Tasty or WasteY??? Even though the food is tasty.... The service is not as good as the food. You are asked to seat yourself. I'm not sure if the servers recognizes who finds a table 1st. We were sitting for about 15 minutes before our waitress took our order. We noticed a bigger party walk in at least five minutes after us and they sat down. Our waitress took their order first and then proceeded to get them drinks and help them. We had to ask to take our order. And she had the nerve to get annoyed with us. Very unprofessional. And then she proceeded to be a little snobby towards us if we asked for something else. The food was great, but we will look for that server and we will not sit where she is working. They should be retrained to keep an eye out on who sits 1st. My breakfast was excellent and the pancakes were perfect size. I heard that they have karaoke here on Thursday nights from 6-10, and since I LOVE going to karaoke, I decided to give it a whirl. The KJ, Clovis, is AMAZING, knowledgeable, kind, and funny, and takes great care to make you sound the best that you're able. The service was great, very attentive and nice, plus they also sang, and boy...do they have GREAT vocals! I wasn't very hungry, so I just got a bowl of chili and a coffee since I was exhausted. The coffee was fresh and just the right strength, and the chili was a solid 3 out of 5. I added a few splashes of Tobasco sauce to mine, I like things a little spicier. All in all, I had a very nice evening, and look forward to going again next week. The ambiance is that of a classic American diner. You seat yourself and the server takes your order. We ordered a cup of coffee (3/5), a love me tender with hash browns and a biscuit (4/5) and the special, chilaquiles with chicken and over easy eggs (5/5). The food was great and good portion sizes! When I don't finish a meal I purchase at a restaurant you can bet it wasn't good. I ordered the skillet with carne asada and two sunny side up eggs. The egg yolks were definitely smaller than what I'm used to seeing. So I don't know what type of eggs were used. I got some potatoes and the seasoning wasn't there and they were also overcooked. The carne asada had alot of inedible parts. I get it, you need those parts to release fat and help cook and give the meat flavor, but this particular dish had less carne asada and more fat. The best part of the dish was the buttered toast. The service was slightly better than moderate, not bad, but also not good. Inside the restaurant, I did appreciate the multiple televisions sets but it is way to dark in there for my taste. Yea, it definitely has its retro feel so ...I'll just leave it at that. read more

Ordered the bonanza burger... Loved the burger minus the lettuce. It was too wilted from the patty. The young man that greeted us was very friendly, the waitress could have been friendlier. It was the busiest I've ever seen, but it was precious seen elderly friends enjoying a meal wearing their old Leatherman jackets. Perhaps it was a high school reunion, whatever it was... Amazing food and service, buttt......... If the food was all I was rating I'd give five stars immediately. I had the tuna melt, and it was heavenly, if you like tuna salad this sandwich is for you. And although the altogether ambiance was a positive the bathroom situation couldn't be overlooked. The signage was upside down and the men's bathroom was out of sight unless you walked almost completely tot he women's room, and even then when the doors propped open like it was you can't tell it's a bathroom until your inside. Next the stall door which had little to no privacy already didn't lock, not only was there two locks that don't work, the door was loose so even if the only lock I could use had a handle and I didn't have to pinch my finger just to use it I'd still need to hold the door up while using it. Then we have the seats, it was basically disconnected, or rather hanging on by one post and you can't sit on it in the middle where you should. There were scratches on basically ever surface spelling out something I didn't care to read. When I went there was no toilet paper on either side of the holder or anywhere else and I had to use the paper towels... also there was graffiti on the mirrors, even with the amazing aesthetic the graffiti made it hard to see and was obviously vandalism. If the food wasn't the best tuna melt I've ever had I'd bomb with a -1 star, but that and the service were amazing 10/10, so here I am reluctantly with a 3 star review. read more

I went to have breakfast with my two toddlers and asked for scrambled eggs as I was feeding them I noticed eggs shells in the eggs . Accidents happen I know so I went back and gave it another chance . I think the cook needs to be more careful today my French toast was a mess . It was burnt and my food wasn't freshly made . Overall, the food experience was amazing. The Chicken Fried Steak was very flavorful. It is not outrageously big (which is good), and the gravy that is on top compliments it. It has flavor and really makes the whole dish cohesive. The Popeye omelete was good as well. With the spinach, onions, and ground meat, it makes a hearty breakfast meal for anyone. The service was good. We were able to seat ourselves and were greeted by a host for our drinks.Not too long after that, our waitress came and took our order. I have always come here but haven't been in a while. So today for my lunch I wanted to come have the breakfast I normally get bacon mushrooms and cheese omelet with hash browns and biscuits and gravy i always get this every time I come in. And I see new faces as well along with a cook. When this food was ready it set in the window while the waitresses stand there talking and playing on the phones. Then my waitress put her fingers in my food to pick something out. She brought over my food and the hash browns I can taste the grease and the omelet taste the same. Always a reliable and testy meal. This used to be a legendary bar in Modesto, not so much anymore, but the food and restaurant are still amazing, FAST and delicious. This is a very reasonably priced restaurant that the entire family can enjoy. The staff is always so nice and the restaurant is clean. It is super easy to find directly off the freeway and there is a big parking lot with plenty of free parking for patrons. Anything you choose will be delicious. On Sunday march 23rd me and my family went to eat here in the morning. As i notice it started to get busy the owner was getting upset and yelling at one of his employees. He was being very disrespectful and you could see the employee had a distress look on her face. Also the i assume the manager she needs to be fired.. she just looks unprofessional and customer service skills are terrible. I felt bad for the employee because as a owner he should know a time and place and not be unprofessional in front of customers. Overall the food was whatever honestly better places out there to eat if you as me. Cleanliness is very lacked here and just over all very out dated. The restroom looked like a trap house bathroom... Been here a few times and each time not impressed. I forgot they put hot pepper flakes in the Country Gravy. It's not supposed to be spicy. Too spicy to eat for people who don't like spicy food. It was on the chicken fried steak and the potatoes. Once I scraped the gravy off the steak and potatoes were good. But again, country gravy isn't supposed to be spicy. The Garlic bread tasted a bit different. The fried fish was too greasy. Ranch was as runny as water. Literally. Kids grilled cheese was blah. The fries were great! And they have Pepsi vs come. This place has better tasting breakfast than ihop, dennys, & Huckleberry, the Owner is a really cool down to earth guy I just met on my most recent visit. Stopped here for lunch and totally loved it. The place is comfortable, fun and has lots of character. My dining companion and I sat in a booth near a window. The red vinyl seats are quite striking. Service was very friendly and efficient. We got everything from menus to check promptly. I had the pastrami sandwich and it was huge and very tasty, although messy to eat. That was part of the enjoyment of it. The pastrami was more bologna style cut as opposed to chucks or strips. The meat stuck out from the bun and dressed very well. I also had a side of sweet potato fries and they were quite filling and delicious. There was no way I could finish them as they were plentiful. Other orders passing by looked very hearty.
