I was so blown away by how amazing this hotel was. The hotel itself is super cute. Each room is unique in its own way. You cannot beat the location for easy walking access to everything (places to eat, good shopping, wine tasting, etc). But I really want to take a moment here to mention the excellent level of service that we received from the main concierge lady, Shanna. Shanna from the moment that we arrived in the hotel lobby to the moment we left you truly made all of us feel special. No question was unanswered, all recommendations by you were amazing, and you made us feel like you were our friend for a long time. Perfect location to explore the area and very friendly interactions our entire stay. Plans fell through elsewhere last minute and we found this gem. It was quiet, clean, and the front desk/maintenance guy was very welcoming. Our first time in this area so they also provided a lot of tips on where to go and what to do to make the most of our 3 days here. Rooms are small but the bathroom was huge and bed comfortable.There was a difference in what booking.com said our rate would be and what we were actually charged it was a $50 difference. I got a groupon for a double bed room and I had a great stay here with my boyfriend. The only setback was that most (if not 95%) of the wine rooms are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays! So if you are planning to do some wine tastings here, do not book your stay on Tuesday or Wednesday. There are a lot of wine rooms within walking distance from the hotel, so you don't have to travel far. Most of the tastings are $5-$10, very reasonable. Otherwise the room is very clean. It is a bit small but the bathroom is surprisingly roomy. The bottle of wine that came with the groupon was the size of a water bottle, so that was a bit disappointing. Most nearby shops seem to close after 5pm so make sure you have all the snacks/food/drinks you need! I advise stopping by a market beforehand to pick up these things. Drinks at the cellar are pretty cheap, their happy hour is Monday to Friday 3-6pm with $3 draft, well drinks, and $4 house wines I believe. They also have taco and trivial night on Tuesdays. But I think the cellar is only open Tuesday, Friday through Sunday. read more

Made a Valentines Day reservation at the last minute and although it was a little later in the evening, the visit was great. Food was right on the money as far as quality and value. The night started great in Sutter creek, as we drove through the town we saw Hotel Sutter and their menu and said why not give it a shot. We get seated which was fast and we talk till we ordered food which was also fast the menu is pretty small but after we order we didn't get checked on once and the busser did more work then the waitress. As we are waiting for dinner which took about 30 mins, we are waiting talking about events in the day. the host walks in the dining room and has an eclectic fly swatter and started chasing flys around the customers and watching the customers everyone was uncomfortable. My wife and I were honestly grossed out and not wanting to eat at the point. Finally food comes and the busser brings us the food and checks on us, and yet the waitress still hasn't checked on us. And we order burgers when we are unsure about organizations because its hard to mess it up. Honestly I could have gone to a diner and been satisfied. We finish and I felt disappointed and we are now waiting for the check and our waitress and hour and half later said " they said your food is almost done " even though we just ate after I asked for a check and it took 20 mins just for a check. This place is terrible! I would never recommend staying here the staff are the rudest individuals I have ever met in my life. We came with a group of 12 an the treated us horribly. The waitresses were not able to comprehend the simplest drink orders. No one knew who had the table. Because the waitress was young and didn't know how to order cocktails we had to send multiple orders back. She got frustrated that we sent them back an told the manager to cut us off on our first drink. Later in the evening the night clerk was even ruder. I came downstairs wanting to purchase water and he said "don't you people sleep". We came here for behind cellar doors but I'll never return to this hotel. For nearly 300 dollars a night I'd rather sleep in my truck than deal with the staff of idiots here. read more

Stayed here last week with a few friends and had a lovely experience!! The hotel itself is old but has so much charm! The rooms (we had a queen) were cute/bed super comfy and the bathrooms were huge and looked recently updated. The staff (STEVEEEEE and the front desk lady I did not get her name) were super friendly and accommodating. I have a few diet restrictions and they were nice enough to let me know I could leave some of my own food in their restaurant fridge if need be. Luckily, it wasn't necessary because the kitchen was more than happy to adjust some of their meals to fit my diet. Had the lamb with Brussels sprouts and rice. It was delicious! Trivia with Steve in the Cellar was a blast along with the very nice bar tender. Sutter Creek is such a cute old time town. However, we went on a Tuesday/Wednesday and not much was open. Still enjoyed our time and will definitely be back to Hotel Sutter. read more

What a nightmare... One of the local wineries recommended this place for a quick lunch before we left town. We were hungry, so we quickly agreed! The building/environment is beautiful, so I have to assume the hotel side of the house is better than the restaurant (or at least I HOPE!). Before getting into the food, let's talk about the waiter - really strange guy! He seemed stoned and complete unaware of his surroundings... Not impressed! My girlfriend and I both ordered burgers - I ordered mine medium and she ordered hers well done. When the burgers arrived, we were so excited given how hungry we were. Since the burger was so big, I ate it with a knife and fork and started chomping away. As I started to get through the first few bites, I noticed the taste was becoming strange. I looked down to notice that the middle of my burger was COMPLETELY RAW. I put my finger into the center of it and it was COLD and slimy. I was so disgusted by the raw meat on my plate and it immediately made me and my girlfriend lose our appetite. I told the waiter about the raw meat and he looked at it and said "Oh yeah.. That's completely raw" and took it back. He handled it really well, but came back with a check with a $5 discount on it instead of comping the RAW BURGER. Unbelievable. Hoping for romance we got a window table for dining The upside. Wine list was good. Tiger prawn dish was so so good! Subtle but distinct flavors in the risotto under perfectly cooked shrimp. Just killer. Bread was good. Table was good The middle. Wait staff seemed confused as to who was serving. First person seemed like, "Can I take your order before I can get the f out of here?" Zero knowledge of wine. Nice tho. Then another server seemed to come over and asked for our order. She assured us she was staying longer, so ...good. Overall decent service but felt a little like they wanted to leave. The bad. Don't order the NY strip steak. It was just sad. A thin piece of low quality meat, overcooked. Which is what happens when you cook thin bad steak. I got the feeling that a good cook was working with bad meat. And I eat beef only for special occasions so I had this sad piece packed for kid or dog lunch later. Not even close to to worth it. Like Outback Steakhouse bad. My wife has had several good lunches and her friends rave about the burger. If I go again, I'll get that or the amazing shrimp. read more

So here's the thing... I have been here a couple of times now and the first time was good but the second time we had some issues. Could have just been a bad day but reading some of these other reviews it might not be.The ambiance is nice. The open bay window in the front lets a nice breeze come in. So that was nice. Our waiter was all over the place and two of our orders came back wrong; Once corrected, the food was good. I had a salmon filet that was cooked well and and i enjoyed it. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. Just the sketchy service. My mom and step dad live in Pioneer so we occasionally go here when we visit so its not like this is a weekly visit for me. Hotel: Rooms are sturdy with thick walls, but kinda weird. Almost like someone was murdered in the rooms (randomly bright colored walls, Red Lights in the bathroom). Construction at 830am on a Saturday, but they told us about this before hand. However, the real kicker was that this Hotel does not operate before 7:30am! No one at the front, no coffee out, and you will get locked out if you happen to leave. This happened to us and we had to wake up the manager to get back inside! Actually we found out that the town of Sutters Creek is pretty much non-functioning before 7:30! Food: Our Chicken Caprese was very overcooked and our pork was overcooked. Quinoa Salad was bland. My seafood pasta was decent, but nothing special. The only saving grace was that the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Nonetheless, we will be bringing a group back in May, and we wont be staying at the Hotel Sutter. read more

Went here yesterday for Valentine's Day. Not to the actual restaurant itself but the bar side of the hotel on the upper floor with the deck that overlooks the street. Beautiful perfect setting for Valentine's Day but I have to say literally the worst service I have ever had at any place ever. It not only took us 35 minutes for a drink. But after a long waiting not even receiving our appetizer, One hour and a half of waiting just to find out that you're orders were mistakingly not even put in. Went down to the bar after 30 minutes waiting for a drink to get a drink and the bartender was nowhere to be found. Once I found the bartender Took me 10 minutes waiting down there with nobody in line just to get the drink. I simply asked the server which showed up at the bar if my drinks were up there she stated yes so I went back upstairs with only one drank only to find out the other drink had not yet arrived so she lied in front of every one working there just to place them and look better I guess. So after an hour and a half a horrible service had to walk out and go across the street to Cabana's where we were served our drinks and food and less than 30 minutes for everything. This is a place I will never recommend this is the most an organized and professional place I have been. This place for perfect for tourists because they have no idea what they're getting into. I own multiple businesses myself this place needs a whole renovation someone to be in charge. As of right now I would never recommend this place to anyone. Can you imagine your three-year-old child having to wait an hour and a half just do not get any of their food not even appetizers hopefully this place to get their stuff together before summer time comes because it is horrible! read more

Hotel Sutter (once Belotti's) has undergone a major renovation, and it's all for the good. The result of all the painting, carpentry and reconfiguration is a pleasant, cozy dining atmosphere without loss of the history of the place. There is also a lovely basement sports bar that I'm dying to try out in the near future. The ribeye steak we had was juicy, thick, and prepared nicely. We asked about gluten free options and were told that the kitchen even had gluten free pasta on hand. (Woohoo! Now we can look forward to dining out more often!) The service was great and the people were friendly. A return visit on a Saturday night showed the improvements are popular, as the restaurant had a half hour wait to be seated. Reservations are recommended, but there are ample areas to wait until a table is ready. I'm looking forward to our next visit. Update: No longer useful for people with allergies. Although there are still codes at the bottom of the menu for vegetarian, gluten-free, etc, there are no dishes listed as gluten-free and only one appetizer listed as vegetarian. I believe that the short ribs that we so enjoyed are, in fact, gluten-free, but on 2 occasions we went in and were solemnly told that the dish was not gluten-free because "it is served with potatoes." Aside from the demonstrated ignorance, no offer was made to serve the short ribs in an alternate way. Sadly, no longer an option for our local dining. read more

We stayed the night at the Hotel Sutter this past Thursday and had a great time.  We had a room with a double bed and the wife and I found it very cozy.  The room was clean and everything worked fine - good coffee provided.  You have to check out the newly renovated Copper Room that is underneath the Hotel Sutter.  There was live music by a solo guitarist named Jimmy and he was awesome.  The food and drinks were great.  We had the giant pretzel and brussel sprouts.  All we can say is the food was incredibly good.  The hotel staff and barters were friendly and provided great customer service.  We hadn't been to Sutter Creek since 2019 and the town sure has grown up in a good way.  We will definitely be back for a visit and highly recommend staying at the Hotel Sutter and checking out the Copper Room. read more

Loved Hotel. Complaint lies w/restaurant. As Hotel Guests, my husband and I were sitting across the street and noticed two vacant tables in the outside dining area thought it would be nice to have a bite to eat and a cocktail so I went in and inquired. I was told those tables are reserved. I asked what time was the reservation and they said well the people are already here they just went up to the room to get a bottle of wine and their belongings are on the table. 25 minutes later no one appeared at the table so I went back in and inquired I got the same answer they went back to the room to get a bottle of wine. I then proceeded to ask how long does it take them to get a bottle of wine & return to their table, and I want to see their personal belongings on that table. The manager reluctantly and rudely took me upstairs and there was not one personal item belonging to anyone on either one of those vacant tables but yet they stuck to their story and would not seat us there. Over an hour went by and those tables were not filled so I was lied to there was no reservation or if there was it was some bigwig in town who could have a table saved for three or four hours and paying hotel guests can buy dirt. I do not like being treated like a second-class citizen nor do I like after paying a lot of money to stay there & be treated like a second-class citizen. They also sent us to the hotel desk clerk to clear up the matter and she rudely said I don't know why they're sending you to me I have nothing to do with it which I agree but she did not have to be so rude. Personally I love the hotel but I would not give them the satisfaction of dining in their restaurant they lied & they were rude and I caught them in every single lie and they still continued to stick to their story. read more

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Sutter for one night for my birthday weekend and we absolutely loved it! The rooms were clean and updated, the bathroom is modern, the staffs were friendly and welcoming. The hotel is walking distance to about 10-12 wine bars (if I counted it right), unfortunately I was not able to enjoy any alcoholic beverages as I am pregnant but my husband enjoyed a few drinks. We also had dinner at the Sutter Restaurant and it was delish! I had the salmon and my husband had the rib eye steak. The only draw back is that the town is so small that most businesses closes at 8pm which wasn't a biggie, we weren't there to party, we were there to spend time together and enjoy a relaxing night. We ended up hanging out at the bar and the bartender was very accommodating. I also would like to mention that a very nice gentleman (he either works there or he manages the place or he may be the owner!), maybe between the age of 40-50, also led us to the 2nd floor balcony. He told us we can hang out there and bring our drinks and food but just take the glasses and plates back to our room and not to leave it outside after we're done (that's all he asked of us). We thought that was so nice of him to let us know that there is another area we can hang out. Although we didn't get a chance to sit at the balcony, it's very nice to know that we can sit there at night (or day time) to hang out. Maybe the next time we go back, we'll pack some snacks and few drinks and sit there and people watch. I highly recommend staying at Hotel Sutter for a relaxing weekend getaway. read more

The staff at the front desk were so accommodating and the hotel manager took time out of his morning to chat with my husband and I and give us a little history on the town. Last but not least our dinner last night on the balcony was delicious and our server was great! We will definitely return. My husband and I visited Sutter Creek for the first time this past Saturday with his co-workers. His company was generous enough to pay for our stay, but because the party was so large a few of us had to stay at the Sutter Inn a few blocks away. I wish we had the opportunity to stay at Hotel Sutter since it was absolutely adorable. We watched Football at The Cellar and enjoyed the service from all of the bartenders. The staff came by multiple times to ask if we needed anything, and they were pretty busy. Dinner was served buffet style in their event room (which is gorgeous by the way). The food was delicious, the salad had a hint of sweetness from the dressing which was perfect. The jalapeno bread was my favorite, and I LOVED the brussel sprouts, the salmon was delicious, and the small desserts were just perfect after such a big meal. The winter ice tea they served was super yummy, it wasn't too sweet which I was very happy about. We saw the same staff working on different floors of the hotel, turns out one of their friends purchased the hotel a few months ago and they were helping him out. Now that's what I call a great staff, they were very helpful. One of the staff members gave us her iphone adapter since we left ours at home (we returned it the next day), how sweet of her. I have eaten at places such as Rao's steakhouse, Bouchon, Emril's Fish House, and honestly the food at this little hotel was just as yummy (if not yummier since I'm sure the Chef on their website is probably actually back in the kitchen helping out). (this is for the restaurant only) Had lunch here last weekend, because it was basically the only place in town serving lunch! We were a little hesitant cuz we weren't looking for anything fancy but we tried it anyways. It was actually REALLY good and worth the price! The salmon BLT was delicious, although I didn't really care for the dry toast it was served on. Oh, and the side salad with the homemade basil vinagrette was outstanding! We got a room with 2 double beds, since we had our young kids with us, for a wedding, unfortunately we were placed right above the bar so all we heard was loud music all night! Our wedding party stayed at the Hotel Sutter and the lovely Taylor was our personal concierge. Taylor is first class! She made sure our events went off without a hitch, that the wedding party and guests were taken care of and was present and on her game from beginning to end. The Hotel itself was charming, welcoming and clean. With the bar and restaurant guests could meet and mingle. We utilized the private dining room for the Rehearsal dinner and The Cellar for late night fun. Best of all we loved the second floor balcony where we all congregated for breakfast, drinks etc. We hung out and watched the goings on along Sutter Street - it was a lot of fun. Sutter Creek is quaint and the Hotel is nostalgic. Normally, the restaurant can be acceptable but the menu has changed and choices are limited. Didn't want a burger so ordered a wedge dinner salad. You will receive almost an entire head of lettuce with runny blue cheese dressing which unfortunately has a sour taste. For $15, for lettuce and some bacon bits, I expected better taste and presentation. I did try the $5 French Onion soup which was ok. All in all, I had to go go to McDonald's and spend $3.50 for a burger and iced coffee to quench my hunger. Service was good, as it normally is, but the menu could offer a few more entrees to offset the appetizers, salads and burgers. The restaurant does stay open til 9pm, as advertised, on Fridays, unlike the restaurant across the street that states operating hours then closes arbitrarily when they want. BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION GETAWAY: We had such a WONDERFUL time here!!!!! I can't express how surprisingly delightful our stay was, and we stayed an extra day because it was so great!!! From the moment we arrived into the town, we found this hotel at the center of a quant, cozy, quiet, welcoming core of shops, restaurants, bars, coffee houses, and dessert and treat establishments. We were checked in quickly and with smiling and accommodating service! You get actual hard keys for the rooms on 3 floors. Our room was on the 3rd floor, and the establishment appeared like a home with lots of rooms. Our room was small, but very cozy, and although other reviewers dinged that facet, it's to be expected at places like this. They probably have bigger rooms, but we were happy with our queen bed room. The bed was very comfortable, and had plush bedding with throw blankets for napping. The bathroom appeared updated, with tile floors, and a large shower with glass doors. I wish it had a tub, but it's okay, we didn't ask if tubs were available in any of the rooms. But the shower was big enough for two . They gave us a bottle of complimentary wine, and when we chose to stay another day, and learned it was my birthday, they sent up 2 more bottles of wine. Staff was so friendly. Just know that if you try to call the front desk at night, there might not be an answer, and you might not see anyone downstairs at all ... we learned this when we had a tv issue and tried to call downstairs n walk down to get a resolve. We eventually trouble shooted the problem. When this town shuts down, it shuts dowwwwn lol, so be sure you have everything you need before the streetlights come on . Bring a picnic basket with you like we did, so you have snacks, drinks, water, etc for those late night hunger episodes or snack attacks . Now, the first morning we woke up, Ryan went driving to get us coffee or breakfast somewhere, and instead found this absolutely amazing coffee shop across the street called Choc-O-Latte, where they make specialty coffee and have chocolates and pastries. He came back to the hotel and excitedly told me "get ready, you gave to come with me to this coffee place across the street!"! Even though he already bought us coffee, he wanted to take me there because he knew I'd love it, and he was right!!!! Fran is one of the owners, along with her sister, I apologetically forgot her name, were the most kindest, warm, and accommodating business women I've met in a long time! They immediately became like our old friends!!! We sat and talked with them, and they invited us to a movie later "Girl on a Train," and when they met us there, they gave me a chocolate birthday cake, complete with a candle and matches for Ryan and I to share back at the hotel. I was speechless!! I mean, who does that???!!!!! Seriously!! We were very touched. It definitely left an imprint on our spirits of kindness and love, and also was inspiring and renewed our idea that there are still good and amazing people in the world. When we are busy with life and so much negativity, it's so nice to be slowed down by a kind gesture given by a total stranger that goes above and beyond, making us feel special. They truly bumped up the happy and warm fuzzy frequency!! Now, that being said, they also have the best coffee, house made pastries and chocolates. Omg trust me, from truffles to biscotti, quiche and pecan cinnamon rolls, and chocolate covered fresh marshmallows. You MUST try their treats and coffee!! Fran made me a perfect Latte that had me going all day!! Mmmmm. We are definitely coffee connoisseurs, and we are already missing their coffee!! So much so, we ordered some Chocolate Fish Coffee to be sent to our home ! Next is the Sutter Restaurant - After discussing town options, and having a recent disappointing experience at a hotel restaurant we were staying at, we decided to go ahead and give this onsite restaurant a chance despite mixed Yelp and other reviews. But we were pleasantly surprised I had the Mac & Cheese with chicken, which came with an interesting orange butter sauce on the side that added an interesting flavor, and was al dente, comforting, and delicious. It was definitely grown & sexy M&C. I also ordered the Bacon Brussel Sprouts, and they were the best I've had at a restaurant. Truthfully, I could've just ordered those and been full!! They were not cheap with the bacon either. Ryan had the The First Responder Burger, a double patty with cheese, and it was huge. Although we had to send it back twice because he ordered it Medium and it came far too bloody Rare, they got it right the last time. He tried to just deal with it, but he couldn't because he felt it was like eating raw meat. We kindly presented the issue, and our waitress was apologetic and gracious both times. Aside from that, he said it was delicious. I tasted a piece of the meat, and it had a delicious smokey grilled flavor, but that's all I could handle after my entree. read more

Our group of 6 booked three rooms for our wine weekend holiday get away (Happy Birthday America!). The rooms were all the same as far as booking rates, but were all completely unique (not to mention clean and comfortable). The feeling is really that of the 1800's - just like the rest of town. The staff was friendly and courteous. They don't have a bell hop - so with the hubby's back being "sensitive" as he would say, it was completely unexpected to have two nice men from the restaurant assist us with our luggage. Next time we're bringing the whole group and taking advantage of the shuttle. read more

This is confusing because there's another site called Hotel Sutter Restaurant so if you want to see all the reviews you'll have to check that one too. I reviewed it when it first reopened and somehow the owners response seems to have gotten attached to this one. Anyway, we still find it a good place for lunch or dinner, but I wish they'd get the locals card going, in which case we'd probably go more often. Today the steak sandwich was good, except for the salad dressing (1000 Island) which seemed bottled and not too good. The fish and chips were good except for the slaw which was soggy. Don't stay here this place is the actual worst! Micro bar of soap. Blonde girls that are rude at the front deak. Food is mediocre at best and super expensive. The rooms are horrible. Got the room on the balcony; had to keep the shade drawn for privacy (room is really dark) and had to listen to the noise on the balcony and that coming up from the bar into the wee hours. The staff is extremely friendly, the bar and restaurant are not bad either, the rooms are very clean and well kept. This is a very cool and old building, the management has done their best to modernize the facility while keeping the old charm intact. Here are the issues we had. First, there are 12 parking spaces for the white hotel/bar/ restaurant, so we had to park on the street 2 blocks away. There were no toiletries in the bathroom. The third floor had an issue with the AC where it does not work whenever it gets really hot. On a day where the temp was 100 deg the AC in our room stopped working. To be fair the staff was very caring about the situation and according to them they did everything they could, but anyone who could fix the issue was not responding to their calls. I would expect a hotel this size to have emergency maintenance personnel on call. We were told to open the windows, unfortunately they only open 3 inches, so it did not let enough air into the room. I wish I could give this hotel a higher rating but due to these major issues I just cannot. read more

Worst Restaurant In Sutter Creek After several bad experiences here my wife and I gave this place another try this last Saturday. We wanted to go to Buffalo Chips (I wish we did) but they were super busy. So we went to Hotel Sutter to get a simple burger. Right off the bat the service was super slow. Sat there for nearly 30 min before someone came to even take our drink order (mind you it was not busy). We both ordered the Cal Fire Burger, we wait another 30 min or so to get our food. Both of our burgers were so badly over cooked, all you could taste was the char on the patty. I was hungry and tried to eat anyway in spite of how bitter it was. But after a few bites it was just too overpowering with bitter char taste. Because these burgers were $16 each, I expected that they would be at least decent, but that was not the case. When the server saw the mostly uneaten food on both of our plates he asked how everything was and I told them it was way over cooked. He saw the patty and agreed. I did not ask to have them taken off our bill because I wanted to see how they would handle this matter. As expected I received a bill for full cost of all the food. However, they did offer us if we wanted to split a desert "on the house". We declined. Save yourself the time and money and try any other restaurant on main street. Yes, hotel Sutter looks the best from the outside, but the food will be a major disappointment (as well as pricey). Ask any local to the area, they will tell you the same. read more

Wish I had read the reviews first. A friend was visiting from the Bay Area and wanted to take her to a place we had enjoyed before. Well WRONG!! HORRIBLE.....we ordered the chicken club, unbelievable. No condiments, 1 small piece of chicken, get more at a fast food place, A sliver of lettuce and 3 small pieces of red onion amongst at least 4 or more pieces of bread.
