I was hesitant to write this review because I love my City of San Dimas. However, I was there for a nail trim for my dog and the Salon Manager, I think her name was Ellen was so incredibly rude. I think I disturbed her smoking break since she was immediately outside the salon door smoking (inappropriate for patrons entering) when I arrived which forced her to get back to the salon to service me. After being incredibly rude because she was bothered by calling Pet Smart to verify Rabies stating no one answered and telling me she could not service my pet and simply walked away to the back. I called Pet Smart and got an answer on the first ring. Riley overheard me talking to Pet Smart about my experience and immediately stopped grooming the pet she was busy with to help me. Riley seemed to care more about the customer service. I feel bad for anyone who has to work with this woman. Needless to say, while wanting to give my business to San Dimas, I will drive to West Covina or Glendora to Pet Smart since they are incredibly nice. I will say though, employees of the store itself are very helpful and kind, especially Tim. I should have said something the day I was there. Hoping this will initiate change in the service to the Salon itself. read more

I called made an appointment and when I arrived they told me there was no appointment and the girl who attended me was rude and seem like she didn't want to do her job she had 2hrs left from her shift and told me she wound take my dog because it was too late .. I have been bringing my dog Samson to the puppy class for a few weeks now. Maggie is our trainer and she is amazing. She has really helped my husband and I to learn the basics of training and raising Samson. I look forward to class with her every week. It is not an easy job to work with so many dogs of different sizes and strengths and especially people with all of our different personalities, but she does it with ease. She breaks down the training each week and personalizes it for each family. She always makes sure she follows through and has high expectations. She is never in a rush and takes her time to make sure each of us understands the education before moving on. It is clear that she really cares about pets, their families, and her job as a trainer. read more

Always enjoy this store! Staff is very friendly and they have many different brands compared to competitors. Many of the toys particularly for small animals is amazing! Most of the toys and cage accessories I find here are very unique! Today I picked up a carrier, which will be a placement for when I clean my chinchillas cage. Also picked up a small log hideout! Also I appreciate their habitats in store, they are way more spacious and practical. Coming from a chinchilla owner myself small animals and their well being are very important! Kitten Guru!! Saturday evening, my boyfriend and I discovered a kitten in a sewer drain. Fire department came out to rescue her, they had to use the hose to flush her out. She was wet, scared, skin and bones. Went straight over to Petco, where we met a wonderful and knowledgeable employee by the name of Tara. We walked in before closing with this tiny wet kitten. Tara set us up with a Kitten starter kit program, that provides free kitten litter, discounts on formula and kitten food. She provided us all the basic necessities to get this kitten on the right track. Recommended soap to kill the fleas on her. Once we got all our supplies, Tara opened up her formula box and got a bottle ready in the store and this kitten started CHOWING down. Tara foster's kittens on the regular and said that our little orphan looked pretty good given the circumstances. I would have been lost without her assistance or spending an incredible amount of time on YouTube doing diy research. To report: it's been 3 days and this kitten has an appetite like a fat kid lovin' on cake. She's feeding every 3 to 4 hours and doing well. My boyfriend is taking the lead on the feedings, even driving back home on his lunch to feed her (Awwww what a sweetie of a guy right?). We are thinking of naming her Arrow, as we found her off of Arrow hwy and San Dimas. The fire department wanted us to name her DrainO though. Thank you again Tara. read more

Very unpleasant experience. If seemed fine at first, I walked in and they greeted me, I smiled and said Hello, then looked over at the fish. The guy at the fish was helping someone so I looked around for bit and then I saw a fish I wanted. When he was done with the customer he never even acknowledged me. I called over 2 times asking for help. I finally went to the guy and he was rude and unfriendly and he asked James to go help me. Then James was OK at first, I told him which fish I wanted and at that point it had been awhile and I needed to get going. He started asking what size tank? I said I have several tanks difference sizes I'm an Aquarist( experienced with fish habitat not a Novice.) and I told him again what fish I wanted. He rudely asks me again saying he needs to know . So at that point my patience had worn thin. He was so rude, I just said I get asked that all the time I said I'm an Aquarist I said I have a 50 gal and 3 other tanks. I'm sorry if I'm impatient but that other guy was so rude to me he just ignored me now you are being rude. This James started arguing with me telling me he can be rude to whomever he wants!!!!Then he threatened to deny me the fish I wanted. I told him look im a Customer why are you picking a fight with me? I don't know if he was on some kind of power trip or just hates his job. I'm mixed race maybe he was racist, I can't figure it out ...But my heart started racing from the experience and horribly hostile treatment. I said I just want to get my fish, and my order that I placed and leave.. he said "good I'm glad your leaving and don't want you to come back.. It was almost like James decided to make sure I had a very unpleasant experience. I Started shaking from the unpleasant experience and will be contacting Petco Corporate office soon. read more

this is one of the worst pet stores I've ever been to, coming here for meal worms for my leopard gecko I decided to look at their care for their reptiles and other animals, they take disgusting care of their animals, each leopard gecko appearing to be starving with their entire bodies looking like sticks, the fish tanks had multiple dead fish on the top, all of the rodents, even bigger ones like their multiple guinea pigs in what appeared to be as small at 10 gallon tanks. This store was beyond disgusting In care I couldn't support it. DONT SHOP HERE. Shop online or even better go to a non chain pet store and support people who know how to take actual care of their animals. This is animal abuse and it's disgusting. read more

I paid $60 for nothing! I took my dog here to get groomed, made an appt over a week in advance. The groomer who I booked with came highly recommended. Unfortunately my dog came home with one of the worst grooming he's ever gotten. He's a highly trained dog who went to school for over 2 years and is a licensed service dog, so there is no way he was unmanageable. The cut is choppy and uneven. His nails and face are not trimmed properly. He had eye crusties still on his face when they said he was ready to go . The job was simply not done. I paid for a service that I did not receive. And, the groomer who provided the service was curt and barely professional in her demeanor. I ended up having to take my dog to another groomer to have them fix this issues. The fact the PetCo has not refunded my money... I don't recommend them to anyone, they'll take advantage of you. read more

I met the most knowledgeable fish person here. I came in looking to pick something up for my bird and decided to check out the fish (I usually like to just look anyway) Jeffrey, the fish expert guy at the store, is simply amazing. Told me all about what I would need to start a good beginner aquarium and how apparently gold fish are horrible starter fish, the beta is the way to go heh. Anyway, although I bought no fish or fish accessories, this guy knows his stuff and is quite wonderfully pleasant. I have incredible respect for someone who works in sales and doesn't try to sell me something I can't handle. I was only passing through at the time a while back but the experience stuck with me so I figured I'd say something. Guy needs a raise for sure lol. read more

I recently made a trip to Petco in San Dimas to buy my son a hamster for his birthday. I've never owned a hamster and needed help picking out the hamster as well as all the things I needed for the new hamster. Luckily, Tim was working that day and he helped me immensely. He was so patient and helpful. I had a lot of questions and he took his time to help me and answered all my questions. He mentioned that he had hamsters growing up, so I trusted all of his advice on the maintenance and care of the hamster. I ended up picking out one of the hamsters and put him on hold until I could come get him the next day. When I came back the next day to purchase the hamster I was helped by Jose who was very nice as well. He even helped me get some extra savings on the things I was buying by giving me a coupon book. I was so impressed by the service I received by both of these gentlemen I had to write a review. They both made the whole process of owning this new pet a little less stressful. This place is a hot mess. It's very small and doesn't have a good variety. There is stuff everywhere, pallets of food and such. My daughter had to go to the bathroom. She goes in and there are roaches in there. She finally finds an employee who just shrugged it off and said they have a lot of roaches. Customers where all over the place, standing around waiting for help while all 3 of the staff where in the back office. What a cluster. I won't be back! read more

Can't complain about anything. The customer service is always amazing. The aquatics specialists on hand are very helpful. I have a gorgeous tank and I can't thank all the staff here enough for helping me get through some nasty times establishing my tank. The live plants are always fresh and their shrimp are hearty. I also enjoy their betta selections they have some gorgeous bettas. read more

if you order online for home delivery and Petco does not ship everything, you cannot solve any problem with any local store, you must deal with their customer service in PHILLIPINES!. NO one speaks English. There is NO supervisor. No manager in the stores or online. This is the 3rd time that I have bought more than 1 item and did not get everything. They can only ship one item in each box, so you will get multiple boxes regardless of when you order them together or not. I have wasted a lot of time calling 2 different stores. No manager. I called customer service 4 times and still "Angel" or "Vince" cannot locate any help in their customer service center to help with finding my missing product AGAIN!. Please do NOT buy. I warn you. NOT worth it. They cannot ship correctly or completely. And it is a bigger hassle than paying at PetSmart! read more

This place is amazing! I brought in my pitbull dash and had allot of questions about training collars. Sarah the dog trainer was so patient and taught me how to use a leader and helped me put it on my crazy dog. Once her class started at 7 jeff (I believe it was jeff) stepped in and showed me some useful tips to keep the leader on and how to walk him with it. We stopped in here to look at pet supplies and I took a look at the pet rats they have for sale. The rats were extremely ill, exhibiting signs of advanced respiratory illness including sneezing, violent twitching, sucked-in sides, and wincing in constant pain. I can only assume the staff are completely incompetent and don't care about the basic needs of the animals they are trying to sell as pets. I feel very sorry for anyone who buys a rat from Petco and has to deal with the heartbreak of watching it suffocate and die after the staff failed to treat it. read more

We took our puppy here for his Parvo/Distemper /Bortadella vaccine. Compared to other Vets their cost was much higher but since we were already there & it includes wellness my husband said to go ahead. The vet didn't check our dog at all but just proceeded right away & gave him the shots. Our puppy even cried during the shot. They just didn't seem to care. Wellness here was just taking the dog's temperature & weight. We will not be going back. read more

I recently bought a fish tank, fish, and all the accessories for my 4-year-old son's beginner fish tank. Twelve hours later, the fish died. As the day they died was Thanksgiving, we had to wait to call the store as it was closed. I cleaned out the tank so that my son would not have to look as his dead fish. When I did speak to the store manager, Amber, she said that couldn't do anything without a picture of the dead fish and a water sample from the tank (for two five-dollar fish). As I had already cleaned out the tank, I could not provide this. I think that they should go over this policy with the customer when they leave especially because they say they have a 30 day warranty that they did not uphold. I don't mind rebuying the $10's worth of fish; I mind that they don't go over or back up their warranty, and that their customer care was abysmal. Will never go back to Petco again. read more

Although I typically shop at PetSmart, this PetCo does carry some things I prefer over PetSmart. I love the dog treat snack bar because you can buy as many or as few as you want and you can combine different kinds. I recently had an excellent experience while trying to start an aquarium. Stephen recommended a tank that was slightly larger, more energy efficient and cheaper (it was on sale) than what I had in my cart. He was very friendly, gave me some tips for setting everything up and said he would be glad to help me select my fish when I'm ready to fill my tank. Much better customer service than the 3 PetSmarts I went to. I also love the cool brand merchandise they carry like the Star Wars, Sponge Bob, etc. I left one star off because I feel the store could be a little cleaner and also I had to ask for prices on a few things because they weren't labeled. read more
