This is exactly what upcountry needed!! I remember driving by this establishment multiple times when it was empty, then when it became Graze, then when it became empty again. It looks like Ramblehorn is here to stay and I'm here for it! The prices are affordable, the portions are huge, and the staff are friendly. Parking is tight, but not terrible. Amador Brewing is next door as well. As soon as you step in, it smells like a classic diner, the kind of smell that takes you back. We went for a late brunch on a Sunday and it was packed, but we were able to be seated pretty quickly. Our server was attentive and jovial. Whenever I try out a new breakfast/brunch spot (which isn't that often since I don't normally eat breakfast/brunch), I have to order the eggs benedict. Perfecting a hollandaise sauce and poached eggs isn't exactly the easiest, so it's pretty tell-tale for a restaurant if they can get their eggs benedict right. For my side I went with the hash browns. My husband wanted something a little lighter, so he went with the breakfast sandwich and a side of hash browns. Apparently you can order the egg however you want, so he decided to ask for it scrambled. He chose bacon for the meat. It took a while for our food to arrive. As soon as we placed our order, it seemed that everyone was coming for the lunch rush. There were a few tables that had also just ordered as well. Our server was very apologetic for the wait, but we said we didn't mind. I could tell they were still working through the kinks and training new staff, but the system they had going was already good. Once our food arrived, we were so excited to dig in. The poached eggs passed the test, and so did the hollandaise sauce. I hate when breakfast food is overly oily or rich, but the food here was not that at all. The English muffins also held up well to the barrage of yolk pouring out of the eggs. The hash browns were delightfully crispy, and my favorite additions to hash browns are ketchup and hot sauce, both of which they have at the condiment section of each table. My husband enjoyed his breakfast sandwich as well. It wasn't heavy and was well-balanced. The bacon was crispy and the eggs were fluffy. You can tell that the staff at Ramblehorn make their food with love. Given the multitudes of patrons that have been stopping by, I'm pretty sure Ramblehorn will stay for the long haul. I'm definitely coming back to try some other dishes soon! read more

We thought waiting a few months from opening would allow them time to work out the kinks... The positives: servers were friendly though they seemed stressed, but they checked on us a few times. For a busy Saturday at 930am, it appeared they could use more help. My daughter also liked her waffle and the orange juice was delicious. The negatives: we ordered items that said "home made" and they absolutely did not taste as such. The corned beef hash was in no way made from scratch- it had the meat texture of canned corned beef with soggy shredded potatoes mixed in... similar to wet cat food texture. The overall flavor wasn't the best either. The country Benedict was also flavorless- the "home made" gravy tasted only of flour and sadness, and the sausage patties were limp and gray. We also were offered more coffee since the cup was low- but never received the refill before we left. Not sure we will be back but maybe their lunch will be better. read more

Happy to get a new version of this restaurant in Pine Grove. Especially when the food is good, the service is great (it doesn't hurt when our server was my buddy's neighbor), and it's close to home. My buddy and I went on Sunday, and I had the meat lovers omelette with country potatoes. Very happy with the serving size and flavor. Being new, the place was packed - I think with a mix of locals and people headed over Highway 88 for skiing or other winter stuff. The waitresses were very busy, but kept everyone's coffee and water glasses topped off. My buddy had the country fried steak with hash browns and said that he really enjoyed it. His serving was big enough that he wasn't able to finish it all. Both of our orders were correct and correctly cooked as well. We might have to wait a little for the newness to calm down a bit, but we'll definitely be back. This place has been through a few owners since the Sierra House days, with the past versions not up to par with what this place has delivered in just our first visit. Hopefully things don't change, because the upcountry crowd needs a good breakfast place that is close to home. The layout of the restaurant is better than the previous version, so even small things like that make a big difference. Happy to get a hearty plate of food here instead of what I call "foo-foo" servings where the appearance is focused on over taste and size. Go to the city if that's what you're after. Honestly, the serving size hasn't been this generous since the early 90's Sierra House days. Well done to the new owner, keep up the good work! This place is fine. Cooks Station up the road is a fraction of the cost and you get a lot more food for your buck. The chicken sandwich would be better on sourdough with some buffalo sauce or something with a kick as it was a little bland. Hardly consider these to be garlic fries...The Cinnamon Roll tasted like a piece of white bread and the frosting didn't offer much flavor. 2 mimosas here is $28, I could get the same amount of champagne at Cook's for $7. (1/4 price). Overall, the quality was OK. 4 stars for effort and I want to see pioneer thrive. I'm not interested in coming back if they don't adjust their prices. read more

We had the chicken fried steak with country-style potatoes. I love chicken fried steak and this was some of the best I have ever had. The portions were huge, and made 2 more meals after I took the leftovers home. One of my companions had the avocado toast -- A huge portion, about twice as much as I had at another well-known restaurant down in Sutter Creek. She said it was delicious. Been there a couple times, generally not during the rush hours. Staff is excellent, friendly and efficient. We are paying for a step-above dishes and we find the food to be lacking. The chef is not serving food we can't get almost anywhere. The menu(s) have excellent options, just need to take it up a notch (or two) on the quality and seasonings. We always support local and have dreams and hopes the quality will get better as The Duke hears from customers. People oft times say "it was a different chef today." That should not matter. Every good restaurant knows there are set recipes for all their dishes and it should taste the same and have the same quality no matter who the chef is that day. Consistency is everything. Hoping for improvement but nice enough to continue being a customer for now. read more

If you are in Pinegrove check this place out! The service is the best I've ever seen. And we eat out a lot! The Ruben sandwich was huge! Tender, juicy meat served on rye bread nice and fresh! I love their different coffee mugs! And the coffee was good too. My husband had the fried eggs with hash browns and toast. It was cooked perfect. Parking can get busy, but it's right on the street out front. They share the area with the Ale house next door and the ice cream parlor too. But if you go for breakfast it's not too crowded. Service was slow and took over 30 minutes to get our food . Also the fact they were out of hamburger patties for lunch at the begining of the weekend was a little odd. Went today for the first time. I will start with the positive, the food was excellent, the portions were very good and the people working there were doing to best they could in a very stressful environment. There were many empty tables when we arrived and it still took over 10 minutes to be seated. It took another 15-20 minutes just to get water and we had to ask 3 times for water. Finally ordered food and it took well over 30 minutes for our breakfast to arrive. Then we had to order jam for the toast 3 times before we actually received it. After we finished eating it took over 20 minutes to pay the check. If you have plant of time, the food it worth it but if your on a schedule, I would not suggest going there. read more

After visiting a couple times, I can now give some honest feedback. We've been here when it's super packed as well as very early when few people were there. We had eggs Benedict (substituted ham with tomatoes and avocado), veggie omelet, short stack (best ones I've had, ever), avocado toast, and coffee. The potatoes were crispy and well seasoned. We were lucky to stumble across Ramblehorn on our way back from the Sierra's. It turned out to be a bright spot in an otherwise arduous drive through snow covered roads. We were a big group with both adults and kids, the experience at Ramblehorn for everyone was excellent. Food: Everything we ordered - from the kids menu, the breakfast options and the sandwich options, was excellent. The patty melt and the country potatoes were especially excellent. Service: everyone was warm, welcoming and very attentive. Ambiance: I believe the place is new, it was very clean and well kept. Even the restrooms were spotless. The eggs benedict were OK except the hollandaise sauce was very lacking in lemon. The hash browns ok too but seemed to have been sitting around quite a while. We went there today (Saturday) and the place was jammed. The area is clearly ready for a new place to eat. This is a soft opening and they're working out the kinks as the owner readily admitted.
