What a special dining experience we got at Old Town Grill! If you think friendly staffs are critical in choosing a nice place to eat, then look no more when you are in Placerville. On our trip back from Tahoe, we stopped Old Town Grill for its burgers. Sure enough, Bacon Cheese Burger, Mushroom Cheese Burger, Baby Cheese Burger, and Chicken Pesto Burger we're all great. Let along the interesting Old Town Dog that transforms the hotdog into a donut shape twister. While we were enjoying the burgers, the waitress Becky constantly checking on us for things that could enhance our dining experience. The highlight was that Chef John himself came out to greet us with his 33-year old parrot Sierra. We had a wonderful conversation. As it becomes obvious that Chef John knows every patrons of the restaurant. We love the burgers for their freshness, juicy taste, and quantity. It would be impossible not to feel full after the meal. This place has a lot of histories and memories. On Black Friday my mom, toddler and I were tired and hungry and needed some food to fill our bellies. As soon as we stepped foot into there doors my initial thought was, this is a bar. It was very crowded and dark inside and I was almost hesitant to bring my toddler in. My mom ventured back and noticed they had seating, so we went up to the counter to begin our order. I ordered the Chicken Pesto Sandwich since I love pesto, unfortunately it was underdressed, dry and a little burnt. They were opened later than usual do to the Placerville Festival of Lights going on, so they could have just been busy and overwhelmed in the kitchen. I chose the salad as my side and thought it was delicious and I enjoyed the balsamic vinaigrette. To drink I went with their fresh brewed in house Tropical Blend Ice Tea, it was delicious!My toddler had the Old Town Dog Sandwich with Grilled Veggies, she loved it and ate the whole dog minus the buns! She was hungry! The service was friendly and top flight. Unfortunately, the food was not. We had 2 of the $16.50 Bacon Cheeseburgers, which came with clam chowder. All of it is cold. And one burger missed getting bacon. I've heard so many good things about this place. I'm not sure what happened. It was 1 pm on a Friday, not overly busy. Absolutely remarkable service and energy in this charming establishment. My fiance, mother and I ordered the bacon cheeseburgers and they were so full of flavor. I love how they use the highest quality meats possible because I have a very sensitive stomach and everything sat right with it here :) Also, the chocolate milkshake I ordered was thick just like I love it! The patio out back was so adorable but it was raining so we decided to sit by the window at the front entrance and it was such a nice feeling watching the rain while enjoying our meals. Also the washrooms were clean and even smelled like baby powder which I loved!! What's not to love about this place?? This restaurant made me feel like I walked into an old film when everyone was so sweet and considerate of each other. The servers, chef, even the customers all treat each other with respect and there's lots of regulars who come here and are very pleased with the food and service as well. I'm so sad that I had not eaten at the Old Town grill sooner. I used to visit Placerville Often when I lived in California. I live in Arizona now but stop by a few times a year. I cannot stop thinking about my Dijon chicken Sandwich and the amazing salad. The dressing on my Salad was an Orange Oregano dressing and I had to ask the chef what it was because it was so good - i wanted to drink the remaining liquid at the bottom of the bowl. I never finish a meal because I get full really fast. I ate the whole sandwich and the whole salad. The chicken was so juicy and bursting with juice. It was all so good. Anyway when I plan my next visit I'll make sure I come on any day except a Tuesday because they are closed Tuesday's. Great little 'hole in wall' locally owned and operated cafe. Indoor and outdoor seating available. It was over 80 degrees tho... so we decided to eat inside with air conditioning in the back room. They are known for their burgers and they offered many different types of meat including elk burgers. I'm not a meat eater, but I was happy to see I could substitute a black bean veggie patty into any of the burgers! My veggie burger was good. And all veggies were very fresh that were included and the sautéed mushrooms were excellent that came with it. I added avocado. Had with a side of fries that were delish and hit the spot. My friend ordered their famous homemade stuffed hamburger without the bun and loved it. It was great to meet the owner. He is so down to earth and really helps his community. I found out that he feeds the homeless and gives them dignity during their rough time. He was a super guy and I hope everyone goes and supports him so he can continue to support the community. Doesn't look like much when you peek in, but the quality of the food is worth coming in. My family was visiting and we decided to go to downtown Placerville. After hours of shopping, we walked by this restaurant and the awesome smell brought us in. We had the waffle fries and oriental salad. OMG, They were soooooo good. I usually do not give reviews whether they're good or not. Since this place is special to us I will say a few words. Their burgers, salads, sandwiches, soups, fries, always exceed the usual expectations if I were just to go pick a place. This became the only grill that serves local bought ingredients. They have really hard working and cool staff. John is usually there and they always do their best to serve their customers well. I wish them more success in the coming future. read more

What a nice little find in the heart of Placerville. We visited them based on a recommendation from the staff at one of the tasting rooms in nearby Apple Hill. We order a bacon cheeseburger and one of the specials of the day shaved lamb in a stuffed, grilled sourdough bun. The burger was great, but the real highlight was the lamb. Not too many places have lamb on the menu so when we saw this we had to try it and it was fantastic. If you like lamb and they happen to have it on the list of the daily specials, get it, you will not be disappointed. In addition to the great lunch, the staff was friendly and accommodating. We went after 2 pm on a Friday afternoon and were able to get a parking spot on the street, otherwise, parking can be a little tight. It is a very simple menu, and they have a special menu as well! The inside is what you would expect from a local hole in the wall burger place! It's very touristy and has a fun family feel! I like simple menus, but I also like going a bit different. I expected the Elk Burger to do that for me, but sadly I was disappointed! I like that you can see the one person cooking right right behind the bar, but it got them in trouble this time! You can tell from how perfectly the patties are rounded and symmetrical that they buy the elk patties pre-packaged! That's not what you want from a local place! Order the elk meat and make the patties! I also asked if I could get it stuffed, since they had a stuffed burger, but she said that comes pre stuffed also! They are finding the easy way out on the making of the patties, and that's not what I want! Take the time, make the patty, make it original each time, and that's when you feel the love behind the cooking!! The cole slaw was absolutely awesome, and the people were super friendly! We ventured out to Placerville on a rainy MLK day and decided to try old town grill. We looked over the extensive burger and sandwich menu. The server suggested the bacon cheeseburger and the special which I believe was a tri tip au jus with a gironzola sauce. We ordered both...one with a side salad and one with fries and shared. Both were delicious. Fries were crisp and the salad was a nice mixed green, cucumber, carrots and a definitely homemade balsamic vinaigrette. All the servers and owner were so friendly. My son had a football game (yes, Allstars ) in Placerville and I scoured Yelp to find a lunch spot that would please the whole family afterward, not to mention hold all of us. Yelp didn't let me down. Old Town Grill is on Main Street in Placerville. Don't drive too fast or you may miss it. We were a party of 9 including Uncle's and Grandparents. You order at the counter and the waitstaff happily delivers to your table. In our case, our table was in the very back of the restaurant, outside in fact. There is a fantastic patio area, tables with umbrellas, a waterfall and lots of room for us. A few of us got burgers and fries, my nephew had the special Chinese Chicken salad. Mimi & Poppa Tom just had coffee. We were all happy with our lunch. The waitress was quick to keep the coffee filled and napkins stocked. If you were mayor of a town, you'd want a lunch spot like Old Town right in the heart of your town. A caring, wonderful staff and an owner who knows how to deliver the highest quality food at a great price. Old Town has won the award for Best Burger in Placerville by the local paper opinion poll for many years now. It shows! It's a classic burger menu, with all the fixings like gourmet ice cream for milkshakes and dessert. Amazing home cut fries and of course the best meat and top end fixings. With each burger comes either a 1/2 side of fries, a nice salad, or the soup of the day. The interior is a mix of an "Ode to the John Deere Company" and the local history of our town. There are more awards hangin on the walls, than you can count. The Old Town also takes good care of the environment to make sure there is not too much waste. You get real bowls with your soup or salad and metal forks and spoons too. I saw no use of plastic, even the to-go soda cups are paper and not the wrong material that will last 400+ years. The service and care by the staff is exemplary and portrayed in many postings in this tool. Hence the 5 star rating.
