I have been lucky enough to enjoy quite a few fancy, Michelin-starred meals over the years, but it is rare to find an experience that you just know you will be savoring for years to come. That is exactly what happened during my recent dinner at Elderberry House. I visited with a group of four, and between us, we had two gluten-free diners and one vegetarian. After a quick heads-up the day before, the restaurant handled our needs with total ease. We went for the five-course tasting menu, and it was incredible from start to finish. We kicked things off with one of the best oysters I have ever had, followed by a beautiful tuna presentation. The kitchen even looked out for our gluten-free friends with a special version of their herbal-butter focaccia that was actually delicious. By the time the main courses arrived, I honestly could not decide if I liked my beef or my friend's snap pea risotto better; every single bite was pure perfection. The cocktails were another high point. My first drink was great, but after chatting with our server, Jordan, I decided to try the Last Word. It featured that hard-to-find green chartreuse, and I am a little annoyed to report that I have a new favorite cocktail that requires such a rare ingredient. The service is what really made the night so special. Jordan was so charismatic and helpful, making sure we were perfectly taken care of all evening. He was so good that I almost worried a second visit would not be the same without him, though the rest of the staff quickly put that fear to rest. Abby was so friendly and responsible for a truly unique but perfect-for-the-vibe playlist, and Chris the mixologist even stopped by to geek out about gin and cocktails with us. From the genuine care for our food sensitivities to the clever touch of the iPad check-in hidden in an elegant binder, it was a night for the books. The previous time we went and had a pre-fixe dinner it was great. This time, 2 years later, we stopped by at their bar for some bites. The chairs are horrifically uncomfortable to sit on, the food took a long time to come out, and they only had 4 options for food. We got 3 dishes: 1. lobster spaghetti - giant pile of plain spaghetti, unsalted, with some tough as a shoe lobster drenched in what seemed like mushroom gravy. Very overpriced and barely edible. $52 2. Philly cheesesteak - mediocre, not enough fillings for a large piece of bread. Felt empty, like chewing on a loaf. Fries were ok. 3. Catch of the day was -- scallops (really?) - literally 3 small scallops, one carrot, and some sauce for 42$. Overall I would say its detestable to treat your customers this way. Not sure if they are under new management or something, but we definitely felt taken advantage of and ripped off. We would have sent it all back but it took so long to get the food and the only other thing left to get was a burger. read more

Tried this place on a Friday night. It is best if you get there early like we did if you want a table. Very small cellar area. It only has 3 two person and 1 four person table with about ten seats at the bar. We were the second couple to get a seat around 5:20 but it sure did fill up quickly afterwards. My wife ordered the butternut squash soup which was Stupendous. It came with this thinly sliced bread with a little crunch with it. Both were amazing. The second part was we shared a Philly cheese steak sandwich. It was really good except for it was a little salty. It comes with fries too. The bar tender was very friendly and professional. We did not have any drinks but it sure looked like he knows how to mix some amazing things. Overall I would give this place a 4.25 stars due to the salty sandwich. Sure glad we did try this place. My man made a reservation to celebrate my birthday during our romantic getaway. This charming restaurant complemented the Chateau where we stayed. Elegant and classy, but warm and welcoming. We each had the Five-Course Meal with a Wine Pairing: Smoked Steelhead Trout -with cauliflower, trout roe, dill Braised Beet Root -with cabbage, hazelnut, black garlic yogurt Olive Oil Poached Halibut -cannellini bean, summer squash, tomatillo Beef Tenderloin -maitake mushroom, caramelized onion, parsnip Paris-Brest -with apple, bourbon, maple-pecan mousseline While the meal is described as "five courses," it included three additional dishes. We were treated to a delightful amuse-bouche of lobster, creatively presented on a charcuterie board, made from a redwood bark that they cut up and coated with epoxy. Another brilliant addition was pumpkin bread topped with shaved almonds and pistachios. To finish our meal, we enjoyed a plate of macarons and dark chocolates. We were not fans of the dark chocolates since they tasted like mud, but we appreciated the thoughtfulness of this final touch. The wine pairings were excellent! The sommelier did an outstanding job complementing the wines to each dish. While I don't remember the selections and wasn't able to take pictures of some, our favorite was the red wine, the Ornellaia 2020. My fiancée and I shared a meal that felt less like dinner and more like a love letter to us on the night before our wedding. Each plate told a story, one of bold flavors, unexpected favorites, and the kind of elegance that lingers. We began with raw oysters and aguachile, a briny, fiery welcome that set the tone. Then came a savory custard with salmon roe and tarts filled with raw salmon; creamy, rich, and delicate in all the right ways. The Hamachi crudo, dressed in leche de tigre and crowned with radish, may have been the dish of the night. Bright, confident, and flawless. This was my now wife's favorite. A butternut squash brioche with herb butter followed. Comforting, really good, though slightly overshadowed by what had come before. Then came a true surprise: a salad. Yes, a salad. With sugar snap peas, fava bean pesto, prosciutto, and parmesan. For someone who doesn't do greens, this dish earned really high praise from me. The halibut arrived seared to perfection, swimming in a pine bud nage that tasted like springtime. This was my favorite. Then came the knockout: ribeye with morels, ramps, and potato espuma. A dish that could've ended the evening right there. Everything together was as perfect a bite as I could have imagined for the evening. But dessert had the final word. A strawberry-rhubarb curd cookie with sesame ice cream, the perfect balance between sweet and tart, soft and crisp. Last, a white miso chocolate tart with berries transformed into a sort of soft, tangy candy. Each course was a chapter. The wine was perfect for my fiancée. The service was perfect. Never knew this amazing place of real fine dining existed in Fresno! Located in Oakhurst, it is an exclusive French restaurant set in the beautiful mountain side. They even have their menus personalized to greet the guests. The food is served in interesting platters and in small portions. But is filling, tasty, elegant and a feast for the eyes. Wine pairing is available. This is one restaurant where the chef took extra interest to create a vegetarian five course meal for me. Far cry from other fancy restaurants like this including 71Above in Los Angeles which failed miserably when it came to vegetarian options. Good parking in this chateau tucked away in the mountain. We have been going to the Elderberry House for 10+ years. The ambiance is magnificent and the service could not be better, however the food quality is now disappointing. The starter was fair at best, the entree offered only two choices--fish or steak, and the desert was nothing special. To celebrate a birthday, we decided to splurge and go to this restaurant. The grounds and restaurant are absolutely gorgeous, very well kept and maintained. The interior of the restaurant is flawlessly appointed and very gracious. The staff at the restaurant was very professional, very friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and very interested in assuring we enjoyed our experience. Note, please, that I said "experience", and not "dinner". A meal here is not just "dinner". It's a culinary experience, and a fantastic experience that. We chose the five course meal. The food was perfectly prepared, perfectly presented and perfectly served, one amazing course at a time. The food is well thought out, and the portions perfect to provide a meal over the leisurely pace. And there is no hurry. One needs time to appreciate each course. Our experience took something over two hours, and it was fantastic. In addition to the amazing food, we chose a couple of unique, specially prepared cocktails, and a truly wonderful Malbec. We cannot recommend this place enough, but be aware: again, this is not where you go for a quick dinner. The price of the experience is not for the faint of heart, but it is worth every cent. I will start with one significant negative, as I don't think there's much more than that to criticize. Here it is: the menu is the same every night at least for a season. We are staying for three nights at the Château and I would not plan to eat here three nights in a row or even two nights in a row. Another potential negative is the cost. If it bothers you to break the $500 mark for your dinner with accompanying wine selections, you will be upset. Those things aside, the service was magnificent. Oddly, we were the only table in the entire restaurant on a Wednesday night in September. We got incredible attention, and the service was extremely pleasant and accommodating. The ambiance was nice except for the place being empty. The room is beautiful. Now to the food: the ahi tuna Crudo was terrific. We also really like the seared scallops and the accompanying shiitake mushroom (just one) and even the turnips. The dessert was a pickled plum BAVAROIS. Never had one of those before. I prefer my plums unpickled, but nevertheless, it was also quite good, especially the goat milk and sorrel base. The wine pairings were also decent. My favorite was the Austrian Riesling that provided a nice sweetness to accompany the mild spice in the Aji tuna Crudo. We had a white wine from château Musar from Lebanon that went reasonably well with the scallops, but I didn't think it was outstanding. My wife is a big fan of dessert wines, and she really liked the. moscato. All in all, it's a good restaurant and one suitable for a special occasion. Tax plus automatic 22% tip are added to the cost of the meal. 4.5 stars rounded up to five. read more

We always bring guests from the Bay Area because of their unique concept to this area and the great ambience. Our recent guests are from the San Francisco Bay Area and are well-seasoned diners and travelers so their expectations were high. Unfortunately, our pride for this establishment was diminished when we dined there recently. Overall, the staff came off as a bit obsequious and unauthentic. As for the food courses, there was a 'sameness' to each course. Several dishes were overly salted. Though most of the dish presentations were beautiful, some were presented on what looked like a petri dish - which reminded us of our science project at school. The courses with foam seem a bit passé. We're not falling back to the 90's. I want to boast to everyone about this opulent establishment, but I can honestly say I'm rather disappointed and can only garner a high 3 (although I'm honoring it with a 4). On top of that, there was a 22% service charge added to our bill, plus the long delay from one dish to the next was excruciating painful to bear. I can't stop recommending this place to my friends! I made the reservation and stated it is for hubby's birthday, and they customized the menu with his name on top wishing him a happy birthday. When we arrived, they sat us down by the fireplace. It was so perfect and romantic. We chose the 3-course set, but they provided an appetizer from the culinary team before the first course, and a homemade bread in between the first and second course. The bread was a little crispy outside and fluffy inside. I couldn't stop eating. Every course was just flavorful and creative. They claim their style is French-Californian, but I suspect that they add a little Japanese style in their cuisine as well. Just subtle and beautiful. I especially like their warm hospitality. They surprised us with two chocolate tarts and a candle to celebrate hubby's birthday. We feel welcomed and cared for. We will definitely come back. I'm gluten-free but have a few other allergies which they have always taken great care to provide me food I can eat. They obviously have my list of allergies and as mentioned have always accommodated them until this year. They said sorry we can accommodate gluten-free but none of your other allergies. The atmosphere is rather romantic with historical charm while the food is modern and light. Their attention to detail was superb. We opted for the 3-course meal, with one of us getting the wine pairing. I ordered the "All I want is Yuzu" cocktail; it was so good that I ended up ordering another. I also selected the lamb as my entree. It was incredibly tender and juicy, I probably wouldn't have been able to tell it was lamb if I was blindfolded. Our only, not concern, but surprise was the pumpkin panna cotta. Being from the east coast, it was rather autumnal for it being May and 75 degrees here in California. This was probably our top dining experience ever! The room transports you to a romantic, charming European setting. We sat next to a beautiful fireplace, and the mantle was adorned with holiday boughs and candles. Wow! We splurged on the caviar and perfectly prepared warm bellinis. So worth it. The chefs muse bouche was creative, delicious and astonishing, plated on a ponderosa pine bark, that had been coated with resin. What a delightful reminder, that we are surrounded by magnificent trees. Each course had a wine pairing, and everything was described in extraordinary detail, which added to the deliciousness of each bite. I can't tell you my favorite dish, because they were all amazing. Be sure to share with your dining partners. I also have to admit, we went to the happy hour in the bar the night before. The bar menu is completely different and we were also delighted with the delicious sea bass croquets and olive oil poached halibut. I also have to mention that the bartender was a true cocktail artisan and it was so fun to see him make our smoked bourbon drinks and the Grinch macha infused vodka. Absolutely fantastic and elegance at its finest. In the most unsuspecting place, nestled into a corner outside of Yosemite is this gem of a restaurant. I will admit, I was skeptical. An expensive restaurant serving seemingly French food and wine? In Yosemite? But I am extremely glad I came. I chose the 4 courses, because if you're going to do it may as well do it right. The three courses comes with a starter, entree, and dessert, no appetizer. I did overhear that you can sub out the dessert for an appetizer, for an extra 10 dollar charge. The do offer an amuse-bouche and a complimentary after dinner bitem both of which delicious and such an elegant move. The soup of the day was absolutely a burst of flavor in my mouth, all distinct flavors melding together to create the best soup I've ever had. It even had a great crunch and texture from the pine nuts. The appetizer of a seared ahi tuna was unlike anything I've had before. I am a sushi/sashimi aficionado, and I've never had a seared ahi tuna like this one. The halibut. Omg the halibut. Crispy delicious exterior, perfectly cooked interior of flakiness, all married together with a subtle yet perfect sauce. Comes with 3 gnocchi pieces, topped with caviar. Might be the best bite I've ever had. Dessert wise, I got the sorbet cocktail trio. It was so refreshing and innovative. Instead of a heavy cocktail or an overly sweet sorbet, these three were an absolutely wonderful way to end the palate on a refreshing and crisp note. The service was impeccable. Extremely knowledgeable servers and hosts, Erika knew everything there was to know about the menu and wine list. My water glass was literally never empty. Impeccable. The menu changes a bit every once in a while, for seasonal rotations. Instead of being disappointed for something you were eyeing, I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised! The meal was definitely not on the cheap side. This place screams luxury, which is a much needed change from the surrounding yosemite area (American, quick and easy, intense hiking and only protein bars). The hotel is also available to book, again high price, but luxury. They do also have a spa. I was eyeing the Swedish massage for two. I imagine it would have been relaxed me into a Jello puddle. The dining rooms are ornately regal, especially the private room, where our party of nine was seated. Food: B. The Elderberry House kitchen team presents inspiring dishes that are like works of art. French-Californian cuisine is featured in a three or four course set-price dinner menu. Presentation is thoughtful, refined, and exquisite. Unfortunately, though, eyes to mouth senses may disconnect due to lackluster flavour; the beautifully unique plates fail to deliver the same spectacular punch of ooph in taste. Piquancy can definitely be turned up a notch to match the caliber of the culinary artworks. Gourmands with high expectations may not be fully enchanted. Service: A+. Jesse H. was our server who delivered flawless service. Surprisingly, my favorite part turned out to be the bread--I always ask if they're considering opening a bakery so I can buy some, haha. A truly unique and creative dining experience! Located in the sprawling Château du Sureau castle resort, this magical restaurant is a must visit. The restaurant is located at the front of the property just up the stairs from the parking lot. Parking was ample, close and without charge. The ambience was dimly lit, full of charm, elegant and chateau-like. The vibe was relaxed and enchanting. The restaurant menu was a three or four course tasting menu that was sourced from local farms. The menu was preset but since my daughter advised them of our vegetarian dietary restrictions when she made the reservations, they had a special menu waiting for us. The menu consisted of a very creative selection of bread, salad (aka weeds), Carrot Panna Cotta with a pea emulsion on top, pea tartlets, Couscous (main course) and Angel Food Cake with strawberry, goats milk ice cream, and meringue on top. The drink menu consisted of creative mixed drinks and local wines. My daughter had the Strawberry Green Tea Vodka Clarified Cocktail. Everything was vibrant in color, fresh, beautiful and artistically plated. Every item was wonderful in taste and texture. The flavors kept us guessing. The "tasting" portion sized were perfect for us. We savored the flavors of each item, one bite at a time and we were stuffed when it was all said and done. Service was unrivaled. Everyone was well-groomed, professionally dressed, welcoming, pleasant, attentive and helpful. Our server, Jesse H., was particularly exemplary! He was personable, charismatic and accommodating. He paid attention to detail remembering each one of my many item alterations (no dairy, nuts, etc.). Kudos also to the behind the scene chef(s) who created the menu and adjusted it to cater to our needs. When the bill came, it was presented in a little customized wooden treasure box with two adorably plated macarons. The bill included a service fee and an area for additional tip (hopefully specifically for the server) was available. Pricing was appropriate for this type of experience. The Elderberry House - French Near Me - Oakhurst, California

Well we thought we would splurge and make the drive to The Elderberry House for Happy Hour. I was so excited to have caviar and a great martini. We had heard alot of great things from our friends. Boy were we extremely disappointed. Made the 30 minute drive to find out they were not serving food as they were having a party in the other room and couldn't provide food for both areas. So we decided, we will have some great cocktails and enjoy our friends. There were 6 of us and the only other couple had already been served. It took the bartender quite a while to make my martini and one cocktail for one of our friends, he then went to help some new people that walked in after us, without making the rest of our drinks first. Then he told my husband he could only have one olive as they only had 6. Then another cocktail couldn't be made as they were out of the ingredients. He then took my husband's glass to make him another cocktail as they didn't have any more glasses. Everyone in our group was extremely disappointed, so we paid our bills and left. We went down the road, got amazingly good cocktails and dinner within 20 minutes for all of us. We will not be going back to the Elderberry. read more

Highly recommend. Keri was kind, patient and accomodating. Andrea was kind, patient ad. Went above and beyond to make sure to take noye of my allergies. The people who prepared my food made sure it didn't poison me. I enjoyed the Brand Farm's Ribeye with garlic miso and shoe string fries and the smoked hibiscus and the elderberry blosom.
