What a cute little gem in Downtown Placerville. It was quiet, kinda empty when we arrived. We decided to get a few glasses of wine and sit outside on the patio. We opted to sit there for COVID reasons and privacy. Best decision we could have ever made. Zacharie, the owner checked on us multiple times. She even turned on the fairy lights. Felt like I was sitting in my grandmas backyard chilling on a summer night living my best life with my friends. They have several wine bottles of the day that are already open and able to be poured by the glass. You can also purchase bottles for sharing and charcuterie boards. It wasn't until we were leaving when we realized pretty much any of the bottles were available by pour on request. I regret not taking advantage of this. They have unique local selections. I'm an amateur when it comes to wine, but there are definitely options! They offer other alternatives like beer, soda, hard ciders. Sometimes they also have live music. Great for smaller parties. Cute pitstop on the way to Tahoe. Parking was free at the nearby garage. Zacharie, the owner, is extremely friendly and made a great host. We stopped through the town of Placerville to let the traffic towards Sacramento coming from Tahoe die down for a while, and we were a little surprised to see a wine bar with such spirit and value. The wines available are a gooding sampling of the wines from the area around Placerville, and they've got quite a tasty selection of Belgian ales. I give it a 3 only because of new staff, I still love the place and the wine but I'm not sure if it's under new ownership or she was just a staff; but a dark haired lady was not welcoming or friendly. Mary Kate who has been there forever was of course her wonderful self, which is the reason I will return. I just hope the lady with dark hair takes her disposition a bit more serious while at work. I felt like she was bothered I was there or maybe that she was there, either way, she was short and seemed annoyed, not what one should convey while at work. Worst service ever!!! My friend and I were looking to have a glass of wine and she warned me about this place but we decided to give it a try anyway... mistake. We walked in and there was only one other couple in the place and they were trying to pay their bill... they were over charged by $10 and were trying to explain to the elderly server that they only had two glasses of wine. This transaction went 8 minutes! (We timed it!) when we were ready to order she gave my friend a "tease" of wine, totally ignored me and started talking to a patron who just walked in. She was completely oblivious to my raised hand and questions (mind you this is a fairly small place). We walked out and went to Heyday across the street and ended up having excellent service there. This place was awesome. Tastings were reasonable and the pours were more than fair, everyone was knowledgeable about the wines they poured, and there was a great selection. I was staying at the Carey House down the block and without a wine opener. I walked back to have The Wine Smith open the bottle I bought hours earlier, and they were playing corn hole in the back! Wanted to listen to the nice music they had going on. However, I needed to use the restroom while there. They wouldn't allow me to use it unless I purchased a drink. The blonde owner was very rude. The dark haired one was pretty nice. The fact is, they both cornered me by the restroom and made it very clear I couldn't use it without making a purchase FIRST. Never been treated that way before.
