Two old fashions and a pretzel
    Kellee B.

This review is solely based on a recent visit to their bar. I had my first old fashion and it was strong yet crisp and refreshing. It's made with their homemade brown sugar syrup that added a hint of sweetness but make no question, the drink was still bourbon-forward. I enjoyed a humongous Bavarian pretzel with a beer cheese dipping sauce. A perfect start to an evening. Cheers!

Wow!! Such a pleasant surprise. One of the most beautiful old towns maintained and so clean. Arriving to the hotel everybody was so kind and hospitable.. Inside was so gorgeous. The room was beyond our expectations with many added lil touches. We had dinner reservations and they sat 8 of us with great energy and laughs. Steph was new and a wonderful waitress easy to talk to and always going the extra mile. Amazing dishes and the presentation was great. All our food came at the same time and was fresh and prepared just right. I ordered the New York and Shrimp. A wonderful sauce was prepared for the New York and the Shrimp was also presented in an amazing sauce as well. The bartender made all our drinks to our liking. After dinner they went above and beyond allowing us on their beautiful balcony with heaters and a view of old town. Bravo to the Hotel and the Staff. Thank You

Our visit to the Hotel Sutter Restaurant on the Balcony was so spur of the moment and we were very pleased! We visited on Easter of all days and we decided on this place because we were walking by looking for somewhere to eat some lunch and heard the music. It pulled us in and the place was busy! We checked in for a table and they said the wait would be about 20 minutes. We went into the bar to grab a drink while we waited. The staff was very friendly and helped us while we waited. We were shown to our table up on the balcony and they turned on the heater for me. There wasn't much going on due to it being a holiday, but it was still such a pretty and fun setting. We put in our food order and it was very good! We appreciated everything being still on point even though it was a holiday, this made our day extra special.

We stayed at Hotel Sutter several times in preparation for our wedding at The Gardens here in Sutter Creek. We found the rooms to be very relaxing and the renovations gave a modern flare to the bathrooms and were well-done. We saw no flaw in the design and decor, albeit the TV is a bit small if you like to do that at the end of your evening. The rooms are so nice and quiet, and it was absolutely tranquil to sit on the balcony drinking our hot cocoa / tea in the mornings. One of our trips was Valentine's weekend and my husband asked if they could put flowers in our room to surprise me. They were able to accommodate his request for a small fee. I was so surprised and touched when I saw the bouquet when we checked in! The only downside was that I'm very allergic to a specific type of flower and the florist still included that flower in the bouquet, even though my husband advised them of my allergy in advance. I did have an allergic reaction (couldn't breathe), but the hotel was very apologetic and they did refund the fee due to the error. We think it was an honest mistake on the florist's behalf and not the hotel's fault, plus we really appreciated the hotel's genuine response to the mistake, so this is not going to impact our decision to stay here in the future - because we definitely will. I think it is just a testament to their customer service focus that they handled it so well. We also had a lot of fun going to the hotel's Copper Room where we had mixed drinks and charcuterie in this really moody, speakeasy vibe basement. All of the things on the charcuterie board were really tasty and we liked the unique lemonade. The service was also excellent. It was honestly such an amazing experience that we will definitely return for anniversaries! We did speak to the hotel special event admin about guest blocks for our wedding and we really liked the features they offered. They have a gathering area in the hotel and they offer a complimentary shuttle bus to The Gardens for hotel blocks of a certain size. Our wedding was so small that we ultimately didn't do it, but we definitely would have if we had a larger wedding! We also ate at the restaurant several times and the food was incredible. I can't really pick one specific dish that stood out above the others because all of the food we had was so good, but I did have the onion rings, steak salad, burger, and a few other things, and it was all delicious. Plus, our server saw that we were trying to take a selfie one time and was nice enough to offer to take photos for us. Everyone at Hotel Sutter was just so nice to us and we had so many great experiences that we can't wait to come back!

Today my wife & I had the munchies and strolled past Hotel Sutter and the chimichurri steak tots caught our attention. We also eyed the Sutter Brussels. Indeed, we ordered both. Service was excellent and we had a nice table with a window street view. The hotel has a great atmosphere and we fun to look around. The Chimichurri Steak Tots are legit! This is a definite repeat order! The Sutter Brussels were good too . . . but those tots stole the show. Definitely a place to visit & check out in Sutter Creek!

Each room at the inn (14 rooms total) are different. The website shows pictures of each room so I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. I knew I did not want a swinging bed so we went with John's room. They tell you to park on the street and come to the front office to check in and then they show you where to park. On a Friday afternoon the street is pretty full and the spaces are very tight, but we did find a space. When you get to the house, there is no office or any place to go. You press the ring camera and someone walks from behind the house out to greet you. The gentleman walks you to your room and the key (on a large keychain) is hanging in the door. He walks you in and tells you a little bit about the room. In our case he showed us how to use the fire, the mini-split (Heating / HVAC) and where to park. The parking lot is behind the Inn and it is very small. It does not have 14 spaces, and if it is full you have to try and find parking in the alley. Because of this we decided not to move as we were able to park in the lot and we were scared to lose parking. When we took ourbags to the room, I realized that there is very little counter or storage space, not only in the room but in the bathroom as well. In the bathroom you have very little space to put your items. The "closet" that has no door is also very small. The head of the bed is about 4 feet from the toilet and you are looking right at it. The bathroom is pretty old and very pink. The towels are not very soft but the water did get hot pretty quickly. The bed itself is very uncomfortable. The mattress is very hard and every time one of you moves you both feel it. We did not sleep well either night. In this room, there was a mini keurig coffee machine and they provided coffee and creamers. There is also a small mini fridge. There are 2 chairs in front of the fireplace and a chair and small couch at the end of the bed. There are also a lot of books. With all of these things in the room, there is very little walking space and from the other side of the bed to get to the bathroom (especially in the dark) is like an obstacle course to not stub your toes or knees. The property is very quiet and there is an ice machine outside by the front lawn. However there is no breakfast or food available at the Inn. I really was hoping to have a great time, but by Saturday afternoon we were ready to leave. I just did not want to be there anymore. My husband convinced me to stay as we already had dinner reservations for that night, so we did. When you leave, you place the key outisde in the door handle and leave the property.

It is very well appointed and the owner did not skimp on the appointments. The sheets are at least 600 thread and the house is fully stocked. I found this gem on Air BNB and the owner, Robert, was very patient and accommodating with me. And let me tell y'all that I can be a pill when making business deals. So I looked for a place near Jackson, CA a month ago because I knew I was going to be on assignment there for a week. I did not want to stay in a hotel because I love being home and since I could not travel back and forth to my house in Sac, I decided to get me a place where I could at least cook when I wanted to and take a long, hot shower at my leisure. And I did not want to be looking for a wireless signal through the walls of a hotel. Bottom line I wanted my own space bigger than a postage stamp. So I looked at a few places and settled on The Bungalow because it looked cute and rustic and was 10 steps away from downtown & Main Street. From the beginning Robert was VERY responsive. He was also two things that are a challenge to be with me--PATIENT & ACCOMMODATING. I asked questions from the beginning about where the house was, what was provided, what was included, and could I get a reduced rate because I was staying a whole week. He patiently answered all my questions and then went on to accommodate me by telling me about the city/town where I would be staying. He also relayed that I would be the first one to stay in the house and that I could check in early and check out late if need be. Also, he gave me a rate! So I kept in touch but did not book. A week before I was due to come out I texted Robert about booking. He was PATIENT & ACCOMMODATING again and was very amenable to my terms. I even added a guest at the last minute and it was not a problem. I did; however, change my check in time and wanted to arrive early. He accommodated that as well but told me he would be in San Francisco and would leave the key for me at his Inn. I booked and it charged me the full rate. I contacted Robert to let him know and he graciously worked out the kinks as we were both new to Air BNB. He asked me to give him time and what else could I be but PATIENT & ACCOMMODATING y'all! Great, great guy. So I get to the house and it is cute. Perfectly represented online but no key. I went to the Inn and it was not there either. Turns out that the housekeeper had left the key in the house and the back door open for me. No worries. Get to the house again and Amazing it was! Beautiful. Robert calls on the house line to make sure I am good and that did it for me. The only reason I have not given 5 stars is because there are two ceiling fans in the house that are old and the shakes hard when used. Plus they do not go with the decor of the house. This house is a great mix of modern and antique and it looks great. Ceiling fans are old and seem a little loose but they work. The second bedroom does not have a ceiling fan and could use one as well. What is also awesome about his space is that every last need is catered to. Both showers, oh yes did I mention two en suite bedrooms? Both showers included soaps, shampoos, and conditioners. The kitchen has EVERYTHING! Down to the seasonings for food in the cabinets! The kitchen is fully stocked, even with wine glasses! This is wine country and Robert thought of everything, or Mrs. Robert did I am sure. There are extra towels, a washer and dryer that comes with detergent and bleach y'all! Outdoor seating is provided on the front and back porches and there is private parking for one car in front of the house. One other complaint is that there is no choice to pull a shade down on the front door. The front door is beautiful and has a beautiful glass insert that looks out into the street and you can see in. I had to put up foil to cover it as I like to move around and do not like knowing someone could be on the street seeing me thusly. The Bungalow is so beautifully appointed and well thought out that these few mismatched things are of no issue. It does not come with housekeeping and I am not the type to even want housekeeping when in a hotel. Hence the reason for me wanting a private home. This home is not lived in and is rented and that is a great thing. I love The Bungalow and will be back to explore the town and stay there. Robert has not come over to meet me as of yet but I will make sure that I go and meet him before I leave. Great property, great owner, great week. I will update this review when I leave.

Hotel Sutter Restaurant has been on my list of places to check out in our neck of the woods for a while. We for sure wanted a classy place that served cocktails, and Hotel Sutter fit the bill. Both of us were also craving a good craft burger, and from what I saw in other reviews, the burgers looked delicious. I made a reservation for us on OpenTable just in case, but since it was a weeknight I wasn't too concerned if we had walked in. We were seated nearly immediately, and our server cheerfully asked us what we wanted to drink besides good ole H2O. I was really glad we came to visit around Christmastime, since they were serving holiday cocktails and other beverages. I went with the partridge pear martini, while my husband went with the Santa's spiced cider. My martini was oh so delicious and perfectly strong, and I had a small sip of my husband's cider, which was refreshing with the perfect holiday-esque notes. We read a few mixed reviews on the apps, so went straight to the entrees instead. I chose the bacon jam burger and my husband chose the traveller whiskey burger. Both of us upgraded to the garlic rosemary seasoning. I went with fries and my husband went with tots. Honestly, we were glad that we didn't end up ordering an app, since the burgers themselves were pretty filling! We both asked for medium on the cook temp of our patties, and they delivered. The meat was perfectly juicy with a wonderful charred flavor. The bacon jam was so delicious, and the balsamic arugula paired perfectly with everything. My brioche bun was pillowy and yet did not fall apart with all the juices of the burger. I did not get a chance to try my husband's burger, but he stated that it was also top notch. My fries were piping hot, with a perfect dusting of garlic rosemary flavor and sprinkles of Parmesan cheese. I tried a tot and that was also delightfully crispy and flavorful. We asked for ranch and that went well with both sides. The ketchup was great as well. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. Old buildings are always up my alley, and the rich history of Hotel Sutter can truly be felt simply by touching its brick walls (that is, if you believe in the spirit realm). I loved that each table had its own light, but the restaurant had the perfect dim setting for a classy date night. Our server was very friendly and attentive, and kept our waters refilled. We had a concern regarding the pricing of the cider on the bill vs on the menu and that was fixed immediately, with the rest of the staff notified for future reference. It was a tiny discrepancy, but one that we caught quickly and simply wanted to bring up. Hotel Sutter Restaurant is definitely on our places to return to in the future, and I'd love to sit on the balcony some other time and enjoy some brunch and mimosas. If you're looking for an excuse for date night or are just feeling fancy, definitely come relax, sip some delicious cocktails, and enjoy the delicious food Hotel Sutter Restaurant has to offer!
