Geartooth Aleworks is THE brewery and barbecue Placerville go to spot for an overload of tastiness and wonderful family feels!

Geartooth Alewotks is a MUST HAVE when you're in Placerville! Delicious brews and yummy barbecue from this family owned business will leave you wanting for more and more and more! They've been open for about a year and they definitely must be visited to keep them going for many years to come! We got the extra large bbq plate with trisket, baby back ribs and chopped pork and sides of green apple slaw and borracho beans which was perfectly sized for us to share! We got the hot vinegar, mustard, mild and medium sauces and they were all lip smacking goodness! We didn't have enough of the goodness and just had to try the pork belly bites which was oh so good we're uber glad we ordered it too! Dad took all of the smoked meats fresh off the smoker and were perfectly done! Mom's sides and award winning sauces were perfectly matched to all the meats we tried! You can taste the passion they all pour their delicious beer and southern style barbecue! Momma was so touched to hear that someone appreciated the heart and soul she pours into the dishes she remembers from her Florida days. The brewmasters whip up some truly delicious brews that we can't figure out what we liked most. They had a little something for all kinds of tastes and preferences. Crowlers are available for just about everything so you can take some home for later. It is such a wonderful treat to see a small town family run business providing excellent and friendly service in a nicely decorated and clean venue! They were all so helpful with our questions and ordering needs! Momma even brought the dishes out to us so we didn't need to grab it from the counter after our buzzer went off. We look forward to coming back again one day! We'll be sharing this Placerville gem with the friends that will be here in a few short weeks. If you're thinking of a visit, don't walk, RUN in for ALL their goodness!

oh my goodness, geartooth alewerks is such a gem that more people need to know about. first off, the inside is covered in rad posters of music festivals, concerts, and more for some of the best bands on the planet. the food is absolutely epic. i tried the trisket (tri-tip cooked like a brisket) and it was some of the best tri-tip i've ever had. plus such a fun way to eat it like a brisket! the pickles and pickled onions that come with are equally as divine! their house made bbq sauce is phenomenal and even tried their potato chips which are dusted in bbq seasoning. plenty of parking and some outdoor seating! we didn't get to try the beer because they were experiencing some slight issues with the taps. but looking forward to being back for great food and service from the geartooth alewerks crew!

    Beer & Nachos! Yum!

Very friendly staff! I had 2 different types of Pale Ale beers and enjoyed them both. I shared nachos with a friend and we devoured it. They have cards and boardgames to play. Trivia some nights. I only wish they were open later than they are.

Cook on his cell phone in between preparing food. This was about the 3rd time he got on his phone without changing gloves.

Tried this place for the first and last time. Service was ok. Overpriced as far as I am concerned for what you get. We frequent many of the restaurants in Placerville. But my biggest complaint is watching the cook prepare my food while also being on his cell phone. Gross!!! He had gloves on but what does that matter when you keep using your cell phone with them on.

8/3/2023: Geartooth's Brew selection . . . Fresh or Crowlers to go; however, no Growler refills!

8/3/2023: My Client and I were obviously hankering for down-home barbecue. We were seriously discussing the preference between Northern and Southern States' barbecue methods: "Ya wanna eat wet or dry barbecue?" "Uhh~I dunno . . . There are only two barbecue joints to choose in town . . . Kinda getting bored with both styles served (Client frowns)." "Ya wanna eat at--Dickey's--?" "MEH . . . I don't like the way they cook their barbecue . . . Too dry and tough." "Wanna eat at Hog Wild--? "NAH . . . Ate there too many times. I want something different." "What about THIS place--? We never ate here, right?" "What's this?" "Oh~It's a new neighborhood brewery with barbecue. Ya wanna eat here?" Client reads the small sign in front of the entrance: "YEAH! Fresh brew and barbecue, too? Yeah~Let's inhale here!!! Please park your truck." First order of business upon entering Geartooth Alewerks: Must order BEER! Geartooth Alewerks' brewery selection has definitely piqued my interest . . . Sadly, I'm driving so, no beer inhalation session will commence for me~waaaah. BTW: Order Geartooth Alewerks' fresh brew from tap while inhaling barbecue at Geartooth Alewerks . . . OR order Geartooth Alewerks' four-pack . . . Choosing the libation's alcohol content or choose Geartooth Alewerks' Crowler to go; disappointingly sad, no Growler refills~waaaaah! Geartooth Alewerks' Barbecue: "I shall order a Trisket and Ribs Combo with Barracho beans and a Mac Salad, please . . . Meanwhile, my Client stated he will pay separately; he will be inhaling St. Louis Ribs Combo with coleslaw and Barracho beans, please? Oh . . . May we inhale our meal here, too, please? Ummm~do you have non-alcoholic drinks?" "Sure-You may choose where you'd like sitting! But, we only serve water--No non-alcoholic drinks . . . Just water." We wait for our devouring meal session to begin. Our meals arrive, I'm commencing my barbecue inhaling session; the Trisket and Ribs Combo I chose were soooo tender, not tough, not grissly . . . JUST DOWN-HOME BARBECUE DONE WELL AND RIGHT! Then . . . I sneakily look to my right . . . My POV: Client remains silent while expediently inhaling his St. Louis Ribs . . . I watched him smacking his lips and licking the sauce from his fingers . . . "What's your verdict, Judge?" "I'm coming back here!!!!" LOL! Oh--One more thing I must do before paying for my sumptuous barbecue: I ordered a four-pack of Burned & Blackened Smoked Porter--7% alcohol content to go: I inhaled a can on 8/4/2023 for dinner eating the leftover Geartooth Alewerks' Trisket and Ribs Combo with Barracho beans and a Mac Salad . . . It will take me THREE DAYS eating everything! The Burned & Blackened Smoked Porter has this haunting dark chocolate, aromatic hint of coffee with a zing note at the back end . . . WHOA! Moreover, I truly wonder when Geartooth Alewerks will have either the four-pack or Crowler available for Father Cog's Imperial Stout, i.e., 9.5% alcohol content ready for me purchasing to go? Surely, I'm returning for BOTH Geartooth Alewerks' Brewery and Barbecue, too! BTW: My Client kept RAVING while driving him back to his office how his St. Louis Ribs were seasoned just right, not spicy-that's just the way he rolls . . . He loved inhaling the coleslaw and the Barracho beans, too! Finally, Client repeatedly stated, "I'm going back for MORE BARBECUE, Shirley!!!!" Thank you, Geartooth Alewerks for choosing being in my neighborhood's stomping grounds and my Client wanted thank you as well, too!

2 Meat Combo with baby back ribs and tri-tip (aka trisket). 8oz side of beans, 8oz side of Mac, and a 4oz side of coleslaw.

The food at Geartooth Alewerks was delicious. The rub on the ribs was tacky/flavorful, the trisket was juicy and we were delighted with all 3 sides. My wife and I split this plate and it was just the right amount of food. They have a nice selection of beers too.

Smoked pork bites, coleslaw, drunken beans

I have been wanting to try this new place in Placerville for a while. I'm so glad we went today. Beer and BBQ doesnt get much better than that. Everything is made in-house by this family run business . The sons brew, and the parents smoke the meat and make the sides. We talked with owner Kit, who is one of the chef/owners. They know BBQ. The menu is small in order to keep everything fresh. I had the pork bites with the aju sauce, which was amazing. Mt lunch companion wanted the brisket, but they were still smoking it after a large lunch order. They told us the only brisket they had was for the nachos. When our order arrived, they included a taste of the brisket along with the pork. All of the sides were amazing. Coleslaw, drunken beans, macaroni salad. Delicious! Big servings at an excellent price. Multiple hand crafted beer to choose from. All made in house. The ambiance is nice. Very cozy. Beautiful countertops and a very palatable color scheme. It is a very unique place run by a family that understands beer and BBQ. Do yourself a favor and go!

We decided to sit on the patio since it was nice outside - they also offer a ton of seating inside and I also spotted a huge bar area. They are also dog friendly! We ordered the Kids Cheese Flatbread, Reuben Sandwich with Garlic Fries and the BOJ Burger. My daughter devoured her Flatbread and my husband really liked his Reuben Sandwich - I liked all of the toppings that came on my BOJ Burger, but the hamburger patty itself was not seasoned and it weirdly made the whole burger lack in flavor even though there was bacon, onion jam and gouda on it. Our friends also enjoyed their food as well! They offer a large beer menu and a fun cocktail list - I almost ordered one, but decided not to. I will have to next time! Overall, service was friendly and attentive - even when it started getting really busy. I was hesitate about visiting based off of the reviews, but we we all left full and satisifed. They do not, however they do something called a "fast pass" which basically means they put your name down and if you arrive while there's a wait, you get seated before anyone else who is waiting and does not have a fast pass. Kind of a different approach. I was glad that when we arrived, there wasn't anyone else waiting and there were tables available. Service was very attentive and friendly. He took our drink orders and allowed us some time to decide what to eat. Hubs and I both debated between multiple options- a lot sounded so good- but we both decided on the filet mignon. On the menu, it indicated that the dish comes with a béarnaise sauce; my husband really doesn't care for tarragon so he requested a substitution of their mushroom rosemary sauce instead (which is offered with their ribeye), and they happily obliged. The meal also included Yukon mashed potatoes and veggies. Our food was delivered soon after and I was pleasantly surprised that not only were our steaks still very warm but that they were cooked a perfect medium rare. The quality of the steaks was great, they were nice and thick. The veggies were, for the most part, overdone and a bit soggy, but that's not something that bothers me too much. The potatoes had good flavor but could have used much more milk/cream as they were pretty dry and firm. The experience was a good one and I would definitely return if we lived closer. I liked that their menu had a lot to offer- this is a good place for a family who has various tastes. Shout out to our server, Carver, who was great and provided very good service.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch, mostly because we were feeling adventurous. And by "adventurous," I mean we wanted a break from the local cuisine rotation of... Mexican food, more Mexican food, pizza, and--just to keep things spicy--more pizza. (Hey, I love it all, but you get what I'm saying.) Then we found this place. Game changer. The menu is fantastic--like "how do I choose without ordering everything?" fantastic. The owners are incredibly welcoming, and the cook actually came out to talk with us about his passion for the food. The last time I saw that level of enthusiasm was from a surgeon after successfully removing my gallbladder. Same energy. Slightly different stakes. I had the BBQ chicken flatbread pizza and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was OUT OF THIS WORLD. If NASA needs new fuel sources, they should start here. My wife ordered the street tacos, and mid-bite she just looked at me and whispered, "More please." Not even a full sentence--just pure, taco-induced clarity. Great food, amazing people, and a beautiful outdoor seating area that makes you want to stay way longer than you planned. Bottom line: You need to eat here. Not "you should consider it"--I mean you need to. You will leave happy, full, and possibly plotting your next visit before you even get to your car.
