Best local bar! Cheap drinks and great people. It has the dive bar vibe you are looking for.

Cheep drinks. No beer on tap. No Guinness - bottle or can. Great place to hang with the locals and get drunk! ;)

Poor Red's Bar-B-Q - 1/2 rack ribs

First time visit, friendly wait staff definitely a local restaurant…read moreWe did not order ribs, but the Caesar salads were great and the hamburgers were giant, 1/2 pound We sat inside because of the high temperatures outside, but there is a nice patio available. We will definitely return for ribs.

5/4/2024 at 3:00 PM…read more Server: Bree Bartender: Jessie FOOD & DRINKS I started with the 1/2 wedge salad. It was perfectly dressed. Had an ample amount of ingredients giving me the sense that they don't skimp with their recipes! The onions were pickled so those of you who avoid onions for the sake of keeping your breath fresh for those around you, Poor Reds has you covered. I came for the BBQ and found myself intrigued by the Fritos Chili Pie. I ordered both. Kept the ribs to a half rack and split them with my son. First, the Fritos Chili Pie. It came in a bowl with a piece of foil between my Fritos Chili Pie and the bowl. I wondered out loud why there was foil here and my son pointed out that it was a Fritos chips bag that had been opened with the inner silver part facing up to hold my Fritos Chili Pie. I guess it is to show that the corn chips are indeed Fritos brand and that there is an entire bag used for this serving. The flavor was pretty good. I like heat so I wish the jalapeños were more plentiful. I finished the entire pie! Second, the St. Louis Ribs with fries. These came on a plate with the standard side of french fries. I love good fries and these were good! They are batter covered fries. No too thin (I hate thin fries) and not steak fries or wedges. They are cooked well and come out crispy without being overly done. The ribs looked fantastic and were very tender. After eating two ribs I was somewhat disappointed. I was expecting more flavorful ribs. The flavor wasn't bad, I was just expecting elevated flavor. Was looking for an OMG moment and instead found myself in a meh shrug. The second issue with the ribs was the apparent age of them and how many days prior they may have been cooked. They weren't BAD as in spoiled. The texture on the ends and edges gave me that impression of being reheated from a previous day. I may return in the next few months and try the ribs again to see if I just got some that aren't the norm. The cocktails fell short of expectations. Even their signature Golden Cadillac fell short. When I came here years ago the drink has a very distinctive flavor profile SERVICE Stellar! Bree was on point, friendly and helpful. She kept us informed and also asked our preferences. An example is if we wanted everything at once, to which I replied salad first. This was appreciated! She kept our table clear of empties and trash. Good service helps when the food falls short. It appeared from what I could see that the staff are like Bree and very good in the area of service. DECOR The updated decor is nice. The bar area has maintained the feel from the previous owners. I haven't been here for over 15 years, which was prior to it's closure by the previous owners. Very pleasant surroundings for our dining experience. CLEANLINESS Yes, it appears very clean. LOCATION Historic location in the town of El Dorado. PRICE What you would expect in an establishment like this. Reasonable in my estimation.

Parking was a headache. Especially factoring in our visit happening on Labor Day weekend, there was a ton of foot traffic. Designated parking spots were all filled and the parking garage further down was just as packed. It took many attempts before we were able to locate someone leaving the premises. The check in and wait for a table was just as bad in the eatery. I used the time to look over the menu. Here you will find classic American comfort foods and fancier items with an elevated twist. There is essentially something for everyone. Lunch for our party: *BALSAMIC BRUSSELS SPROUTS *MIXED GREENS SALAD WITH BLACKENED SALMON *GRILLED LAMB CHOPS *KID'S CHICKEN TENDERS WITH VEGGIES Food was pretty good. The lamb chops were exceptional and although the blackened salmon didn't taste or look so delicious, I appreciated it not being overcooked. The chicken tenders were a nice golden brown and was not over battered and the medley of fresh veggies were really good. The balsamic brussels were good in size but the flavoring wasn't the best. All in all, the food was enjoyed. The one mishap that stood out was with Tessa H. forgetting my toddler's drink. We were half way through our meal when I realized nothing had been brought out to us even after the drink order had been taken. We flagged her down and let her know but ended up having to remind her 2 additional times before receiving the drink. At that point, the meal was already over. 4 stars overall but 1 star deducted because of the soda situation.

As well as reading Yelp reviews. Finding myself in Cameron Park with food on my mind, I thought of Wally's. Why not! My GF made an exit off Highway 50 and voilà, there it was a block down the street. Not the small, intimate pizza place I expected. I don't even know where that thought came from. It is huge... really huge! The second we walked through the door, it was obvious everyone was having fun. Nice! We were greeted immediately and given our choice of where was left to sit. It was packed. We chose a cool table for two slightly elevated facing the entire 2/3 front of the restaurant (where we had entered.). And we immediately noticed all the tvs positioned on the perimeter of the walls interior. It was evening and lights were dimmed perfectly. Whatta great view of "everything, everyone and everywhere". Sweet waitperson arrives immediately and takes drink orders. I love a business that takes your alcohol needs seriously!:) We ordered a BBQ chicken pizza. (A perfect recreation of my favorite pizza from Base Camp Pizza in Tahoe... read my review LOL.) Oh my... so much to choose from! Check out my menu pics! The food/wine was a 10! I had a great pinot. So a big high five from me. The pizza was phenomenal and piece by piece it disappeared during our conversation and frivolity. Four thumbs up! Oh... there's more. They do weekend breakfast and brunch! I want that. Check out that menu photo too. So... in conclusion I highly recommend Wallys Pizza Bar for a good time. The bar, btw, was located behind us so not in our view. But it was packed. And with their own set of big screens! Family friendly and big parking lot. Trust me... I will be back. Thanks, Chef!

We had a classic margarita pizza, spinach & artichoke dip, chicken and waffles and berry French toast. I wanted to love the berry and French toast, it was more of French toast (grilled/ not soaked & traditional) (dryer side). The chicken and waffles were pretty good. We enjoyed the pizza. We would have loved the spinach and artichoke dip, it was a little salty for us. However, we typically take it easy on the salt. I would still recommend to try it. The inside has a relaxed fun vibe. The service was great.

We chose to wait and we received such a friendly and welcoming experience from start to end despite how busy they were. I appreciated our host's transparency about appetizers coming out at the same time as our entrees because their kitchen was slammed. We were totally okay with that and were immediately excited to eat the food once it got to us. It was just as delicious as it looks in pictures. Appetizers that we ordered: - Spam Musubi 5/5 - Hawaiian Style Poke 3.5/5 (it tasted very fresh but was very overstated. We still enjoyed it) Entrees: - Paniolo Burger with extra bacon and avocado 5/5 - Mahi Mahi sandwich 4.5/5 For drinks, my partner had their latest west coast IPA and I had a cider from a local place that was a bit too sweet for my preference. We sat outside since we had our two dogs and their outside patio is dog friendly. Overall, experience was a 5/5 for us and we will definitely be back to experience Tropics again when we are in the area. It's nice to have this as an option over the abundance of American food there seems to be in the area.

I have to say that a big part of this review as well was just how hellishly hot the restaurant was, if this is normally what you keep your thermostat to, y'all gotta be trying to really bring the island summer inside... I think I wetted my chair with sweat. But let's talk food, coconut shrimp were fine but just seemed like the normal run of the mill frozen bag, the bummer was the sauce, sauce for coconut shrimp to me should always be orange based, this was straight up a bottle of Mae Ploy Sweet Chili in a ramekin. The Crispy Sweet and Tangy beef, had an good texture but the flavor itself was really boring, again funny enough appeared to have Mae Ploy Sweet Chili dumped on top, it's really easy to make these sauces in house and make them unique. I was not able to taste the tacos, but my fried was NOT a fan, said the sauce was way off of what a fish taco should be and the fish was not blacked, that much was clear. Blackened means black y'all, crank up the heat and lay on the spice. Last thing was the Chicken Karrage, again ok texture, crunchy chicken but also chewy. The bummer was no sauce, whatsoever. Chicken Karrage has a specific sauce you would think it comes with, if not that the something unique. best we could do was the sauce from other our dishes, and soy. Come on again y'all, put some love into your menu. Little Sriracha Aoli would have made us happy there.
