It's hard to say what's best about this restaurant. The staff is so attentive and very pleasant. The food is amazing. The coffee is so smooth. It has reasonable prices. On Sunday brunch they have great live music. The only problem is it's so hard to decide what to eat and what to drink. We keep returning to try different food. We visited Chez Maryse for the first time on Mother's Day, and while there were definitely some positives, I don't think we got the full experience because of the holiday menu. The restaurant was extremely busy, so I do recommend making reservations ahead of time. The service could have been a little better, but considering how packed it was, it felt more overwhelmed than rude. One thing to know ahead of time: Diet Cokes come in cans, not fountain drinks, so there are no refills. The biggest disappointment for us was the limited menu selection that day. There were mostly sandwiches and not a lot of variety. I ordered the quiche, which ended up needing extra sauces on the side because it felt a little plain on its own. My husband ordered the French toast, and that was actually very good. Ambiance was alright - a little cramped but the live music gave it a touch of class. Overall, I'd still recommend trying this place, just maybe not on a major holiday when the menu is limited and the restaurant is packed. We got the French toast and I got a side of roasted potatoes. The peach macaron was delicious, the best I've ever had I'd say. Dang. Rarely do I eat somewhere and think wow that was so good I can't think of what I would change. I came here for brunch on a weekend and got the ham and cheese croissant with scrambled egg - it came with a side salad and the vinaigrette they make is sooo tasty. Also the French Kiss cold foam latte - soooo good - that was such flavorful coffee - some of the best I've ever had. It's kinda an odd set up bc you walk in and you see the counter to order all the delicious French items and desserts - it's an unassuming space with some decor of French posters and flowers. BUT there's an adjacent room for dining in and it is such a cute space - like what an actual French cafe would look like. On Sundays between 10-2pm they have live jazz music too. This will definitely be on my list of brunch places to frequent! read more

Cute space and bigger than it seems from the outside. They do seem under staffed though. There seemed to be just one person greeting, seating, taking orders, running the cash register, etc. She did a great job considering it was on her own, but it does impact a servers ability to be attentive and friendly when they are doing the job of (at least) three people. It seems there was also only one person working in the kitchen. Crepe and latte were good. Not great. But good. I wish they had Josie made syrups for their coffee or at least a better brand. Even Monin would be good (it's French so it would be fitting). Torani is what I expect when coffee is an after thought. Or a joke coffee syrup that somebody bought at...well any where. Have eyed this place on Yelp and finally went with daughter and her family. Tried several French pastries including Pistachio Paris-Brest, custard filled pastry, large macron, and raspberry mousse cake. All were delicious and elegantly served. I tried the Basque chicken crepe which comes with a side salad with yummy vinaigrette. It was so delicious and flavorful. I had for lunch with a magnificent cappuccino. Others tried Salmon crepe, croissant sandwich with pickled veggies and a Croque Monsieur. It was all so delicious and eloquently served in a beautiful dining room atmosphere. Was a bit noisy at first as they was a large table of ladies conversing, but once they departed it was much better. Next morning my son in law went back and got us a variety of croissants for breakfast ( almond, chocolate, butter) which we shared and they were the freshest, lightest and tastiest I've ever had!! Was greeted and attending a lunch before going to the opera on a Saturday. It was very busy. Even though it was busy, this is great. They must be doing so well that they have expanded their restaurant into another whole room. Because of the Christmas season, they had a huge Christmas tree in the front window and tons of very elegant seating. The third dining room area is elegant and sophisticated in decor and has plenty of seating for large parties. This is slightly different than the fresh and vibrant pastry cabinet front area. A nice addition as it provides two different styles of eating within the same restaurant. Fabulous. The service was great as always, and they have expanded their menu a little bit lots of great crêpes, I had the salmon with avocado on toast, and it looked like a little flower of avocado - so pretty and elegant. Okay, so I have kind of a mixed view about this place because I have mixed feelings. I feel like it can be great for someone that frequently comes here, but not so great for someone that doesn't come here regularly. The service was rough! We walked in and were immediately greeted to be seated. I explained that we just wanted to grab some food to go, and the person said, "Well, walk over there," and then proceeded to walk away from us. The next person that tried to help us seemed to be very confused. We asked about their drinks on the sign that was outside in front of their store. They had no idea what we were talking about and actually made us go walk outside to read the sign and then come back in and tell them what the sign said. Everyone seemed lost and it was just an awkward experience. The food was really good though. The h croissant was wonderful. Perfectly pillowy and wonderfully tasty, flakey, enjoyable lawyers. This was my first visit to Chez Maryse in Fresno, after my friend Diana suggested we go, and it ended up being such a cute spot for a coffee date. From the pastry case, we tried the Napoleon and a heart-shaped raspberry mousse. The Napoleon was a bit too sweet for my taste, especially since I grew up with a Slavic-style Napoleon that doesn't have a sugary glaze, but the raspberry mousse was a win--light, tangy, and really pretty. I love this local gem! It has become my favorite spot to grab pastries. So far, I prefer the croissant items over the beautiful desserts - but I'll still try them all, lol. Once, we walked in not knowing they were closed and they still took our order. I felt embarrassed after the fact, yet they were so kind. Luckily, I was picking up pastries to go. I'm grateful for their kindness because I got to share them with my brother and his family when my brother was in the hospital. Came for Sunday brunch with a friend to this new and adorable French cafe! They had a live band, which was quite loud in the main part of the cafe but ok in the additional space. The band also played beautifully, but a bit loud for my taste. There are many different people who act as your server and all were attentive and helpful! The food was fresh, flavorful and delicious. The coffee was also quite good. The cafe is a little bit off the beaten path, nothing really around, but it is worth the drive. We spent about 3 hours there, eating, chatting and enjoying the space. Live jazz music, the varieties they have now. I got an iced strawberry matcha and chantilly strawberry standing rose. I've came here two times. First time was on a Saturday morning in July with a friend. My friend was worried the service would be slow, because she had been here before and had a bad experience with the slow services. Ambiance is cute. The service was way too slow. Not sure what was going on when we just ordered two items off the menu and three desserts. It was nice that folks kept checking in on us to see if we needed anything, but that was just ongoing. A small family of four came in and sat next to us about 15 mins after the waiter got our order. It was nice that they received some free desserts due to the long delay and wait. I most likely won't be returning as the food was mediocre (not memorable), and the wait was way too long. Went into the establishment to have an anniversary brunch celebrating 8 years with my wife and kids (2 & 5) sat down around 12 and ordered shortly after. No one checked on us and no one brought us our drink order. I assumed they would bring it with the food because they were hot drinks (a hot chocolate for my 5 year old and a coffee for my wife) after 30 min I started to worry but someone came by to refill our waters so I gave them another 10 minutes. After watching everyone around us who sat down at the same time finishing their meals I went to the cashier to ask about our order and she was unaware we haven't received even our drinks even tho she was the one who took our order. She said it would only be a few more minutes I went to sit back down and from my seat I could see she started to put in my order. I got back up and told her to cancel it and we would just leave. I came here today with two friends and had a really delicious omelette with salmon and spinach. I didn't get to see much of the restaurant because we sat at the first table by the entrance. At 10:30, the restaurant was full. When I arrived, my friends were already seated with water. Coffee was quickly brought out to me. About ten minutes after that, someone came by to take our order. Our food was a bit of a wait but we had plenty to talk about and as I said, it was full, including a large group in the middle. The food is worth the wait. My omelet contained a tender filet of salmon. I wish there had been more spinach but I always wish for greens haha my friends' dishes - veggie crepe (loaded with fresh veggies) and ham and egg croissant sandwich - were also yummy and beautifully presented. Each dish came with a small salad with house vinaigrette, really good and not overdressed! Service was good. There were plenty of waitstaff; my coffee cup stayed full. The cups are small and the coffee good so I appreciated that. They did get a little confused when it came time to pay because we were paying for one friend's lunch and then we purchased a few of the giant croissants. My daughter and I are making breakfast sandwiches with them in the morning and we both can hardly wait haha! I want to mention that on this Sunday, there was live band playing jazz. I loved it but we were on the other side of the restaurant with a partial wall divider; it would have been too loud for me if I'd been closer. Anyway, You pay at the counter when you're done. Ambiance was charming with plenty of indoor seating and limited outdoor seating. We arrived during a busy Saturday morning which did not seem to faze the friendly staff. We were immediately seated with menu and water provided promptly. Slight wait for food but understandable given both the quality of the food and busyness. The Basque crepe was flavor packed without being heavy and a perfect portion. I recommend ordering spicy which gets its heat from sriracha. My husband ordered the croque Madame which is a croque monsieur, topped with a fried egg. I stole a bite and it was delicious though the egg did seem to take away the crunch of its namesake sandwich. My only regret was splitting a chocolate croissant..the pastries are too delicious to share! read more
