GOODBYE LONGTIME, RELIABLE FRIEND! I've enjoyed Mimi's for more than a couple of decades--it's been a go to choice for lunch, brunch, and dinner! The atmosphere has always been enjoyable, and the food always satisfyingly delicious. On 1/17/26, I treated a dear friend to dinner after a matinee show at the Gallo Center. We both enjoy Mimi's--sadly, not any more!! My French Pot Roast entree was luke-warm over piping hot mashed potatoes--huh...hmmm...?? Her Hibachi Salmon entree had undercooked rice--WHAT?!! (Chef's night off?? These are worse than NOVICE mistakes!!) This was prime dinner time on a Saturday evening--and, by-the-way...no manager in sight. The place was unusually quiet--few customers, only sparse regulars. As a side note: our server was being given recommendations for work at other restaurants by a couple of her "regulars." She wasn't too concerned about our substandard entrees; said she'd tell the kitchen, but "couldn't do anything about it." WOW! Management not available--probably also looking for other work?! Our dessert--apple crisp crumble--was tasty, yet more soft than crisp. I figured, WHY leave a review--the place was more-than-likely going under...?! This evening (4-months later) I was surprised when Mimi's came up under recommendations. I thought they'd be closed by now. Be forewarned--Mimi's is NOT what it used to be!! SO SAD, but I will not be returning! (My late father was a successful and celebrated chef from back East. As chain restaurants go...Mimi's was "ON" his list--especially the Modesto location. Cute brunch spot, average food. I enjoyed my time at Mimi's Cafe but was not really impressed by the food nor service. The menu is huge, with all-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner items, pastries, and offers catering. The seasonal menu looked interesting but I didn't have the chance to try any of those items. The crab cake eggs Benedict was not too bad. It seemed like the crab cake itself was not premade/frozen. It tasted pretty fresh! The portion was large but unfortunately lacked flavor. The hollandaise sauce didn't have that zing or zest that a good hollandaise sauce typically has. The potatoes were a bit dry and were not well seasoned. I feel that the service was slow considering the restaurant was nearly empty. My group sat at the table for an awkwardly long time before our order was taken. The food also came out pretty slow too. When the condiments were brought to our table, I was grossed out. The ketchup bottle was super sticky and grimy! The decor in Mimi's Cafe is super cute. It is decorated like a grandma's cottage house. Very vintage, very cute. I'd love to give Mimi's another chance. read more

Had to stop by and check if this place is still the same as before. Am a bit disappointed that our server was not attentive at our table today. Food was great and the interior of the place is country style. This place takes reservations and since Valentine's day this weekend might as well call and make a reservation for your date. We had planned that this would be our lunch on the way home from our Yosemite vacation. We especially like Mimi's because if they have decorations, they are nailed down tight or it's minimal and out of arms reach. Our son likes to play with everything around him and the less there is the easier it is on us. So Mimi's gets a thumbs up for that! We had a really nice waiter who made us feel very comfortable and allowed us to look over the extensive menu. We made our selections. He brought our food and even gave us a bread basket while we waited with some little carrot cake Madeline's. That was a fun special treat for us. We got filled pretty quickly and we're on our way. This is a nice Mimi's that won't disappoint. Highly recommend. read more

I am the type of person that does not like to go out and get basic breakfast items. I was intrigued by the two entrees on the seasonal breakfast menu and decided to go with the Birria omelet as it was more breakfastsy. The Birria was delicious and the omelet as a whole tasted similar to quesabirria. The consommé(Birria broth) was unfortunately cold, but had great flavor. The toast and potatoes were fillers. I was a fan of the diner cabin vibe it gave off and upon entrance was festively decorated for thanksgiving. Lastly, the service was a little slow for the amount of customers, but the staff made up for it by being very friendly. I was not wowed by anything, nor disappointed, but will give it another try at some point as many items on the menu looked delicious. read more

Mimi's Café is your classic choke-and-puke breakfast joint--you know the type: smells like syrup and burnt coffee, filled with retirees arguing about cholesterol meds and grandkids. And honestly? I loved it. I ordered the chicken fried steak, which came out looking exactly like it should: crispy, gravy-smothered, and slightly confused about its own identity. Was it great? No. Was it terrible? Also no. It was breakfast. It was hot. It was edible. I didn't get sick. That's a win. The coffee was doing its best impersonation of actual coffee, the service was friendly, and I didn't leave angry or hungry, so Mimi's is doing something right. Nothing fancy, nothing shocking, just solid hangover food with a side of beige decor and predictable comfort. Would I go back? Sure. The food service was not too good. We went there and there wasn't any people. After we came in people started coming in. The waiter became alive. The reception was the not same when we came in. Ordered cheese burger on the brioche and it was sloppy. There was too much dressing. As you can see the excess dressing was on the edge of the plate. It brought to me with the dressing on the plate. I have always enjoyed eating at Mimi's café but sadly this is the one left standing I guess. It's a shame because the food has always been decent here but I guess not every business can escape the effects of a volatile economy. But at least this Mimi's is still here and I thouroughly enjoyed the pleasant experience I had here with my family today. We were seated promptly and our server Tracy came out a few minutes later. She was a pleasant and outstanding server but what was even more impressive about here is her great knowledge of Spanish which was so good she had no problem understanding what my family wanted to eat for lunch! My family was hungry and they all ordered the same thing but I was thirsty and just wanted to eat something sweet so I ordered dessert and a Strawberry lemonade. Tracy also suggested a mystery drink which turned out to be a Cranberry lemonade which was pretty epic. I love cranberries and I eat Craisins like crazy so this drink was definitely up my alley and between this and the tiramisú I ordered I knew I was going to go home happy. Sadly Tracy comes up to me a few minutes before serving dessert and SACRILEGE! There was no tiramisú available! I was bummed so I ordered the next best thing, a Molten Lava Cake, which turned out to be a worthy alternative. The cake was a good portion size, was drizzled with hot fudge and was served with vanilla ice cream, sliced strawberries, and whipped cream. What can I say about it? It was good and hit the spot! All in all I had a great day and a great time at Mimi's. The atmosphere and people there are great and I will definitely eat here again the next time I am in town! read more

My Mom and I had lunch, well I had lunch my Mom had breakfast. She had her usual 2 eggs with extra crispy bacon and I had the lunch Trio half sandwich with salad so I ordered the chicken salad with salad w/ honey mustard dressing. Excellent chicken salad omg it had dried cranberries walnut celery very very good the salad was also Delicious real green leaf lettuce not just iceberg and the dressing was also good. I can't believe I found a Mimi's out here. I haven't been to a Mimi's Cafe in years. I used to go to the one in Hayward until they closed it down and once I loved to the valley I thought I wouldn't find one again. Came here the other day for lunch in between clients and there was so much nostalgia. I had the pumpkin pancakes and the sliced apples. They were delicious!! The only regret was not getting some pie. Suzie was the best server you can ask for! We came in this morning for an early breakfast and she greeted us with a smile. She was so happy and helpful. The meals were yummy. Quiche was flaky and fresh, muffins delicious- carrot and the blueberry were tasty. The bacon and eggs were cooked well and arrived hot. Cappuccino was creamy and hot. We love to come on Sunday mornings and sit at the bar. Natalie is an amazing server! So genuine and kind she remembers customers and their situation which is important because it makes customers make important. The menu is French based but very delicious! The menu has a full variety of choices! The crepes are amazing but so are the omelettes! The specialty coffees are delicious and if you add a little liquid courage to it then it only elevates it even more! They are great for families, couples, and/or large groups! Sundays do get extremely busy, especially after church hours. But if you can get there early and sit in the bar or the bar area you'll be lucky enough to have Natalie be your server then you're winning!!!!! read more

Unfortunately, we don't have a Mimi's near us. My wife and I are fond of Eggs Benedict-- Mimi's gets it right with a Hollandaise that has just the right pop that most competitors don't get. (We just had a potato pancake Benedict that was surprising and quite good.) My wife loves their corn chowder. I really like the pressed chicken (not sure if this is still on the menu.). We both give hearty thumbs up to their muffins. After a particularly long streak of mediocre to bad coffee, Mimi's is very good-- and, they have French vanilla creemer, which we are particularly fond of. A special note on our waitress, Suzie. Ever bright and cheerful, Suzie caused us to laugh when she told us there was no need to hurry after paying our bill "we're open until 8 o'clock(tonight)." I was meeting my mother and sister on Mother's Day. A day of next level chaos for restaurants. The service was spectacular. The person seating us was super friendly. Our server, Daisy, always had a smile and suggested items on menu items. I hadn't been there so didn't know the menu and needed recommendations. She came back a couple times. Once after we had a moment to start eating to make sure everything was satisfactory and then near the end to see if we needed anything. I hadn't the Spicy Mary which could be spiced a bit more for me. Then had the Pain Perdu with Mixed Fruit. It was delicious and filling. My sunny side eggs were cooked perfectly. As it was Mother's Day, there was a lot of children including a few screaming babies. Probably not as loud on a normal day. Certainly a place to comeback when I'm in town. Hopefully, I can get Daisy as my server again. read more

Love Mimi's. They have seasonal pancakes and muffins right now. I did the pumpkin spice pancakes and had part of the pumpkin muffin. The pancakes are thick and you get four. But the star of the show was the pumpkin muffin. Awesome. read more

After being treated horribly at a nearby restaurant, we decided to give Mimi's a try (it's been at least 10 years since the last time we came). Immediately greeted with a smile and "good morning" by Tracy (who ended up being our server)! The omelette was flavorful, and we were able to substitute for things that our diet allows. Restaurant was clean and had great decor! The manager, Gabriel, was wandering around making sure his customers were happy; he even sat with us for a while so we could tell him our story. Food: 5/10 Ordered the salmon with potato au gratin and rice, the salmon was cooked well done it took some work to actually chew on a piece instead of the meat be tender and flaky. The potatoes were too greasy and tasted like leftover potatoes. Service: 7/10 We came after lunch rush but it still took some time to have someone and take our order as well as bring us enough utensils for the table. Our server was really nice though. Ambiance: 7/10 The place is designed so weirdly like there is a lot of space in the front when you walk in but cramped in the back where you actually ate. The tables and the seats were a little sticky and needs some more solid cushioning because it felt like we were sinking in our seats as we ate. read more
