This pub is perfect for the lil town of Volcano. We saw this pub on yelp and it had some good ratings. So we decided to see for ourselves. I ordered the Chicken Pesto Pasta and the misses had the Fish & Chips. Both were pretty tasty and hearty. We are definitely coming back here when we come back. Service was outstanding and they are dog friendly as well. The outdoor seating plentiful and the inside seating was roomy and spacious. read more

After a fun day at nearby Indian Grinding State Park we came hungry- Union Restaurant totally surprised us in the best way. The food was great but we stayed for the dessert option! Dangerous. The only confusing part was figuring out where to order -- we sat for a minute doing that awkward "are we going to order or...?" shuffle. For anyone else wandering around like we did: go to the counter! Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Great meal, excellent desserts, and worth the tiny moment of confusion. This was the place that we ate out at for brunch the first day of 2026! First thing out of the gate was Eli was our server and he did a great job. What a fine young man. Limited Menu for brunch but I have to say the Omellette that I had that usually has mile (a Mexican Sauce), I replaced with Hallandaise sauce. The Omellette tasted excellent. The coffee here was real smooth and not bitter ... quite excellent! So Al why did you not give it five stars? Here's why? The portiions for the price were somewhat small and the toast were three small slices of bread and for the price you paid for the breakfast you did not receive potatoes. I felt that was bit odd! I observed a few Hamburgers coming out and they looked quite large but the breakfast options did not have the same portion. On a day that the rain was so heavy that Noah would have taken a raft I really liked this place and I will be coming back. I also need to say that they had menu items on a Chalk Board that has quite a selection. What a great place in the heart of the lower foothills in Volcano! By the way, the atmosphere is quite charming. I hardly use that term has a man but that is how I would describe it. read more

What a gem! We stumbled on Volcano Inn while driving through on our way to a friend's get-together. We stopped in for lunch first -- I had the flatbread pizza with blue cheese and figs (the figs were absolutely delightful), and my boyfriend had the fish and chips, which he loved -- perfectly crispy, not soggy, and a great portion. We loved the vibe so much that after our get-together we decided, why don't we just stay here? We booked the Limon room, which was darling -- huge bath, a sweet little balcony, and cozy touches everywhere. The staff was so kind and attentive, which made the stay feel extra special. We even walked down the street to catch a little show, adding to the charm of the night. The only hiccup was not being able to get the DVD player to work but such a tiny thing, compared to the overall experience. This place is truly a gem, and we can't wait to come back. read more

This is one of my favorite spots! Chef Eric is amazing and so is the rest of the staff. Our server Paola was wonderful as well! Every single bite of food was delicious. We started with the mushroom bruschetta which I think I drooled over it was so creamy ( hubby hates mushrooms and loved it) and the pickled veggies plate. Then, I got the Monday special which came with a peach Caprese salad and a chicken pesto pasta. phenomenal!!!!Hubby got his fav- fried chicken which was both so crunchy and so moist! We enjoyed an early afternoon lunch on the patio after visiting the Knight Foundry in Sutter Creek. I had the mushroom bruschetta and it was delicious and filling enough to be a main entree for me. My husband had the lamb burger - wow, it was great. The ciabatta bun used was incredible (we're Bay Area bread connossieurs) along with the combination of ingredients topping it. You can tell a lot of thought and taste testing experiments went into creating this menu item and it's definitely one of the best burgers we've ever had. We also enjoyed a glass of Scott Harvey Barbera with the lamb burger and were so impressed with it that we went to their Sutter Creek tasting room after visiting nearby Black Chasm Cavern and Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park. The food here is top notch! We ordered the mushroom bruschetta as a starter followed by the seared salmon and then shared the seasonal fruit cobbler. The bruschetta had an amazing mushroom sauce and thick shavings of a hard cheese. SO GOOD!! The salmon was perfect and the cobbler...perfect. Service was excellent! We sat on the patio. We stopped by on a rainy Sunday after driving around and visiting Black Chasm. It was quiet inside as it was about 2:30 p.m., and the fire was lit and cozy. Our waitress was wonderful and the food great. I would recommend the salad (parm, marinated/pickled sweet peppers), but suggest asking for dressing on the side. I will say, the ordering at the counter isn't ideal, but it wasn't a big deal for us. It's a pub, so I would expect to do it that way. So refreshing to be serviced by attentive, sweet, down-to-earth people. Kaylee was our "server" & she was SO good. The chef/manager even came by our table to touch base on how everything was. Can't say enough good things about this little gem in Volcano, CA. We were there for a romantic weekend-again! The staff especially stands out for me--friendly, attentive and more than happy to help make your stay wonderful. We've stayed in the Limon room all three times we've visited--because--the tub! It also has direct access to the balcony, which is great for enjoying an evening glass of wine or morning coffee while watching Volcano go by. Bring your earplugs, however, as with all old buildings, there is not much between you and the restaurant noise one floor down. We also find an eyemask to be useful as we are not accustomed to light from street lamps at night. The food is great with a nice selection and specials that really add to the menu. Again--the staff is top notch as well. Overall, you can't go wrong at the Union Inn and Pub! read more

We had a great overnight stay at the Volcano Inn + Pub, great room and super comfortable bed. Had dinner there as well, and the food was stellar thanks to talented chef and super nice guy, Erik Guttierez who came to our table to say hello; I had the seared housemade gnocchi, and my husband had the seared salmon, both dishes were outstanding; we topped these off with the unexpected and delicious basque cake and horchata ice cream. Shared the Volcano Union Inn & Pub with friends. The town itself is well worth exploring despite its small size (about 1/2 block for the business district) It has an interesting history including the longest continuously operated small grocery store west of the Mississippi. The Inn is more recent and has a warm vibe. Service was immediate and friendly. Local wines and beers are also featured. The menu offered burgers, meatloaf, a delicious seared cod, a special Mac & cheese and more. We did not have a waiter, rather we went to the bar area to order. Staff was helpful and checked in with our table. We were all happy with our meals. While a bit off the beaten path, the Inn provides a great place to hang out, share stories and grab a bite. I do not often review restaurants. When I do it is rare that I give five stars. Volcano Union Inn earns a five star rating. Enjoyed a lunch on the beautiful landscaped patio. Eric the chef and manager came out to speak with us. He explained that his business uses only fresh local product and produce. He was not exaggerating. I started with the pickeled vegetables and they were abolutely awesome. Fresh and unique. I also tried the heirloom tomato salad and the fried chicken sandwich. The chicken had been brined overnight and Eric created the best breading I have ever had for any fried chicken. Lite and tasty. Enjoyed a local Rose with my meal. All in all, this was not just a meal. It was a fabulous experience in a small gold rush town. I highly recommend Volcano Union Inn. read more

This place is a hidden gem. We have lived in the area for around a year now and wish we had discovered this spot much sooner! Staff is friendly and the food is amazing! By far the best food in the area. Very cozy inside and they have a beautifully decorated outdoor patio area that is dog friendly, which is a plus for us! Stayed here on a Thursday - Saturday with my partner. I must say this place is nestled in a tiny town called Volcano. Although there might not be too much to do there, there are places that are driveable. From the check in until the check out, it was very easy and accessible. All rooms are located upstairs and there is a flight of stairs you need to use. (Not really disabled friendly); Our room (Terra Cota), was very clean and well maintained. Others would think that the room would be outdated...but that's not the case! The room goes with the rustic outdoorsy feeling. The only issue i came into was the shower; eventhough the tub was big, the shower curtain wraps around the inside of the tub; every twist and turn, the curtain would stick to my skin which gets annoying. The king size bed was very very comfy. Hadnt slept that good in weeks! Did I mention, breakfast was included each morning! Delicious is all I can say. Eventhough, the bar/pub was downstairs, I didn't come across alot of loud noise so that's good. Overall, would definitely come back. read more

Food was great! Loved the Ambience! My husband reserved a table for my birthday and we got the stone table. They also allow dogs. We have two. One is giant and afraid of people, so it was really awesome having some space. The system is really unclear and needs improvement. You order your food and drinks, which is fine, but a bit annoying if you need to add anything. My husband waited in line four times instead of spending time with us. They keep an open tab for you. The server said she could do refills, but we had to go wait in line to order any additional drinks. This lead me to believe that refills were free. My husband waited a while to get me a drink after our original order. My kids got a can or bottle in addition to their drink. When mine came it was just in a glass, no additional can. No biggie, thought maybe it's something they do for kids. Then I asked for a refill and I received a glass and can. After my husband paid he informed me that we were charged an additional $3 for a refill that I barely drank. It's just $3, but I'm really annoyed by it to be honest. Especially since I wouldn't have needed a refill if I had gotten the can with my first drink. Why can they add to the tab for a refill and not a drink in the first place? I was essentially changed double. I did think the people working there were incredibly sweet. But I have to admit, I've been really hung up on this extra charge and wondering if the server was making things difficult by choice or if the system is as nonsensical as it seems. read more

Holy cow the food here is amazing. The burgers are big, juicy, and perfectly tender. Could be one of the best burgers I've ever had. All the food is well prepared with fresh ingredients. I had an ice cream sundae for dessert that was delicious. Good selection of local wines. Service is super friendly and welcoming. You order inside and they bring food out to you. But the most frustrating part is that you're paying high end prices for deli counter service. You literally have to place your $50 entree order and drink order at a counter and runners bring it to you. You do NOT have a server, but they ask for full service tip. Delightful!!! What a darling little town and by little I mean less than 200 residents. A friend and I stopped by the Volcano Union Inn primarily out of curiosity. I wasn't sure where the entrance was so we went to what appeared to be the back back patio. This was a darling little outside space with plants and trees and lights and outside heaters. Big enough to accommodate roughly 40 people. We were promptly greeted by Eric the cook, bartender, and manager. He was helpful and had a very welcoming and friendly attitude. I decided to sit down and stay for a while. We opted to sit outside on the patio and have appetizers. The salmon Avocado toast was delicious! And the Korean Tacos were wonderful. We had the lemon creme brulee that was the most delicious creme brulee I've ever had. Although it was gone before I had a chance to take a picture opsies. I guess I will to have to go back. Tehehe The atmosphere was so great. Everyone seemed very pleasant and happy to be there. I didn't see any of the rooms from the inside but I did go upstairs to take a sneak peek. We have enjoyed several lunches and dinners at the union as we travel through to wine country, but finally decided to take advantage of the bed-and-breakfast. We stayed in the terra-cotta room, which was clean and spacious. The doors open up to the balcony where we enjoyed a glass of wine and played a board game with friends who were also staying. Heather was our chef and server both mornings, which was no problem because they are not open to the public for breakfast and there are only four rooms, so she totally handled it. Everything that came out of the kitchen was homemade. She would describe each item as it was delivered to the table and you could sense her love for culinary art. Yelp reviews rarely lead us astray. Unfortunately for the Union Inn, it did. We even asked at another local stop where was a good place to eat. The Union Inn was mentioned. Yelp + local recommendation...must be great! Not so much in our experience. The place is quaint, I'll give it that. It could be a gem in the middle of nowhere, but it's not. The service was good, the food OK at best. Quality / quantity vs. price was not a good fit. The local beer on tap was really good, though! The reception at the restaurant was odd. Saturday just past noon. Maybe four tables with people at them. A host greeted us: "Do you have a reservation?" Seriously? Saturday for lunch at a place with plenty of open tables and we're being asked if we have a reservation? When we replied no, we were asked for a name as if were going to have to wait for a table. The host did some work on a tablet and then asked us to follow her to a table. Not sure why we needed to go through all of that, but whatever...tracking maybe. At least they didn't ask for my social security number and a copy of my last paycheck. Our table for four would have been better suited for two. It seems they want you to be really cozy here. The table was probably 2.5' x 2.5'. Condiment caddy, four water glasses, four drink glasses, utensils, and food plates was a very full table. It was hard to eat without thinking you would knock something off at any minute. The food: prices were higher than they should be especially given the portioning. I got the cauliflower steak (vegetarian). It was actually very tasty. But for $20 I expected more. It's a cauliflower head run through a deli slicer in about 3/4" thick slices. I received 2 slices. A head of cauliflower is $3 in the grocery store; wholesale even less. And I get two slices of that? Meat costs plenty more but my kids' burgers offered more sustenance than my $20 cauliflower plate. The lentils and other veg under the cauliflower weren't getting it to that price level. My wife ordered the grilled veggie sandwich. It's clear that there is a chef working here that has good flavor choices, but plating is in severe need of help. There is no possible way to each this "sandwich" as such. It comes out on a hamburger bun. There is no chance to pick this up. It explodes. The veggies need to not be arranged like a pinwheel. Normal sliced and grilled bread would have held it much better. In the end, she opened everything up, set the bun aside, and ate it like a salad (picture attached). It was tasty...just poor presentation. When the server came by to check up on us, my wife reported her dissatisfaction. The server found it funny to the point of laughing out loud. She quickly realized it wasn't a compliment and left the table. It wasn't enough for a manager or the chef to come by to talk about it though, or maybe the message wasn't passed on. The highlight of the meal was the local IPA that was on draft and the free dessert that we got for checking in on Yelp. In total, $90 including tip (the server was great except for the laughing about a complaint) and one beer. I've spent less on more and I didn't need to be 80 miles from home to do it. read more
