Covid happened & after that the quality control in the food industry has plummeted....their fries are terrible, their California burger is tasteless! Weekends you may have to wait since they can get busy. Our 3rd time there and the good is decent. The last time we were there was for a late breakfast the waitress basically put our food on the table and never came back until she dropped off the bill. I could of used some hot sauce. So, I did not have a very good road trip this time, and sadly Perko's just further added to my disappointment. I am somewhat embarrassed that I insisted to my roadmates that we have breakfast here. Yes it is a chain, and this was my first visit to this location. In days gone by I remember fantastic breakfasts and really good coffee in Oakdale or near there. But this location missed the mark on so many levels. The two stars are for the service, it could not have been more attentive. The food is zero stars. My toast served with my breakfast I sincerely believe would have broken the plate glass windows had I tossed it at it. The coffee tasted like dishwater it was not drinkable, and I was so in need of at least a decent cup of coffee. One of my roadmates ordered tea, again, horrible. Third roadmate opted for the o.j., said it was powdered o.j., aka tang. I tasted both and agreed with their assessments. Our breakfasts arrived in a timely manner. Loved my hash browns, but as stated above the toast was noit edible unless you wanted to leave there with all your teeth broken. The bacon was undercooked, yuck, the eggs had no flavor at all. My roadmates complained their waffles were not edible, so I sampled from their plate, cardboard would be more appealing. Another roadmate indicated the fresh fruit as an option was spot on. Good thing as that was the only dish she finished. Not the Perko's I remember, and sheesh did I have to apologize up the kazoo for insisting we go there for breakfast. No longer a fan and will probably never visit this chain again. I should mention that my insistence on having breakfast there is that this chain does not exist in my area. I get an email from Perkos for $5.00 when you order 2 entrees. No restriction listed on the email coupon. They refused to honor it with very poor reasons. The coupon was what brought us in. 3 Stars, but a solid 3. For a chain, not a bad dish of fish and chips. Late night trip back from the hill country, the only other choices this time of night were Mel's, or Denny's. Did Mel's last week, and so it was a coin toss between the two chains. In about 8:30 p m, pretty empty. Promptly seated and offered beverages and menus. Young staff was very good, did their jobs, our server, Jessica, was excellent. Usually don't do chains, but if you're on your way back from Jackson, Kirkwood, or Black Chasm Caverns , not a bad little place to get a bite to eat. read more

It's time to this restaurant and staff is outstanding. We ordered basic breakfast and it arrived quickly, hot and as ordered. Coffee is above average. Table condiments stocked. Cleanliness is below average with lots of dirty memorabilia. It's a typical decor for a restaurant of this type. The fajita omelette with avocado and jalapeño on top was loved for good flavor and great portion. The crepes are not crepes but taco folders thinner pancakes. How hard is it to make a crepes? At least they have the good quality ketchup with no HFCS. For what it is this fits in the Denny's category. Many like this type of dining but I don't. No my favorite kinda place. read more

My sons favorite is a ham and cheese omelette with hash browns and a side of pancakes. It is almost enough for two people! I'm happy with any of the breakfast scrambles or lunch sandwich's. We usually order takeout. They always prepare our order correctly and it's always delicious. I love their burgers and onion rings but do try the crispy chicken Thai salad. Nasty! First they bring me coffee with nearly perfect, bright red lipstick lips on the rim from whomever used that cup before me. They weren't even smudged like they'd even attempted to wash the cup. This was after we ordered. Then they brought the food. I took one bite of the crab cake and spit it out. It was so stale and tasted freezer burnt. My companion tried a bite because I wanted to know if I was imagining things. They spit it out too with a disgusted face. It was so bad it even smelled funny and was hard. When I told the waitress, and that no, I didn't have time to stay and wait for another meal to be made (I'd lost my appetite too), she said they'd only give me a partial discount. Also, when I suggested that they pull the package the crab cake came out of and not serve them to other people, she looked at me like I was crazy and said she couldn't do it, it was up to the person who ordered the food and they were going to be gone a few days but she'd let them know when they got back. Went camping this weekend and on the way up on Saturday stoped for lunch. Very helpful staff that kept out glasses full and service was prompt. Our food came quickly and was very good. On our return trip Monday we decided to try it again as it was very good the first time. Again we were not disappointed. The service started off slow but I believe it's because we requested seating by a window out of the current servers area. However they took care of us and again the food was great. I understand it's a chain diner in the same vein as Denny's, and in some ways it's better than Denny's and in others, not. The food is middle of the road, but I do have to say their french fries are great. But for $8-10 an entree, I'd rather go splurge on 2 In-N-Out Double-Doubles, fries, and a drink for $9. Awesome food. I would recommend if you haven't tried the pizza sticks for your appetizer it is a must. I'm from San Francisco and they don't sell anything like this in our cafes. The western grill is so tender and juicy for a tri-tip sandwich. Great atmosphere and waiters are so kind and welcoming. I went in for dinner last night with my best friend and had the rib eye steak. It was cooked perfectly and the clam chowder was fantastic. The server was so nice and helpful also. We had a great breakfast here! Doris was our server. Her service was outstanding! She wasn't too busy to attend to each and everyone of her tables, at least four times per table. Me and my sister-in-law came in on Monday, August 10th 2015 around 2pm and sat down to eat a late lunch. I had the chef salad and Iced Tea. We had the best service ever, Thank you Melisa....You Rocked! The food was good and well presented. The Iced Tea was really good (not bitter like some restaurants that let their tea sit for days) and they didn't seem to care that we stayed and chatted a little bit even after we were done with our meal. For the last 10 plus years, our family of 20 has always stopped for lunch at Denny's in Jackson for lunch at the end of our annual, week-long camping trip. Last year our experience wasn't great but we thought it was an off day. This year my daughter went ahead to give them advance notice (no cell service at Silver Lake). When she told them there would be 20, the hostess walked over to someone in the back and my daughter heard "no! We're too busy. I'm not going to have the cooks have to cook for a group of 20." No offer of a wait time or an apology, just basically "we don't want to deal with a big family." We drove down the road to Perko's and they were busier than Dennys but we were hungry and the kids and grandkids look forward to this traditional end of the trip. When I said 20, the hostess asked how far away the others were; I told her about 5 minutes. She said she could get us two tables next to each other and by the time everyone arrived, they had them ready. I cannot describe how nice everyone was from the bussers to the waitress. The place was packed with some travelers but a whole lot of regulars who were treated like family, and vice versa. It was an older crowd and instead of being annoyed when my 8 month old grandson got fussy, several of them came over and made him laugh. The food? Great. Everyone loved the food, but everyone is still talking about how welcome they made us feel. Like we were regulars. When we left, the manager and the cooks said goodbye and asked us to come back again. No doubt about that. They won us over and we'll be back. Score: Perko's 10/10; Denny's 0/10. read more

They have an option to get a blueberry muffin instead of toast, and I definitely recommend it! It has a nice hard crust at the top with a warm gooey center. This is a Perko's, a Diner, and as such I rate it on that scale. The staff is amazing, no chaos when busy, and all staff keep busy cleaning, filling, and stocking when slower. They know many of their customers by name and always seem happy to be doing their job. The food is top-notch, I think the soups are home made, as are other items from the menu and specials. We were hoping to have a good country breakfast but unfortunately that was not the case. The service is excellent but it stops there. Their biscuits, at least the ones we got, we hard as rocks. The gravy had no sausage in it. My eggs were cooked ok, they gave me hash browns instead of the country potatoes but I should have stuck with the hash browns because when I got my potatoes, they had no onions or peppers in them. I've had Perkos at other places in california but this one is a farm fresh diner so they have a different menu. We had lunch specials many times lasagna and burgers. Wow the food was fresh and tasted as if it had been made from scratch. I really really like this place but the times Ive gone my family and I have been treated oddly, even being watched till we get in our car. I didnt want to believe this so Ive gone back many times trying not to believe they are racist. I mean the continued faces, the difference in service, the following to the car and well being the only ppl of color I confirmed. So the food is 5/5 but I cant tolerate business practices that allow staff to behave in such obvious manners, so they get ZERO and no more business from me! read more

I had a really bad experience across the parking lot at Strings this evening. You can read that post if you'd like as it will not be changed, or removed. To make a long story short, I wanted pasta. Specifically spaghetti with marinara. Mom and I went to Perkos instead of strings and I GOT MY SPAGHETTI ON!!! My biscuit on my biscuits and gravy cracked with an audible sound heard by all at the table. The green beans were not edible. I believe the term used to describe them was "I think someone peed on them" (this is from a 12 year old mind you) the lettuce on the buffalo salad was wilted, possibly rotting. Either way, it was foul. On a positive note, the gravy is pretty good, and the servers are nice and polite. And I'm a pain in the ass so they did good.
