We ate a lot of meals here as it's the only truly kid-friendly option in Tenaya Lodge that doesn't require a significant amount of walking. It's bar and grill fare that can be eaten there, taken to go, or marked up a few dollars as room service. Avoid the breakfast buffet at all costs. A proper entree costs a little less, and the quality is so much better. The buffet eggs are so dry, and they are the one thing we had here that was truly awful. Opt for a bowl of Steel-Cut Oatmeal if you want something simple. The Lox & Bagel is a bigger plate with plenty of smoked salmon. Order an extra bagel and the salmon will serve two. For lunch and dinner they make pretty good burgers, like the Jackalope Burger, which has my favorite toppings and the Steakhouse Burger which is meat-on-meat, topped with short rib and swiss. Kids loved the Spiral Noodles and Cheese and the pizza. The Philly Cheesesteak could be a little less dry, but the Pulled Pork Nachos are quite delightful and enough for two. Plenty of toppings, ample protein. Jack's Buffalo Wings are best with basketball and beer. Casarecci Short Rib Pasta is a dinner entree and not one I would recommend. The ragu is rather thin. Avoid the Design-a-Cupcake at all costs. The cupcakes crumble when you pick them up so they are impossible to frost, and all you get is frosting and sprinkles so there's not much designing to be done. Several hits, a few misses, expected for a resort restaurant meant to serve all meals and any and all people. On the way home from a week camping in Yosemite and stopped here for what we hoped would be a delicious dinner. Sadly we came in between the lunch and dinner shift so despite and empty restaurant they wouldn't serve us in the nicer room. Our server was very kind! Ordered a kids burger, a kids pizza, the lettuce wraps, Caesar salad and BLT. Kids pizza came out wrong. Lettuce wraps were chunky pieces of chicken instead of the ground Asian version we imagined. Sauce was not good, no mint despite what the menu described. Sent back. The BLT was awful. On very dry over toasted ciabatta bread with avocado that went bad (my son looooves BLTs and avocado and truly this was not a good version). Caesar salad was great but very small portions for $17!!! Loved the homemade dressing however the Parmesan chip was stale and soft instead of crispy. The kids burger my daughter ordered was edible, but again, absolutely not worth the price. We booked dinner reservations at embers but ended up eating at other two places on the property. This place runs slower but with pagers we were able to while the time away outdoors. Our host and server for the night was polite. The portion on the mains is just right. We ordered blackened chicken tacos and miso and mushroom risotto. Both 5/5. The house salsa has a nice kick to it. We ordered noodles with cheese from kids menu. That was all gobbled up by our hungry toddler. It came with sides of steamed veggies. I enjoyed the only soup ( they have it for $11) it was fresh and steaming hot. Perfect for chilly evening. definitely worth trying. They have lot of options for all. Very cool bar here at the Tenaya Lodge! Fantastic ambience with an enclosed glass fireplace and an open pit right outside the patio doors... plenty of seating too. Our server Erik was awesome! Fun personality and he gave great recommendations! Also very attentive throughout our meal! The drinks were killer! Best $18 Bloody Mary! The others in our party enjoyed their wine selections too. As far as the menu... not a whole lot of appetizer options before 5pm in fact we were unable to order the artichoke dip because it was not yet 5 which to me is so silly because how hard can it be to prepare an artichoke dip dish at 4 PM versus 5 PM? The buffalo wings were really good. Different but good. It came with 7 wings and some carrots and celery. We did the sauces on the side and what a surprise that the chicken was fried chicken!? Definitely not your average wings... too much on the fried stuff for me. The prices are way overpriced for what they serve. From the moment we walked in, the restaurant had a cozy, cabin-like atmosphere with wood paneling throughout and a fireplace in the center of the dining area. I started with the cauliflower ceviche, and it did not disappoint. It was tangy, flavorful, and served with large curly chips that added a great texture and made the dish even more enjoyable. For my entrée, I ordered the prime rib cooked medium rare, and it was prepared perfectly. The mashed potatoes that accompanied it were also well-made and nicely seasoned. I added a little cracked black pepper to my taste, but it was delicious even without it. Our server, Lori, was attentive and made sure all our needs were met. Jackalope's Bar and Grill is the large dining area inside the Tenaya Lodge resort close to the lobby with ample seating and a variety of things on the menu. It has a cozy lodge feel and I was at first really excited to try it. I was excited to eat here for a warm meal after a long day at Yosemite but I think I would have fared better with the food inside the national park. Everything was pretty expensive, food was just okay, and service was hit or miss. I forgot to take more pictures once the meals came out, but the chicken on the linguine Alfredo was rubbery and inedible. The Brussel sprout salad was very dry. It's the kind of place where all the food kind of looks good but doesn't really taste that good (that kind of vibe.) Maybe I'll stop here next time to Tesla charge and buy something from the gift shop but I think I'll pass on having a meal at this resort. (We also tried the seasonal barbecue that is outside in the lawn area and it was absolutely infested with wasps and bees and flies so that's two strike outs for the food at this resort for me.) I really wish I was writing a different review because I really wanted to like this place and the location is such a great option but I don't think I would honestly recommend it to any of my friends traveling to and from Yosemite. read more

He was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. He has a positive attitude and demonstrated good manners, while anticipating our needs. Victor is a definite 5 in our books. Note: I plan on writing a commendation letter to Jackalope's for his overall attitude and charm The Food: Tuna Nachos (tuna, cabbage, cucumber, avocado, sesame seeds, wonton chips, cilantro, poke sauce, sriracha aioli): This was my order. I skipped the cilantro. The raw tuna has a mild flavour and melt-in-your-mouth texture. The slight heat from the sriracha aioli marries well with the tuna, giving it a rich umami taste. Everything was on point, from the fresh tuna to the crispy wonton chips, and dressing. A definite 5 of 5. Prime Rib French Dip: This came with fries. The meat was under-seasoned. The dip was nice, but the fries were not. The fries were a beautiful golden brown, but were under-seasoned as well, plus they were not crunchy when you bite into them. They tasted starchy like they sat out far too long. As for the slaw... it was under-dressed and quite bitter. This dish was a 2.75 of 5. Warm English Sticky Toffee Pudding (moist date cake, caramel sauce, whipped cream, toffee bits): The rich, moist sponge cake has a deep yet and complex flavour. It's gooey and decadent and we couldn't stop eating it. The lovely warm cake is not cloyingly sweet and works well with the light cream. Loosen your belt or wear elastic pants when you order this. 5 of 5 We sat on the patio. It's a beautiful day and flowers are in bloom. Sitting on the patio means, we get to see the resident bird, Ralph. Ralph has a mate now. We were told the mate's name is Fred. We could not tell them apart but we're happy to see them. This is one of the restaurants on-site at the Tenaya Lodge. Stayed here a few nights to visit Yosemite. Service was slow in the beginning. Our server thought someone else was taking care of us which didn't really explain why we weren't even offered water for about 10 minutes. Also, aren't servers assigned sections? Either way, it sucked having to wait that long for water but server was apologetic and rest of the service was fast. The food itself was just ok. Nothing amazing but it wasn't bad either. I expected the pricing based on previous reviews and the fact that it's located at a resort. Although expected I wouldn't say the food was necessarily worth the price. We ordered poke nachos to start, kids teriyaki chicken meal, a burger, grilled chees and tomatoe soup and the short rib pasta. The teriyaki sauce had an unusual gravy-like consistency but chicken was well seasoned. The burger was fine, and came with onion rings which were good. Our go-to place on the way out of Yosemite at night. We are usually visiting between Christmas and New Year's. The hotel is rather busy, so the restaurant can be crowded at certain times. The menu has plenty of options for everyone in the family. The service is usually pretty good. If there is a long wait, you can pass the tire at the outdoor s'more pits. We recently stayed at the Tenaya Explorer cabins. The Jackalope restaurant is in the main building. We ate there twice for breakfast and three times for dinner. The service is excellent and the servers are nice and friendly. Our server told us they have recently changed the menu for the slower season. They have burgers and sandwiches and salads and pasta and fish and a beef choice of prime rib. We ordered the prime rib several times. There are no steaks on the menu. My husband had the prime rib dip which he says was delicious. My server accommodated me with adding vegetables to my meal to make my meal low carb. We also ate breakfast there and they have nice omelets. This is a good restaurant and I felt their prices were very reasonable. I can recommend this restaurant. read more

Not bad! We ate here twice during our stay at Tenaya, once for breakfast (we stayed in one of the cabins and they gave us breakfast vouchers) and once for dinner. Breakfast was pretty busy and our food took almost 45 minutes to come out, I think something must've gone wrong because tables seated after us got their food before us. Other than that, the food was pretty good and generous portions. It would've been pricey without the vouchers. Since we had enough vouchers for 2 days, we got breakfast to go the second time and that was ready in 20 minutes. Dinner was actually really nice! The ambiance is very cozy without being overly dark and we felt welcome with our toddler. Madison, our server was great. Food was good, came out quickly and was pretty delicious. I decided not to eat than to eat here. I made a reservation for 9pm , we arrived at 8:30pm since we saw many tables available and we were seated quickly, on the patio. The service is very slow and our server Claudia never asked to take our order, we had to essentially take initiative. Everytime we ordered she looked confused and we had to repeat ourselves like 10 times, when I ordered a beer she was confused and didn't know what beer I was talking about which was on the menu. An hour later and we had not received our food and it was freezing outside. There was nobody around and they were cleaning the floors to close up, we asked Claudia if we could move inside because we were very cold. She looked inside and said that there was a line out the door for reservations to sit inside and said that we could go upstairs to get a jacket and come back. Now, keep in mind it's 9:30pm and the restaurant closes at 10pm. There was no line of people and there were many tables available. When the food came everything was disgusting, I ordered the risotto and it was cold mush comparable to oatmeal or porridge. They served it with ice cold vegetables and there was no flavor to anything. I told Claudia and she was visibly annoyed , sighing and rolling her eyes. For paying $140 this place is gross, food is nasty. I even took pictures of the tables available inside that we were told were so busy for reservations, Claudia might be the worst server I've ever had. read more

So we were staying locally and we went to this place for breakfast. We were impressed so we also went for dinner. So my review is for both. Devon served us for breakfast. He was very friendly and attentive and checked on us periodically. I wasn't real hungry so I had their yogurt, fruit and granola. My husband had their specially omelette with everything. He said the hashbrowns were really good. We both had coffee, the coffee was five dollars, which was a little pricey. For dinner we had Callin and Brooke, who made sure we had water. I had a Cru pinot Noir, which was very good. I chose the Harris ranch filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. It comes with vegetables, not very many and potatoes, which were just so so. My husband had a Philly steak and he said it was really good and french fries and I ate quite a few of them. The place was a little noisy because they were playing music in the background and then people were talking loud. We have good memories of the lodge and the restaurants. However, our much anticipated dinner was suboptimal. First the restaurant is VERY smoky which makes me suspect poor kitchen ventilation. That would pose a problem to an asthmatic. The ambience is nice and casual. The waiter was very young but did not know the menu and could not really describe a dessert. My salmon was lukewarm and it was fine but the sauce on its top and the tomato sauce in which it was swimming made it too acidic. Besides the potatoes were ice cold. My sons ordered the chicken sandwich and they found the chicken very dry. My wife never got her soup and she had chosen the roast beef sandwich. She liked it but her "Cesar" side salad was basically a kale slaw with Parmesan shavings added along with croutons. For a restaurant that commands the prices, I found the food rather average as well as the service. We also waited very long to get our entrees and subsequently, no one refilled our waters. I'm summary, I was very disappointed this visit and my expectations were not met. I had an average overpriced dinner that a chain restaurant could have easily topped. And no, we did not ask for a manager since I don't want to get freebies. However, when the cookie dessert came ice cold, my wife did ask another server to get the manager. That manager fixed the dessert and wrote off one of the chicken sandwiches. Again we never asked for a discount or anything else. I just want you (Tenaya) to revisit whatever changed this wonderful place and fix it so that the next visit stimulates my palate into ecstasy. My wife usually anticipates that tacos will be a safe bet; and since I was not too hungry, I ordered the small chicken pot pie. Neither one arrived hot (and I don't blame the server), and neither one was all that flavorful. -- A few days later, we just happened to stop at a Taco Bell, and my wife mentioned that even their tacos were better than the one at Jackalope's - which is not a great endorsement. - Burgers probably would've been a better choice. It's a shame, because it's a cool looking place, and it's really the most convenient place, by far, to eat while you're at the Tanaya. Honestly, I'm embarrassed for this place. You'd think a nice lodge facility would serve halfway decent food, but we basically paid a premium for what I can only describe as "prison cafeteria chic." We tried to interrogate our server to dodge the bad dishes, but sadly, I think his culinary bar stops at frozen TV dinners. He swore the food was great. He was very wrong. The pacing of the meal was its own comedy sketch. We spent an hour and a half in a half-empty, fully staffed restaurant while our food trickled out in wildly chaotic installments. Here is the play-by-play of our culinary hostage situation: * The Kid's Burger: Arrived a full 20 minutes before the adult entrees. It featured perfectly uniform, machine-stamped grill marks and tasted like it had just been nuked in a microwave. Luckily, our 3-year-old was starving and didn't care. * The House Salad: Made its grand entrance 10 minutes later. A masterpiece of sad, bagged lettuce glued together by gelatinous Italian dressing, featuring three lonely cherry tomatoes and exactly four-and-a-half croutons rolling around a desolate plate. * The BLC Chicken Sandwich: Arrived lukewarm with equally tepid fries. The chicken had a bizarre Tabasco flavor that didn't fit the style at all. Half of it took a one-way trip to the trash. * The $60 Prime Rib: The main tragedy. I specifically asked if it was good, and the server didn't even flinch when he lied to my face. This dry slab of meat was accompanied by jail-style veggies and a plastic cup of "horseradish" that tasted suspiciously like ranch-mayo. The Yorkshire pudding was a culinary marvel--an entirely hollow cupcake of disappointment that honestly took skill to bake so poorly. The generic au jus was the only thing that moistened the meat enough to make it chewable. * The Desserts: Just when we thought we hit rock bottom, dessert arrived. The deconstructed cupcakes were a DIY disaster. The frosting acted like plastic; trying to spread it just tore the bone-dry paper-thin cake into dust. We also ordered two chocolate cakes that tasted like they were on their last legal day of service. They were glued to the plates with a chocolate drizzle that had the structural integrity of epoxy. Mine featured old, soggy peanuts soaked into the cake, contrasted by weird, random new peanuts scattered on the plate--a true study in texture and confusion. I'd give the food a zero, but the lodge setting is cool, the TVs kept us slightly entertained while we aged waiting for our meals, and the server was nice enough. The family and I had a great weekday dinner here. It was not empty but not too crowded or loud. The young gentleman who seated us was very sweet and you could tell he took pride in his job. Jenni, our server, was friendly, helpful giving recommendations, and checked on us the perfect amount. All the staff were pleasant and funny, including the guy who delivered our food. We ate at Jackalope's Bar and Grill in Tenaya Lodge for three different meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) during the 5 days we were there. Reason being that it had snowed one day and we were kind of limited with where we could go, and it was just nice being able to eat good food right in our hotel. Luckily, the food is amazing! The burgers are delicious, the service was great, and we thoroughly enjoyed every experience. We went the week of March 17th, and I'm sorry I can't remember the servers' names, but each of them were wonderful. One time, I think her name was Kathy - she was on her own because I think they were short-staffed due to the weather. Well, you would think that she would be all stressed out because she was the only one there, but she was as patient and efficient as could be. We were prepared to wait for service and our food, but surprisingly, she was super attentive and kept our drinks filled and once our order was in, our food came out quickly! It was all a pleasant surprise because we understood the situation and were find enjoying the ambiance and also trying to find the hidden jackalopes throughout the restaurant. I had brought Cokes with me to the hotel and good thing I did because turns out it's a Pepsi property. Well, I asked Kathy (I hope that's her name) if I could get a cup of ice and get my own Coke from my room. She said that was totally fine and brought out my cup of ice right away and didn't make me feel bad about it at all. Things we ate that we all loved: Caramelized Brussel sprouts, Jackalope burger, steakhouse burger, Harris Ranch ribeye, their silver dollar pancakes which were actually pretty big, classic breakfast, and breakfast burrito. It was my son's birthday and they actually let him pick a dessert and they comped it! He chose the rice Krispy treat that you paint and it was so cute - it came out on a paint pallet with natural fruit syrups and a bear and a little paintbrush. It kept him entertained and it was fun to eat! I tend to stay away from hotel restaurants because most of the time, they are overpriced and the food is mediocre, but we loved every meal experience at Jackalope's and will definitely dine there again in future stays at Tenaya. read more

We got snowed in and unexpectedly ended up having dinner here. The menu is a fair size with much to offer anyone still we had picky eaters in our group, the kitchen was very accommodating. The food was amazing! Someone ordered the tempura sandwich said it was perfect! I ordered a jackalope burger, very good.. Someone else ordered a bahn mi they mentioned it wasn't traditional but still delicious. Every plate empty and everyone happy. I wish I had remembered our waitress name she was excellent! I love the cozy cabin feel with a mix of elegant lighting. This would make an excellent spot for a romantic dinner for that special person in your life. read more

-Service was mediocre -Food not rung in on a slow day -awareness nonexistent Stopped to charge the car and grab lunch with my family, we ordered drinks, appetizers, and entrees (hungry after a day in Yosemite). It was a slow lunch day (3 tables in the restaurant). The car had 45 mins to a full charge which gave us plenty of time to eat, our car finished charging and we hadn't received any of our food (only drinks). By this time I walked over to close out our tab, pay for our drinks and cancel our order. The floor Manager informed me that they couldn't find our table, nor our ticket. Which leads to believe that our food wasn't rung in on a slow day. I asked the manager to charge us for the 2 beers, paid and left. If a restaurant/ server can't manage tables on a slow day, I don't want to be there during a busy day. read more
