We came in for brunch last Saturday, and everything was absolutely wonderful! The food was delicious, and the service was outstanding. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. I wish I could remember her name--it started with a "C," maybe Catelyn? She was fantastic! Easily made reservations on their website for 7:15 pm on a Saturday. Got there at 7 but they were still able to sit us early. We had seats inside but there was also nice seating outside too. Inside was nice although the table was a bit small for 4 people sharing. Decided to try the Calamari to share. It came with two delicious sauces and I enjoyed the texture and was seasoned well. For entrees we got the Salmon, chicken Saltimbocca, whisky burger, and Filet mignon. The chicken was good and I liked how it was stuffed. Asparagus was cooked well. Although the mashed potatoes were a bit bland and the gravy wasn't my favorite but still I enjoyed it. The salmon was tasty, similar to the chicken. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly and was also plated similar to the other dishes. The whisky burger was delicious and would return again for it! My friends & I had the girls getaway trip last Thursday. After visiting the Young's & Villa Toscano vineyards in Shenandoah, Plymouth and Bella Grace wine tasting in Sutter Creek, we called the day. We proceeded checking in at the Hotel Sutter to stay overnight. It was our first time staying here in Sutter Creek. The hotel and restaurant have a charming old town vibe. We did not have any reservation on Thursday night. We got the table by the window for four of us. The restaurant looked cozy to unwind after our long day driving from San Francisco and visiting vineyards. Our server was Robert. He brought us cold glasses of water as it was a hot day. He opened our bottle of red wine that a friend brought from home. He was helpful answering our questions about the menu. We ordered Watermelon Fresca Salad, Crab Prawn Louie and Bacon Jam Burger that Robert recommended. The food was served promptly. We started eating as we were hungry and enjoying the food. Robert was thoughtful, attentive and sweet and making sure our table had all we needed. We said the burger was moist and delicious. The way each ordered was absolutely delicious until one friend who was 1/3 eating her Crab Prawn Louie salad discovered a blond strand hair sitting on the plate. She notified Robert and he took her plate. He said he will remove the salad from the bill. I shared my fries with my friend as the burger was filling me up. Later Robert gave our friend a sundae dessert and she shared it with us. The bill came and as promised by Robert my friend was not charged. She gave him a good tip though. The service and ambiance were lovely. If we are visiting Sutter Creek, we would be happy to return again. read more

What a great spot!!! We were seated right away & given ice cold water which was fantastic on this hot day!!!! We ordered ice tea as well & it was freshly brewed. Also, came in a mason jar which I LOVE!!!! My daughter & I decided 2 split an order of their Brussel sprouts (w/ lemon aioli, bacon & Parmesan) & the ultimate BLAT!!! The BLAT came on toasted sliced sourdough, w/ a garlic aioli lettuce, tomato, avocado, & SPROUTS!!! I LOVE SPROUTS on sammiches!!! It also came w/ French fries. The brussel sprouts was a huge amount & it was garlicky!!!! Delish!!! The BLAT had this freshness thanks 2 the produce especially the tomato!!! The French fries needed seasoning & wished they were a little more crispy, but still a decent fry. The ambiance was perfect 4 the daytime, had a tiny light on the table & the chairs were comfy. December 11, 2025 - Sutter Creek, CA Stepping inside feels like taking a step back in time--the ambiance hits you right away. We did have to wait a few minutes before being greeted, but it was early and lunch service seemed to be just getting underway. We ordered the French Dip to share, and for an extra $5 they plated it as two full meals, which I always appreciate. They also had some festive specialty cocktails, so I tried the Jack Frost mule. It came out a beautiful blue, was nicely ginger-forward, and absolutely delicious. The French Dip was very good as well--the bread was soft, and the meat was tender. The Sutter Hotel had a NYE four course meal to ring in the New Year with a beautiful singer tribute to 1957, cost $79 each. I had the shrimp scampi and my husband had the chicken both dishes were superb!! We started with the shrimp cocktail each and the split pea soup and finished with the Upside down pineapple cake. It was a huge piece. I couldn't eat all of mine. The singer had a beautiful voice, she looked so elegant and it was a tribute to 1957. They gave you a card to answer trivia questions from 1957. Neither of us were born yet so we had to use google. It was a fun thing to do. I'm so glad we took the opportunity to go to the Hotel and afterward we went downstairs to the speakeasy to ring in the New year in Sutter Creek. My husband and I were celebrating one of our several anniversaries and didn't want to go to Sacramento for the evening. Hotel Sutter Restaurant has been on my list of places to check out in our neck of the woods for a while. We for sure wanted a classy place that served cocktails, and Hotel Sutter fit the bill. Both of us were also craving a good craft burger, and from what I saw in other reviews, the burgers looked delicious. I made a reservation for us on OpenTable just in case, but since it was a weeknight I wasn't too concerned if we had walked in. We were seated nearly immediately, and our server cheerfully asked us what we wanted to drink besides good ole H2O. I was really glad we came to visit around Christmastime, since they were serving holiday cocktails and other beverages. I went with the partridge pear martini, while my husband went with the Santa's spiced cider. My martini was oh so delicious and perfectly strong, and I had a small sip of my husband's cider, which was refreshing with the perfect holiday-esque notes. We read a few mixed reviews on the apps, so went straight to the entrees instead. I chose the bacon jam burger and my husband chose the traveller whiskey burger. Both of us upgraded to the garlic rosemary seasoning. I went with fries and my husband went with tots. Honestly, we were glad that we didn't end up ordering an app, since the burgers themselves were pretty filling! We both asked for medium on the cook temp of our patties, and they delivered. The meat was perfectly juicy with a wonderful charred flavor. The bacon jam was so delicious, and the balsamic arugula paired perfectly with everything. My brioche bun was pillowy and yet did not fall apart with all the juices of the burger. I did not get a chance to try my husband's burger, but he stated that it was also top notch. My fries were piping hot, with a perfect dusting of garlic rosemary flavor and sprinkles of Parmesan cheese. I tried a tot and that was also delightfully crispy and flavorful. We asked for ranch and that went well with both sides. The ketchup was great as well. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. Old buildings are always up my alley, and the rich history of Hotel Sutter can truly be felt simply by touching its brick walls (that is, if you believe in the spirit realm). I loved that each table had its own light, but the restaurant had the perfect dim setting for a classy date night. Our server was very friendly and attentive, and kept our waters refilled. We had a concern regarding the pricing of the cider on the bill vs on the menu and that was fixed immediately, with the rest of the staff notified for future reference. It was a tiny discrepancy, but one that we caught quickly and simply wanted to bring up. Hotel Sutter Restaurant is definitely on our places to return to in the future, and I'd love to sit on the balcony some other time and enjoy some brunch and mimosas. After a day tasting fantastic wines from the region, I needed a meal to soak up the Jesus juice flowing through my body. This historic hotel/restaurant was a short walk from my Inn. It definitely has a gold rush vibe (minus the soiled doves). The menu is broad and includes Italian, American, Asian, and Southwest dishes. I ordered the aroncini appetizer and the bacon jam burger with rosemary garlic tots. I can't pass on tots. The bacon jam was rich which definitely elevated the burger. When it came the the aroncini, the sauce was the star--very delicious. I could've licked the plate. The waitress was attentive enough that I didn't shame myself by doing that, though. Very neat old town and this restaurant felt like history walking in. We made reservations and glad we did as it was very busy and the World Series was on the bar tv making it loud. Great menu with a lot of variety to satisfy most and reasonably priced. Also kid friendly as there were a few in attendance. Not a romantic spot due to the loudness though. I opted for a nice starter salad with steak and was pleasantly surprised by the size and it was a nice tender cut. My friends ordered salads and coconut shrimp and were equally pleased. They had some nice drinks and I opted for an Aperol plunge which had a small split in it, very refreshing after a day of wine tasting. I don't know what spice is in it but it's flavorful. My wife had the Salmon burger and really enjoyed it. Excellent flavor. Our friend had the Southwest Salad, and she said that it was good. Tons of salad! Our server was a very nice man, but he was by himself. There was a young lady that I think was supposed to help him with drinks, but you had to ask her for refills. Stopped by Hotel Sutter in Sutter Creek for brunch after the Barbera Festival in Plymouth. The hotel and restaurant have such a charming old-town vibe -definitely a cozy spot to unwind after a busy weekend. Our server was great--friendly, attentive, and helpful when we had questions about the menu. I ended up ordering the brisket hash, which wasn't quite what I expected. I've had a version at a local spot in Reno that used cubed potatoes and chunks of brisket, but this version came with shredded hash browns and shredded brisket, topped with eggs and a pretty vinegary BBQ sauce. I had asked for light sauce, but it was still a bit overpowering for me. In hindsight, I should've asked for it on the side. The dish just didn't hit the mark for me personally, and I wouldn't order it again. That said, the service and ambiance were lovely, and I'd definitely come back to try something else on the menu. I think there's still potential here, it just wasn't the right dish for me this time around. read more

Hotel Sutter is the kind of place that always leaves me thinking, "I want this place to be better." Let's start with the positives. I actually appreciate that the wine list leans local, even if it feels like it was curated by someone's uncle who went wine tasting 20 years ago and never looked back it. The food is... fine. Not bad. Not amazing. It's the culinary equivalent of saying, "Sure, I guess." I keep going back because, well, options are limited. The steaks are good, but they feel like they're trying really hard to be Outback Steakhouse. Meanwhile, you're sitting in historic Sutter Creek surrounded by incredible ranches, local farms, and wineries. This place has every opportunity to serve something that screams Gold Country instead of "G'day, mate." Those grill marks need to stay back in the 90's Then there's the speakeasy. I've never seen a speakeasy with a giant sign that says "Speakeasy." That's like opening a secret club with a billboard. I was half tempted to tape a Post-it over the sign that said "NOT" so it would at least be historically accurate. The first rule of speakeasy is... don't advertise that it's a speakeasy. The cocktails could use some soul. I had what was easily the worst Paloma I've ever been served. Next time I'm just going to sneak in my own Mexican Squirt and call it a day . Service is a mixed bag. Brandon and Madison behind the bar have always been friendly and know what they're doing. Then there's the bartender in suspenders, who somehow makes you feel like asking for a drink is interrupting his personal time. I always leave wondering if I should've apologized for ordering. The restaurant servers generally seem to operate on the philosophy of "minimum effective effort." They're not rude, just... emotionally on airplane mode. The exception is the older bald gentleman who opened our bottle of wine with an old-school flourish, peeling the foil and pulling the cork like he was performing a magic trick. Give that man a raise. He's keeping the art alive. At the end of the day, Hotel Sutter isn't bad. It just feels like a place that's still trying to figure out what it wants to be. Historic hotel? Steakhouse? Cocktail bar? Speakeasy? Pick a lane and lean into it. Gold Country has so much personality. I hope Hotel Sutter goes on a little retreat, finds itself, and comes back ready to embrace it. read more

While visiting out of town I made reservations for friend and I to visit this restaurant we had been admiring it since planning our trip. It's nestled in the small town of Sutter Creek and it feels the old time feel of the time. The restaurant as a bar and you are quickly greeted once you enter. We were seated by window doors that were opened to the evening breeze. We quickly made our selection and I had a glass of sparkling wine. The menu has many options. However I was really interested in there prime rib however it's only served on the weekends. I settled with ordering a chimichurri tri-tip shaved tater tot as my appetizer with the side salad. The tater tots had a really great flavor. The chimichurri sauce was not overpowering and the potatoes came out very crispy. The side salad was a perfect side and the vinaigrette was the perfect addition. When my entree came which included a chimichurri glazed salmon with mixed vegetables and a loaded baked potato my table was full! The salmon was perfectly cooked and light and flaky. The baked potato was okay. With the evening still being young and the meal so incredible we also settled on trying dessert. I went for the apple crisp with ice cream which was really good and tasted homemade. Overall I had a really great experience and our server gave us good recommendations for a nightcap at the Speakeasy bar not far from us. read more

We stayed at the Hotel Sutter and booked dinner when we completed our pre check in. It is always great when you get the benefit of a bar and restaurant at the hotel you are staying & they are great! The town shuts down pretty early so this is a treat to be able to hang out and enjoy the atmosphere without leaving. This is our first time staying at the hotel and stopping by the lobby bar to enjoy a few drinks. However it is our second time dining at the restaurant. We had a reservation and we were seated right away upon checking in. The restaurant was busy with a lot of the tables filled along with a few large groups. It was a holiday weekend and good to see the restaurant busy. It did take a bit for someone to come by the table or acknowledge us. However, the person brought by some waters, and informed us that our server would be by soon to take our order. They were pretty busy so it was understandable and we were not in a hurry so not a big deal. Once the server arrived she thanked us for our patience and understanding for the wait. She was attentive and really nice. We ordered a few glasses of wine and our dinner selections at that time. The wine options were the same as the lobby bar and we opted for a white and red local wine. We ordered the prime rib that was tender and flavorful. We also ordered the seasonal harvest salad to share that was delicious with sweet potatoes, spring salad and beets. For dessert we ordered the pumpkin lava cake with vanilla ice cream that was a seasonal offering. It did not disappoint. My husband & I and a couple of friends came to Hotel Sutter for dinner after the concert at Sutter Creek Theater. It was a very pleasant dinning. The food was great & our extra attentive waiter who looks like Richard Geer in cowboy boots did an excellent job in waiting for us. He came by constantly asking if we needed anything. I have been wanting to eat at Hotel Sutter Restaurant in Sutter Creek. Nice setting. Hard wood floors, historical tone.... Recommend a reservation... A friend and I had been wanting to come here for dinner since we were in town for business. We were seated across from the windows which were opened to let the early evening breeze inside. Our server immediately provided ice water and took our drink order and was helpful with our appetizers and food orders. I opted for the pear martini which was tasty. Tried a small cup of their tortilla soup which was really good. I had the Ahi Poke salad, and the Brussel sprouts with the garlic aoili The quality of the food was excellent. My salad was very fresh with different textures and flavors. Since it was still early, opted for the bread pudding for desert. Staying at the Hotel Sutter (you can read my review on that as well), we opted for the restaurant. Made reservations (highly recommended especially on the weekends) as this place is super popular with locals and tourists. Dine here and you'll know why. Seated quickly, served water and drink order was taken. Extensive menu, lots of enticing choices. If you are pretzel lover, you have to start with the Pig Fig & Goat: giant warm buttered Bavarian pretzel, prosciutto, fig jam , goat cheese with honey, smokey beer cheese, candied pecans...a meal in itself. Pretzel with goat cheese and fig jam was incredible. After wolfing this down, opted for the beef short ribs, fall apart delish finished in a pomegranate demi glaze on cheesy mashed potatoes with seasonal veggies. Service was attentive and friendly, app and entrees timed well. Definitely a return when back in town. After the restaurant closes, make it down to their speakeasy, the Copper Room, located in the basement. A vast array of whiskey, rye and bourbon (yeah, even Pappy if your wallet can handle it (up to $75 for half ounce pour!!)). I took the housemade croissant and cut it in half and made myself a yummy breakfast sandwich with all the ingredients. Highly recommend. The table also ordered their lemon garlic Brussel sprouts and WOW! That blew us all away, they packed a punch full of flavor and had the right crispyness to them. This restaurant has been on my "want to try" list for a while and it did not disappoint! The restaurant is old world charm with modern updates. Walking into Hotel Sutter brought a feeling of relaxation and comfort. All of the staff was warm and welcoming. To start brunch, I had the DIY Mimosas. It was beautifully presented and the juices were delicious. I liked that I could mix the juices at my rate and to my ratio preference. My husband had the Spicy Pomegranate Mule which was well balanced with just the right amount of spicy heat. For food, we had the Sutter Benedict with smoked salmon, Tri-Tip Hash, and the French Toast. The Sutter Benedict was ok. The eggs were poached perfectly but the benedict was one-note and missing something (maybe capers) to add dimension and depth to this dish. The Tri-Tip Hash was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS!!! It had complexity, depth, was well seasoned, and each bite left you craving more. The French Toast had bursts of flavor in each bite but the real star was the syrup (and I don't like syrup!) The syrup was so decadent and delicious I made sure it didn't go to waste! After exploring the town and surrounding areas, we swung back around for another visit. I had an Espresso Martini and a slice of the Carrot Cake. The Martini was delicious balance of chocolate and espresso. The cake was DELICIOUS! It was light and airy while staying perfectly sweet and savory at the same time. I am already planning for my next visit and can't wait to dive into the other items on the menu. read more

My best friend and I stayed at this hotel and decided to grab a bite downstairs. Boy, am I glad we did! The service was great and the food was spectacular. We enjoyed appetizers of the Brussels sprouts and pretzel (pig, fig, and goat) which is basically a charcuterie on a smaller scale. It did not disappoint. My partner had grey goose over, his favorite. We started with the clam chowder, we both agreed it was one of, if not the best clam chowder we ever had. We ordered the French bread it came with butter and garlic olive oil and the bread came out warm, so nice. We split a salad and the rib eye. The rib eye had a really yummy complementary sauce. Not overpowering at all. The loaded mash potatoes that came with it were so good, creamy with bacon and cheese. Very disappointed with the quality of the $16.00 Burnt Brussel Sprouts Appetizer we had yesterday afternoon. I hang with my friend's mom who lives in Sutter Creek two times a week and we walk downtown for lunch. After paying over $45 for two drinks and a burnt appetizer, I will NEVER go back! Yes, we should have said something at the moment but I kept receiving phone calls about my father in memory care and frankly was dealing with a lot! I also should have taken a picture but it would have been black as that's what we received, I didn't know the chef was cajon cooking...Burnt! VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! read more

The atmosphere is amazing. You feel like you're in an old west movie. But the food! They could do so much better with a tad bit of effort! The mahi mahi was like leather. The side of salmon on the pasta was at best 4 ounces. It was half a small slice of salmon! The pasta? I'd say the Alfredo was about on par to the Olive Garden. The best part of the meal was the appetizers -- except for the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were dry and tasted like they may have been made the day before. And for service. It was fine. Slow at times, attentive at others. All in all average service with chain restaurant quality food. read more
