Not too far from Apple Hill, we LOVED our first time visit here! Chef John bought the Old Town Grill 25 years ago, but has been a Chef for over 50 YEARS!!! WOW! NEVER have I met a more ENTHUSIASTIC Chef, that radiates JOY in what he is doing! :) He made my burger JUST the way I wanted it (delicious too) and my husband RAVED about his flavorful stuffed lamb burger! Our sides were grilled vegetables, fries and the sweet potato dollops. YUM-YUM! It's located in Old Town P-ville, in an 'Old West' turn-of-the-century building, so expect a quirky interior. To me it's part of the charm! And the mascot of the place is a 35 year-old parrot named Sierra, who will squawk a welcome to you! This place is worth a visit! read more

Great spot to eat when coming back down the hill from Apple Hill. Had a great experience at Old Town Grill! The staff were incredibly nice, friendly, and welcoming, which made the visit even better. The food was delicious and clearly made with care. The shaved tri-tip sandwich was absolutely delicious--tender, flavorful Tri tip and served inside a fresh sourdough roll smothered in a delicious beef gravy sauce that really took this sandwich to the next level. The chicken sandwich was also excellent, fresh and packed with great flavor. Great food, wonderful service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely a place I'd recommend and will be coming back to! read more

This is a 3 minus stars. Great location in downtown. It's small and can be busy. You order at the counter and find your own table - no signage but if you walk to the back there is a door to a small rear patio. I took a while but a server eventually took our drink order. It took an inordinate amount of time and one follow up to the kitchen before we received our food. The food was freshly prepared but nothing special despite the descriptions. No plans to return. read more

The restaurant isn't very clean which is a sign that the restaurant kitchen isn't clean either. We discovered when we were running in for the takeout. Burger was pretty good. Bacon super crunchy. Nice ! Is this a religious place though? Weirded out by the music, prayers in washroom, Mary statue on counter! It was takeout ‍ read more

Great stop in historic Placerville. I had the Beast Burger--a blend of elk, buffalo, wild boar, and Wagyu beef--and it was excellent. The sweet potato spuds were just as good and paired perfectly with the burger. What really stood out was the atmosphere and the people. You can tell there's a culinary-minded team behind the restaurant that takes pride in what they do, and it shows in both the food and the service. Whether you eat inside or relax on the patio, it's a great place to slow down and enjoy a meal. Definitely a place I'd stop at again when passing through Placerville. read more

6/5/2025: Ordered inhaling an Elk Burger, Chili, and Coke. It's been a couple years since, returning to Old Town Grill: I was hoping the LAMB Burger was on the regular menu and also, listed on the special menu; however, the lamb burger was absent from both menus. Aside, the delectable, medium-rare Elk Burger didn't taste "gamey," the chili was "DA BOMB," and the Coke was okay: As Ahnold Schwarzenegger has quipped countless times, "AAAHHHH'LL BEEEE BAAAACK!" read more

Service: The staff were so nice, friendly and attentive. Food: We purchased their signature offerings which included a bacon and blue cheese, and mushroom burger with added blue cheese. The hamburgers were extremely flavorful and well balanced. Value: The price for the quality of food is appropriate. I believe the owner is an accomplished chef, and the burgers are worth it. read more

Just heard about the Friday night dinner service so went last night to check it out. Ordered our specials at the counter, and went outside to dine on the patio which was really pleasant at around 7:00pm. I got the crusted tri-tip with au gratin potatoes. It was excellent. The reduction sauce garnished with fried sage slivers really set it off. The grilled salmon belly with cheese tortellini was also delicious. The salmon belly was incredibly tender, but it was the lightly crisped exterior that really made it memorable. The staff were all very nice, and showed genuine appreciation for us being there. I thought $46 for 2 dinners and 2 fountain drinks was a really reasonable price considering the quality. read more

Absolutely love this place. We have been here several times and have yet to have a bad meal. The food is great, love their burgers. The sweet potato dollops are fantastic! They make great shakes too! The employees are all super nice and the owner is very friendly and appreciative! Place is small but they also have outdoor seating in the back. Can't wait to go back. read more

The waiter took a while to come over to our table, we were passed several times without being told I'll be with you or anything. Once the order was finally taken the food arrived quickly. 4.6/5.0 stars. The place has character and a parrot. Other than it being a bit warm inside on this 90+ day and a few flies it's a very good experience. We ordered two burgers, one with a side of grilled vegetables and the other with sweet potato tatter tots. The Hawaiian and the Mushroom burgers are perfect. The Hawaiian has a slab on ham. They also added cookies. The service is very good. read more

I visited the Old Town Grill in Placerville, CA, and had a wonderful experience. I ordered the chicken salad with feta cheese and fresh fruit, and my friend had the oriental chicken salad. Both salads were full of fresh produce and flavors, and as someone who is diabetic, I appreciated the healthy options. The meals were definitely worth the price. The owner, John, was very friendly, and his staff were equally welcoming. Highly recommend! read more

This restaurant is so cute and has amazing service. As soon as we entered we were greeted by several members of the staff. One of the friendliest places I've been in a long time. I ordered the homemade earth burger with a side of dabs ( little sweet potato tater tots). It was all so good and fresh. I would definitely return to this restaurant and I would put this place on the top of my list. So good. read more

Best cheeseburger ever! And grass fed/organic!! Staff is so welcoming and nice...................

Exceptional service and food quality at its best highly recommend for lunch on your own or with a group of friends.

I've been eating here for awhile. I've always liked their food, but the one thing that held me back was the burger buns weren't all that great. They had a tendency to fall apart. I am happy to say that has changed. They have a new bun that makes the burgers here a 5. The buns are soft, chewy, and they hold together to the last bite. The meat, top notch. Most excellent. The salads and veggies here, excellent. Eat here now. My #1 burger in the area now. read more

Recommended by the locals, tried the elk burger. Sat in the back dining area with the parrot. Did not love the food here, overall just disappointed with downtown Placerville. Game over read more

This place is exceptional! Hidden little hole in the wall in downtown. The food is delicious, the staff is kind to each other and wonderful to the customers. My absolute favorite place to get lunch downtown. Service is the absolute best. A place where you're individually thanked each time you come in, and the owner remembers who you are. I love the chicken Dijon sandwich so much! I get it every time. The back patio is so lovely to sit at as well. read more

Food is very good. Seating is very limited and the seating in the back is claustrophobic. But the window seating is great.

Friendly staff and a definitely popular with the locals. Staff is careful with your order and is read back to you prior to accepting payment. Nothing wrong with thoroughness! Food is cooked to order so there is a wait but food is cooked perfectly and presented well. Staff is available to refill your water or beverage and to assist customers. Met the owner briefly and he is extremely welcoming! Highly recommend this establishment. read more

Easily the best burger in town. If I'm coming through Placerville I've got to stop at Old Town Grill. The food is fresh and made with love. The owner John is an incredibly nice man who will remember your name for years and greet you kindly upon walking in on days he is working. The bacon blue cheese burger is a personal favorite. The outdoor seating area is well shaded and lovely. The decor is eclectic and the live parrot living inside the restaurant may not be for everyone but it certainly adds to the unique local charm of the restaurant. This is the lunch spot in Placerville. Don't let the lines scare you away, service is fast and the food is more than worth the wait. read more

Amazing burgers and such a cute interior. Very friendly staff. The burgers were huge and the fries were very good too.

Game burger and chili were excellent. Chef even came out and greeted us. Great experience. Will stop by when in town for now on.

Really enjoyed this little gem on Main Street in Placerville. Charming cozy little place. You kind of feel like you're in someone's cottage. Service was excellent. Very friendly and well informed staff. Sierra, the parrot, was one cool bird! My little one enjoyed her company. The food was terrific. Two people ordered burgers and they were delicious. Two people ordered chicken fingers and those were really tasty and unique! They were different than what you would typically find in other places and I dig that! I mean, let's face it, chicken fingers/tenders/nuggets tend to be pretty similar at most places so preparing them in a way that's different and stands out.. kudos to you! And your honey mustard that it was served with was quite delicious too. I'm not a honey mustard person so that says a lot. I ordered John Studebaker's wheel. This is a Polish sausage sandwich and it was everything I wanted it to be. It was perfect. I must mention that the sides that came out with everything were so nicely prepared as well. The fries, the side salad, and the chili... all prepared so thoughtfully. Love this. My only bone to pick was that the chili could've been served a little bit warmer. Outside of that everything was wonderful and it was a great experience. I wish this place was closer to home because this is exactly the type of place I would eat at all the time if it was in my neighborhood. Great job to all of you, keep up the wonderful work you're doing. Your community is lucky to have you. read more

I have come here a handful of times & I have never been disappointed with the food here. It seems like a hole in the wall kinda place but don't be fooled by its appearance. The food is DELICIOUS! I ordered the Old Town Dog - a spiral cut hot dog eaten on a hamburger bun. It is delicious; plus the side of fries were bomb. The Chicken Salad was really good - an interesting assortment of fruits & veggies & very fresh. The chef was friendly as you get to walk by him to get to your seat & the rest of the staff were nice as well. I can't wait to come back! read more

Old town grill is great! The workers are so friendly, the owner is friendly, really great service. The fries were sooooo good. Crispy, seasoned, delish. The sweet potato dollops, same thing, with a nice sauce drizzled on top. I got the old town burger, which is just the most basic burger they have, & it was not lacking at all. Very good burger! Even for being just the basic. Well cooked & flavored. Hit the spot. My one negative is that they don't have ranch :( but fortunately the food is good enough on its own. I was torn between the regular old town burger and getting the stuffed burger, which has mushroom, garlic & feta, but I chickened out & kept it basic. Next time I'll try the stuffed for sure! There is also a surprise guest in the back room where you eat read more

We were wandering along Main Street and asked a saleswoman in a jewelry store for a recommendation. Her first thought was Old Town. We found it easily. You order at the front and then choose from the inside dining area or the outside patio. Your server brings your food. We had stuffed hamburger and chicken. Both selections were excellent. There are about six sides to choose from. Pasta salad was full of veges and a tasty, but not too salty, dressing. Fries looked and tasted fresh. Our server Evie was sweet and efficient. I'm still trying to get used to a $15 burger, but that is the going rate for an excellent lunch! Try this cool little cafe! read more
