We recently stayed at the Victorian Inn and it was beyond expectations. We booked two nights in the Goldfields room and it was cozy and just right. I enjoyed a soak in the clawfoot tub and sipping coffee on the private balcony. We had access to a Keurig coffee maker for early coffee before the staff arrived and other snacks (cookies, fruit, instant oatmeal, hot cocoa and tea) during off hours. The lady who made us breakfast was lovely (Linda maybe?) and we enjoyed chatting with her each morning. She made me avocado toast and provided yogurt, oatmeal, fresh fruit, etc. I believe there were even more options. She said if we call ahead she will provide special gluten free option for us too. She and the front desk ladies were all kind and helpful and made us feel so welcome. My only complaint and this is not really the Inn's fault but the first night the restaurant staff below our room was very loud until late. The restaurant was closed but they were blasting music and that was a bit unexpected on a Monday night. The second night was very quiet and this will not keep me from rebooking. We will definitely be back soon! This is my new favorite place! There were so many little details that made us feel at home. Super cute little Inn in Murphy's, CA. My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night for our anniversary. We loved the comfy feel and the reminders of older architecture. The bathtub was vintage, the toilet flushed from above, there was coffee upstairs and downstairs available for free, and our room had a balcony. The Inn has a restaurant attached to it, but I would recommend making reservations before your arrival. They were fully booked the day we arrived. There are some fun spots near the Inn. My favorite restaurant around the corner Grounds. The Irish Pub across the street. The champagne bar is at the end of the Main Street. The place was very small and intimate. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because every time we were in the lobby, the front desk worker was always on the phone. She was very nice, but we always had to wait to speak with her. Instead of taking responsibility for the lack of good customer service at his properties, Michael Ninos, the owner of Victoria Inn, uses the "there are 2 sides to every story" excuse when a guest posts a negative review. Take a look at some of the negative reviews, and you will see Michael's habit of blaming the guest. Please also look at the review of 6/20/23. The guest's complaint is the same as mine: a very rude and uncooperative front desk employee. Maybe a trend here? You can also look at TripAdvisor, where many negative reviews have been posted regarding the poor condition of rooms and the lack of breakfast at their B&B (which stands for "bed and breakfast, btw). The manager, Linda Stokes, writes long apologies for the decrepitude of the premises, blaming the weather, the timing of guest arrivals, and the guests themselves. No offer of any kind of refund is ever mentioned. The lack of upkeep of the properties and rude staff seems to be a problem which has plagued Ninos' properties going back as far as 2007. Perhaps spending money on updates, better staff, and/or lowering prices is a more businesslike approach, rather than blaming guests and posting excuses. I'm sorry Michael Ninos is upset that he has been described in Murphys as "nuts" or "a real jerk", but I didn't say it. 3 or 4 business people and residents in Murphys did. We really do love many things about the Victoria Inn, but this last stay was rough. The property is super cute and quaint with a nice little lobby area, and great coffee/tea bar. The location is centrally located and walkable to the restaurants and wineries, which is very nice. What killed it for us, was the noise level and almost zero sleep. For those choosing to stay in a room above the kitchen: Our room was right above the kitchen, and although part of what we really enjoy is hearing the chatter and laughter of the diners in the evening; after closing, the amount of noise coming from the restaurant (loud music, voices, scooting chairs, etc.) made going to sleep difficult. Then, the room fans and/or AC kept making intermittent whop whop whop buzzing noises, like a helicopter taking off and landing, so that also made it hard to sleep. Thought we had fixed the problem the next night by using ear plugs and playing white noise, but then the couple next door kept us awake until 3am by talking so loudly I could hear exactly what they were saying. Omg...Quiet time is 10pm. Finally, the room has a nice clawfoot bathtub, but it's located right near the foot of the bed on a raised floor creating a trip hazard, sooo be careful making your way to the bathroom or opening the blinds when it's dark cuz hubby ended up with what looks like a broken toe. And, it's nice you can open the room windows (no balcony), but surprised there isn't any fall protection barrier, given the room is on the second floor. read more

Rented a home in Murphy's through AirBnB which this property management oversees (V Property Management). Michael (property company owner) proceeded to walk in through the BACK DOOR of the house at 11:30pm at night, startling us 7 girls and claimed he was the "owner" of the HOME and that we needed to be quiet or we would be evicted "like the last group of girls who had to pack their little baggies"....he stated. We ended up calling the police right away and informed them he intruded in the middle of the night through the back door. Come to find out, AirBnB informed us he was in fact NOT the owner of the home! This was a very scary situation. When he entered the home we told him he needed to leave immediately, as his way of entering was intruding. He exclaimed "ok ok fine"....Michael then came to the home AGAIN the next day at 6pm within minutes of when we arrived back from wine tasting on Main St (within two minutes). He said we were being evicted due to being loud the day prior and that a neighbor had complained about us "harassing" them when we arrived back- somehow during the time we were not even on the property or within the two minutes we had been back. We called the police again at this point as we felt harassed. Mind you, we had been WINE TASTING.....the entire reason we rented this place- so, we could not have left or driven anyways! He video taped my friends and I on multiple occasions from his car on the street which escalated things and made us very uncomfortable because at this point, we still had no idea WHO he was. I will and would NEVER recommend renting a home or hotel managed by this person, especially after being spooked by his invasion into the home when only us GIRLS were there. He CLAIMS he "knocked loudly and called" and was able to "introduce himself" however this is false. He did not ring the doorbell or knock, so he decided to use the back door. Michael's response to this review also states we had too many guests when there were only 7 of us girls the first night and 8 the second night. This house has 8 beds. They were informed there would be 7-8 people total (I included the text message photos showing this). There was no "party" and no one was in contact with any neighbors. In the end, the real owners of the home and police determined we could stay until our agreed upon time, checkout time the next day. Very disappointed in how this situation played out and the struggle we had to go through just to try and enjoy our two days there and not feeling safe while doing so. read more

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Victoria Inn. The check-in was smooth and efficient, our room was adorable and we had a balcony right next to the Main Street, the room was clean and we couldn't ask for much more. There's a parking lot right behind the building that was very convenient. Highly recommend it. My two recommendations to consider - 1) if the room is available to check in a little early, why charge $20? 2) Maybe consider bagels or pastries with the coffee in the morning or a wine and cheese happy hour. read more

Where do I begin? I guess its best to just walk you thru what we experienced. Looking at the pictures on their website would lead one to believe that this is a stellar and romantic place to go with someone you love. That is certainly why my wife and I decided to spend our anniversary there. But the pictures are NOT what we found, not by a long shot. So, I took my own pictures...which I will post here for you all to consider. Arrived on a Wednesday, paid the extra fee to check in early. There is NO reserved parking and because this property is in the center of Murphys there is almost no street parking...especially now with Covid and the taking up of what would be parking places for curbside services like dining and so on. We were super lucky to get a parking spot behind the property, otherwise, we would have had to drag a large suitcase, ice chest, pillows, and a few other items down the street and up the stairs to our room. That is where the luck ended. Now I give 1 star because the receptionist was very nice, very helpful and gave us plenty of good information for our stay. The second star is just for the physical location in the town...very central and walking is a fun way to explore things. We were assigned to room 7, a king bed with a huge spa tub in the bathroom. Walking up the stairs (there is no elevator) we noticed all the stains in the red carpet. We had a moment of thinking did you see that in the website photos? The farther you travel down the hall, the more the stains are present...gross. Also at the top of the stairs, I saw a thermostat that was labeled "Rooms 5,6,7" I wondered how that would work...if the thermostat was in the hallway, which was very warm (79 degrees) how would it know when the AC had reached the cooling goal? And how could three rooms that share no common space be able to agree on whats a good temperature? And most of all, the controls were wide open for anyone to adjust them. We entered the room and my first impression was not great. Cracked tiles on the bathroom floor, spider webs all over the windows and in the sills, no screens on any of the windows, more carpet stains and chipped and scraped paint all over the place. I sat on the bed and felt like I was sitting on a park bench. HARD does not even describe it. I peeled the covers off the bed and found the mattress tag, manufactured by Simmons in San Leandro CA in the year of 2001! Not only was this mattress only 6 inches thick, but it was also 19 years old! Did I mention the room was $240 a night? Did I mention that it usually includes breakfast but they canceled that because of Covid? Even though there are two restaurants right downstairs that serve breakfast!! No discounts for the lack of breakfast and now we are sleeping on a bed that the Flinstones would have said sucked! The first night it was about midnight and the smoke alarm starting chirping loudly...this went on all night. Apparently the smoke alarm system is network monitored and there was an issue with our smoke detector. The room became so hot that I had to get up and go to that shared thermostat to see what it was set to. When I went to bed it was set to cool to 74, now it was set to 79. Again, someone in another room was probably cold, so they turned it up to match the hallway temperature...you just cannot control three rooms and make it where people are happy with that. Did I mention this room was $240 a night? I set it to 72 and went back for a good freeze as it were. I am sure the other rooms were not happy about that, but I locked the thermostat, and just as I thought, no one figured out how to unlock it. The second night was worse. The bed had now caused a pinched nerve in my hip and shoulder. The trip home was very painful and I needed several visits to my chiropractor to relieve the pain and the pinched nerves. I figure that since the staff were all very nice and responsive, it must be an owner issue. Charging $240 a night for a room that was either freezing or roasting is not something I would pay again. I also cannot imagine why an owner would have a 19-year-old mattress in a "4-star" hotel. I also don't understand why there could not have been a voucher for a breakfast at one of the two places downstairs. And the carpets and the run-down condition of the painted surfaces and the broken floor tiles in the bathroom as well as the filthy spiderweb covered windows are just inexcusable by any means. If you are the owner and you are reading this, you should be ashamed. You have to upgrade this place...it is at best a one-star hotel with super crappy beds. Pictures of the mattress tag to be posted...because if I was reading this and then looking at the pictures and the reviews I would not think it was the same place...but it is. Never again! read more

I took the wife out for a date night in Murphy's. I booked a room at Victoria Inn about a week prior. I got a great deal by calling directly to the hotel. We arrived and the check in was quick and easy. One downfall, no hotel parking. Lucky for us we found street parking fairly quickly. Our room was pretty amazing. We booked the goldfield room. The room was old fashion and very nice. For a date night this room was perfect! We even had a balcony. The bathroom had old furnishings from the toilet to the bath. Pretty cool in my book. Our walk to the main strip was like 30 seconds. The staff here are awesome. Very attentive to our needs. There was this nice lady Marie who was on it. She heard the coffee was out. I mean she heard the noise the coffee pot made when it was out and by the time I turned around, she was already on it and changing the coffee. A+++ in my book. She was awesome!!!!! Love You Marie. There breakfast selection was pretty good. It was a continental style breakfast but with smoked salmon, nice jelly spreads and a good selections of breads and pastries. If you're in Murphy's, stay at the Victoria Inn, you won't regret it. read more

This is our second time staying here and the rooms and the location are absolutely perfect. We loved it so much last time that we decided to stay for three nights this time. Unfortunately, today, June 20th at 4:00 p.m., we had the misfortune of asking the person at the front desk for more toilet paper. The answer I received was that it's best that I asked for more toilet paper in the morning when the cleaning people were there. That was absolutely outrageous. We are paying a lot of money to stay there for 3 days and we are only asking for a simple roll of toilet paper. This is bad customer service. read more

The bed was so uncomfortable, probably because it's 19 years old! The windows have cobwebs all over them, there were broken tiles in the bathroom, so broken that when you walked over them the tiles come off the floor. The shower curtain rod was held together with duct tape, need I say more? Simply put, this place is just run down. If you're looking for a romantic getaway, like we were, this place will not leave you feeling romantic at all. If your stay is for any kind of special occasion, I say choose elsewhere. read more

My husband and I stayed at the Victoria Inn this past weekend in their Skyview room. The room was clean and comfortable, but small. The private balcony is definitely "private" as the view is the wall of part of the building. I am not sure where the name "Skyview" comes from, but I can only think it's to defer you from looking down from your window because below you is the back of the house where storage and piles of empty containers are tossed with over flowing bags of maybe linens... The bathroom has a nice tub for soaking which I did appreciate a hot bath. Although the toilet was not quite up to par. While it did flush the "contents," the toilet paper always stayed behind. When we mentioned this to the front desk they said they would have their handyman take a look. Apparently the toilet was in normal working condition, but just "old" and we were told the handle needed to be help down longer to ensure everything would flush... This was not the case because as all toilets are, eventually the toilet stops running the longer you hold it down. Anyway, not a deal breaker, just something we dealt with. This room has a Queen sized bed and I wish I could say it was comfortable but it was literally the HARDEST bed I have ever slept on. We had booked 2 nights but honestly my husband and I were both so sore the first day from the stiff bed that we decided to pack up and drive home the second night. Again, not a deal breaker, some people prefer firmer mattresses, but it wasn't for us. The location of the Inn is perfect, right in the middle of town with lots of wine tasting rooms and places to eat within walking distance. One thing that I was disappointed in was the enforcement of "Quiet time." The front desk leaves at 7pm and quiet hours are from 10pm-8am. There was a very rowdy group that strolled in much past midnight and was extremely loud not only in their room but in the hall for about an hour. No one was there to enforce them to quiet down so that was a little frustrating. None of these things are deal breakers, we would most likely stay here again, but I would definitely choose a different room and hope the bed is at least more comfortable. read more

Enjoyed the stay at the cottage that is managed by Victoria Inn. It's 2 miles from the hotel, but we liked the privacy and the creek that was right in our backyard. We still drove back to the actual Hotel to have breakfast at Grounds, do some wine tasting, and enjoy dinner at V Bistro. One day wasn't enough, and it was our first time visiting. We actually ended up here because of a wedding. We will definitely be back to explore more of this really friendly and unique town. Amazing Food while you charge your car!!! So my sister and I went to Angels Camp to enjoy some gambling and fun. We met up with my nephew who lives in Arnold. We were going to have lunch and they selected V Restaurant... When I looked for nearby charging stations, I was so amazed to find they had one!!! The manager, was so nice, letting me charge while we ate lunch. It was amazing food. Deserving of 10 stars!!! The team at the Victoria Inn and V Vacation Rentals ROCK! A group of us girls went up to Murphys for what was suppose to be a relaxed weekend away from the responsibilities of home. We used VRBO to book another property in town. We drove up in a Tesla and needed a charge. Luckily, we found Michael, the owner of Victoria Inn and another B&B in Murphys, who had 2 chargers. For a nominal fee he let us charge the car even though we went guests. We thought that the tale would end there, but it didn't. To make a long story short, when we had HUGE problems with the "other" rental property, I called Michael and his team hoping they could come to our aid yet again. Fortunately for us, they did! When I explained our situation with the other home, Lisa/Michael immediately went to work to help us out! Within moments, they found us a beautiful home to rent. The property they offered (ROCKY HILL CHATEAU) far exceeded our expectations! They even offered to let us come down to the Victoria Inn to partake in their delicious continental breakfast! What we found most impressive was that they really wanted to insure that we had a great time in Murphys. We received several calls/texts from both Lisa and Michael thanking us for our business and checking in to make sure that we had everything we needed. We've rented many vacation homes in the past and never have we encountered such wonderful customer service! I can honestly say that they saved our girls trip and now have 8 loyal (and grateful) customers. We can't wait to return! read more

The Victoria Inn was a great experience for us. The rooms we stayed at were beautiful, so nicely decorated and had its special artistic touch to them. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook even to bake. But the coffee was more than enough for us. Room service was speedy, daily and great to have. The breakfast was included and it was light & healthy with a variety of pastries too, just incase you want a little more carbs.. But what made our stay even greater was their hospitality. We had such a lovely time at the Victoria Inn properties. We stayed in the Wright House. It was well appointed and comfortable. The Beds were FABULOUS! as were the sheets! We asked if they had a DVD player and the manager (owner?) was so nice brought one from his own home and had it set up for us so we could watch the Christmas Movies we watched. What a gem! False advertising for sure! Crestview "Pond Estates" what pond? It was excavated right before our arrival. No discount to compensate ? The management didn't plan on telling us, it was only because I had been asking questions that the management felt like they had to say something? What the !$&@$? That is poor management I'f you ask me! Booked this place a month ago with the premis of the "Pond" being the focus of the ambiance. The property manager Linda was rude not understanding. I would of booked somewhere else had they informed us appropriately but by the time they said anything it was too late to book elsewhere! The property management did not even offer a discount! We have stayed at Victoria Inn in the past and I thought this would be the perfect spot for our family reunion. I can't believe the owner decided to make changes knowing a big family was coming from far away. It really puts a bad taste in everything here. Another thing they charged us extra for early check in and their reasoning was so they could turn down the air?! Hello you do t even have to go to a place for that when you have the nest! Also there were someone's dirty underware left in the master bedroom ewe and when we asked for extra towels we were told by Linda that "she" felt we didnt need them!? I should have read the reviews closer. For some reason, upon searching for reviews, I found mostly positive ones for this property. We booked a stay here Sunday to Monday in the "Anniversary Suite". The room itself was generally comfortable, but had major issues and in no way justified the price they charge. Amongst the issues: - Noise. The bar/restaurant wasn't a problem. The restaurant closing up and bottles being tossed into recycle bins after 9:30 at night for 5-10 minutes was. Paper thin walls. Had to close the bathroom door because every plumbing feature that went off near by, you heard the pipes. Street noise -- garbage day is apparently on Monday and that happens prior to 7am. While not the fault of the property, per say, the paper thin walls contributed to us hearing a baby screaming pretty much all night (even at 3:30am). - The blinds (or lack there of). The Anniversary Suite has a balcony. The property also has two bright white outdoor lights pointing up the roof back into the room. As other have stated, the room has no real blinds. I ended up finding a heavy blanket and tossing it over some of the windows to cut out the majority of the light. The room still wasn't suitably dark for a small town up in the mountains. Calls to the after hours front desk went unanswered. - The bed. The mattress was comfortable, but, well, better make sure the 6" gap between the mattress and the head board don't eat your pillow. - General dilapidation. It is pretty clear that the property owners/managers do not actually care about property upkeep. Furnishing that had giant rips in the upholstery get covered up with a blanket or heavy fabric. The shower tile could use cleaning. The molding around the upper part of the shower tile stood out 1/4 - 1/3 of an inch from the tile. Maybe to match the mattress not meeting the headboard. I mentioned the above upon checkout. The woman working the desk was apologetic, but the manager was surprisingly not around. I asked her to have him give me a call. It hasn't happened. I will not be returning to this property nor would I recommend it to anyone else. Maybe at 1/3 of the price, but not for what they charge. read more
