Black Bear doesn't disappoint. My family and I come here quite often and the servers are always kind and welcoming. They are in fact ALL great. The food here is a quality that doesn't make you feel bad when you leave. We tend to stay on track with our diets and they always accommodate with our questions and substitutes. We greatly appreciate it whole heartedly. Today we had the pleasure of having Oscar as our server and he was great. It was a Friday evening and a little busier than usual which made us wait a little longer. Instead of having us wait and wonder, Oscar came and explained the situation of being busy and that there were a couple more orders ahead of us. That small communication was all we needed to tell us about his work ethics. His continued customer service throughout the evening was amazing. First time trying Big Bear Diner. Even though I've seen it around, it never was a good time to try this place but today, we had a chance to go there for breakfast. Ambiance - 4 stars. Exterior and interior reminds me of Disneylands Bayou country with the Bear theme. Service - 4 stars. We got seated fairly quickly but did have to wait awhile before our waitress Maria came by. Even though the place wasn't packed, I'm sure she had a lot of tables. Food- 3 stars. I got the country fried steak. It had 2 eggs and hash brown and toast. There was only one country fried steak given whereas I've been to other breakfast places and they give 2. Toast was over toasted. My wife ordered the corned beef and she didn't like it. In fact, she had to use a napkin to remove it From her mouth. Not sure why she got that since she's never ordered corned beef in a restaurant so for her order- 2 stars. I did try it and definitely something I wouldn't have eaten or ordered myself. Overall, good experience. Menu can be overwhelming with so many choices. Would I come back? Came during a weekday morning so it was nice and quite. I was able to enjoy my slow morning with delicious eggs Benedict and cinnamon roll pancakes. The vegetables present in the eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked and I love that sweet potato fries are an option. The cinnamon roll pancakes are a sweet tooth's dream! Typical diner food. I was unimpressed with my recent Black Bear Diner visit. This chain location is very hit-or-miss with the food and service. They offer a huge selection of breakfast, lunch, and dinner diner-style items. There is everything from French toast, to salads, to pies, to prime rib. I ordered the Breakfast Club Melt with loaded hash browns (an added cost for cheese and bacon bits). The sandwich was alright. The parmesan crust was nice and the eggs inside were cooked well. It just felt incredibly oily. As soon as I bit into it, grease literally seeped out. The hash browns were unfortunately pretty soggy. The added cheese and bacon, instead of adding flavor to them, just made them even soggier and greasier. My dad got biscuits and gravy for his meal and said he was disappointed too. The gravy was very runny and flavorless. I did really enjoy the orange juice though. It is freshly squeezed and is very refreshing. The food prices are relatively low so I'd say the food quality is reflective of the price. The service was fine. Nothing really spectacular. The food came out pretty quick for it being relatively busy. The idea of a bear-themed diner is incredibly cute too. Unfortunately, this location is pretty ran down. It was dirty and very loud. Although I totally understand this is by no means an upscale restaurant, I would expect the booth cushions to not be ripped open, no to be sticky tables, and no crayon marks on the walls. If you're going early in the morning you'll have the opportunity to meet Tiffany who I would say is the best server I've ever dealt with. We went there for breakfast, so I can't speak of their lunch and dinner, but I bet it is good, if it is anything like the care they took in preparing our breakfast. The place is sort of large, but not too big. It is clean and parking is easy. The service is very good. Our server was kind and got our food right the first time and it was all served hot. We ordered coffee, which was great and looked at the menu, We ordered the Grizz which is two sweet cream pancakes with 3 eggs, which I love. I am always in need of more eggs. It also came with two slices of thick-cut smoked bacon, 2 sausage links and a good sized smoked ham steak. I had to share that. It was a lot of food. It was all perfect. We also tried the Bigfoot Chicken Fried Steak with eggs. It was so great and heart attack ready if you ate that everyday. I might be able to manage it. I loved it. It was 10 oz of tender beef, breaded then deep fried and smothered in enough country gravy for dipping the great biscuits with which it comes. The biscuits are home made and amazing. It also comes with eggs. You really do have to share this as it is a lot of food. We took a little back to our hotel and it was gone in minutes, The New York steak and eggs is cooked to order just the way you want it, and I always want my meat rare. It is just wonderful. They also have a lot of friendly assistants that help bring out the food and made sure our coffee was refilled and hot. The fries were slightly cold but I gave the server a pass because he got all 15 orders out together and perfectly. The steak was ordered as medium rare only for it to come out seered on both sides and completely raw and bleeding inside..
