This was our second stay at Arnold Meadowmont Lodge. Which is saying something, because it's five and a half hours from our house. We don't even drive five and a half hours to visit some relatives. We found it by accident a few years ago on an anniversary trip and liked it so much that we came all the way back just to stay here again. I love this place because it still has that classic 1960s roadside motor lodge feel. Not the "I hope the plumbing works" kind. More like, "This is what a motor lodge would look like if somebody loved it for the last 60 years." Everything is immaculate. The rooms are spotless, the landscaping looks like every blade of grass had a performance review, and they've got a fire pit and cornhole out back. Which is a game I've played for years and still can't believe that's the name everyone agreed on. The people here are just... nice. And not "hotel nice." Actually nice. We know because, on the way up, we hit a deer. That's not part of the amenities, by the way. Suddenly we're wondering if our car is going to be in the shop for days, and the staff immediately started helping us figure out how to extend our stay if we got stranded. They didn't have to do any of that. They just genuinely wanted to help take one more thing off our plate during a pretty stressful day. Thankfully, we made it home, but that little gesture is the kind of thing you remember. There are plenty of hotels where you sleep. This is one where you feel welcome. My wife and I can't wait to come back. Hopefully next time we'll leave the local wildlife out of the itinerary. read more

We just stayed here last night for the first time. We picked this place because we have a little dog. Yes, it's dog friendly! The lady (didn't get her name but assuming from another review, her name is Heather) who helped us has a dog (black lab) named Bear. Super friendly and accommodating!! Her pup was friendly too. My little chihuahua wasn't sure of him at first but she barked at him and he was very friendly with her. This place is super quiet, has a very cute back patio with a pergola with some nice cushioned seats, a fire pit with seats and more seating. There's a dog run just past the seating area. Good size for the bigger dogs too. The lady (Heather?) even warned us of a small hole that our dog could get through (it's because of the concrete gutter that runs the length of the dog run. Very helpful! In the small lobby they offer some hot coffee, tea, hot apple cider and hot cocoa (even marshmallows!) . For an extra charge, they even have some S'mores to roast by the evening fire pit. The room was nice, clean, and roomy. Even has a fridge and microwave. We will definitely be back!! read more

We had an amazing stay at Meadowmont Lodge in Arnold! Heather and her dog, Bear, were absolutely incredible hosts. Heather truly went above and beyond to make our stay special, doing so many thoughtful things that she didn't have to. She was incredibly kind and even built us a cozy fire so we could enjoy making s'mores in the evening. The lodge is extremely dog-friendly, which was perfect for us. They even have a secure, gated potty area where dogs can safely be off leash. Our husky had the best time playing with Bear, who is one of the sweetest dogs we've ever met. Bear got along wonderfully with our dog and was friendly with every person and dog we saw. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. If you're looking for a welcoming, relaxing, and dog-friendly place to stay in Arnold, Meadowmont Lodge is the perfect choice. We'll definitely be back! read more

I've been a guest at the Meadowmont Lodge in Arnold CA several times over the last several years. I've neglected to review this little jewel. This inn has that reminiscent motor court vibe. And has been there for years. The current owners have lovingly updated the facility to provide comfortable and stylish accommodations. This is not a "fancy" place. But it is a very comfortable warm little piece of Arnold history. The folks that run the lodge are awesome. Almost like family and your just visiting... There's just a comfort there. And there is Bear.. the black lab who greets anyone who will let him... adorable. The facility is spotless. Much cleaner than many "fancy" places I have stayed by far. The location is perfect if you want an amazing get away to nature in the Sierra 2 hours from the Bay Area. Big Trees state park is 5 minutes away and is mind blowing.. largest Sequoias in the world. Alpine lake and big bear 1/2 hour. The Sawgrass campground and river access on the Stanislaus River is 10 minutes. The quaint town of Murphys is 15 minutes. Mercer caverns, the largest cave adventure on the west coast is 15 minutes. There is a grocery store within walking distance, and several outstanding eateries within 10 minutes. Be sure to check out the "Lube Room Bar & Grill" in Dorington, just up the road. Best burgers in Calaveras County and a wonderful outdoor area with a stage - music on the weekends.. Our room was extremely clean, it was quaint, and very quiet. The ladies working there couldn't have been any nicer, and their dog Bear, he's a beautiful, big bear of a dog! Extremely friendly too. Stayed here after the holidays for a last minute getaway! Super easy booking over the phone and we were able to snag a reservation with a small adjoining room to accommodate our two kids. Perfect little Inn right off Rt. 4 in Arnold. This place is walking distance to the main supermarket in town (Big Trees Market), and just across the street from the Snowshoe Brewing company, as well as a block from the Subway, Chinese Restaurant, and a local pharmacy. The Inn itself is small and simple, cute rooms arrayed around a small, central parking lot, and tucked underneath a row of huge old trees. We stayed here in part because it's super close to Calaveras Big Trees, as well as the Arnold Rim Trail. The rooms are comfortable, the shower had nice hot water, and the staff were great in helping us deal with the big snowstorm that hit while we were there. Me and my fiancé found this place on a quick get away without our kids and we wanted to be close to some good hikes and wake up early, this was actually the cheapest too. The place is cozy because everything is close together the rooms are beautiful and the bedding is so nice, it's how you would decorate your own home. Only two other people were here when we got here then by 8pm it seemed to be full, everyone was so friendly! We ordered Chinese from down the street literally walking distance and it was some of the best Chinese I ever had I swear lol. Defiantly will be back now that we know of a reliable place to stay, close to a lot of things to do as well, can't wait to bring our kids here. read more

Stayed here for a brief ski trip. First off, let me start by saying that I love small motels. I grew up with them on various road trips, and after a long day on the road, these roadside inns were a big dose of home and comfort. To sleep on a soft bed with clean sheets and to be able to shower and clean up, is such a fundamental need that we all crave for. Meadowmont Lodge is the quintessential mountain town motel. -Right on the highway, so easy in and out. -All door access is from the outside, which separates motels from hotels. -No frill amenities, which is totally fine for a 1-2 night stay. So motels aren't really designed to lounge in. They're meant to give you a good night's rest and to get you cleaned up so you feel invigorated for the next day. So they're not so plush with couches and large TV screens, a mini bar and room service. For certain outings I am glad to have this choice. What you do get here is a comfy and clean bed. The room is actually one of the more "modern" roadside motels that I've been in. Usually they are a bit out dated, and usually the smaller the town, the truer this will hold up. But this place breaks that stereotype. This place is much closer to a La Quinta or Best Western than it is to a Motel 6, which is super bare bones. And definitely probably the best mom/pop motel that I've been in. There's a small fridge and a microwave which are super conducive to a short trip. There's a Kuerig machine that I didn't use but thought it was a nice touch. The bathrooms aren't super stocked with toiletries like lotion and lavender smelling shampoo, but the towels were stocked and folded like a mega hotel. The bathroom is also small but perfectly so. Just enough room so you can move around without restriction. I hate when doors run into things cuz it's so tiny. Joyce the front office personnel was a breeze and a pleasure to interact with both on the phone and in-person. A strict no smoking policy and pets accepted is another big draw for me. This will now be a go to if staying overnight here on Highway 4. And thanks for maintaining what I've always loved with motel staying. read more

It's very nice, I don't know how the smaller rooms are but we had the king suite. It was very roomy with a sitting area and a refrigerator and microwave. The bathroom is very large and nice, the whole suite is very comfortable everything looks new and very well maintained. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star is because the bed was a little lumpy. Units are pet friendly as we had two little dogs on our trip and best to call and request a room as not all rooms are for pet staying. We didn't know really what to expect but were pleasantly surprised by the large room and bath. The room was very clean when we arrived. Of note are the exceptional staff who are super friendly, personable and helpful. Due to the poor cell reception in the area they made dinner reservations for us. Nice. The motel wi-fi is weak in rooms but we worked around that by checking our texts and e mail nearer to the office. There is a very nice and peaceful sitting area in the back of the motel which was nice to get out of the room. One suggestion is to request a room as far back from the road as possible. While the traffic and subsequent noise is OK in the later evening it can be really loud in the morning, like lots of truck noise and the occasional motorcycle. read more

My family and our 3-year-old dog stayed at the lodge for 2 nights. The staff was very friendly and checking in often. The room was clean and quiet and the heater worked well in the cold and raining weather. Calaveras Big Trees State Park is nearby along with several local cafes and restaurants. The Bear Valley resort is only 50 minutes away. During my stay, I left my watch in the room. The staff contacted me immediately and mailed it back to me. Loved this place! The rooms have been upgraded with modern furniture. Our room was very clean. The kids had a small area with 2 twin beds to sleep in connected to our room. Great place to stay after a long drive up to play in the snow!! I was advised by an inn keeper at another inn that Meadowmont Lodge was dog friendly. I asked the helpful lady if I could use the landline, because I had no cell phone signal. My wife had her work phone with, which is Verizon, and still no signal. So FYI NO SIGNAL for AT&T and Verizon! After calling and reserving a room, we continued to relax and play in the snow. I checked in around 1500/3PM, and just to say, Clinton who was working the desk was very helpful! I explained I have a dog; which I had to pay an extra fee and that I had 2-little ones. Clinton advised that the room I reserved had an additional small room with it. He showed me it on map of the lay out of lodges grounds. I was worried about the safety of my kids and the security of their well being?! He advised that's the room is double locked, it's late in the day and there are several other empty rooms available.. Ok, this was reassuring! Room #17. The Lodge was recently renovated and the room had a IKEA, Cost Plus..Target feel if you know what I mean. Super clean, and the heater kept the rooms toasty. I brought my buddies bed and he slept on the floor next to us. When he had to go, I took him on the backside up the hill so that he could relieve himself. The bed was a queen, felt like a full and was a single when our kids slept with us. Yeah.. It happens! The bathroom and shower was nice. The shower was roomy and the shower head was a water restrictor to save water. It put out plenty of hot water, and I was happy about that! There is a desk if you need one, and a fridge, microwave and a Keurig. The room was great! Leaving the Bay Area for a day trip is hard. I'm so glad I stayed the night! The negative thing is you can hear the traffic from the road, which it didn't really bother me. Yes, I will stay here again. I'm going to Bookmark it! Will you? read more

Also, it's right across the street from Snowshoe Brewery. Good bar food, a low-key, family-friendly environment and their beers are pretty tasty. Only reason it's not five stars: it can be a little loud. It's right by highway 4, so sometimes the trucks rumbling by can be a bit on the noisy side. This was a cute and cozy hotel! We stayed here for 3 days trecking to Bear Valley to play in the snow and it was an awesome place to land after a long day! Rooms were very warm and had plenty of pillows and warm blankets. Huge bathroom with a heat switch! Had a microwave, Kurieg coffee maker and small fridge so we could bring some meals from home and save money! The owner was so sweet and turned on the heat for us before we arrived ...very nice touch! Would recommend for a cute hotel to stay in while enjoying Bear valley. read more

I love this little lodge! There was some mis-communication about checkin because I didn't have cell service and missed the email from the lodge. One of the guest helped us figure it out and we finally got into our room. So check your email when you have cell service! The room is well maintained and very clean. The bedroom area was spacious, has a microwave, fridge, air conditioner and dish tv. Nice. The bathroom has an actual bath mat for inside the tub and mats for outside the tub, a bathroom heater, makeup mirror and hairdryer. Nice. Beds are comfy. We visit Big Trees several times a year and we will most definitely be staying here again. read more

Very clean comfortable rooms with upgraded furnishings and beautiful hardwood flooring. It kinda seems like they might run out of hot water in the morning, so you might want to take your shower at night. The staff are great and kind of amazing! Meadowmont Lodge is right on the highway, so it's very convenient. It's not far from several places to eat. It's also just a couple of miles from the Big Trees park.
