We stayed at Murphy's Hotel and had breakfast and dinner in their dining room. The room was clean but could use some updating. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious but for dinner I would suggest dimming the lights a little in the dining room. It was white tablecloth and that would have made it nicer. Service was wonderful there everywhere we went. It was a really good experience and the hotel is located in the middle of town which makes everything so easy. Will definitely be returning! read more

Dogs not allowed on patio. We drove several hours to have lunch specifically here. Not allowing dogs at all seems crazy. It's a beautiful, historic building so would have been nice to enjoy a meal. read more

We enjoyed our stay after a long day on the road. The room was very pleasant and comfortable.

Our room for two nights was clean and pleasant, but the water pressure was so low that we almost despaired of having a hot shower. The shower finally produced warm - I will not say hot - water, but the pressure was too low to permit of washing my hair. Also, no one made up our room after our first night. There was no coffee service in our room, and no breakfast provided, though you can get coffee near the hotel entrance for a few hours in the morning. Given the no-frills service, I think the room was over-priced. In it's favor, the hotel is surrounded with beautiful flowering shrubs this month. read more

Good experience, and good location in downtown Murphys. My girlfriend and I stayed one night in a King Room in the newer side of the hotel. The room was modern looking and comfortable, and the bed was as expected for a normal hotel. Not great, but not bad either. Nice clean bathroom with a large walk in shower. No major complaints or issues with hotel in general, and would definitely stay there again if spending the night up in the area. The front staff were very friendly too! read more

What a dinner! My friends and I decided to get a nice dinner together and we were not disappoint! This historic and unique place had a touch of history and luxury. Our server was very nice and had a bit of humor as well. If you are from out of town, I would definitely recommend this place for dinner. There are also many areas for wine tasting and fun! I ordered the calamari for myself appetizer and I think it was one of the best calamari I have ever had. TASTY OR WASTEY? Absolutely tasty!!! Took a drive to Murphy's. By the time we got there, we we're so hungry. We walked into the quaint little hotel, and were seated outdoors on the patio. We had the summer greens salad (AMAZING) the best salad I've had in a long time. And, I eat salad at least 3xs a week. We shared the French dip, which was a perfect size for an early lunch. Fantastic stay #2. You want to make sure you listen to the lady when you make a reservation. Some rooms have AC and others don't. Please don't be a crazy Karen and ask to stay in the historic portion of the hotel and then get upset. These rooms do not have AC and you should ask to stay in the new portion of that's a requirement. The entire experience was awesome, from the clean rooms to the staff and the bar. This is our go-to place every year in our way to Tahoe. It gets hot here. Very hot. The first year we came it was 100, this year was 111. read more

During our travels we had seen this place before. Well on this trip we made a point to stay here. The staff was super friendly. I had called ahead reserved a room. They were very accommodating. I had a small dog no problem staying in the historic inn. The rooms were reasonably priced. They were well decorated clean, with nice bathing area. We had a small balcony off of our room and they brought us chairs to sit out there. The restaurant which is attached has excellent food, the bar is nice and our visit was one of the best times we have ever had. So please do try and plan your stay I know you'll love it. read more

Although we have frequented the restaurant many times over the last few years, our daughter wanted to stay in the most "paranormal" room for her birthday. I would say it was a success! Kenny from the bar downstairs, was wonderful (as always) and Deanna was so sweet and welcoming knowing it was our daughters birthday. Had a great time at this hotel. Went with a group of friends and we all enjoyed it. The rooms in the main part of the hotel were charming, but mine was a bit small. It's not a complaint, just something to expect when you go to an historic hotel. The staff was very nice, the restaurant in the hotel was very good. The bar was full to the brim with guests and locals. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Even though my room was above the bar, I really couldn't hear much. The upper floor was pretty quiet. The location of the hotel is great. There is no elevator in the hotel and the stairs to the second floor are very steep. If you have mobility issues, you might want to stay in their more modern rooms outside of the main part of the hotel. read more

This place was freaking awesome! My wife and I had dinner here tonight and wow. We started out with the baked bree and it was super good. For dinner I had the 12oz prime rib and my wife had the pork loin. Both of our meals were perfect! I know Gordan Ramsey cam and ripped this place apart a few years ago and I still think the owners are doing what they want but there doing it right! If your looking for a really good place for dinner in Murphys this is the place to be. I'm also a total history buff so after dinner we went upstairs and checked out all the old rooms I was impressed. Murphys Hotel is an all around a cool place. read more

Folks, this place is a complete rip off. Extremely dirty, noise from the salon below that went well into the wee hours of the morning. The staff was off-putting and unhelpful. There was a man in only his underwear, either drunk or drugged, trying to get into the room next to mine, jiggling the door handle for better than 30 minutes. I called the front desk from my cell phone (no phones in room) but just got voice mail. I was ready to dial 911 if he tried to get into my room. In the morning the staff told me there is no one on duty after hours. A hotel of roughly 30 rooms yet there's no staff on hand after hours. What happens in an emergency? I recently stayed here for two nights and on our last morning, we were awakened around 8:30am with a loud banging next door. The carpet was being replaced in the room next to us. Since our check out time wasn't until 11:00am, we had hoped to sleep in a little and take advantage of the room that we paid for. It was very disturbing in more ways than one. We quickly got our belongings together and went to the front desk to check out. When I expressed our disappointment to the front staff (Deanna), she immediately stated, "we have to get that room turned around for other people". There was no apology. I expressed my disappointment again, and said that it would have been nice to have had some notice or warning that you would be replacing carpet in the room next to us starting early that morning. Again, no apology was made just that they had to get the room ready for future customers. It appeared to me that as a paying customer I did not matter; even though we paid for two nights lodging, had dinner at the restaurant one night and drinks in the bar one night. She did eventually give us a 10% discount off one night which amounted to $21.00. I received a standard email from the hotel after our visit stating they hoped that I would share my positive experience on TripAdvisor or Yelp, or if I was disappointed with my stay to please contact the hotel and my concerns would be answered personally. So, I did email Brian per Deanna and I have never received a response. If an apology had been made, a little kindness of customer service I probably would not have left this review. Even though this hotel is in a great location for exploring Murphy's on foot, I will never stay at this hotel again, nor will I ever refer anyone. read more

Went here to dine In , but to our surprise is is a living history of US. Good Restaurant and very popular among locals and visitors alike. Fish and Chip is one of their best menu. Portobello mushroom, need a better bread to hold the weight of the Mai. Ingredients, other than that is it seasoned right and delicious . There is no need to put condiments . This hot. I was raised in a family owned business and our customer service values are high! I am only reviewing the hotel and their customer service not the the restaurant. The restaurant was awesome. I love historic hotel's. I've stayed in many we stayed in the Mark Twain room which was very cool. The problem that I have with this hotel is that they didn't warn us about the party that was right directly across from our room. It went on till 10 o'clock at night with music drunk people, loud voices. They did warn us about the bar being open, but that didn't seem to be a problem. What was the real problem was from 10 till two in the morning there were drunk people that would be downstairs below our window, talking extremely loud, smoking, laughing yelling and yes, this went on till 2 AM ! There a few more things that occupy My over all complaint is that when u brought a few items to the attention of management the customer care is just not coordinated ! We should've been told about the party across from my room before booking. No one told us this. We should've also been told that there would be loud sounds outside our window at night until 2 AM. What I was told is that the bar closed at 10 this was incorrect information, and I was also told that the party shut down at nine in both cases, we were not given the information that we needed to be able to make a decision on whether we would stay there or not so we were stuck! This to me is not good customer care! Don't get me wrong I think it's a great hotel to stay there if you want to party all the Time, Not my cup of tea! read more

Came to check out this place for brunch last Sunday. We actually sat at the bar area. Service could have been better, but I understand there were football games on, and the bartenders were watching while working. Our server even spilled water on our table while looking at the screen. We had to ask for our silverware's after our food was finally served. Food was decent, just decided for Chicken Fried Steak and a Bloody Mary. It wasn't bad at all. Just took awhile for us to get our food. Had to remind them twice for our toast that didn't arrive until almost the end of our brunch. We shared an order of Calamari, that was tasty. It came with fried cauliflower. The flavor was there, but they don't give you much at all. Meaning at all. I was going to order Lumpia, I'm glad the server told me how many came with for the $12 price. No thank you. It's like staying in a time capsule! I stayed in the Ulysses S Grant room. They say it's haunted here..I sleep like a dead person so I didn't experience anything. There is a journal in each room, I recommend reading it very interesting. Once I checkout in I headed down to the saloon for a drink and food. It's definite a louder bar on weekends...that being said it was a great crowd. The bartender was awesome he did a pretty good taking care of everyone despite how busy it was. Even had a chance to get the bison shank, and some amazing appetizers...I hope to visit here again! read more

I would have given the 5 stars if the servers and wait staff wore masks but that was not the case. About half of the staff wore masked. When rolling the silverware no gloves where worn. So disappointing. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The outdoor sitting was comfortable and beautifully set up. The food was quick from order to mouth. My veggie scramble was excellent. Sweet setting, exceptional service and the food was great. We both had steak, cooked perfectly. Vegetables were nice. Good bread and butter. We heard there was a corking fee for bringing in your own bottle. Not so! No outside bottles allowed and we had already spent so much tasting the local wineries we opted for just water. Hotel rating only. We were so disappointed in our stay at the Murphys Historic Hotel. We stayed in the "modern" building across the parking lot. Entering our room we were immediately disappointed by the dingy space. We wanted to leave and go over to the Victoria Inn but we had already paid for 2 nights. The room very dirty and very dated. The carpets were stained badly and the AC did not work well. The bathroom was gross. There are no amenities in the room like a coffee maker or extra towels and bedding. Not worth the price we paid. We were charged a cleaning fee for the floor for a stain we did not make. I am so sad about this review because I was married at the hotel years ago. I loved this hotel but it has really changed and has not been well maintained when it comes to accommodations. Unfortunately I will never be staying here again. read more

Super delicious! We stopped on our way out of town for a breakfast with a baby and toddler in tow and limited restaurant options open on a Tuesday morning. We were seated right away and our server very friendly. My husband had a prime rib hash special, I had the Benedict, and our daughter had chocolate chip pancakes. This review is for the restaurant and bar only. THE BAR It's a nice size and was decorated all out for St Patrick's day. The bartender acknowledged us quickly despite how packed the place was, which was commendable. The drinks, however.....terrible! The Guinness was completely flat. The Irish Coffee was made with super cheap whiskey and that was all you could taste. THE RESTAURANT Wow.....I'm pretty sure this is the worst service I've ever experienced at a restaurant before. It took 2 HOURS to get our food. No check-in or apology from the waitress. In fact, when we inquired at the 1.5 hour mark about where our food was, the waitress actually got snippy at us and said the kitchen had 13 orders right now and we'd have to wait. Well excuuuuse me lady. I had the Hotel Hashbrown Heaven ($12). It was absolutely terrible. Incredibly small portion size for that price. The cheese was cold and had already congealed on top of the entire dish by the time it was served to me. The salsa tasted like it was from a jar. The sour cream tasted like yogurt. We went on a long weekend getaway up in Arnold in May 2021 and spent Saturday afternoon checking out places in Murphy's. We decided to have brunch at the Murphy's hotel restaurant. We were very pleased with the beautiful outdoor patio, great service and the food was amazing. My friends ordered Mimosas and Bloody Mary's and they said the drinks were delicious. Prices were good too We highly recommend the experience so much that we returned on our last day to have lunch before heading back home. We HIGHLY recommend the Fish & Chips and the Cubano sandwich My pictures are if they fish & chips and my veggie omelette. Both were delicious read more

Terrible to stay at, this place is like a raging frat party house. Management leaves at 9pm so there is zero help. Profanity and people screaming at the top of their lungs, breaking bottles in the parking lot, a cleaning crew who thinks it's ok to vacuum at 2am when guests are trying to sleep, and random people jiggling door handles trying to get into my room. I did not sleep a wink, did not feel safe, contemplated calling the police, and am requesting a refund my experience was so awful. I have ever stayed in a place that was so poorly managed and had so little respect for its guests. I will never come back here again. read more
