We recently stayed at Timberline Lodge and was during the same snowstorm when the power was out throughout Arnold. We had lost our car to a tree and made to the Lodge. We had the opposite experience and highly recommend the lodge. The manager and her husband were wonderful and very caring. They saw our Expedia reservation come in even with the power out and helped us get setup quickly. We were so grateful to have a cozy warm room with the gas fireplace stove. There was hot water and the room was perfect. When we had delays leaving the next day because of the snow and no car, they let us take the time we needed to figure things out. The manager's husband saved us in the end and gave us a ride to Murphy's so we could be somewhere with electricity (and food). He was so kind to do that and we won't forget. I kind of like the old timey feel with the wood paneled walls but this motel is right next to the road so the road noise is quite loud. We could also hear people in other rooms when our fan wasn't on. I was surprised that the cups for the coffee are plastic instead of ceramic. This was the only hotel available but I wouldn't stay here again unless I was desperate. read more

This Lodge is so lovely in any season. Cozy and warm with a gas fireplace and comfy JFK rocking chairs. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. The view out the window makes it feel like you're in a treehouse. We are here celebrating my husband's birthday with dinner at Sarafinas. It was a perfect stay. Reading other reviews tells me that there must be large differences between rooms, but I would not recommend mine to anyone. I have never had a room with just one chair and the only place to put it was under the TV which left only the bed for watching. The bed was not comfortable and the pillows were very lumpy. The AC did work but is controlled by a simple switch so we had to keep turning it on and off to try to maintain the temperature. The light switch for the bathroom is on the outside wall which meant you could not use it overnight without lighting up the bedroom and there are no electric outlets so I couldn't plug in my nightlight. The toilet worked fine but I'm pretty sure the seat is original to the lodge. I booked two nights but left after one even though they made it perfectly clear that leaving early meant no refund which made me think leaving early was not unusual. read more

This place has the perfect location in Arnold CA on hwy 4. We were surprised to get a room on a holiday weekend. It's considered a small queen room but it was big enough for the two of us. Picked here to stay for a weekend birthday getaway. This place is beautiful. Room was big and rustic. Had ac(it was a hot weekend so came in handy)Big king bed. TONS of pillows which we were happy about. Lots of places to set your stuff down. Nice faux or real wood? Flooring. Which is super nice not having to worry about carpet cooties lol. Nightstands on each side of bed. Really cool fancy modern sink. Small coffee pot provided. Really close to tons of food choices and a hardware store buying if needed. We literally unloaded our mountain bikes and was able to bike to the Arnold rim trail and logging museum that has a lake. Very reasonable prices which means we will definitely stay here again AND recommend people to stay here! Easy location to lots of lakes and nearby towns. read more

Visiting Arnold is fun but you can be caught without communication and cell service. Luckily when I had to make an emergency phone call I was happily greeted by a lovely lady at the front desk, she was very pleasant and understanding when I asked to borrow the phone to make a couple of calls. We stayed at the lodge at the end of September, and we may have been the only guests on a Monday and Tuesday . Room was clean enough, but a little small . Our biggest complaint was the bed. So soft and squishy , no support at all. Had a cheap foam pad covering the mattress, that was aweful. Almost like they were trying to cover up a crappy mattress. And the other thing. They didn't make up our room while we were gone all day. No fresh towels, no trash taken out, no bed made. And this motel is not cheap either for what you get in the off season. No breakfast, and pretty bad in room coffee. Will not stay again read more

I've been coming to the Timberline Lodge for at least ten years, and during the last four years, it has been my headquarters for writing three murder mysteries centered in this area. The lodge is located on Highway 4, within walking distance of several restaurants and the local dive bar (inside joke). Rooms are very comfortable, heated by a stand-alone gas fireplace, and seeing the flames when the heater comes on is romantic. The owner is charming, and she works to keep the prices reasonable. I honestly didn't know this place was open, I've been coming to Arnold for the past 5 years and stayed in a cabin or at a hotel in Murphy's. I brought my niece up for her birthday weekend and booked two nights here. We checked into room 15, cute room, a queen and a twin bed, perfect for us. At checkin I was told I should have booked directly with the website as it would have been cheaper and I would have more flexibility with the rooms... I usually always use booking.com I think it makes easier to find and compare. Our room was cute, only complaint is the AC which was needed had only and on and off switch and was on full blast, a little fan in the room might have been nice. I didn't want to open the window since we were on a first floor with the walkway in front of our window. I would stay here again, I like that it's affordable. All the AirBnBs add a $175 cleaning fee which makes them about $500 for a weekend, fine if you're with more than two people. read more

The $25 cancellation fee is a joke. Called 2 weeks prior to reservation and had to cancel because of a change of plans and incurred a $25 fee, I was told I should be charged the full cost of the room because we were only staying 1 night. Their cancellation policy is outdated, and a warning should be given stating the fees that will be charged if you cancel at all. I'd really like to know the amount effort that was used to cancel my reservation to substantiate the $25 fee. Their reservation system is also very archaic, I never received any confirmation that my reservation was accepted. read more

Lovely little lodge! Great customer service. I was apart of a wedding party that nearly had the entire lodge booked for the weekend. The lodge offered a great courtyard that allowed us to catch up and meet each other. The rooms were very nice, very clean. I didn't put my placard out to be cleaned because I knew staffing might be an issue and I was staying multiple nights. Was pleasantly surprised to come back to my bed made and fresh towels. I highly recommend this lodge and would be happy to stay here again! read more

I wish I could leave a ZERO. This place has absolutely the worst possible customer service I have ever encountered, even traveling 3rd world countries. I made a reservation. Never received ANY confirmation that the reservation was made. Never received any reminders. When I went to look up my reservation, I did not locate it. I tried to call - no answer. I booked another place, nearby, thinking I may have not finalized the reservation. I saw a charge show up on my credit card, tried to call to see if we can work something out. I was told by a very rude Owner that nothing can be done and the mistake was mine. The hotel never called me to inquire why I did not show up for my stay.. I would not use this place. Local AirBnBs are WAY better - cheaper, better amenities, and MUCH better service. read more

I would not recommend this place to anybody. We asked the front desk if we could have the sheets changed because we were there for 3 days at $600.. the lady looked at us and said "not sure if I have time" when we got back hours later the bed sheets had not been changed. The customer service was awful.. the ladies working there make you feel uncomfortable if you need something or have a question. We stayed for two nights, it was clean and comfortable. We did not need our room serviced on our second day and they were accommodating with a few additional items that we needed. You cannot beat the location, we were so close to Calaveras State Park and we also took a drive up to Bear Valley to look at the snow. We were able to get a last minute reservation here when our rental fell through. The front lobby attendant did request that we get there as soon as possible, so we had to arrive rather quickly, but she got us settled immediately. The room was clean and more modern than I thought it would be. The room was also way larger than I though it would be. Two double beds, shower, separate vanity from the bathroom, coffee pot, mini fridge and a little fire place along with a small table. It was exactly what we needed for the evening and I'd definitely recommend it. Parking can be tricky in the back but they also have a little courtyard. read more

We were purchasing a house in Arnold with another couple and our 4 children and had some unexpected delays taking possession of the home. We were effectively homeless for 3 nights and needed a place to stay quick! Colleen, the owner of the lodge, welcomed us in and took us on a personal tour of the rooms to allow us to select the ones we wanted. She was very accommodating and chatted about the area and gave us some priceless information regarding a local public access Lake we could take our children to the next day to keep them occupied. The rooms were nice and clean and big enough to accommodate our families comfortably. We SO appreciate this place and we will refer any family who comes up to visit us if they need a place to stay. read more

The Timberline Lodge is nestled in Arnold and about a 30 minute drive away from Bear Valley. It's well located across a snow sports rental shop, and Sarafina's Italian Kitchen. The rooms are cozy and warm with a log cabin feel throughout. There's a fireplace, personal fridge, and microwave for convenience. We will be looking forward to our stay on our next trip to Bear Valley. read more

This was a really great place to stay quiet nice rooms for the price helpful staff. Except the food choice was limited the diner bar we went to first was very rude didn't acknowledge us when we walked in. I don't even think they served food it looked more like a regular bar to me with their regular patrons. So the only other choice was pizza. That's it. I stayed here so I could Jeep the Sourgrass Trail up the road. This review is based on my option rather than comparing this place to let's say a proper mainstream hotel. I arrived at 8pm and was met by a friendly and helpful clerk who checked me in and even loaned me a phone charger as I forgot mine at home. I stayed in room #1 which was a corner room with 2 queen beds and a single. The room was quaint, clean, and comfortable. The A/C was loud as all get out and was constantly turning on and off. This was my only negative. This lodge is s small town mountain lodge and was very cute. It's not ultra modern but is well appointed for what it is. I would definitely stay here again. read more

So far so good!!!! First night we had a late check in! My husband book this place and he called in advance mentioned we were coming in late (1am) and we made arrangements.. worked out perfect! My kids about bunk beds from a previous stay and we told them they had to share a bed! But once we checked in there was a twin bed in a cute little nook! And my eldest was ecstatic too take over the twin bed!!!!! I'll edit more later!! Need shut eyes to board tomorrow morning!!! Bed is soft and comfy!!!! Sigh can't wait to sleep! Good for a cheaper alternative than renting a cabin. The family suite stayed really toasty and warm when the temperatures were dipping and the snow was coming down. The front desk lady got us into Sarafina's when we missed our reservation because the snow slowed down our travel time. Overall, a good solid hotel. read more

OK everyone, Arnold isn't exactly the yuppie capital of the world so if you are expecting new construction, modern ambiance and a cookie-cutter chain hotel look, you should probably vacation elsewhere. If you want comfortable beds, nice people, a nice place to sit outside, a good TV with lots of channels, a shower, rocking chairs, and coffee, the Timberline is for you. It isn't modern, but it is clean and functional. You probably aren't going to be hanging around the room anyway because there is so much to do in the area - hiking, kayaking, skiing, fishing, swimming, etc. We really enjoyed our stay here. I was kind of surprised by some of the low ratings. We'll definitely be back! read more

I phoned and made a reservation for 2 nights over Thanksgiving on Sept 29 2014. I phoned Oct 20th to cancel as my husband and I could not make it afterall and was told there is a $ 25.00 cancellation fee. With the Thanksgiving holiday and plenty of time for the lodge to book this room, this "processing fee" is an extra way for these small hotels/lodges to make money unfairly. Read the print on confirmation carefully as they do state this fee, however, this is a completely unnecessary charge they have no business doing. They should rethink this and charge people that don't have the courtesy to phone and cancel as it's possibly lost revenue for them, but cancelling with sufficient notice and still being charged a "processing fee" is a plain ripoff to the consumer. read more

We stayed here one night, got a family room, sleeps 5. The layout was pretty nice, 3 total beds. The gas fireplace ia a nice touch. (Not all rooms have them). Beds were ok, not the most comfortable and made alot of noise when you move ariund, but adequate. Everything was clean. Hwy 4 is right outside, so expect noise. Not terribly bad though. But since room 9 is right on the corner, theres a lot of people walking by, kind of annoying at 730am, when others are still trying to sleep. Front desk and check in is nice, quick and easy. Oh ya, the fire station is just behind, expect to hear them as well. read more

The Lodge is amazing and beautiful! Would give a 5 star but the beds were so hard we couldn't sleep.

Stayed here a couple of years ago, and it was a pleasant stay. My family was camping nearby, and I used the lodge mostly for sleeping and showering, but it was a very comfortable room for my purposes. Today I placed my reservation for this summer, and again it was a very pleasant process. I had to phone it in, as I need a ground-level room. Even though the person was very busy (apparently it's Frog Jump weekend?) she was super sweet and courteous, even apologetic for placing me on hold for less than 2 minutes! The entire process was done in 8 minutes. Can't wait to be there again! read more

There are not many hotels in the Arnold area and this was the cheapest for our trip to Bear Valley in March. When we arrived, there was no one at the front desk to greet us. Around 10-15 minutes, the cleaning lady came in and got the front desk lady for us. (She was busy washing her hair.) The lady was nice and checked us in. We were placed in one of the rooms at the back of the lodge. The room was dark and the lights were not that bright. The TV is tiny and very far from the bed!! (We're use to big TVs.) And the bed is not very comfy. Overall, we would probably stay here again, even after all the complaining, because of the price (2 nights for the price of 1). read more

I stayed in a room with 2 full beds for 2 nights. Everything was clean (rooms made, coffee replenised, etc.. The beds are on the firm side, but fine for a short stay. The room faced the hwy, so you can hear the traffic during busy times (when everyone is heading off of Bear Valley!), but it's not too bad at night. I almost gave the Timberline Lodge 3 stars due to the extremely loud partying from the bar next door, but it's a really convenient place to stay when heading up to Bear Valley. read more

I lived in the area for years and miss it so much that I return each summer for a week or two. I spent wonderful two week there this summer and was lucky to stay at the Timberline Lodge. The room was newly refurbished, comfortable and great for the price. I love staying there and appreciate the amenities and the staff. Great restaurants nearby the the scenery is spectacular.
