Do not order fish and chips unless you prefer flavorless.

3 strikes, I'm out. I wasn't expecting much based on my previous 2 dining experiences in Mariposa, but it was less than that. Asked the bartender if he could make a Michelada he said yes, he makes his own Bloody Mary mix, I said yes, must be a terrible Bloody Mary the drink was awful. Fish and chips could not be less flavorful if they tried, if white was a flavor this would be it. Hubs liked his tri tip sandwich but I couldn't get over the bitter green bell pepper. Went in expecting vibes and decent pub food. Bartender had a problem remembering things a sit was before 5pm.

Well it took a minute to actually locate this hidden gem, as it is not directly on the street, but rather on the side & into a cellar of sorts; it's well worth the hunt! Very casual, easy going place. Lots of choices - started with a draft beer, lemonade & waters. The menu is diverse, made me wonder as to quality - prepare to be impressed. It takes a bit as everything is made to order, so have another beer & cool your jets. There was an order of the chicken special sandwich, chipotle, lettuce, tomato - very well executed , an order of chicken tacos & another order of quinoa tacos. Not a spec left to be had! Service was stellar. No complaints other than it's too far to just go grab a bite, but so worth the stop if you're in the area of Mariposa.

    Said 26 dollar whiskey!

$26 for a neat pour of Four Roses Small Batch at The Hideout Saloon is... bold. Not in a good way--more in a "how much can we get away with?" kind of way. This isn't a rare bottle. It's not hard to find. It's not something you expect to come with a luxury markup and zero warning. Charging that without any visible pricing isn't elevated--it's opportunistic. And before the inevitable defensive reply: this isn't about misunderstanding the menu or "not appreciating quality." It's about basic transparency and fair pricing. If you're confident in your prices, post them. Stand behind them. Own it. Right now, it just feels like a gotcha--and no amount of ambiance fixes that. If your business model relies on customers finding out the price after they've taken a sip, that's not a vibe... it's a strategy. I won't be back, but I will be reading the response--those seem to be part of the experience here too.

Dive bar/Hidden gem, legit hidden. This place rocks. Maybe it was the long flight across the country but the daily drink special combined with the locally sourced fun bar food hit the spot. They smoke their own meat so we got two smoked meat sandwiches steak and pork. The server was amazing.

Decent basement, dive bar type of place. One of the few places open late in Mariposa. They have a pool table and TV to watch a game. Spacing is a little tight inside. They have a decent selection of beers. The food is just ok though. Standard bar type food. Would probably be better to grab a bite somewhere else and stop by here for drinks. We got the nachos which were ok, but a good portion. I got the shrimp tacos special, could have used some salsa. My friend got the chicken drumsticks, they had some decent seasoning but could have used some extra time in the fryer. Service was ok. Order at the front. They don't give an itemized bill by the way. Maybe you have to request one? Street parking or a small lot across the street.

2/04/25 Getting lunch for tomorrow! I called and the worker Ron answered. Very kind ordered the Barbie chicken. He said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I went in to get it. Hideout Saloon It is exactly that! Lol. Hidden. You take the stairs down into it. Workers are Great! Clearly they know. One got my attention after I was trying to locate it. Going inside, it's dark. Pool table and large bar. Greeted by kind worker who joked about it being hidden. Perfect name! Order was ready! Paid for it and he wished a good day! Appreciated! 2/5/25 Lunchtime! Sandwich split. It came with coleslaw too! My half was DELICIOUS! Chicken cooked perfectly with tasty BBQ sauce. Great coleslaw too! Mother said her half was Really Great! Great service & Great lunch! Highly recommended!

They have limited hours so make sure you plan for it, and they also host events throughout the week which means live music isn't always available. The ordering process is straightforward - you place your order at the front inside and then pick it up with a buzzer outside, which works perfectly for enjoying the outdoor setting. 5/5 Tomato Soup with Half Grilled Cheese was so hearty and exactly what you need after a long drive or before heading into the mountains. The soup was the best I have had in a while, with rich tomato flavor that was perfectly seasoned and had just the right consistency. The grilled cheese was nothing too special on its own, but it paired so well with the soup, especially to warm you up in the cold. The combination is classic comfort food executed beautifully, and you really can't go wrong with this order. The Grove House is absolutely worth planning your Yosemite trip around! It's the perfect stop to fuel up before heading into the park or to unwind after a day of hiking. The combination of good food, welcoming atmosphere, and that small-town charm makes it a must-visit when you're in Mariposa. I would definitely recommend trying this place out - it seems like one of the best restaurants in the area on the way to Yosemite. I'm already looking forward to my next visit and hoping to catch one of their live music nights!

The experience got off to a rough start when we waited five minutes before anyone acknowledged us or told us where to sit. Once seated, we waited an hour for our food. During that time, we learned that multiple menu items were unavailable. Given the long wait, we expected the food to be worth it, but when it finally arrived, much of it was poor quality and not edible. The most upsetting part of the evening was that our children were already tired and hungry from the long wait, and the overall atmosphere became increasingly uncomfortable. Nearby diners began making negative comments about our children, which left everyone feeling upset and unwelcome. After waiting so long and having such a poor experience, we were surprised that we were still charged for food that was largely left uneaten. I understand that restaurants can have difficult nights, staffing shortages, or unexpected issues. It was clear that the staff were going through a hard time. However, between the lack of service, long wait, unavailable menu items, disappointing food, and uncomfortable atmosphere, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences our family has had in a long time. After leaving, we ate at another restaurant in town and mentioned our experience to a local resident who said she had lived in Mariposa for more than 30 years and had repeatedly had negative experiences at Miners'. Hearing that made us feel like our experience may not have been an isolated incident. I hope management takes steps to improve both the customer experience and food quality going forward.

One thing that puzzled us a tiny bit was the "specials" appeared to be identical to menu options, but no harm, no foul. The service was very friendly, knowledgable and very well executed. We had Chicken Alfredo with Feta, and the Rib Eye Steak. Both were sensational (the chicken benefitted from a squeeze of lemon). The portions were large, and the preparation was perfect. The steak was exactly as ordered, and was the best steak we've had in some time. The chicken was cooked well and the pasta was perfect. The vegetables were great, seasoned and steamed, retaining a bit of crunch. Desert was an event! We had the cheesecake, which was very good, and the chocolate mocha ice cream pie. Oh, my goodness! That is exactly what happened during my recent dinner at Elderberry House. I visited with a group of four, and between us, we had two gluten-free diners and one vegetarian. After a quick heads-up the day before, the restaurant handled our needs with total ease. We went for the five-course tasting menu, and it was incredible from start to finish. We kicked things off with one of the best oysters I have ever had, followed by a beautiful tuna presentation. The kitchen even looked out for our gluten-free friends with a special version of their herbal-butter focaccia that was actually delicious. By the time the main courses arrived, I honestly could not decide if I liked my beef or my friend's snap pea risotto better; every single bite was pure perfection. The cocktails were another high point. My first drink was great, but after chatting with our server, Jordan, I decided to try the Last Word. It featured that hard-to-find green chartreuse, and I am a little annoyed to report that I have a new favorite cocktail that requires such a rare ingredient. The service is what really made the night so special. Jordan was so charismatic and helpful, making sure we were perfectly taken care of all evening. He was so good that I almost worried a second visit would not be the same without him, though the rest of the staff quickly put that fear to rest. Abby was so friendly and responsible for a truly unique but perfect-for-the-vibe playlist, and Chris the mixologist even stopped by to geek out about gin and cocktails with us. From the genuine care for our food sensitivities to the clever touch of the iPad check-in hidden in an elegant binder, it was a night for the books. I cannot recommend this place enough and look forward to bringing my family next!

Polite and attentive, he checked on us often and kept everything running smoothly even with a full docket and several family parties in his section. Juggling that many tables while making each one feel looked after is no small feat, and he handled it with real composure. We're a captive audience staying at an expensive hotel, I get that things will cost more. For breakfast though, coffee is $12 for a "French press for 2". 2 mugs are provided and you'd be quite lucky to get a mug and a half of coffee out of it. Also the coffee is not great but that's a different issue. $12 for 2 people to feel like they didn't get much coffee is a bummer. Also we got the lox bagel one morning. It was an open face lox sandwich ON HALF A BAGEL. I asked the server, surely a mistake, where is the other half bagel? Menu suggests "a bagel", which would suggest an item totaling a single bagel. The server fought the good fight with their GM and got us another half a bagel. Such a bizarre thing. I get that food costs are high and all, but in that environment you can charge a little more and ensure customers don't feel like they're being squeezed. It's ok to be expensive and generous (at a luxury resort). It's not ok to be pretty expensive and stingy. My tip, grab a coffee at the shop next to the lobby, and a bagel there too while you're at it.
