We wanted to spend the Valentine's weekend in Sutter Creek as it was also my husband's birhtday. I have had friends visit and thoguht that we would enjoy it. Each room at the inn (14 rooms total) are different. The website shows pictures of each room so I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. I knew I did not want a swinging bed so we went with John's room. They tell you to park on the street and come to the front office to check in and then they show you where to park. On a Friday afternoon the street is pretty full and the spaces are very tight, but we did find a space. When you get to the house, there is no office or any place to go. You press the ring camera and someone walks from behind the house out to greet you. The gentleman walks you to your room and the key (on a large keychain) is hanging in the door. He walks you in and tells you a little bit about the room. In our case he showed us how to use the fire, the mini-split (Heating / HVAC) and where to park. The parking lot is behind the Inn and it is very small. It does not have 14 spaces, and if it is full you have to try and find parking in the alley. Because of this we decided not to move as we were able to park in the lot and we were scared to lose parking. When we took ourbags to the room, I realized that there is very little counter or storage space, not only in the room but in the bathroom as well. In the bathroom you have very little space to put your items. The "closet" that has no door is also very small. The head of the bed is about 4 feet from the toilet and you are looking right at it. The bathroom is pretty old and very pink. The towels are not very soft but the water did get hot pretty quickly. The bed itself is very uncomfortable. The mattress is very hard and every time one of you moves you both feel it. We did not sleep well either night. In this room, there was a mini keurig coffee machine and they provided coffee and creamers. There is also a small mini fridge. There are 2 chairs in front of the fireplace and a chair and small couch at the end of the bed. There are also a lot of books. With all of these things in the room, there is very little walking space and from the other side of the bed to get to the bathroom (especially in the dark) is like an obstacle course to not stub your toes or knees. The property is very quiet and there is an ice machine outside by the front lawn. However there is no breakfast or food available at the Inn. I really was hoping to have a great time, but by Saturday afternoon we were ready to leave. I just did not want to be there anymore. My husband convinced me to stay as we already had dinner reservations for that night, so we did. When you leave, you place the key outisde in the door handle and leave the property. read more

We came to Sutter Creek for a wedding and decided to stay somewhere in the heart of downtown. I looked at a few different places, but this one had both the charm and the piece that I was looking for. We were able to get an early check in, which was wonderful since the wedding was at 3:00. Arianna was extremely friendly and accommodating. The grounds are really nice, with various shaded seating areas, and beautiful flowers. Our room (the woodshed) was so charming, and had everything we needed. The location is great, with super convenient access to shops, restaurants and wine (we had enough time to visit Bella Grace next door, which I highly recommend!) The parking was close without being on the Main Street. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I would have loved to see the main house, but we didn't have access to it. I am not sure if at some point they served breakfast, but that wasn't an option when we stayed, which was kind of a bummer when staying at a Bed and Breakfast. In a world of corporate hotels with blah decor or an over-reliance on hand-painted signs and smiling cows, the Sutter Creek Inn provides thoughtful decor that avoids cutesiness while being homey. I instantly loved my room and the porch outside it as well as the beautiful grounds on the property. The owners have obviously thought about every detail in each room, giving each a unique touch, and my only regret is that I didn't get to stay longer than one night. The customer service was pleasant and professional, and I'd like to give a shout out to Christopher for dealing with my repeated calls while trying to figure out details. Although some reviewers have been dismayed by the lack of breakfast, two restaurants are right across the street from the Inn, and Sutter Creek itself isn't that large. If not having breakfast is keeping you from staying here, then don't hold back. It's easy to find it the next morning. read more

Absolutely the best stay ever! The beds were so comfortable, the room was impeccably clean. The shower and tub were so amazing - so much pressure and lots of hot water! They provided water, tea, coffee, cups, wine glasses and even a big bunch of face wipes in the bathroom. Not only was the room wonderful (Library) but Christopher & Arianna (owners) and their staff went way out of their way to make our stay amazing. The grounds are so beautiful and well kept. We loved the flowers! I would highly recommend the Sutter Creek Inn. A bonus would be the quaint little town it's in and the winery next door! read more

My wife and stayed at Sutter Creek Inn in 2009 and formed a few forever memories--one of which is memorialized in photo form in my Yelp profile picture feed (enjoying wine and olives)--so, when it came time to celebrate our 15th Anniversary we opted to reserve a room there and planned to enjoy some foothill wines. If you are looking to stay at one of the oldest bed n breakfast in California this is the place. The nostalgia of the old furniture, bathroom and design is different. If you ever drive on highway 49 you'll have to stop and visit the cutest little town known as Sutter Creek and stay for the night at Sutter Creek Inn. We slept on a swinging bed and when we laid down on the bed I couldn't stop saying how I had wished we had this type of bed when our children were little because the bed would rock them back to sleep. The Inn is so beautiful. They serve amazing breakfast in the morning. This is a bed and breakfast type of inn. We had never tried a cheesy hash brown casserole before our stay at Sutter Creek Inn. It was so good that now I make it once a week at home. We love when Inns have private cottages that have private entrances and this Inn sure has that. Love the Inn. We received great service from booking the reservation, check-in to check out. When we needed assistance, with parking and luggage, Thomas was right there for us. We stayed in the Storage Room, which has extraordinary artwork and decor. Huge bathroom, tub and shower. Lovely games, books, water and coffee service. Super quiet and serene. We have always stayed at the sutter creek inn and loved it. Last year we went there again. We had to pay a little more, but I was OK with that because we loved this place. When we got there this time we went to check in and the whole house was torn apart, and everything was in boxes. Reconstruction. So there was no bed and breakfast which is why we go there. Just a bed. No warning in advance and no discounts. Very disappointing and sad since this was our anniversary. We recently stayed at this inn with the new inn keepers. They are an amazing couple. Our room was ready early and they allowed us to check in. They prepared the fireplace for our use, had the heat turned on, brought in extra towels and bedding we requested. The room had bottled water and kuerig in the room for our morning coffee. We've stayed at the Sutter Creek Inn twice in a month period during the holidays! Both times were extremely exceptional! Very clean, relaxing and a feeling of being at home! We stayed in the "ToolShed" both times because it has no TV, that allowed us to escape all the craziness and just enjoy our time! While other hotels and inns are bending over backwards to do their best during Covid (and re-emergence of travelers) Sutter Creek Inn locks you out of the main house (whether you're masked or not) and insists that you text them to get them to open your reserved room for you and then beat a hasty retreat so that they have as little interaction with you as possible. You have question/need anything? you have to text them. I've had more interaction and interest from a busboy directing me to a restroom than with this "host". What a disappointment this was after previous stays that were so lovely, welcoming and genial. And cap this off with sketchy internet and no TV in the room (not disclosed:gotcha!). No breakfast in this 'B&B"--not even in a to-go/brown bag option. But at least they charge their regular exorbitant prices. All this in a town of anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers. read more

Cozy B&B with plenty of great rooms to stay. My wife & I came here for a romantic weekend get-away, and stayed in the "Upper Wash House" room. The room was perfect for 2 adults, hot water came quickly, and the furniture was comfortable. Bed was very comfortable and motif was fun too. Looking out from our window we had a nice view, and there are little "easter egg" type things to spot around the place. We saw a giant wooden praying mantis on one of the roof tops! The staff is all very nice and responsive to requests. Breakfast was AMAZING! They serve it family style and there was more than enough to go around. Avacado+egg omelets, ham, fresh fruit, homemade salsa for the omelets... everything was perfect. We would stay here again without hesitation and recommend it to ANYONE going through the area. My wife and I visit northern CA regularly from Chicago for family but we always take one day to come up to Sutter Creek and stay here. We usually stay in the Miner's Cabin when the weather is warm so we can enjoy the private patio. In the winter we like the Carriage House for the nice fireplace and extra space inside. On our first visit I called ahead and requested chocolates and wine to be waiting for us and it was so nice that they did all of it for us. I found out later that good chocolates were not easy for them to find in Sutter Creek but they pulled it off. Made my wife's day! It is a little strange the first time you go since you enter through the back alley but it's worth it. Lindsey is always so wonderful and makes us feel at home. The Bella Grace wine tasting next door is great as is the cheese tasting shop down Main St. It's always a nice one day get away for us. read more

After my events were canceled because of unhealthy air/smoke and along with the fact wineries closed tasting rooms. I called the Sutter Inn and asked if I could cancel because of the issues. They wanted to give me a credit once I asked for my money in full they said they would give me half which is ridiculous based on the smoke and fires. I am sure they have great rooms but how owners handle issues are just as important as a nice room. Another words your true self comes out when challenged and these people can keep my 95 bucks and I am happy that I can mark this place as "places not to stay-- read more

Under THE BEST NEW ownership!!!!!! Excellent Inn with excellent location (located at the heart of the city). It was extremely unique, charming, clean, and comfortable. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff/owners! They are very easy to get in touch with and get right back with any needs you may have. They made our trip more fun with all their advice & tips about the city, shops, restaurants, and bars that are all within walking distance. We stayed in the "Hide Away" room and it was amazing.. We slept like babies in the swinging bed with the cool summer breeze through the windows. Any little spot at the Inn you find (inside or outside) to read, meditate, or enjoy a meal is so serene!!! We walked to the tasting room next door and loved the restaurant directly across the street for breakfast! Would definitely recommend this Inn to everybody! My boyfriend booked us a room to stay here for my 30th birthday. Coincidentally, my birthday falls on the first weekend in October, and unbeknownst to us, we booked during the big crush weekend (we didn't know about it until the week of my birthday...but we will get to that later). He specifically booked a room without a hanging bed because we are both pretty light sleepers and we really had no desire to try the hanging bed. He also repeatedly told them this was a very special occasion (my 30th). About a week ahead of time, he called the inn to make sure they could accommodate my diet, which is mostly vegetarian and sometimes vegan. When he called, a woman answered. Her response was that they could not accommodate me, and at most I could "eat around" anything that I didn't eat. When he tried to tell her my food allergies, she brushed him off curtly and got off the phone. A few hours later she called him back, without any reference to the first call he made earlier that day. She told him they had double booked us on accident, and would be putting us in a different room that cost more per night but we could still pay the lower rate. The alternate room had a hanging bed. When my boyfriend tried to explain that this was a very special occasion and we wanted something with a non-hanging bed, she brushed him off and explained that we had only booked one night and the other party had booked two, therefore we had to move. She further brushed him off by saying that the bed could be lowered to prevent swinging (which isn't really true...but that will come later). Basically, she kept cutting him off and reiterating that because the room we were transferred to cost more than the one he booked, HE should be grateful to HER for messing up our reservation. At this point, the woman's attitude really turned him off. There were a few problems though. 1) She didn't tell us about the room change until we were within our week cancellation window and 2) By the time we were informed of the room change every other hotel or B&B was booked in the Sutter Creek area due to the big crush (we looked at them all). So, reluctantly, we tried to make the best of things and showed up on my birthday to the inn to check in. When we arrived, the younger woman at the front desk (who was very nice throughout our time here, I must say) realized she had just booked someone with my boyfriend's same first name into our room. We proceeded to wait ten or fifteen minutes for her to try to track them down and get them into the right room. She then hurriedly took us to our room (other people had arrived after us so we didn't really hear the times things started and other things she ran through as she showed us to the room). The inn has no info in the rooms with this information so we kind of floundered around trying to remember when breakfast and coffee started. When we got in the room, we immediately noticed that it smelled really musty, and this was with all of the windows and doors open. Further, there was no conditioner (just shampoo) and no hairdryer. The window seat appeared old and dirty, the comforter (which looked like it had been white at one point) looked like it hadn't been washed in years. The curtains in the bathroom were either moldy or just spotted with dirt. And then there was... The hanging bed. We both got nauseous throughout the night due to the fact that with every slight movement, the bed swung uncontrollably. Even when we lowered it, it still swung. At one point, my boyfriend actually went to sleep in the daybed/window seat in order to avoid how unpleasant the bed made him feel. We were also constantly sneezing...probably due to aforementioned mold/mildew issue in the room. In the morning, I went to get us coffee in the kitchen. Both the older woman (presumably the one who had called earlier that week) and the younger woman were cooking breakfast. I finished the creamer (there had been hardly any remaining when I arrived). I turned and told them I'd finished it, so hopefully they could refill before someone else came in for coffee. The older woman curtly and rudely responded in a sarcastic tone, "Gee, thanks a lot." The younger woman smiled and said it was nice of me to let them know. Breakfast was alright. The omelets thankfully didn't have a lot of the foods I am allergic to and I could eat around the meat. The whole experience just kind of put a damper on my birthday celebrations. We continually felt like we were a burden to the staff, and there was none of the hospitality that we both have come to expect when paying a good deal of money to stay in a bed and breakfast. We have previously stayed at Hanford House and for the same amount of money our experience (which wasn't even a special occasion) was infinitely better. Save yourself the hassle and expense and go somewhere else. I hope that no one has a special occasion ruined by this woman at this inn like I did. read more

Stayed in the "Storage Shed Room". Very nice size, cozy, and we loved the swing bed. It takes a little getting used to, after a glass or two of wine it is reminiscent of having the bed spins, but once you get accustomed to the bed "moving" when you sit down on it, it's like a gentle rocking chair and extremely comfortable. Room was very clean and comfortable, but could use some updating. Mostly a 70's era with some 80's updating. Service was a little under what we're used to in the b&b's we stay at (and I travel about 30 weeks a year for business). Arrived at 5:30 on a Sunday and kind of had to hunt down the Inn keeper. Followed the signs & arrows back to the alley, then left to a house, and knocked on a screen door. A little strange. Checking out in the morning was equally bewildering. Breakfast was "ok". Loved the bacon, but didn't have the pancakes or anything that others seem to like (wasn't offered the day we were there apparently). Immediately after breakfast, did the check-out, but was kind of a self-service thing. No inn keeper again, so we left the key on the front desk & left. WiFi was non-existent unfortunately, finally found it in the main house, but was secured and no guest info around with the security password, (and no inn keeper for that matter). Would have liked to stay, but I had to get some work done, so had to get going. read more

What an amazing experience!! The Sutter Creek Inn not only provided an amazing and unique bedding accomodation (a bed suspended by chains), it also supplied a completely singular and sublime breakfast the next morning!!! There was a little "guest story" book inside, where guests are invited to tell the tale of their visit... we did,,, and to my surprise, it seems all of The Sutter Creek Inn's previous visitors had as positive experiences as I (and my date) had enjoyed. Had a wonderful 2 night stay here in the "Storage Room". Room was amazing, very roomy and comfortably fits 4 people. Nicely stocked with games, coffee and water. The grounds are beautiful with lots of nooks to kick back in. The family was gracious and have created a really pretty spot. Will absolutely come back again and again. read more

Booked a room with a fireplace specifically for the ambience, only to be told after check in that the owner has decided to suspend all guest room fireplaces because of the Camp Fire. This wasn't communicated at all until after we had paid for the higher priced room, so I'm a little disappointed. Garden grounds, historical house, and crazy nice modern ADA bathroom with lighted tile tub. Seriously, the lighting was under translucent tile. I've been here 3 times in the past five years and have always loved my stay. Sutter Creek itself is probably the most pleasant place to stay in when visiting the Amador valley, and this inn -- which proclaims itself the first B&B in the West -- is super charming and inviting. The pre-Civil war building and the beautifully kept gardens offer plenty of areas to hang out and relax. The daintiness of the rooms is tempered and tasteful. And I've been delighted by the company of other guests I've met here... either on the grounds or over the delicious breakfast they serve each morning. read more

The Miner's Cabin has it's own little patio, fireplace in the room with seating area and a bathroom. No tv or radio, which was so nice - made for a very relaxing stay! We went next door and bought a bottle of wine and drank it out on the big porch in the evening (right on Main St). The kitchen supplies glasses and a wine opener. Beautiful gardens and little niches here and there. Friendly staff and great homestyle breakfast!! Right on Main St, so you can walk to the nearby restaurants and all the shops downtown. This was our first bed and breakfast experience and we loved it. We stayed in the Miners Cabin. It is rustic, well-maintained and super clean. The private patio was great. The breakfast both mornings was delicious. First morning we had artichoke egg casserole, two kinds of bacon, homemade muffins and peaches picked that morning.
