On our last visit some 20+ years ago (with 3 small boys) we stayed at the City Hotel and it was a wonderful delight. The boys learned to appreciate the Mother Lode and pretended to be City Slickers. Fond memories that I thought could not be duplicated. To my surprise, the town, the 2 Parlor hotels, the shops, the restaurants, the City folk are just as wonderful as ever! The Fallon Hotel is perfect for a City Slicker experience...thanks to Kathy and the team. Loved staying in a front balcony room both times. Fallon Hotel at the end of town, City Hotel right in the middle. Nice to see that the Dept of California State Parks does such a nice job with our tax dollars.

We finally decided to go back in time and stay at the Fallon Hotel in historical Columbia State Park. You must check in at the main street hotel to get your room and the code to get through the front door. We booked our reservation online and received a two night stay for $193.00. It was worth every penny of it. The Fallon Hotel was built in 1859 for gold miners returning to town. The upscale people stayed in either the Main St. hotel or the Fallon Hotel. There are many different rooms to choose from. Every room uses a community showering room to clean up at night. Some of the rooms do not have bathroom facilities so you will have to put on your nice white robe they provide and walk down the hallway to the toilet. We chose room #8 which came with a full size bed. This was fun in that we have a king bed at home. It also came with a small sitting area with an old white wicker chair to read. There was a small old fashion sink with a toilet in a separate room. It was so cool. You pull down on this chain and the toilet flushes. The room's furniture was all antique. The room itself was approximately 15' X 10' so of course, you have to get very close to your significant other or in this case, my beautiful wife. Our room over looked the courtyard setting which has not been maintained very much but it was cool. They offer a continental breakfast at the Main St hotel from 8:30-9:30 AM. We had the entire hotel to ourselves Sunday night. The sitting room downstairs makes you drift back in time and imagine what life was like in the 1800s. The Fallon Hotel is just a 45 minute drive to Calaveras State Park where you can walk among the giant sequoias. Yes, we even bought a seedling to bring home to plant. :) Murphy's is also a 20 minute drive where there are numerous wineries to visit. Do not miss the classic Murphy's Hotel and their Ruben sandwich. I can say that the hotel combined with the classic antique room made our weekend relaxing and of course, very romantic. You are doing yourself an injustice if you do not stay here at least once! Our next trip, Main St. Hotel!

I have never left a review before, but this place takes the cake…read more My husband and I were meeting family in Columbia for a couple of days. Our son and grandkids were staying in a hotel inside the park (historic and for less money), but we really wanted a pool. Before we booked we confirmed that the pool was open. We arrived in the early evening, and the innkeeper said for an additional charge we could have one of the newly renovated rooms. It sounded good. Anyways, the room was not great. Just fresh paint and some garage sale furniture. But okay. Not a big deal. It was clean. and the beds were comfortable. The curtains didn't actually cover the entire window so we put some books up against it and used a safety pin. My husband was more irritated than I was. I thought it was kind of funny. The next morning we asked for the wifi password (as promised) and the innkeeper said they didn't have internet. What?? We could see it right there on our phones. It made NO sense. When we went to use the pool we found that it was locked up tight with a padlock and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Leaves, dirt on the bottom, and mold growing on the side. And a dog was running around the pool barking at us. After talking to some of the other guests we finally put two and two together. It is mostly a residence motel with a few rooms to rent to the public. They said they got the internet with no problem. Apparently the pool is attached to their private quarters and the padlock stays put. I guess the dogs need a yard. Anyways, don't waste your money. Without the internet and pool as promised it is a fifty dollar room, not $115.

I pride myself in leaving factual yelp reviews so here I go. -Location is PERFECTLY a short block away from the hustle bustle of the Main Street for coffee, bagels, meals, shopping, or maybe even a scoop of ice cream -Check in/out process was so warm and hospitable -We stayed in the Prospector Room because we were traveling with our dog, so took value in the private patio. Our room was cozy and spotless. Thankful for the AC unit as we visited on a hot weekend. Our dog enjoyed relaxing in the shaded patio. Our bed was comfy, more on the soft than firm, but did not hurt my back whatsoever. -OMG THE BREAKFAST. Kim is an UH-mazing cook. Perfect portion, flavor, not too heavy/complex, but certainly delicious. I am glad to have visited Sonora, but not sure if I'd make it an annual trip, to replace it with Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, or Napa. Nothing terrible happened, but I didn't have my socks knocked off either. Maybe it was the hot weather...not sure! If you plan on visiting Gold Country, do stay at the Bradford Place Inn and Gardens! We will.

Kim (Owner) was so wonderful, sweet and very accommodating to my wife's dietary needs etc., when preparing our delicious breakfasts. Each day, our breakfast was prepared fresh, warm and delicious. Breakfast (forgot to take a picture, too good to wait) included a protein, fresh fruit, warm pastries, ice water, orange juice and coffee. Just the right amount to get your day off to a good start... We loved this old Victorian home, it's beautiful. Some rooms, like ours, have a private patio area connected to your room. Very relaxing... Although, we don't have any pets, this place is "pet friendly". Next time, we're in the area, we'll be staying here again. Kim is such a gracious hostess and good person. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND you staying here... I found this place to be very reasonable, relaxing, beautiful and includes a delicious breakfast, compared to a typical "no tell motel"!!!

Let me, however, concentrate on breakfast... yes, the food which is AMAZING. Rhonda and team are such talented chefs, and the food was not only mouthwatering delicious but very creative. The initial cream filled pear was such a delicious treat and everything that followed, the tiny quiche, skewer of savory flavor, etc. were extraordinary.
