Had an ample amount of ingredients giving me the sense that they don't skimp with their recipes! The onions were pickled so those of you who avoid onions for the sake of keeping your breath fresh for those around you, Poor Reds has you covered. I came for the BBQ and found myself intrigued by the Fritos Chili Pie. I ordered both. Kept the ribs to a half rack and split them with my son. First, the Fritos Chili Pie. It came in a bowl with a piece of foil between my Fritos Chili Pie and the bowl. I wondered out loud why there was foil here and my son pointed out that it was a Fritos chips bag that had been opened with the inner silver part facing up to hold my Fritos Chili Pie. I guess it is to show that the corn chips are indeed Fritos brand and that there is an entire bag used for this serving. The flavor was pretty good. I like heat so I wish the jalapeños were more plentiful. I finished the entire pie! Second, the St. Louis Ribs with fries. These came on a plate with the standard side of french fries. I love good fries and these were good! They are batter covered fries. No too thin (I hate thin fries) and not steak fries or wedges. They are cooked well and come out crispy without being overly done. The ribs looked fantastic and were very tender. After eating two ribs I was somewhat disappointed. I was expecting more flavorful ribs. The flavor wasn't bad, I was just expecting elevated flavor. Was looking for an OMG moment and instead found myself in a meh shrug. The second issue with the ribs was the apparent age of them and how many days prior they may have been cooked. They weren't BAD as in spoiled. The texture on the ends and edges gave me that impression of being reheated from a previous day. I may return in the next few months and try the ribs again to see if I just got some that aren't the norm. The cocktails fell short of expectations. Even their signature Golden Cadillac fell short. When I came here years ago the drink has a very distinctive flavor profile SERVICE Stellar! Bree was on point, friendly and helpful. She kept us informed and also asked our preferences. An example is if we wanted everything at once, to which I replied salad first. This was appreciated! She kept our table clear of empties and trash. Good service helps when the food falls short. It appeared from what I could see that the staff are like Bree and very good in the area of service. DECOR The updated decor is nice. The bar area has maintained the feel from the previous owners. I chose the Longhorn (tri tip) sandwich and fries and a Lillikoi Mai Tai, and the spouse chose the Pastrami Sandwich and a beer called Dank. They do not do table service so after ordering we grabbed a seat. This is a pretty large open space with an outdoor patio, several roll up doors and misters at the outside. Shortly after sitting down a server came over with our meals. I started with a french fry, and I have to say these are the best french fries I have ever had, in my life time. I don't know if its the way they cut the fries, the way they are seasoned, what they are fried in or all of the above, but they were delicious! Our sandwiches were outstanding! Both were incredibly flavorful and filling, and even after I was full I continued eating because everything tasted SO GOOD. The drinks were excellent too, so good that we ordered a second round. The young man at the counter also made my mai tai and did an excellent job. About halfway into our meal other guests started to arrive and by the time we left there were at least 4-5 parties of guests in the restaurant. I was hoping to do a wine tasting outdoors, but unfortunately, wine flights are only available indoors. The bar area was small and completely full, with no seats available or even enough room to comfortably stand. We ended up ordering two glasses of wine instead and sat outside. The weather was a bit warm but still tolerable. I asked a staff member why we were given stemless glasses while guests at the bar had stemmed glasses, especially since I was drinking sparkling wine that would be better kept cool instead of warming up the glass. He explained that stemmed glasses can tip over more easily outdoors, whereas stemless glasses are more stable. I understand the reasoning, but I wish they offered outdoor wine flights using stemless glasses instead. Many wineries offer outdoor tastings, and we likely would have purchased a bottle or two if we'd had the opportunity to sample more of their wines first. On the plus side, there was an outdoor pizza oven that day, operated by a separate business. We ordered the sausage and potato pizza based on the pizza owner's recommendation. It was over $30, but the portion was enough for two adults to share. One thing worth mentioning is that it was quite warm, and we didn't realize there were complimentary bottled glass waters in a fridge until we were leaving and saw another guest grab one. It would have been helpful to know about the water, especially since we were sitting outside in the heat. They did have a self-serve water canteen with cups next to it, but I didn't feel comfortable using that to fill up my Hydroflask and take all the water. Overall, it was a pleasant visit, but I think offering outdoor wine flights and letting guests know about the complimentary glass water bottles would make the experience even better. We would have loved the opportunity to try more wines rather than settling for individual glasses.
