Took my parents, the handicap parking is well placed and close to the front door. Lots of TVs - the Dodger game was on, which was a plus for us. And if you like soccer, they had that on too. We stopped here for an afternoon snack on our way to Yosemite. Ordered a tri-tip sandwich with sweet potato fries that was really delicious. There was a generous amount of meat that was well cooked in sandwich and the bun was nicely toasted. We came back the next day for dinner because we really enjoyed the sandwich, and this time we tried the tri tip dinner instead. Comparing the two - I actually enjoyed the sandwich more because the dinner tri tip was a bit drier. The pro is that the dinner comes with vegetables, garlic bread, and soup. What an amazing find while we are staying in Mariposa. We went to the Giant Sequoia's and on our way we stopped at this "pre" planned Yelp spot. Parking is pretty easy. They have overflow towards the left when you drive up the incline. You wait to be seated. We were offered an inside table but requested a patio table instead. They accommodated us but it took an additional 10-15 minutes. It was WORTH the wait. The patio is nicely shaded and offers a better experience than say..... Denny's. I ordered their "fantastic" chicken fried steak, 2 eggs over easy, 2 pancakes, and country potatoes. Everything was great! Our server was an awesom dude. You will know it's him when he addresses you as "Amigo." Love you man! Coffee was good and strong and they offered shelf stable 1/2 & 1/2. They have Tobasco, Cholulu, and I believe he said Tapatio. I went with the Cholulu and it was an awesome addition to the CFS. We loved this place. It fueled us up for the grueling hike we did. 5* !!!!! It's nice when you score a WIN choosing a place to eat in an unfamiliar town. This one's a win. Middle of the afternoon and it's buzzing with locals (always a good sign). Three Cheese burger was huge, well-seasoned, and loaded with tasty things. I chose a side salad (many other options) and it was crisp, tasty. Friendly servers, and a good crew at this "between hour". Decided to visit Mountain Oaks Cafe for a steak dinner while in Oakhurst. I've been to this location several times before when in the Oakhurst/Yosemite area. For this visit, ordered the following: ***Buffalo wings for appetizers 4/5 ***12 ounce ribeye medium rare with baked potato and veges $32. Also served with garlic bread 4/5 ***For dessert, got a red velvet cheesecake 5/5 Got a lemonade for a drink. All the items were delicous! The ribeye cooked medium rare as requested was super tender. Stayed super close to this place on a recent Yosemite trip and tried it out for dinner. We each ordered a pasta which came with a side of soup or salad. I tried the shrimp Alfredo over fettuccine with a side salad. My boyfriend, I believe tried their steak and shrimp pasta, but I can't remember what sauce he got. Well, I was certainly mislead by this restaurant's good reviews. After I walked in I was promptly greeted. The waiter asked if I wanted a coke or iced tea, I ordered iced tea as I didn't have a chance to peruse the menu before he arrived. After, I saw a menu with the drinks I had an in pictures online, so I ordered a margarita. I got the iced tea, it was pretty good. Then the margarita came. Looked nothing like the menu, and tasted EXACTLY like a margarita tastes without ANY tequila in it. I asked a waitress if the margaritas come with tequila, she said "Oh does it taste like no tequila is in there? I can bring you a shot" and she then brought me a shot of tequila. She didn't seem surprised, does this happen often here? After I got my food, (I ordered the bacon abs blue cheese burger) I noticed something strange in my fries... I asked my waiter what it was and he said he didn't have his glasses and couldn't tell. He tried to walk away and said "Maybe she can tell then?" The waitress said "hmm, I guess it's part of the batter?" Gross. At the end of it all, they didn't make me confident they knew what it was, no attempt to better the situation. The waiters just didn't care. I highly recommend skipping this place. I wont ever return if I'm in town again. I'd rather go to the 41 BBQ spot. read more

I was staying in Ahwahnee on a girls trip and we wanted a cute brunch place. The town is small so there weren't a lot of options but we found this place with a nice view, margs, and brunch all day. We decided to come here and were super excited to get out into the town. We were seated immediately for a group of 9 outside. The server was very nice and our food came out quicky. We had a party of nine, and they were able to seat us pretty easily. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and the overall vibe is very cute, simple, and cozy, definitely giving that homey diner feel. The menu has a great mix of both savory and sweet options. We came at Monday 6pm, and it was pretty empty. There is also a cash discount. We liked it so much that we came back a 2nd time. The service was nice and helped us with the menu choices. There are senior lunches and dinners which are less costly but also smaller than the regular portions - they didn't ask for my parents' ID. Perhaps they look very old! The prices generally seemed reasonable, and most entrees came with some sort of side. Portions were huge - we struggled finishing it. The potato side can come mashed, baked, or as french fries. Senior country fried steak: asked for gravy on the side, and with soup (pozole today), garlic bread, and coleslaw. I thought it was just okay, but the gravy was indulgent. Senior pork ribs: tender meat with not too much sauce. The french fries are similar to McDonalds although I wish it was crispier. We had this with salad and I appreciate that the dressing comes on the side. Senior tri tip: I wouldn't get this, it was on the drier side. We did substitute sweet potato fries and these were decent although I could've used a little more crisp. Apple pecan salad: A good balance of all the veggies with crispy salad on top. It comes with garlic bread but they didn't provide it this time. I didn't ask though because there was already so much food. Salmon salad: the salmon was surprisingly tender, and large. I liked this salad more than the apple pecan, primarily due to the salmon. Seafood alfredo: shrimp was similarly not overcooked and great texture. The problem though was that the Alfredo sauce was too salty. I don't remember if the pasta was overcooked or not. Fish and chips: It came with 8 long pieces! And amazingly, the batter wasn't greasy although I wish it was slightly crispier. I'd get this again. How does this place stay in business?? read more

We stopped in for breakfast at Mountain Oaks Café yesterday morning for my 30th birthday before heading up to Yosemite - the entire staff was so kind and welcoming to us! We ordered coffee and a mimosa (because birthday brunch is a must), along with the steak and eggs, chicken fried steak, and the cinnamon roll French toast to share. Everything was delicious--the steak was perfectly grilled (medium rare), the chicken fried steak had a crispy, flavorful batter, and the gravy was rich and comforting. Even the sourdough and wheat toast came pre-buttered, which I love! My favorite? The cinnamon roll French toast. It tasted like fall--warm, soft, sweet, and paired perfectly with real maple syrup. Wow we discovered this gem of a restaurant as we were traveling home from Yosemite. It looked packed from the outside. We checked on the wait time and were told about 20 minutes. We were sat at our table within 10 minutes. I had the Mexicali breakfast. It is Grilled Carna Asada, hadhbrowns with chorizo, beans and eggs with flour tortillas. It was the BOMB. TLDR: Baby back Ribs, Half-rack Not sure, if it's because we were hungry, after a long drive from home. BUT, the onion rings were crispy, with a mix of big and small circles. It wasn't too bready either. It was a great onion ring. It normally comes with ranch, which i'm not fond of, but they graciously gave me some BBQ sauce as well. I liked that more... it's a generic BBQ sauce, mostly sweet and a tiny bit tangy, but still good. I am so glad I ordered "only" a half-rack, because it was still HUGE! It came in 2 sets of 4, and I only was able to finish 1 set. I shudder to think what a whole-rack would look like! Just as the menu advertised, it EASILY came off the bone. I was able to use a fork to gently pry the meat off. It wasn't completely slathered in BBQ sauce, which I appreciate. I still prefer to dunk the meat in sauce, but I was able to taste the smoky meat. It was great! My wife ordered the blackened chicken pasta. I always worry, since blackened can EASILY transition to BURNT. But in this case, it had the smoky flavor that we want, without being charred. THe pasta was a bit too creamy for my wife, so she wasnt able to finish even half of it. Oh, I also appreciate that both dishes came with garlic bread. The bread is sooo good! Crispy crust, good garlic flavor, excellent bread. The waitress was super friendly as well.
