First, this wouldn't even be a 5 rating if it weren't for Richie. I've been shopping at this location for DECADES. This man is a master at his trade. Small animals and fish. Even knowledgeable on breeding spiders. Always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I breed fish as a side income and a way to pay for my addiction to the aquarium hobby. Anytime I've had questions Ritchie has been spot on. I always fact check and thank GAWD as other chains and even locally owned stores don't employee staff as knowledgeable. Fish and aquariums take time, patience, knowledge of species, plants, and water cycle. You can't take someone's word for it just because they work for a pet store. Often times I've been steered wrong which can be expensive if you don't fact check. Never had an issue with Ritchie. Trust his wisdom and knowledge through the years. He's always been on point. I love shopping and running into him to talk fish. This review may sound setup but let me assure you it's not. I've watched Ritchie work for years. This man keeps this store in check. I don't know him personally. Just as a customer. I've come in to shop to find this branch in chaos. Tanks looked trashed and filthy, dead fish floating everywhere in the tanks. Not one employee doing crap to rectify the situation yet the store was dead maybe 1 or 2 other customers. Of course I asked where Ritchie was because I knew this wasn't his character. "On vacation" gone for the past week. That poor man coming back to that crap! Seriously pets supplies plus! TAKE NOTE! Went here a few weekends ago (10/2) to use the dog wash after going to the Mosquito Lake Dog Park, we are from north east Ohio and this was our first visit. When we went to use our discount card the woman couldn't find our pet card and was very rude about it. She also was on her phone at the register and using her watch to text the whole time we were at the register. Not the usual experience we have at a Pet Supplies Plus and was disappointed. The dryer was also was not working on the dog wash. Only good part was plenty of towels and the dog wash was clean. read more

If I could leave a zero star for this store, I would. Also, this is my first online complaint. My dog's grooming was for 11 AM and it took 4 hours. I called to ask why this was happening and asked to speak to a manager. I was able to speak with Randy, a shift manager. I made a complaint about how long the appt was taking and my disappointment in the company in general. I also had another appointment scheduled for in the evening and missed it, thinking it would not of interfered. Not only was Randy extremely rude; He did not once explain why it was taking so long but hung up on me, when our conversation was not over. Nor did he apologize or say a single nice thing to me. When I picked up the dog after 4 hours, I waited in line at the register to pay and noticed only two employees (who were at the register) were the only people in the store who had name tags. Randy, Colton, (both shift managers I found out) and all other employees (about 5) were standing at the front of the room on their phones not helping a single customer. The only reason I could tell they might of been employed is one or two of them had a lanyard or a walkie talkie and I asked the person at the register to confirm. Finally, when I paid for my dog and picked her up, she barely even had a haircut. She apparently had a blueberry facial and yet there were eye boogers and drool all over her face. Her face wasn't really even cut. When they pulled the hair out of her ears, they weren't careful at all and I had to apply medicine. She apparently wasn't given water, since as soon as we made it home she wouldn't leave her water or food bowl. I even asked one of the nameless shift managers (no name tag) if she was given water or anything and he had no answer for me (not Randy or Colton I guess). FYI I asked him if he worked there and if he was a shift manager. If a single person from that store would of even apologized or said anything nice, I would of let it all go. I received a coupon in my email for 30% off freeze dried pet food. My cat eats the Stella and Chewy brand, so I proceeded to order a couple more bags at 30% off. I chose curbside pick up and it was amazing! I received an email that my order was ready the same day I placed it, and the next day I picked it up. The employee who brought it to me was very quick. I could not have gone in the store and gone to the shelf to pick it up myself in less time! He was so super quick and polite when he came to my car. I also like shopping there in person. There is always someone available to help! You also need to sign up for their rewards program and earn extra products or coupons towards your purchases. I went into the store the other day looking for supplies for my Guinea pigs. I went up to the front to ask for help, and I see a blonde with heavy eyeliner popping pills in the front booth with the door. Her and another girl with green hair and a boy with blond hair where in the booth with her, laughing and hanging out. I ask the employee with heavy makeup for some help and she rolled her eyes at me, and her whole attitude went to flat and uninterested. It made me feel so uncomfortable, I just grabbed my stuff and left. As a business owner, I have never felt this unappreciated in a store in my life. Very unprofessional taking medications on the open floor. Unprofessional that you're employees are there to hang out more than work. I'm not saying you are losing a customer, I will definitely be coming back for the young and older men in fish and for the amazing young lady cashier. Poor follow through on autoship orders. Three times they have cancelled my dog food order because they couldn't fulfill that order. Email to corporate about this issue took 2 days to get an acknowledgement of receipt of the complaint. They said they were forwarding it to the appropriate dept., but it's been a week now & I have heard nothing more. Efficient they are not! Nor do they seem to give a damn about maintaining good customer relations. Going to try Petco to see if they are more professional & efficient. read more

Tonight I came into this store extremely concerned about my dog's skin irritation. Richie calmed me right down with his wealth of knowledge and offered me options. What could have easily been a late-night trip to the animal hospital turned into quite the pleasant experience. Richie even went so far as to check his schedule next week, so I could follow up with him personally and let him know how Duke is. If that isn't customer service, I don't know what is. Compared to my Boardman store, the dog shampoo felt different and took more to get a base to on my dog. Like the shampoo was weaker than normal! Did not enjoy that . I continue going to my original to bathe my dog. Try to get more done but I learned not all pet supplies are the same, imagine that! read more

This place is a great place to go for things you need for your pup to be happy. In addition, we purchased a fish tank and accessories for my 9-year old for Christmas at a great price. First, we usually purchase the various chew things for our dog as he loves to gnaw on just about anything rawhide, pig ear and cows hoof. For Christmas though, my wife bought the ole' mutt two Christmas stockings, one containing several different rawhide's and the other containing various chew toys with the squeakers. He loves these things as he chews the toys until they rip open and he can actually get the squeakers out and run around the house with them in his mouth. Goofy dog! Secondly, we purchased a 20 gallon fish tank for my oldest son. The staff was great help as they told us exactly what we needed to go along with the tank (i.e. chemicals, pumps, rocks, decor, etc.) After we set it up, we waited a day to allow the water to stabilize and then my wife took our son to pick out fish. Again, the service was stellar as the girl they spoke to seemed to really know what she was talking about. My son chose two little sharks that will grow to about 6 inches. We get them home and they seem to be at home in their new environment. This was on Dec. 26th. Fast forward to yesterday, Jan 5th, the sharks are floating. My wife takes them back with receipt because there is a two week guarantee on the fish or your money back. She speaks to a different girl who tells her that the shark we chose sometimes do okay in a regular tank but they usually prefer "brackish" water. Would have been nice to know this ahead of time because we would have chosen different fish that would STAY ALIVE! My wife got the money back and is waiting to take my son back to pick out different fish that will survive in the set up we have. Overall, we like this store and will continue to shop here. This would have been a 4 star review but the lack of information or omission of information about the sharks brings it down to about 3.5 stars. read more
