We made an unexpected stop in the Riverbank Perko's last Saturday. I had just visited a nursery in Stockton in the pouring rain, and with my man wearing his favorite pajama bottoms, we were hardly a vision of class. The staff didn't even seem to notice, and three of them worked flawlessly together to deliver amazing service, hot food and continuous coffee which my rain-soaked body really appreciated. Perko's has some of the top breakfast food around! The restaurant is modern, clean, and convenient. Staff was attentive and accommodating to requests. Perko's has the typical diner type food with some vegetarian options. At the time I went you could pick four entrees for 9 bucks. The portions are generous. Overall not a bad diner. The servers were friendly and the food didn't take too long from order to table. The portion size to price ratio was a little eh for me. I feel like I've gone to other diners and got the same thing for the same price but received a larger portion size. If you want to go to Perko's, I suggest going to a different location. I've always been happy with the one on Oakdale and Sylvan, and it's been in business for decades. I was excited about this place when it opened in my neck of the woods. But it seems that every time I ate there there was a problem. From cold food that should be hot, to hair that should be on someones head, not in my salad, my parents and I all agree that we probably won't go back the Riverbank location. read more

I love coming here with my grandma. Perko's is totally the place to take grandparents, isn't it? I really like the chili in a bread bowl. My waitress accidentally brought out clam chowder in a bread bowl, but quickly remedied the situation so my Grammy didn't even really need to wait for me to start eating! I like Perko's food and I have been to nearly every restaurant they have. I have even frequented their sister restaurant Huckleberry's. In dining at them all, the one constant has always been so so service. On numerous occasions horrible service. Rarely a food issue, always poor customer service. Over the past few weeks I have dined at the Riverbank restaurant and what did I get? Excellent service. Was I in the right place? Looks like Perko's, tastes like Perko's, but the service was unlike any Perkos I have visited before. From the friendly greeting as I walked through the door to the quick ordering and timely drink refills, it was great. The few times I asked another waitress for napkins, straw, etc., I wasn't met with the usual rudeness I have come to expect. No Ma'am, just honest to goodness friendly service. What every place should be. I would give this particular Perko's 5 stars if I could but the food doesn't warrant that. Food waffles between a 3 and occasional 4. My only complaint, their pricing is a bit high for diner food. Specials are good but if it is not a special, the average meal is $10-$13 bucks. Drink and dessert puts you at $20 or more. If you've had bad luck at other Perko's give this location a try. You will be glad that you did. read more

It has been a couple of years since I've been to Perkos. I met my father and his friend there for lunch. They have changed the decor, and I liked the country down home feeling, especially the bucket on each table and the "newspaper" menu; and I'm not one for county decor, but this was endearing. From the minute I arrived I was pleasantly greeted, and the waitresses were very nice and accommodating. They were also wonderful with my father and his lady friend; the 3 of us enjoyed ourselves. I sensed that the employees enjoy working there and were proud of their restaurant; their work ethic was apparent by the pleasant service, quality of the food, and the cleanliness of the restaurant. Our waitress handled our food order with a smile and even helped the 3 of us with dietary substitutions. We all ordered different items from the menu, and found the food to be excellent. They could easily make country gravy with no sausage and if people really wanted dead animal sausage they could ask for it to be added. When a group of people can't decide on which restaurant to eat at Perko's Cafe is always the best go to option. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner all day! They provide customers with hearty food and the service is great! Not only is the food amazing, but it is also brought out in a timely manner. The Perko's in Riverbank is especially spectacular. In the two times I have been here I have been provided with both excellent food and excellent service. When first entering the restaurant, I was greeted warmly by the staff. They all smiled and said "hello". I was seated right away and in no time my order was taken. While I was eating my meal, the waiter would continually approach the table asking if I needed anything. I felt very taken care of and felt as if I were an important customer. On my first visit to this Perko's I ordered the mint hot cocoa. It was the perfect temperature when it was brought out, so I was able to sip it right away. The ratio of whip cream to beverage was great. The flavor was very nice as well, it was not too syrupy but also wasn't watered down. The hot chocolate was nice and smooth and was probably the best hot chocolate I have ever had. On my second visit I ordered the sweet potato fries. They were delightful! There were two things that made this dish outstanding. The first is that they came out nice and warm. Second, being that they were the perfect consistency, slightly crispy but not burnt. Sometimes it is hard to find that happy medium when cooking sweet potato fries. I'm not sure if the ranch served with it was house made, but if it was, kudos to the chef. It was creamy and savory, which was a perfect contrast to my sweet crispy fries. The food served at the Perko's Cafe in Riverbank is comfort food. I felt a sort of warmth while eating there. The warmth did not just come from the temperature of the food, but also came from the service I received. It might be weird to say, but I felt right at home in Perko's Café. A restaurant needs to have the qualities of both good food and good service. This Perko's has nailed both of these things when it comes to their dining experience. On 5-13-2015 my daughter and I stopped at Perko's in Riverbank on our way home from fishing. Long day and it was 8:45 when we got there. We ordered dinner and had been served and was just about done. Waitress came by and filled up my tea and no more than 30 seconds later, a second female came up and said "I'm going to ask you to leave now and I need you to pay you're tab right now so we can close our registered. I was quite surprised as I was not aware they closed at 9pm, that's probably something they should have told us when we walked in at 8:45. I had to ask for a box to take the rest of my dinner home and finish eating it. I have been in a lot of restaurants while they closed before and have never been treated like this. This Perko's is probably the best in the area. They're always crowded, but I've never waited very long for a table, even on Sunday afternoons (when it's packed with the pious-and-starved). They also seem to have better specials than the Modesto ones, and certainly better service. If you're going for breakfast, try the Western Omlette. read more
