This is a wonderful historic spot in placerville! There's a bar and restaurant portion and this review is for the bar. They offered a variety of IPAs and stouts- it took a little time to find a beer I liked but the bartender was very nice and let me sample 3 different ones until I found one I liked. The ambiance is great and it's a nice spot for a quiet drink.

This was a surprisingly excellent early dinner in downtown Placerville. I'd describe the menu as elevated pub fare with some basics for kids or pickier eaters. It's a nice atmosphere where the tables are spaced well and has a rustic charm. I ordered the garden sandwich which was packed with fresh veggies including peppers, tomato, cumbers and artichokes. Topping it off was an herbed cream cheese spread and balsamic glaze. It sounds different, but it was a great combination of flavors. It came with a side of potato wedges which were nicely crisped. Generous portions, so it was nice to take home some leftovers. My boyfriend got the chicken habanero pizza which he really enoyed. Our server was lovely! I wish I got her name because she was so sweet and attentive. Very friendly staff all around. Excellent dining option when in Placerville.

    SPECIAL: shrimp tacos

This was a unique restaurant that had an assortment of distinctly different items to eat on the menu. We decided on two types of tacos - the shrimp ones were delicious & the jerk chicken ones were spicy, but filling. We also ordered the caramel apple pie - it was basically a dessert pizza, but the flavors were amazing! I'll be back to try more of their food. As for the decor of the place, it seemed homey - like a great place to hang out. They had a pool table & a bar as well. As for service, our waitress was alright. She was friendly, but non-existent at times, especially when drinks were low from eating those jerk tacos!

We went last night for a quick bite and to try something new. I ordered the pineapple hazy cider, the sunshine shrimp tacos, and the skillet cookie. My wife ordered the loaded potatoes. The decor was nice and they have 2 separate areas. One for the restaurant and one for the bar, but you can order food at either one. The service was a bit slow but it was expected and hour before closing. The shrimp tacos were good, but nothing to brag about. The pineapple hazy cider was a bit too much on the sour side but I would order it again. The cookie was very hot which I loved and was delicious.

My team and I decided to hit up Public House post rafting trip. I loved how there was the restaurant seating, outdoor seating, and a bar. The drinks were great, loved this salad, and the bartender/server was really sweet. Overall, a great experience!

We stopped here Saturday before heading up to Apple Hill. Arrived just as it was opening (11am), so no waiting and no crowds. Service was great. We ordered the lunchbox and chicken caprese sandwiches with salad; both were good and filling. The parking garage behind the restaurant has two hours free parking. Take Spring Street and go through town (look for parking sign on the left). If you miss Spring Street, there is an entrance off eastbound Hwy 50.

We were here on a warm day for lunch. We were about the first ones to arrive around 11:30 am. We had our dog with us, so we sat out front with at the counter with bar stools overlooking the sidewalk and street. There are enough seats there for about 3 couples. We were greeted promptly, given menus, and drink orders were taken. The drinks came out shortly afterwards and we then ordered. We got the plate of 3 shrimp tacos and a small Cesar salad. The flavors were delicious! The food took a while to come out, which surprised me since we were the only ones there initially. It also took a long time to get and pay the bill. I appreciated that they offered to bring water for our dog.

We come here every time we are in the area. The bar side is great, but the restaurant side is incredibly charming. The Jerk Chicken Taco appetizer is delicious and always tastes fresh. Our favorite pizza -- it's a must try -- is the Brew House Pizza. Bratwurst sandwich is great, slightly sweet depending on the day and the peppers used. The service can be hit or miss depending on the time of day. Weekdays during early lunch service the servers are usually on their phones, not super attentive. Late afternoons the staff really wakes up. Great historic images of Placerville surround the pool table, awesome decor. We love playing poker while we wait for our meals to come out. This place is a must try if you're in Hangtown!

Needed a place for lunch after morning in Coloma. Order a barrel aged stout and split cauliflower crust pizza. Pizza was very good. Like the atmosphere and service.

    Caprese sandwich with tater tots

3.5 stars; would've been higher if not for the service issues. Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon, driving home to San Leandro from Auburn. When we walked in, we stood around waiting for a few minutes before the waitress showed us to our table. She was very nice, but it was clear almost immediately that she was overworked. She was the only waitress working and the number of people on staff overall was small. The menu has a good selection of sandwiches, burgers, salads, appetizers, pizza, and pasta. I went with the caprese sandwich, which was a good-sized sandwich of mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes, spinach, pesto aioli, and balsamic reduction, all on a toasted brioche bun. I subbed out the salad for tater tots. My husband and brother also got sandwiches (the hot pastrami and chicken mushroom swiss, respectively) and also got tater tots. We all felt the tater tots could've been crispier, but were still good. We all really loved our sandwiches. I liked that the mozzarella on mine had a good denseness that lended itself well to being the star of a sandwich, but was still soft in the middle. The balsamic wasn't too overwhelming either and was a good mix with the aioli. I'd order it again, though there were plenty of other things on the menu I'd try if I came back here again. Unfortunately, the meal came to a massive standstill once we ordered dessert. They had a special: peach cinnamon dessert pizza. I ordered a personal size for myself, but the kitchen accidentally made a large for the whole table, so it took significantly longer to come out than we expected. The waitress was apologetic and only charged us for a personal, but we were sitting between 20-30 minutes after our plates had been cleared, waiting for the pizza. It was ultimately very good, the perfect level of sweet with lots of peaches, and the crust was especially impressive. Their pizza is probably incredibly good based on just that crust alone. But I'm not sure it was worth waiting such a long time for it. Our waitress hardly ever came around, and even when she said she would, she'd disappear because she was the only waitress working and helping the other guests. Solid food in a beautiful old saloon, but service left much to be desired.

For a midweek lunch, my dad and I came to Placerville Public House. He had seen it on a recent Food Network show and we decided to give it a try. Despite being in the heart of historic downtown Placerville, the interior of the space was clean and modern. Our server was kind and attentive. They are known for elevated pub food and I really wanted to try the nachos, but I was craving pizza. I decided to order a personal pig and pickle pizza - say that five times fast. It was a strange, unique combination that I have never tried on a pizza before, but surprisingly, it worked! My dad opted to try their tacos and he thought that they were quite flavorful. All in all, a nice spot to grab a bite to eat with a good variety of food and a large tap menu.

RIP Highwater Brewing. You are missed.

This is one of those times when the service is just so dreadful you kinda have to laugh. Came in on a Saturday after wine tasting at El Dorado Passport. We were seated right away but it was all downhill from there. Beverages took a while just to get ordered, and even longer to get delivered to us. We should have given up then and left because the place wasn't that busy and almost all the other tables already had their food. As we waited...and waited...we watched as our server (who appeared quite stoned) continued to chat it up with her coworkers who were also standing around while our food sat in the kitchen window and the cook had to keep ringing the bell to get her attention. A couple tables that had come in after us were already done eating by the time we even got our food. My group got their orders, but I was told my pizza was made with the wrong cheese and had to be remade and should be out in five minutes. Five minutes to the server under the influence was actually over fifteen in reality and my group was done eating by the time I got served. The consensus was the food was just too mediocre to put up with such slow service. None of us would ever come back.

Bomb a$$ chicken sandwich and wedges!

Ask the Community - Placerville Public House

What time does the kitchen close?

Are dogs allowed on the patio? And if so, is it heated during the winter?

Good evening, yes. We have a wonderful heated patio and friendly dogs are welcome. Cheers!

Are kids allowed here? After 6pm

I believe there was a kid menu, so I'm assuming yes! I went during the day and it seemed like it would be a great place for kids, as there were games on all the tables.

We were headed to a place I was familiar with and while going down Main Street saw Burning Barrel. I quickly hoped on their website and rattled off a few items and we pulled into the closest parking lot and made our way over. The restaurant was empty of guests and the young man at the counter was welcoming, asking if this was our first visit, and showed us the food and drink menu and the board of current craft beers. I chose the Longhorn (tri tip) sandwich and fries and a Lillikoi Mai Tai, and the spouse chose the Pastrami Sandwich and a beer called Dank. They do not do table service so after ordering we grabbed a seat. This is a pretty large open space with an outdoor patio, several roll up doors and misters at the outside. Shortly after sitting down a server came over with our meals. I started with a french fry, and I have to say these are the best french fries I have ever had, in my life time. I don't know if its the way they cut the fries, the way they are seasoned, what they are fried in or all of the above, but they were delicious! Our sandwiches were outstanding! Both were incredibly flavorful and filling, and even after I was full I continued eating because everything tasted SO GOOD. The drinks were excellent too, so good that we ordered a second round. The young man at the counter also made my mai tai and did an excellent job. About halfway into our meal other guests started to arrive and by the time we left there were at least 4-5 parties of guests in the restaurant. I will absolutely return, and highly recommend Burning Barrel. I was also pleased to see that they have a Rancho Cordova location, which is a little closer to my home in the Valley. Thank you Burning Barrel for the excellent food, drinks and customer service! You made our great day even better!
