It was fine. Not our first choice, but it wasn't disappointing. Some things my party of 4 noticed: -a lot of the menu items are spicy. They do like their jalapeños here! That said, the Jalapeño Popper Grilled Cheese delivered on its name. We wished fries were an option instead of potato chips. -the preparation of food seemed... rustic. For example: the jalapeños in the aforementioned grilled cheese were not cut evenly. The salmon on my Lox & Caper Flatbread looked ragged; same with the salmon on my SIL's Lox & Caper Toast. Also, her dish was a bit spicy, which was not mentioned in the menu description. My dish was very similar except on flatbread and specified jalapeño cream cheese, which led us to think the chef used the same knife for both. Or maybe the menu description needs to be updated. -you can sub cauliflower crust on the flatbread! I appreciated the gluten free option and thought the crust was good. My flatbread was a little bigger than the size of a dinner plate. Overall I found it a bit salty though. -it's bright and inviting in the non-bar dining area. Seating was self-seating, which always gives me flashbacks to middle school in the cafeteria (ugh). Based on the table sizes, I'd say 2-4 people is common, with a couple larger tables for groups of 6-8. -we were told to help ourselves to the menus too. Omg-- there were 4 different menus! Brunch (yes! :) They offer brunch on Sundays), lunch, drinks, and kids. It took us several tries to get the right ones for all of us since they were not sorted very well. -they do different themed nights, like Trivia, live music, etc. -there's another room with the bar and high top tables -restrooms (2) are single person, unisex -they give real straws! They're the bendy kind, too! :) This is in a great location by the downtown shops. We lucked into parking in the small odd-directionally-marked lot next to it. This is perhaps the best food pub grub place in downtown Placerville. It serves a large list of pub food, namely tacos, pizza, sandwiches, and a pretty nice set of salads as well. There is a bit of innovative flair in the menu items, meaning it is not just a standard Ceasar, but a Greek Ceasar. Or the Hot Pastrami, is not just a Reuben, but a Pastrami loaded with pickle relish and beer mustard. Those are some of the "flairs", the Public House provides. The only problem I had at this place was cold tater tots which are the standard fare with a sandwich. Otherwise the ambience, and service were excellent. There is a large list of both wine and beer to be had here. They focus on Helwig wines and a few other local wineries, and of course local beers are a major focus as well. I will be back, and I must say my service here was EXCELLENT, the food came out fast and the attendance to the tables by my waiter was too good. Very nice! read more

Right from the start we had the best service. Very sweet server who was attentive and sat us immediately in comfy chairs. We ordered the pub nachos, which were spot on. Soooooooo good. Really good pomegranate cider and whatever ipa my husband got, he loved. The garlic knots were so so. A little overcooked and dry, but delicious homemade marinara and ranch made them really good still. The building itself was really neat. We enjoyed the blueberry crumble sour..definitely recommend to others going. Our food was ok...maybe 3 out of 5 stars. The brat sandwich could've used more mustard. It wasn't juicy and felt overcooked. Our other sandwich lacked any meat and was too much cheese. The bartender himself, man with hat and beard, wasn't also very friendly. This is a really beautiful place to eat. We really enjoyed eating here. The food was mostly good. We were disappointed and surprised that there was only one personal pan pizza crust left--and it was 5:30 on a Friday night; dinner had only barely begun. We found that weird. The pizza my husband got (the bossman) he absolutely loved. I got the mushroom chicken sandwich. I really like that this restaurant caters to vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free diets. I'm dairy free and still had many options, which is often not the case. The only food that was so-so was the sesame ginger chicken wings. They weren't crispy at all, but the breading on the outside was extremely soft and it was weird. I loved the flavor of the sauce but my husband was turned off by the texture of the wings. Unexpected 5 stars! I made the wrong assumption that everything would be "so so," but talk about great service, food, and beer! The Shaka pizza and Brewhouse pizza were legit, such a great crust. I have to give it up to the staff (Kevin the bartender and Shawndra), they were so welcoming and friendly that I felt like I walked into someone's living room. Just left the location, first visit to the new Public House in Hangtown.. we had been to the older location across the street but this location is much nicer. We walked in they were probably another four or five people in the restaurant. We walked all the way to the back before we were greeted by Nicole.who was on her phone. she told us to sit wherever we wanted and we picked a table near the bar and near the kitchen. She brought us the menus but then left and didn't come back for at least 5 minutes. We asked for two samples of beers which she brought. And then we placed our order. Two beers and Bossman medium pizza. That was the last time that we saw her for the most part,even though she was not even 10 ft and always on her phone or talking other people. We had to get up and ask for water and our setups as none were brought to the table. I even had to get up and ask for a glass of ice because, even though she was not even 10 ft from us, she never came back to service our table until the pizza came.. and again not asking if we wanted refills on our beers which both glasses were empty. as we wre, iI accidentally spilled a glass of water on my wife and my wife was the one that picked up some towels off the bar and began to clean her self, her chair and the floor as Nicole came over and said oops glad you cleaned it up. It was our first time here so we weren't comfortable moving furniture around, but he immediately brought over some extra bar stools so we could all sit around our table. He answered all our questions with knowledgeable answers and advised us on what beers to try on an individual basis. The food arrived fast, and the host was on top of it, our glasses weren't empty for to long. We never felt uncomfortable and everyone in the crowd was just there to enjoy the evening.
