We were sat and waited awhile to place our orders. The food was okay, your average diner food. The menu is extensive. The Christmas decorations were cute.

I love eating at this place which is located in Pollock Pines. The owner is very nice and the staff work very hard and are personable. They took us in even though we had a large group. I like the rustic interior along with the fireplace and it may not be elagant but it is cozy. My wife and I ordered the meat loaf sandwhich and it was smaller than I have gotten in the past and it was dry. Our server was prompt and right on point and she made sure that our drinks were full. Our family ordered burgers and they enjoyed their food and I recommend that when you are on your way to tahoe and you simply want to eat some good food this place is great!

Stopped here for a post run breakfast with friends. The ambiance is definitely old school truck stop circa 1960s, but in a fabulous way. While the restaurant was very busy, the service was friendly and quick. The menu is definitely comfort food and everything that we ordered was delicious. If you're looking for healthy & vegan, this is not the place for you. We had one vegan in the group who ordered dry toast with a side of avocado & the staff was very understanding. We will most definitely be back to this restaurant.

Great hidden gem on the historic Pony Express route. While the original building from the 1800s is no longer here, the current structure is still California Mountain classic, and itself is probably going on 60 years. History aside, food and service were both great, and a walk on the woods after lunch makes a great desert! THE PROS: All good. They even made a fresh pot of coffee just for me! THE CONS: None at all. A great addition to a day in the pines.

Discovered a very tasty treat...the cinnamon roll French toast! I noticed a plate of it next our table, the custom stating it's delicious and decadent. It was definitely delicious. We ordered it as a side dish to share. So glad we did! Service is always so helpful and attentive. The place was quiet for a Friday brunch crowd. Still very worth coming to when in the area!

We love coming here. Portion size is good. Food is very fresh. My kids really enjoyed their hot cocoa. My sons pancake was bigger then his head. My daughter had the half order of biscuits and gravy. It is her favorite! I ordered the lumberjack with French toast. They have a cinnamon roll french toast that is so good. I think he ordered the chicken fried steak. It is so crunchy crust with the tender inside. We have quite a bit from the menu. Lunch is also good. We really enjoy going for breakfast when it is snowing and watching the snow while we eat. They have the fireplace going on cold days to keep it warm. There are lots of old photos of the building and surrounding area. Very friendly staff. A must stop if you are looking for a breakfast spot.

Don't judge the book by the cover. Minus one star because inside and outside are dated and "mountainy," with wood paneling inside and a carpet nearly black from wear and age. But the menu is varied and the food good, generous, and reasonably priced. And it's just a quick turn from highway 50. We were traveling with our dog, so we ate on the patio. It was about 95 degrees out, but with umbrellas, a little breeze, and a plugged-in house fan, it was bearable. Staff was friendly and attentive, bringing water and even some dog biscuits for the pooch. My cheeseburger had an obviously hand-shaped, loose patty, perfectly cooked to the medium well typically recommended for ground beef, several available cheese choices (thank you for not offering only American!), served on a large brioche bun with two large slices of tomato, optional onions (raw or grilled), and a generous leaf of bibb lettuce. (I skipped the pickles.) The French fries were lightly crisp and tender inside - good enough that I ate all of the very large serving, calories and all. My husband had the Chicken Napoli, which turned out to be two large chicken breasts, nicely grilled with a hint of char and served on an enormous bed of spaghetti. The side salad had nice vegetable additions - cauliflower, broccoli, even a beet, and the balsamic vinaigrette was good. The dinner roll was soft with a crunchy top, served with spreadable whipped butter. The spot was a stop on the Pony Express route, so a little fun history too. One odd thing - garlic fries are $2 more than regular fries as side orders, but if you want to substitute garlic fries for the regular included with a meal, it's a $2.99 upcharge. Do they cost $.99 more to make with a meal? But that's a small quibble. If we lived in the area, we'd be regulars when we want a hearty, old-fashioned meal.

Service is good a fun locals place. We had 6 red hat ladies sitting next to us. Three older gentleman deep in conversation, hanging out after lunch. I had French Toast with a side of avocado. The toast was well dipped into the egg but not soggy. A half of avocado that was just perfect for eating. My husband had the cheeseburger with freshly grilled onions. (Not something I see very often) . This is our second time here. We will make this a regular on our trips from the Bay to Echo Lake. Oh! By the way you can't beat the prices

My new favorite is the chicken teriyaki sandwich with garlic fries! Food is always amazing! Worth any wait time for a table! I am uploading updated menu pictures! Enjoy! 10/10

We dropped in for a recent weekday lunch. The food is basic. The staff is welcoming. The interior seems that it has not changed in the past 20 plus years. I am a frequent infrequent customer. Dropping in occasionally throughout the years only if I find myself in the area and feeling peckish. The menu is simple diner fare. Breakfast, burgers, salads, sandwiches, and hot entrees. Breakfast is served until 4pm which is a nice option. The food is very basic tasting. We ordered a club sandwich to share. It tasted fresh and looked great. It came with a hearty side of fries. A plus is that they do not have a plate sharing fee. We sat next to a window. There were a few flies buzzing about trying their darnedest to fly through the glass pane. They kept bouncing off the glass. Not quite the lunch entertainment we were anticipating.

Felt like we were coming over to a family member's house for a meal like we do every Sunday. We ordered the breakfast burrito (eggs were super soft and each bite was evenly distributed between all the fillings), lake Finnon omelette (lots of sweet savory ham), and the fluffiest buttermilk pancake. We also got a warm cup of coffee, refreshing lake Finnon sunrise, and a fried doughnut (doughnut was the perfect amount of sweet and crunch). We also loved the sweet fruits and potatoes which were fried to a nice crisp with soft interior. Place is super clean and quaint. We will definitely stop by every time we are in the area. It was a good sandwich but needed some extra crunch, like apple/pear slices if not adding a patty. My boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich and he absolutely loved it. The sauce had an orange tang that worked really well. The French fries were super salty and hot and fresh and we really enjoyed our meal. The views outside were great! Inside was clean but the real views are outside.

After a long day hanging out in Apple Hill I wanted some coffee for my trip back home to Vallejo and I didn't want coffee from a franchised spot (I prefer to support local cafes whenever possible, I really enjoy spots with more of a personal community vibe) so I was lucky to come across Camino Coffee Mill. The Camino Coffee Mill is modern in style but it's not pretentious and feels like you're getting coffee while on vacation (you'll get what I'm mean once you go and see for yourself.) The barista was very friendly and patient (it always takes me a bit longer when visiting a place the first time.) While waiting for my order I saw how they made their mocha and I'd wished one (it's usually one of my go toes but I went with something different) she must have noticed the look on my face because she offered to convert my latte into a mocha just so I could have the drink I really wanted (such a kind gesture!) She also shared with me some backstory on history of the cafe and how the cafe is owned by a local couple (who bought it right before getting married) and who also owns the pizza spot right next door (which I'll be trying on my next visit!) I'm so glad I took a chance on this spot and can't wait to try another drink from their menu (maybe a chai!) If you're in the Apple Hill area and want some great coffee to start and or end your day this is the place so bring a good book and or friend to catch up with! J

Pleasantly surprised!…read more We stopped here on a whim on our way back from South Lake Tahoe, after a round of golf. Walked in, not expecting much, but at least some decent food to feed our hungry belly's. It was Saturday evening around 615ish, front of house was running around, but when she spotted us, showed us to our table, gave menus, and apologized as it might be a minute before our server would be able to take our orders because it has suddenly gotten busier than expected (large place but only about 1/4 full, but with 2 large groups, one of which was just seated before us) she came back with waters while we looked at the menu. Once our server came she was polite and took our drink order, promising to be back to take our food order. Understandably it took longer than usual to come back, so another man came to take our order. He apologized for the wait and said he would be happy to take our orders. We think he was the manager or possibly owner, really nice gentleman. We ordered the tiger prawns and Brussels sprouts appetizers, I ordered fish n chips, my husband ordered the rib eye with Mac n cheese and our friend ordered the salmon. The Tiger Prawns and Brussels came out first and the tiger prawns were amazing! 5 large tiger prawns, a couple pcs of toasted baguette, and in a type of white wine garlic Alfredo sauce type. The sauce was perfection, as I dipped each bite of prawn and soaked the accompanied bread. The Brussels were just as amazing, fried to have a nice crisp to it, but not soaking in oil, so they must've been fried in the perfect temp oil or something, and the glaze was just right (a lot of places just drench them in glaze as they're sitting there soaked in oil, but not the case here!) The ribeye was cooked very well (medium rare) and the hubby thought the salt level was PERFECT. It was a little salty for me, but I don't like a lot of salt. My husband almost always orders a good steak when available, and he thought it was great. The accompanying side of veggies were great too! Heavy on the garlic, but we love garlic so we thought it was perfect. The fish n chips were good, fries were ok, but not my style. They were more like shoe string fries, but that's their thing and a lot of people like that style. The tartar sauce was surprisingly good, and not just that cheap store bought stuff a lot of places tend to give. Friend with the salmon said it was good and ate it all. The gentleman that took our order forgot to add the fish n chips, but quickly rectified it, apologizing and bringing out some fries for me to munch on as the fish was getting cooked. Not a big deal to me, as I was already happy with the other items we had. He also came to our table once we were done and chatted with us for a bit, which was very nice of him. Overall the food was pretty good and would recommend stopping here if you have a chance when you have some time to relax while you eat. The staff are all nice personable. Sorry I didn't get to take pics of everything, as we were all really hing
