We spent a day in Yosemite and stayed in Mariposa, and we wanted to grab something for dinner. We saw that 1850 was nearby and had decent reviews, so we wanted to try for ourselves. We parked right at the front with the gravel and got our names put down for two people. The hostess was very nice and gave us a buzzer for when our table would be ready. It took no more than 5 minutes before it buzzed and we got in. The restaurant itself is very cozy and decorated well. We sat at a table that used hanging doors as dividers, which we thought was a neat idea. The lighting was nice, not too bright but also not super dim. Our server told us about some specials and also recommended a few different meals. We took up her offer on fries and went with that. Even though it technically was a shareable, it was a huge serving! The fries were perfectly crunchy with a soft interior. The steak was also really juicy and tender, not too chewy at all. The sauces and cheese mixed in with the fries were also the perfect balance of salty, crunchy goodness. The salmon was deliciously soft and moist. They paired very nicely with the creamy mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. We worked together to just barely finished the salmon and take most of the steak and fries home for leftovers. If you are in the area, I definitely recommend this spot! The quality and amount of food makes the price worth it. If we're ever visiting the area again, we'll definitely stop by 1850!
Great roadside stop on the way into Yosemite wth a great sandwich menu. The whitewashed brick walls make you feel like you're back a 100 years or so, and besides the TV and air conditioning, you might feel like you've stopped in after a long day panning for gold. In terms of taste, the garlic fries delivered gold-rush flavor with a perfectly crispy coating and very freshly pressed garlic. Many of the sandwiches come on sourdough, and after having fresh from Boudin in San Francisco, this bread really compares well. My wife ordered the wings, and they are meaty! We sat at the bar to watch England vs Argentina in the World Cup, and our server was helpful and engaging. Overall, I recommend this place for great food and service.
Came here for dinner while staying in Mariposa for a wedding. It was soooo good. We got a beer flight, onion rings, bacon bbq burger, and buffalo wings. The wings were perfectly saucy, crispy, and meaty just how we like them. The burger's bun was so soft and the bacon was thick. Garlic fries and onion rings were crispy and perfectly cooked. The ranch seemed house made. Overall great choice, and all the girls working were friendly and there was great service overall.
Service was quick and friendly. The portion sizes are large so make sure you're hungry! But the food was really great, especially after spending a day hiking in Yosemite! Highly recommend stopping in for a bite! I got the Mac and cheese, it was so cheesy and gooey
1850 Brewing Company in Mariposa was excellent. The food was outstanding, the cider was surprisingly good, and the service was stellar. A special thank you to Sheila, who was not even our server but kept checking on us, answering questions, and making us feel welcome. I honestly thought she might be an owner because she cared that much. The over all atmosphere was welcoming and like everyone knew you or was willing to get to know you. I had the Steak House Burger and could only eat half because it was huge. My girlfriend had the 1850 Fries loaded with steak, cheese, parmesan, garlic, and more, and they were amazing. You simply must eat here. I also included a photo with Sheila and my friend Kevin who also had joined us for the meal.
Amazing spot and always a great time! We love that they're dog friendly and we enjoy the beautiful days on their patio. Drinks and food are amazing, staff is always very friendly! The pups enjoyed the dog bowl with a puppy patty (plain burger patties)! Went with the Apple cider Paloma and Diablo margarita today, whooooh, some heat on that last one! Great beers too! Very good and a great place to stop!
Y'all, this place is bomb! I wasn't really sure what to expect because I didn't check it out beforehand at all; my partner told me they'd have good beer and good food, so I went in blind! It's cute inside, a small bar area and a bigger dining space. Shabby-Chic Cowboy vibes. It was seat yourself, but they run your food and drinks. (Dinner is full service though.) I loved my beer--the White Wolf--which wasn't overbearing with the fruit at all! It was perfectly balanced and delightfully refreshing on this hot summer day! But it was the 1850 fries that stole the show!! That smoky pub cheese?! I want a 5 gallon bucket's worth to take home with me next time. The fries are SO garlicky, the steak bites perfectly seasoned! You gotta get an order. Trust me.
First time eating at 1850 even after driving through Mariposa each year for the past 7 years to go to Yosemite. Honestly just never noticed it from the road and the next door burger place gets all the advertising and is quite apparent. We came on a Sunday afternoon after leaving Yosemite and found a comfy corner booth with AC right above us. Seat yourself and then go order at the front. We ordered and drinks came quickly and our food was out fairly soon after. We ordered way too much food as the "small plates" are basically entree size. The salmon cakes surprised me and were my favorite. I heard from those dining with me that the burger was delicious, the steak was decent and the small plates were tasty. Grabbed a couple mix packs of beers on the way out as well! Stop by if you're driving through Mariposa!
First and foremost Mariposa does a great job at not only being my favorite little mountain town, but it also has incredible food. 1850 is no exception. From the delicious blackberry muddled Mocktail mule to the delicious hazy my guy got and just wait, the food. The restaurant itself is not small, but not big. I say that in a good way. You can hear the multitude of conversations taking place between what appeared to be some locals, but a lot of tourists. Being a town that's directly en route to your trip to Yosemite, I HIGHLY suggest this be one of your foodie spots. The staff is insanely friendly. Our waitress was nice and did a great job not making me feel 'extra' when I asked for the burger to be cut, she went above and beyond and had both our dinners split into 2. She understood our assignment ( order different things so they can be split and tasted by both my boyfriend and myself.) So, the food. When I say, those Ahi Tuna Nachos were very flavorful, I mean it. If wasabi isn't your thing, don't get it. If it is, yum yum. We ordered the Hot Shot burger with the upgraded garlic fries. The only 'negative' I can say about the entire meal is the burger did have a lot going on (in the best way) and maybe that's why it stood out more, but the patty, noticeably great quality, lacked salt. I'm not an add salt to everything kind of girl but I believe this would have taken it over the top if it had salt and pepper more blended into the patty. Tip: if you like a kick, order this. If you can't handle spice, opt-out. And if you love garlic, spend the extra change and upgrade those fries to the garlic. You won't regret it. Lastly, the surf and turf. The New York was cooked beautifully, as was the shrimp. Delicious. But what stole the show? The rosemary cream sauce that topped the steak. One of the best sauces I've ever had. It was such a great asset to the steak. Also, the mashed potatoes were full of flavor, creamy, and with some of that rosemary sauce, oh lord. Thank you 1850 for giving us an amazing anniversary weekend getaway meal!
1850 Restaurant and Brewery in Mariposa, Ca is an amazing restaurant... or is it an amazing micro brewery? Whatever... the food is amazing, and the beer is a favorite among local beer lovers in Mariposa, Merced and Tuolumne Counties, and in everywhere in the southern gold country in the Sierra Nevada foothills. As you enter the restaurant, you're meeted and greeted by a friendly hostess. 1850 Restaurant and Brewery operates on what I call the "taqueria format." Alright... I'll explain... You walk up to the counter and you're greeted by a friendly staff member, You check out the menu from the overhead menu - in this case the printed menu - you order your food, you pay for it, in return you receive a "number." and You seat yourself at the open table of your choice. When your order is ready, it will be brought to you by a friendly server. On this Friday morning shortly after opening, the restaurant wasn't busy, so I didn't receive a "number," as my friendly server, Shelby, remembered me. From the "Lunch" section of the menu, I went with "Fish and Chips," which is one of my favorite meals, any time of day, any day of the week. Three generous fillets of cod fish were seasoned, battered, and perfectly deep fried, and placed on coleslaw. Oh my... such a perfect mixture of tender, white fish, and delicious batter! The fish was seated on a mixture of coleslaw and cabbage, which made for a beautiful presentation, and delightful dining. The slice on lemon made today's lunch even more delicious! The "chips" were basically fries, medium size, seasoned and deep fried to a perfect, crispy golden brown on the outside, and tender and juicy inside. Oh my! Simply delicious, and a great side to the fish. The tartar sauce that was included as a condiment wasn't your mom's every day garden variety from a bottle, as it was seasoned with dill, along with a touch of mustard, and was thick, creamy and simply delicious! Talk about a great dip for the fish! Simply delicious. Oh yes! ... I'd enjoy this amazing dip for everything, any day of the week! 1850 Restaurant and Brewery serves delicious fish and chips in beautiful Mariposa, located near the southern end of CA Highway 49, and the gold country. This is Five Star Dining any way you look at it!
We stopped here on the way back from Yosemite, and stopped by the place as they offered outdoor seating for our dog. I ordered the grilled chicken and my wife got the steak salad. The service was fast, and the food was very flavorful. I was definitely surprised by this restaurant in this small town. For dessert we had 'death by chocolate'. The cake was decently moist, but could use a scoop of ice cream on the side Overall would definitely recommend this place if you are driving through Mariposa on your way to Yosemite

I loved this place. Coming here made dinner feel like part of the trip instead of just "grabbing food." It's a smaller spot, so expect a wait, but honestly the bar makes it easy to relax while you wait for a table. Everyone was very attentive and polite. When I stayed in Mariposa, I tried their special. A burger with shrimp and sweet potato fries. Definitely different, but it worked surprisingly well and tasted amazing. Also, you HAVE to try the local brews, so get the flight. This place honestly feels like Mariposa's little slice of fancy without trying too hard. I had dessert too, and I can't even remember what it was called... I just remember it was gooooooood. read more
We frequent 1850 for lunch and have always enjoyed our visits, so this experience was disappointing. This was our first time stopping by after 6 p.m. because we wanted to relax with a couple of beers and dessert. When we asked for a table, we were told there was a wait. That's completely understandable, so I asked how long the wait would be. Instead of giving us an estimate, we were immediately encouraged to just get our desserts to go. It left us feeling like our business wasn't welcome because we weren't ordering a full dinner. We're not tourists passing through--we're locals who support this restaurant year-round, including during the slower times. Every customer should feel welcome, whether they're ordering a full meal or just stopping in for dessert and drinks. Unfortunately, after this experience, we'll be taking our business elsewhere. Mariposa has plenty of great places that make every guest feel appreciated. read more

I was here with a work group for dinner this week. We took up the outside patio. I was concerned about dining outside at night on a patio in November, but the weather was perfect, and the outdoor heaters kept the space very comfortable. Lighting was fairly dim, but added to the atmosphere. Parking was limited, but I found a spot without much trouble. I ordered the salmon with brown rice and zucchini. The salmon was cooked perfectly and was wonderfully seasoned. There was a green tzatziki sauce on the salmon that had a very complex flavor--a mix of pesto, lemon, and something else. I kept thinking I tasted pine or juniper, but suspect it was just a combination of flavors. While it wasn't a bad flavor, the confusing or overly complex flavor of it did detract from the enjoyability of the perfectly cooked salmon. The zucchini was served in large wedges. They were al dente and also perfectly seasoned. The brown rice was a bit dry--but typical for most brown rice dishes, and was mildly seasoned. Portions were good. Because we were with a large group and our table was served last, we did have to wait a while for everything. I'm not holding this against the restaurant--it is hard to coordinate multiple tables at once, and they did check in with us many times to refill drinks and make sure we didn't feel abandoned. Service was good overall. At this point in time, appetizers cost between $10 and $20, and meals range from low $20's to mid/high $40's. It is a bit more than I usually spend on a meal, but everyone I spoke to, whether they ordered a burger and fries, a steak salad, the salmon or the tri tip, all enjoyed their meals. If you're looking for a hearty meal that is more than fast food, and you're looking for something with bold flavors, check this place out! read more

1850 in Mariposa nails the sweet spot between refined and relaxed -- it's elevated dining with zero pretense. Think high-quality food, great service, and a vibe that says, "Yeah, we know what we're doing, but also... grab a beer and chill." The burgers? Easily the best in town. They're juicy, bold, and built like they bench press lesser patties. Every bite feels like a reward for putting up with life. And then there's the Finney Fries -- garlicky, smothered in pub cheese, topped with steak, and (this is my personal genius) served on a bed of greens to trick my brain into thinking it's basically a salad. It's not. But I feel better, and that's what counts. The rotating specials are always on point -- creative without getting weird, and consistently worth the gamble. 1850 is where you go when you want quality without the fluff. Food that slaps, service that smiles, and fries that gaslight your health goals. 10/10 would dress up my loaded carbs in lettuce again. read more

We LOVED 1850 Restaurant!!! We were here for Memorial Day weekend and stopped in for dinner both nights. Not only was the service amazing- but the food was incredible as well! Even though it was definitely a busy weekend, they had an efficient system where they'd give you a buzzer and you could hangout at the bar or in your car while waiting for an open table. The outdoor seating was great both nights! The second night we were there, we had just finished exploring Yosemite NP and my fiance had proposed to me there!!! The waitresses were so sweet & excited for us and even gave us complimentary champagne. It was such a good day and 1850 restaurant made it such a special night! We will absolutely be stopping back in the next time we're in the area! read more

Fantastic food! The burger was moist, delicious and cooked as ordered! Salad was enormous and the chicken was so moist. Only complaint would be that the waitress was non attentive and not very friendly. She was OK, but was hoping for someone happy...but all in all, I give it 5 stars! read more

1850 is something you can enjoy and worth a stop when you visit Mariposa. They have a decent menu and a good range of beers. The vibe of the restaurant/brewery is very cabin like. They have a lot of seating indoor and outdoor. They have a small bar area outside the patio with plenty of seating. They do not come out and serve you menus. You need to get a menu from the inside and order inside when you're ready. Also, they have a self server water station near the restrooms. The service was great outside. Host Paige was really great about getting what we needed and asked for. She was very nice and checked in on us. The initial hostes in the front desk must have been having an off day. She was a little salty towards my partner when she came in to order, and then when my partner asked for water, she was upset and told her it's self-serve. We did not let it affect our experience and enjoyed our food. The food was pretty good. I got the shroom burger, and it was pretty tasty. The meat could have had more seasoning, but the flavor from the sauce and mushrooms was on point. Also... it was perfectly cooked med rare. The wings were a little dry , and the flavor of the sauce was good, but I would add more sauce to balance the dryness of the chicken. That usually happens when you fry too long. I also had their berry stout.... it was delicious!!!! Ill definitely be back to get a crowler of it. My girlfriend for the turkey Sammie, and it was pretty dang good along with the sweet potato fries. The garlic on one of our friends' fries had a bit of a powder texture to it... but they loved their burger, and the last thing we got was I believe the salmon patties ... those were so good!!! The sauce had some great flavors. Overall we will be back, I may try the Buffalo sauce next time on the wings, and I'll definitely be back for more of that stout. read more
Great selection of their own brews. Something for everyone's taste. We stopped as we got into town, basically for a beer but the menu looked really good so we ordered the ahi tacos. AMAZING. Been back twice this week to try more of the beers. Going to stop for dinner before we leave. Friendly fast service and if you sit outdoors you get the amazing Mountain View. read more

We had their special which was the fettuccine with NY strip and had the fried chicken. The chicken was amazing 5 stars. Their beer selection was also amazing. We had 2 flights to try their beers. We loved it so much we came back the next day. read more

Beyond Disappointed: Raw Salmon and a Baffling "Solution" I had high hopes for but my experience was a complete letdown, bordering on alarming. My salad with salmon was served completely raw - translucent and cold. When I pointed this out, I expected a fresh, properly cooked replacement. Instead, the server immediately said that is how salmon is cooked and how she ate it. I then spoke to the head of house showing her a picture of my plate. Server came back just to informed me they would just be putting the same piece of raw fish back into the oven as an option. This demonstrates a shocking lack of understanding of food safety and customer service. It's not just about an undercooked meal; it's about a restaurant that thinks it's acceptable to re-cook and re-serve a dish that was already a health risk. I lost my appetite and will not be returning. read more

Another place where to order at counter . It was kind of confusing at first be as we sat and no one ever came to The table we didn't see any sign that said order up front but anyways after we figured it out we had burger both very good read more
