We decided to come here and were super excited to get out into the town. We were seated immediately for a group of 9 outside. The server was very nice and our food came out quicky. I really enjoyed getting my cinnamon roll and side of hash browns they were delicious. Everyone also really enjoyed their food and there were no leftovers! Well, I was certainly mislead by this restaurant's good reviews. After I walked in I was promptly greeted. The waiter asked if I wanted a coke or iced tea, I ordered iced tea as I didn't have a chance to peruse the menu before he arrived. After, I saw a menu with the drinks I had an in pictures online, so I ordered a margarita. I got the iced tea, it was pretty good. Then the margarita came. Looked nothing like the menu, and tasted EXACTLY like a margarita tastes without ANY tequila in it. I asked a waitress if the margaritas come with tequila, she said "Oh does it taste like no tequila is in there? I can bring you a shot" and she then brought me a shot of tequila. She didn't seem surprised, does this happen often here? After I got my food, (I ordered the bacon abs blue cheese burger) I noticed something strange in my fries... I asked my waiter what it was and he said he didn't have his glasses and couldn't tell. He tried to walk away and said "Maybe she can tell then?" The waitress said "hmm, I guess it's part of the batter?" Gross. At the end of it all, they didn't make me confident they knew what it was, no attempt to better the situation. The waiters just didn't care. I highly recommend skipping this place. I wont ever return if I'm in town again. I'd rather go to the 41 BBQ spot. read more

So after a long day hiking in Yosemite, the idea of an avocado,bacon, chicken sandwich sounded sublime. Unfortunately, our order was to go and we did not check it until back at our hotel. Surprise, it was a BC sandwich (bacon, chicken). Really wanted the avocado. Didn't want to be a pain but wanted to make sure the cook got other orders right. What did Mountain Oaks do? The hostess apologized, the manager apologized *and* they made a complete replacement ABC sandwich the next day (it was pretty late when I called). So mistakes happen but WOW! We came at Monday 6pm, and it was pretty empty. There is also a cash discount. We liked it so much that we came back a 2nd time. The service was nice and helped us with the menu choices. There are senior lunches and dinners which are less costly but also smaller than the regular portions - they didn't ask for my parents' ID. Perhaps they look very old! The prices generally seemed reasonable, and most entrees came with some sort of side. Portions were huge - we struggled finishing it. The potato side can come mashed, baked, or as french fries. Senior country fried steak: asked for gravy on the side, and with soup (pozole today), garlic bread, and coleslaw. I thought it was just okay, but the gravy was indulgent. Senior pork ribs: tender meat with not too much sauce. The french fries are similar to McDonalds although I wish it was crispier. We had this with salad and I appreciate that the dressing comes on the side. Senior tri tip: I wouldn't get this, it was on the drier side. We did substitute sweet potato fries and these were decent although I could've used a little more crisp. Apple pecan salad: A good balance of all the veggies with crispy salad on top. It comes with garlic bread but they didn't provide it this time. I didn't ask though because there was already so much food. Salmon salad: the salmon was surprisingly tender, and large. I liked this salad more than the apple pecan, primarily due to the salmon. Seafood alfredo: shrimp was similarly not overcooked and great texture. The problem though was that the Alfredo sauce was too salty. I don't remember if the pasta was overcooked or not. Fish and chips: It came with 8 long pieces! And amazingly, the batter wasn't greasy although I wish it was slightly crispier. I'd get this again. How does this place stay in business?? read more

To get almost 5 stars on yelp you got to be really good . Sorry no pics we were all hungry . Our friends Donna and bob , Donna had the omelette cheese and ham she love it . Bob had the chicken fried steak also but not the breakfast like me he had the dinner one with mashed potatoes he must of love it it was all gone . My wife also had the omelette she love it . Wow we discovered this gem of a restaurant as we were traveling home from Yosemite. It looked packed from the outside. We checked on the wait time and were told about 20 minutes. We were sat at our table within 10 minutes. I had the Mexicali breakfast. It is Grilled Carna Asada, hadhbrowns with chorizo, beans and eggs with flour tortillas. It was the BOMB. We stopped in for breakfast at Mountain Oaks Café yesterday morning for my 30th birthday before heading up to Yosemite - the entire staff was so kind and welcoming to us! We ordered coffee and a mimosa (because birthday brunch is a must), along with the steak and eggs, chicken fried steak, and the cinnamon roll French toast to share. Everything was delicious--the steak was perfectly grilled (medium rare), the chicken fried steak had a crispy, flavorful batter, and the gravy was rich and comforting. Even the sourdough and wheat toast came pre-buttered, which I love! My favorite? The cinnamon roll French toast. It tasted like fall--warm, soft, sweet, and paired perfectly with real maple syrup. TLDR: Baby back Ribs, Half-rack Not sure, if it's because we were hungry, after a long drive from home. BUT, the onion rings were crispy, with a mix of big and small circles. It wasn't too bready either. It was a great onion ring. It normally comes with ranch, which i'm not fond of, but they graciously gave me some BBQ sauce as well. I liked that more... it's a generic BBQ sauce, mostly sweet and a tiny bit tangy, but still good. I am so glad I ordered "only" a half-rack, because it was still HUGE! It came in 2 sets of 4, and I only was able to finish 1 set. I shudder to think what a whole-rack would look like! Just as the menu advertised, it EASILY came off the bone. I was able to use a fork to gently pry the meat off. It wasn't completely slathered in BBQ sauce, which I appreciate. I still prefer to dunk the meat in sauce, but I was able to taste the smoky meat. It was great! My wife ordered the blackened chicken pasta. I always worry, since blackened can EASILY transition to BURNT. But in this case, it had the smoky flavor that we want, without being charred. THe pasta was a bit too creamy for my wife, so she wasnt able to finish even half of it. Oh, I also appreciate that both dishes came with garlic bread. The bread is sooo good! Crispy crust, good garlic flavor, excellent bread. The waitress was super friendly as well. The food amazing. I love chilaquiles and the chilaquiles at Mountain Oaks just took the top spot. It's delicious. We walked right in and were greeted and seated immediately.
