It is a very simple menu, and they have a special menu as well! The inside is what you would expect from a local hole in the wall burger place! It's very touristy and has a fun family feel! I like simple menus, but I also like going a bit different. I expected the Elk Burger to do that for me, but sadly I was disappointed! I like that you can see the one person cooking right right behind the bar, but it got them in trouble this time! You can tell from how perfectly the patties are rounded and symmetrical that they buy the elk patties pre-packaged! That's not what you want from a local place! Order the elk meat and make the patties! I also asked if I could get it stuffed, since they had a stuffed burger, but she said that comes pre stuffed also! They are finding the easy way out on the making of the patties, and that's not what I want! Take the time, make the patty, make it original each time, and that's when you feel the love behind the cooking!! The cole slaw was absolutely awesome, and the people were super friendly! This is place is truly a find! My son had a football game (yes, Allstars ) in Placerville and I scoured Yelp to find a lunch spot that would please the whole family afterward, not to mention hold all of us. Yelp didn't let me down. Old Town Grill is on Main Street in Placerville. Don't drive too fast or you may miss it. We were a party of 9 including Uncle's and Grandparents. You order at the counter and the waitstaff happily delivers to your table. In our case, our table was in the very back of the restaurant, outside in fact. There is a fantastic patio area, tables with umbrellas, a waterfall and lots of room for us. A few of us got burgers and fries, my nephew had the special Chinese Chicken salad. Mimi & Poppa Tom just had coffee. We were all happy with our lunch. The waitress was quick to keep the coffee filled and napkins stocked. Kids devoured their burgers and fries and you know they are the worst critics. I personally loved the chicken and mushroom sandwich. Such a charming spot. Great to take out of town guests. read more

If you were mayor of a town, you'd want a lunch spot like Old Town right in the heart of your town. A caring, wonderful staff and an owner who knows how to deliver the highest quality food at a great price. Old Town has won the award for Best Burger in Placerville by the local paper opinion poll for many years now. It shows! It's a classic burger menu, with all the fixings like gourmet ice cream for milkshakes and dessert. Amazing home cut fries and of course the best meat and top end fixings. With each burger comes either a 1/2 side of fries, a nice salad, or the soup of the day. The interior is a mix of an "Ode to the John Deere Company" and the local history of our town. There are more awards hangin on the walls, than you can count. The Old Town also takes good care of the environment to make sure there is not too much waste. You get real bowls with your soup or salad and metal forks and spoons too. I saw no use of plastic, even the to-go soda cups are paper and not the wrong material that will last 400+ years. The service and care by the staff is exemplary and portrayed in many postings in this tool. Hence the 5 star rating. We ventured out to Placerville on a rainy MLK day and decided to try old town grill. We looked over the extensive burger and sandwich menu. The server suggested the bacon cheeseburger and the special which I believe was a tri tip au jus with a gironzola sauce. We ordered both...one with a side salad and one with fries and shared. Both were delicious. Fries were crisp and the salad was a nice mixed green, cucumber, carrots and a definitely homemade balsamic vinaigrette. All the servers and owner were so friendly. Been visiting this place since 2006. I'm unsure why I never left a review. First thing. Off the street it doesn't stand out. It's a small town grill. When you walk in you are ALWAYS greeted. If the owner is there he likely will be on a first name basis with you quickly. John not only is an amazing chef, but hands down is the most genuinely friendly person I have ever met. His staff is cut from the same cloth. Friendly, and always a pleasure to visit. The food. He not only has the best elk burgers and fries (ask for the special sauce) but he caters to many events locally. He catered a friends wedding and it was amazing. He also frequents many charity events throughout the community so quite often I see him at the MORE events, etc. if you aren't local, this is def a place to stop while heading to Apple hill or Tahoe. The Price can be hard to swallow, I will start with that first and foremost so you know what to expect. But, what you get for the price is unbeatable. I have never had a burger meet my quality expectations because my expectations were set from when I was a chef and I knew the freshness of each ingredient. The taste of this burger brought back that nostalgia for me so hard that it made me wish I was back in the kitchen. The burger I had was the freshest burger I have ever had from the beef, to the bacon, to the veggies. You could taste the difference, that nothing had been sitting around waiting to be cooked for a week. It was as if all the ingredients came in that day. While the food is a revelation, the real and true beauty of this place is chef and the staff he has around him. I had the mushroom burger but noticed they have a mushroom fetta garlic burger after I ordered so I will be driving all the way back up there from Citrus Heights just to eat that! 2. Everyone we can in contact with was polite, friendly and was a joy to be around, kudos to whoever does the hiring. Was in the mood for a burger (which is pretty rare for me, I normally am not a hamburger fan) and decided to try out this local spot. Got there early and there was already a line almost out the door! I decided to try the blue cheese burger with mushrooms and OH MY GOSH was it delicious. It came with fries, which were nothing special, but the burger was cooked perfectly and was just the right portion; not too huge, so I didn't leave feeling too full and hating myself. Like most of the little food joints on Main Street, there's not a lot of room to sit but this place has an outdoor patio that would be good for nice day, in addition to a small room in the back of the restaurant. If I could give more stars I would!!!! Road trip day to Placerville and we were in the mood for burgers and of course ended up here. Cozy and quaint atmosphere with the smells of yummy grilled food. Ordered 2 types of burgers: mushroom & Swiss and the blue cheese with bacon and mushrooms. Chose the garlic curly fries on the side of both. Decided to sit at the counter and enjoyed the conversation with owner John and his daughter. Everyone that visited was treated like family and let me tell you they knew everyone by their first names! Very impressive at this point in our society of busyness. Food was delivered and the smell was fantastic. From the first bite to the last everything was soooo deliciously good! Perfectly seasoned and hot. Garlic fries are the best fries we've ever tasted and the burger was better than grandma used to make. Even the soda machine dispensed a good soda high in syrup ratio.
