The soup was the best I have had in a while, with rich tomato flavor that was perfectly seasoned and had just the right consistency. The grilled cheese was nothing too special on its own, but it paired so well with the soup, especially to warm you up in the cold. The combination is classic comfort food executed beautifully, and you really can't go wrong with this order. The Grove House is absolutely worth planning your Yosemite trip around! It's the perfect stop to fuel up before heading into the park or to unwind after a day of hiking. The combination of good food, welcoming atmosphere, and that small-town charm makes it a must-visit when you're in Mariposa. I would definitely recommend trying this place out - it seems like one of the best restaurants in the area on the way to Yosemite. The vegetables were great, seasoned and steamed, retaining a bit of crunch. Desert was an event! We had the cheesecake, which was very good, and the chocolate mocha ice cream pie. Oh, my goodness! That pie! It was at least 5" high, and covered a desert plate edge to edge, and it was a coffee and chocolate fantasy with a toffee crust! Out of this world! Simply epic. We waited a minute and he walked us all over to the beer station for the beer tasting (all brewed by Scott Chappelle-- I think his brother makes the wine that they serve there). We really enjoyed the four beers (the tastes)-- they had a light hoppy one, a "red ale," a nut brown one, and a porter. Everyone loved the nut brown one, and we bought a bottle to take home. Honestly, the beer was good but not so different from other beers we've had, but Brett was a lot of fun, and we lucked out with that couple-- they were really sweet. In terms of wine, we didn't have any, but it all looked like reds and a red dessert wine to me, so if you only drink white wine, this may not be the place for you. Highly recommend when Brett is there-- not sure what the other sommeliers / beer wizards are like. :D I think wine tastings are around $6, and beer tastings are $5 for about 4 3-ounce glasses, and I don't think it's waived even if you buy beer/wine.
