kind and gentle with our two dogs. The dogs can be high maintenance and despite their unwillingness to cooperate, Fred consistently provides awesome grooming services. The grooming salon is terrible. I give them one star because zero stars is not available. They don't listen or cater to customer's requests. I have a yorkiepoo who is a frequent PetSmart client, we are new to this location, our former grooming salon is the south loop location. I specifically asked for his tail to be long and a Teddy Bear face (they noted it on his file), yet they shaved him and his tail two blade sizes lower, and the cut him, he now sits sideways. Overall I like this Petsmart because it's convenient and close to my house and sometimes cheaper than Petco. I've also used their Pets Hotel which is affordable and I've never had any problems there however the grooming salon is the worse. I read the reviews about the salon being bad but I honestly didn't think it would be THAT bad. Long story short, unless you want ur dog coming out looking like a naked mole rat don't even bother coming here. The only thing I liked was that I was able to book through the app but I took a chance on any available associate (maybe I got the trainee, who knows). As much as I would like to give a full rant, I won't. Just look at the photo, you'll see what I'm talking about. I've virtually gone to all of the local PetSmarts here in Chicagoland, because I too once had a zoo of a home. I've bought various supplies here, mostly dog supplies and aquatic supplies. More recently, I've been bringing my pup to this location because the other one in Lakeview closed down, and the one near Roscoe Village is just impossible with traffic conditions. Anyway. I enjoy the ease of getting to this place and ample parking. The last time I went here was about a month ago to get my dog a nail grind & ear cleaning. The groomer guy who took my pup came across as a newbie, which didn't really help when my pup was up on the table. He (my dog) ended up whining and wimpering most of the entire session. The groomer also forgot to clean his ears, until I reminded him. Yeah, thanks. Regardless of that, I went back in this past weekend and had another groomer. This groomer was a little more attentive with my pup who now has some paw-dicure issues. But it went better then the last time, that's for sure. She even reminded me of the paw-spa package (nail trim, grind & ears) they were having, so it came out even less. read more

Really disappointed on the grooming side, they treat the poor dogs really bad, they're careless. I was there when two of the groomers where really mean to two dogs. One of them was pulling the hair from the chin of the dog and made him cry, the other one was brushing the ears of the other dog and was pulling it hard. So apparently Pet Smart on Touhy no longer has a cat groomer so they sent us to this location. we had a few issues with this location. 1) they made an appointment for our 2 cats last week for 8am drop off. turns out the cat groomer doesn't start till 12:30! um, 12:30??? so now my cats sit in their crates till then? who starts grooming hours at 12:30? 2) our one Persian got a lion cut, and she came home and looked butchered. I know we cut some knots out of her on our own, but she didn't look good as we found lots of random patches around her shaved areas she missed, and her head was uneven. poor cat 3) our other Persian, well, she is just 6 months old. we asked for a bath and teddy bear type cut............apparently she was scared and wiggled around a lot. so instead of calling us, they just stopped cutting her & said she can't do it until she has more help to hold her down. you don't have more help there to have her held down to get her groomed? instead they left her and said we have to make another appointment to bring her in. so we have to both take another day off work to bring her back to fix her up, and you don't even start till 12:30......how much of an inconvenience is this? I never had issues with the groomers on touhy, who actually had normal business hours to drop pets off for grooming. I wish they'd get their cat groomer back. read more

Everything about this PetSmart is wonderful, with the sole exception being the Banfield Pet Hospital (you can find my review for them on Banfield's separate Yelp page). We take my dog to Doggie Day Camp every Wednesday as my wife and I both work late on Wednesdays. She comes home happy and tired. Every Wednesday we ask "do you want to go play with puppies today?" She knows what this means and starts racing around the house before settling her wiggly butt by the front door waiting for us to put on her leash. When we have to board her, we usually bring her here, and the staff is tremendous. They know her well and are aware of her sensitive stomach and make accommodations so that she doesn't eat anything while she's there that will give her diarrhea. She's always so excited to see them, and it's obvious that they care about her. At $20/day for a full day of play, it's a very reasonable price. If you're a working dog-parent and have a high-energy pup, we highly recommend the PetsHotel and Doggie Day Camp at this PetSmart. They care for your dog and your dog will be thrilled to make plenty of new friends while you're away. read more
