Everything was delicious, but they could use more work on the paella. The rice was overcooked or almost stale. The only thing that saves it is the aioli it comes with. We enjoyed some local wines and sort of made our own little wine tasting selection. Definitely order the lamb and finish off your meal with coffee with ANY dessert and you can't go wrong. And we can't say enough about the bread. Get it in some form - as a sandwich, with the cheese, with butter, with escargot, anything you want! Just be sure to get the bread. Lastly, the people there are so nice. Service is excellent even in such a small place. There are just 2 servers but they never rush you. I had such a good experience getting a to-go lunch while running errands that I made it back for dinner with my husband for our anniversary the same night. I really enjoyed the veggie sandwich in my picnic lunch, which was set on fresh, crisp baguette and had very satisfying savory flavors (possibly olive oil, cauliflower and zucchini with a mild, creamy texture accented slightly with turmeric?). The cute and filling boxed meal was like a gift and came accompanied with a chocolate tart, cookie, pasta salad and a piece of delicious brie. It was really filling and definitely offered flavors I crave. Dinner was also enjoyable, though I forgot the try the beef bourgogne that I had heard was amazing. I enjoyed my perfectly cooked fish, rice and veggie plate (I loved the lemony beurre blanc with salty capers, yum!) and my husband loved his cassoulet. Stopped in last night for dessert after we had dinner elsewhere. Wanted to check the place out. My husband ordered the Belgian chocolate mousse which was delicious, and I had one of the shortbread tartlets (with chocolate, almonds, and caramel) it was also tasty. The tartlet is a small portion, but it was perfect for me and reasonably priced. If you wanted a bigger dessert you could always order a couple of them. The mousse was a larger portion that two lighter eaters could share. We ordered coffee with our dessert which seemed to be a good quality coffee, but their little French presses are kind of a mess. Tons of grounds in the cup which is not desirable when drinking coffee. Maybe need to get some different French presses or just go with a standard brewed coffee that you can serve folks with their dessert. The service was good, but it did seem like maybe they were a little understaffed. The two people working looked like they were running around a bit trying to keep up with everything. Went here for the first time for our anniversary. We have wanted to go for a while and it was wonderful!! Started with the escargot and it was so good. After that my husband had Cesar salad and I had the split pea soup. Both were amazing. For entrees we had the tri tip and chicken piccata. Both were great and for dessert it was the chocolate mousse. This is the hidden gem of El Dorado County, I can't say enough good things about it. The food is the best, hands down, you should be paying hundreds of dollars a plate in a Michelin star restaurant for food this good. The service is very personable and always makes you feel welcome. The small farm cafe feel is great whether you want some amazing French cuisine after a hard days work or your going out for a special occasion, you never feel out of place. Everything on the menu is to die for, but some highlights are the beef bourguignon, seafood paella (especially if you ask for the spicy cream sauce with it), and if you really want the best of the best the rack of lamb. Came on Sat around 11:15 to beat the crowds since they don't take reservations. Luckily there were still quite a few tables when we arrived. The food was pretty good. My fav was the spicy shrimp. My coq au vin was tender and not too salty. Husband had the all day fixed menu and his broccoli potato soup was great. Too bad his meat was on the chewy side. My favorite dish is the coq au vin- it's so so so delicious and it makes you feel so warm and full afterwards. I cannot say enough good things about the food there! Beware- there are only about 4/5 tables inside and 2/3 outside. There are no reservations so you just need to show up and hope there is space! Even small towns sport some of the best culinary surprises and Allez is a gem that is worth visiting whether it's for dine-in and definitely if you're looking for a to-go lunch option that is an incredible deal. Situated in a newer development at the crossroads in Diamond Springs, Allez is a small establishment with 5-6 tables, a bar, and a few patio seats. If you come during the dinner rush, you can expect to wait more than an hour for a seat. That's what happened to us even though we arrived just before 5:30pm. One hour and a half later, we were finally seated. The ambiance is cozy and quaint with B&W photographs of French football teams of yore and the prerequisite beret hanging off a coat hook. It's not kitschy; it's welcoming. If you dine-in for dinner, there is a great prix fixe 3 course menu for around $32. The food ranged from good to very food. Most notable in my mind was the beef bourguignon. It comes out piping hot. The beef is steeped with flavor, fork tender, and a delight with a side of mashed potatoes. The paella is a notable entree that will please many palates. The chicken and pasta was ok as was the fish. Perhaps the best deal of all is the lunch to go. We ordered that night and brought our boxes with us for lunch the next day. The sandwiches are sizeable with one side, a chunk of brie cheese, and 2 different desserts. The portions are generous and one box could probably even serve 2 people as a light meal. It's perfect for a wine tasting picnic or wherever your travel takes you in the county. Again, perhaps our most frustrating experience of the evening was the extended wait. Our wait for our table totaled 1.5 hours. Our wait to get our order placed exceeded 20 minutes. Then the wait for our food was another 20-30 minutes. Keep that in mind if you plan to dine in the restaurant. Take out may be a better option if you are compressed on time. read more
