This is our go-to Petsmart and the nearest to our home. This location also has a Banfield pet hospital, and that's a particularly good thing if you have a Banfield annual health maintenance plan for your pet as my son does for his dog. We usually only come to a Petsmart to get dog food for the dog's occasional visits to our home. Our last visit here though did involve picking up some starter feeder fish (29 cents per fish, and they are used as food for bigger fish if not sold) for the kiddos as their first pets and the friendly staffer here was helpful and a fun guy. The grand-darlings were given full responsibility for daily feeding and weekly water changing and they did ok I guess, as those fish lasted a week. They are on their second batch of slightly bigger fish, and they're still alive after a month or so, so they are improving their pet owning skills. I scheduled a nail and paw pad trim with a groomer I usually see here - I will not name her. I arrived right on time at 1 pm today. I arrived, and the other employee who was very kind checked me in. I asked if it's with the groomer to confirm. And he said "no it's with me today." I responded "oh I thought I booked with ____." The groomer heard me say this, and I didn't realize she was at the back of the room grooming another dog as i said that, but she spoke with an attitude "it's fine I'll do it." And then she muttered something unpleasant under her breath, complained, and left the room. I just took my dog and left. I am very disappointed and upset. Even in prior visits when I scheduled appointments with specific groomers, my dog came back not looking good at all. So, it makes me confident that they never give you the groomer who you specifically schedule with. That is not fair. In my prior visits too they would also cut my dog somehow. Probably because they just gave him to new groomers who are not as experienced. I already learned how to groom him myself because of how awful the grooming department is here, but I have a hard time with his nails and paw pads. I cannot emphasize my frustration enough. read more

Took forever to find help paying for my items and checking out!! No one at the cashier. Then the items I was purchasing needed to be checked out by Banfield. No one sitting at that desk either!! I was second in line and it took HALF AN HOUR to pay for 4 small cans of pet food. Horrible!! I understand if it is busy but there were a total of ten customers throughout the store. Rotten customer service and wasted a ton of time waiting at empty customer service stations. This is why I will go through Chewy instead. read more

This lady behind the desk said I'm early and there's someone here that scheduled before me and so she will take her first and she will take me after them. But there's another lady behind the desk who called and tried to help me, she said sign this and that and she will be right back. I am writing this on behalf of my daughter. She purchased a bearded dragon for my Grandson's 8th birthday. Immediately after bringing it home today she noticed a malformation on his body that would most likely seriously affect his health. She is a medical professional so I'm confident she wasn't imagining anything. At the store they told her "THIS IS NOT THE ANIMAL WE SOLD YOU," claiming theirs was a different size. Naturally my daughter is highly offended by this accusation, and became angry when they would not reconsider their accusation. She did raise her voice . . . what normal mother wouldn't?? THEY THEN CALLED THE POLICE CLAIMING MY DAUGHTER WAS CREATING A DISTURBANCE. She ultimately got a refund and left. This store and it's Management has no morals or ethics. They absolutely do not deserve your business and will surely never see mine or my family's. read more

I love this Petsmart. Back in 2017, I was practically despondent because my hamster, Gingersnap, had to be put down suddenly because of a stomach tumor. Amy, a long-time employee at this Petsmart, was so thoughtful and informative and practically comforted me in my grief. She helped me pick our Lord Asriel, who became my new love for two years until his death in December 2019. Today I adopted two more hamsters at this Petsmart and once again Amy was there for me. So thankful for the thoughtful and helpful employees here. I don't normally recommend buying hamsters from pet stores, but the ones in this store are in good hands. The best part? When I came home, without any prompting from me, without me having told her the name of the Petsmart associate who helped me, my disabled 16yo daughter said she wanted to name her new hamster Amy. The groomers are phenomenal. Kind, patient and hard working. My dog had 2 accidents and was nervous. They calmed her and even helped clean everything. The staff do a great job overall. read more

I recently realized how understaff the store is, like many places now. Despite being rushed and backed up, the man at the cash register today (12/16) was very friendly and doing a great job. I worked here in the early 2000s and we had a ton of staff. I commend those working there and doing the best they can to keep the animals well looked after. read more

This grooming salon is staffed by a bunch of young party girls who seem to always look for ways to cancel your appointment so they can get out of work - especially on Fridays and Saturdays. I've watched them tell customers that their dog was too old or the customer arrived a few minutes late etc. Also ridiculously expensive. We now use Dog In Suds in Palatine. read more

Brought my puppy for their first grooming experience and they were great at trying their best to make sure he wasn't scared of any of the weird sounds or devices. Prices were reasonable and they have a puppy trim for dogs less than 5 months! Lost two stars: Only downside is that online the puppy trim and add on of top dog package is supposed to come with a bow or bandana but I never got one which is somewhat upsetting. Not sure if it's just this location or if they forgot. Which also makes me wonder if they actually did the full top dog package at all with the whole nail trimming and teeth brushing. He definitely at least got a trim considering he went there fluff ball and when he came back, I could actually see his eyes. Would I come back? Probably. Making an appointment was so easy especially online and I was able to schedule pretty much right away. Next time I'll ask about the bow/bandana though. I was really looking forward to it! read more

I took my 6 month old Pomeranian for a regular trim, we asked to only trim his beautiful long and fluffy hair, they completely shaved his fur with clippers. They have been only using scissors because we don't cut his hair that long, Pomeranians are known for their long beautiful fur and they completely shaved him. It was like he did not look like our dog when we picked him up, also I have noticed that his paws were rougher than usual it was like they filed them because they have scratch marks on them. Would not recommend this place for your dog, they will ruin his hair and not get the job done. read more

Took my dog in to this location for the first time. I have ALWAYS taken my dog to a PetSmart to be groomed and never had issues. I got the call to pick her up, and they said that she was unable to get her right paw done because she was moving a lot and didn't want her to fall off the table. I replied that her nails really needed to be done because they're long and I don't want them to crack. There was no offering of maybe someone else stepping in and trying, or an offer to come later. I had to say I paid for a service and we need to come up with a solution for it to get done and take her back in a few hours when there wasn't as many dogs and that their was a couple dogs in there that could of been aggravating her. Which should of been the first thing I was told, not that it was the fault of my dog. I come to pick her up, and she was still wet. I asked why, and she said she was being aggressive at the dryer. Once again, my dog has NEVER had issues with the dryers, or being aggressive. EVER. The only time she would be aggressive is if it were to ever be necessary. I also looked at what portions of her nails were done, and they don't look like they were much taken care of properly at all. Never returning to this location ever again. read more

Marty and Corrina and FANTASTIC at their jobs! I brought in my English bulldog, Winston and his Lhasa/Maltese fur sister, Bella. They both needed to be washed and shampooed with the white furball needing an expensive haircut. Marty was amazing and ensured that both dogs were in tiptop shape when I pick them up. Both were completely showered with TLC and all the bells and whistles they should receive during a grooming appointment. Thank you for loving my fur babies as much as I do! Really bothers me when you ask an employee a question like "where can I find this dog food, I bought here 3 weeks ago?" and you can immediately tell by the look on their face that they could care less about helping you. Then they give you a wishy-washy answer like "well if you can't find it, We probably no longer have it", only for me to go back to the dog food aisle and find the bag. Do NOT take your CGC good citizen exam here. The trainer has absolutely no idea what she's doing. She brings her own service dog (I think the name was "honey") to participate in the test. Her dog was super aggressive and growled and snarled at my shepherd. She couldn't control her dog and I have no idea how she got her dog certified. Do not take any classes here. read more

Stars keep falling for this location. I hate to repeat what I wrote in my initial review but every time I come here I get depressed and angry. They have a fair amount of employees scattered throughout the store yet the checkout line seems to always have only 1 lane open. I would say 90% of the time im here and thats about 1 time a week the line is at least 5-6 people deep. Some with dogs which im sure makes it even more of a hassle for them waiting around. I buy crickets once in a while but do everything I can to get them somewhere else since the "large crickets" they have arent large at all. But to repeat my first and main gripe 1 more time in hopes the manager is reading... HAVE A FEW MORE LANES OPEN. instead of having 5 employees walking around asking if you need help have 4 with the other on lane 2 or just hire 1 more person because its a real pain waiting there with a bag of dog food wasting my life. They only have opened another lane when it gets really backed up.... ounce of prevention is worth more then a pound of cure...if multiple lanes were always open you wouldnt have the back up problem and most importantly customers can check out with ease instead of writing reviews like this one. ugh read more

Ive been coming to this location for close to 8 years now. In those 8 years, i've also purchased a few pets from here. All I can say is.. NEVER buy pets from here. NEVER take their pet care advice, do your own research. It is insulting. Not only to me, but the animal you've put at risk by providing the wrong advice. The amount of inconvenience, vet bills, and headache ive had to take on because your animals are A. Unhealthy and have genetic disorders and B. Give the wrong advice and equipment is unacceptable. Instead of coming here, I reccomend animal rescues such as pet finder or The Animal Store just a couple miles away. read more

scheduled a groom for our 15 year old shorkie mix. he is blind and lays around all day. the first appointment was cancelled because the groomer called in sick. they rescheduled and i got a call the morning of his next appointment saying that all the groomers called off work that day so I needed to reschedule again. I rebooked for a week later and the groomer scheduled was 30 minutes late. I got a call when he was partly finished and was told that he was too nervous and needed to be picked up. when I picked him up he looked like he was almost finished. I was told it was too dangerous for my innocuous sleepy pup to continue. I was still charged 30.00 for his service. when I got there all the grooming tables were full with another dog waiting for intake. the situation was annoying and waste of my time. it clearly had more to do with over booking and unreliable groomers without expertise than dog behavior. he has never had a problem at the groomer before. I will say that the last time petsmart did his groom a couple months ago they did a wonderful job. no problems at all and he looked like he does when I take him to the more expensive boutique groom salons. read more

Located in the Four Flags shopping center, Golf and Milwaukee Ave., this Petsmart has loads of personality. The employees are very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about any type of pet. If what you want is not on the shelves, they'll go back and get it for you if in the stocking area. There is a Banfield vet service on the premises that I have used a few times with great success. I also like their grooming services. jamie runs the grooming services, and she really knows how to get you pet happy about getting a bath! Jamie and her staff will have your pet ready for "the big screen" in no time, and will call you when ready. With all the pets in our household, this Petsmart has been a godsend in price, helpful information, and products! read more

I like this store better than the Petco near me. I just haven't been able to find anything at Petco since Petsmart seems to have a lot more items for dogs for cheap. We saw a lot of toys and clothes that were on sale, so they were a steal for me. I was surprised to see that they also had prescription food - both dry and wet!! They had specific kinds that my dog eats for half the original price of the same size we get. It's worth checking out if you're not having any luck with Petco. read more

Most of the small animals are in horrible conditions. Most of the staff do NOT know anything about the animals that they are selling. The betta fishes are in tiny containers when they need big temperature controlled tanks. The hamsters are all piled up together when they are solitary animals. The guinea pigs are NOT given enough room. They also sell horrible, small cages to their clients. All they care about is money, and they do NOT care about animal welfare. Most of the employees are very unkind. They get their animals from horrible, immoral animal supplier mills. Please do NOT buy your animals or their cages from here. This PetSmart store sold us a guinea pig with seriously ringworm. When I brought the guinea pig to home, he is a little scared so I did not hand/pet him a lot, only 2 short times. The 3rd time, in 17 days, I found he has a large area in back with no fur and really seriously skin problem, we didn't see it because it is covered by fur of nearby area . We were so struggling to bring it back because not sure whether they will treat him or just give him a peace death. Finally I decided to bring him to vet, cost $200 first, doctor did culture and called after one week that he do have ring worm. I was so so mad but can do nothing than cleaning all the cages, our whole house, and spend more $$$$$ on medicine. I HATE PETSMART now!!
