We were starving while exploring Mariposa so we popped into the Happy Burger diner, after a local recommended it. The wait time can get lengthy so keep this in mind before ordering! We started with the mozzarella sticks which were good and came with salsa. For mains we had two carne asada burritos, a reuben sandwich, the garlic bread burger, and a salad. All of the food was just okay. If you get the burrito, dont ask for salsa in it because it will turn the burrito cold. The curly fries and crinkle fries that comes with the meal are very good. I will say, they are generous with the condiments. I asked for a side of bleu cheese and they give a good sized portion. The best part of this place is the beer! they gave ice frozen ice mug and the beer portion was huge! Haha. A nice place to visit if you're starving, but dont expect the absolute best quality. This place is incredible! Just an unassuming diner but we had the best burger we have had in years, there at this place where we expected not much! The fries are also astounding as they fry in beef tallow- delish! I had a side salad which I was able to make myself at the well stocked and very fresh salad bar. Reasonable prices and lots of food for the price. Service was excellent as well! What a gem to find in Mariposa on the way to Yosemite! Love the cute little outdoor patio dining area. Friend called asked where I was, I told her I was at Happy Burger. She said the wait is insane there. I responded we were given the option with wait time before we ordered. Order: Corn dog and tater tot's extra crispy. Sourdough bacon burger with fries extra crispy, a soda, a water and ranch. Crispy tater tots: YESSSSSSSSSS greatly appreciated! Corn dog: was super crispy also. I can't stand a mushy corn dog. Hamburger: had great Smokey flavor, sourdough was toasted well with butter, the patty was a decent size. Customer service: it was a little chaotic, they were positively slammed and things happen. A ticket was lost or something and they were trying to figure it out. It was all figured out. Time of our order was 37 minutes. I've never timed before, but was curious when friend said they waited forever. Just out of curiosity! We needed the break from the car and were in need of food. Overall this is a great spot to eat and we would come again! We were on the way up to Yosemite and the spot we were gonna try was closed since it was Monday. Happy Birger Diner has an outdoor patio with umbrellas out front (sorry forgot to take a photo) that we enjoyed with our two dogs. You go inside to order (cash preferred, but credit cards accepted) and they will bring the food out to you. My mom and o shared a BLT and garlic fries...the BLT was delicious and they loaded it with bacon! The fries were way over salted, so we didn't eat much of those. Overall it's a really chill place. From offering a10% discount to seniors 55+ and veterans, to every dish being cooked from scratch--they advise you that your food will take between 20-30 minutes to be served--but it is so worth the wait!! They use excellent quality ingredients--I had a Denver omelet and it had real fresh cut cubes of ham and green and red peppers, onions and two cheese. Absolutely delicious! I ended up ordering the ortega burger on a wheat bun, ditching the jalapeno sauce (I'm a wuss), and adding pickles and mayo to the sandwich. (sorry-can't get a burger without pickles). I also ordered the shoestring fries, and at the last minute, added the fried green beans--all to go. It took a short minute to get my food, because it is all made fresh to order. If you are in a rush--you can call ahead and have your order ready to go. I didn't mind the wait. Everything was packaged in a way that was easy for me to eat in my car on the way home. The fries were crispy and very salty. I love salty french fries--so they were perfect. If you watch your salt, you definitely want to say something when you order to reduce how much they add to your order. The fried green beans were delicious--with a super crispy batter that tasted like onions--maybe they use the same batter for their onion rings? They were a bit greasy, but the paper bag helped absorb the excess. As for the burger, it was thick, juicy, flavorful, and maybe the best burger I've had all year. The extensive menu gave our entire family options they were excited about and the portions were very hearty. The staff was nice and quickly came over and changed the TV station to a sports station when we asked- just like their sign said they would. They have a small enclosed room which they lend out to various community groups which we loved- what a great way to support the town and get people together! Since they make the food to order, it can be slower to get your food if you come during peak rush hour. Our lunch order took about 30 minutes to get to the table. Driving to Bass lake and this place was 1/4mile from our turn off. Not a lot of parking and on a corner where there is a pretty good flow of traffic. They have a 2 outside patios. One in the front with umbrellas, and one in the back. The back has a couple games for the kids to play. As well as inside seating. The Bathrooms were super clean. They have menus at all the tables. I have been here a couple of times and you literally get what you order. Their salad bar looks really fresh all the time. The customer service could be a lot better. I don't think the staff really understand that there are people coming from all over to visit and their impression does last.. A lot of the times if the food wasn't really that good but the service was excellent, it would maybe be a place I will try again. Themed like a 1950's diner, with a great friendly staff, and amazing food, this place is a gem and a must-stop meal on your way to or from Yosemite! Plenty of parking, plenty of seating (both indoors and outdoors), tables that can accommodate your entire camping caravan, and food that obliterates your hunger after being on the road. Happy Burger Diner is aptly named, I defy you to come eat here and not leave happy! The menu goes beyond your standard roadside diner or burger stand, with good Mexican food in addition to an amazing selection of burgers. They have several different types of fries as well, this place is great if you have finicky kids travelling with you, as everyone can get what they want, how they want it. They take cards, but cash is preferred, so if you are planning your trip ahead of time and you want to take this preference into consideration, bring some cash to avoid the ATM charges (they do have an ATM in the lobby)... though as mentioned this is just a preference, they will take a card. We had the Happy Burger, the 49er Burger, and a tostada salad, and we tried both the regular fries and the spicy fries, both of which were excellent! The food was made fresh to order, hot, and very tasty! They also have excellent iced tea, I mean it was so good it is worth mentioning it separately... it was some of the best iced tea I've ever had! They have fountain drinks as well. This place is well worth the stop if you are driving anywhere near Mariposa, and in fact if you are staying in El Portal and don't want to drive into the park to eat, it is worth the drive to Mariposa to eat here! read more

I'm going to get straight to the point. I ordered the "supreme beef burrito". The description only being how it comes with topped chili, guac, and sour cream; with lettuce circled around the plate. And the options to have or remove: olives, jalapeños, cilantro. The burrito comes and the first thing that I notice is how the chili and beans were scattered all over the plate, I thought nothing of it atm because it was actually listed on the description. Then I cut the burrito in half and realize what I was looking at wasn't even a beef burrito, it was genuinely cheese and veggies with a side of cut up burger meat. Ps: never order Mexican food at a place with burger in their names, atleast not here. The burrito had more onions than one could ever ask for, and 3 types of peppers. I didn't even have the chance to take a picture of that abomination, because the whole burrito just ruined my appetite and mood. All I wanted in the moment was to leave.
