This place is fine. Cooks Station up the road is a fraction of the cost and you get a lot more food for your buck. The chicken sandwich would be better on sourdough with some buffalo sauce or something with a kick as it was a little bland. Hardly consider these to be garlic fries...The Cinnamon Roll tasted like a piece of white bread and the frosting didn't offer much flavor. 2 mimosas here is $28, I could get the same amount of champagne at Cook's for $7. (1/4 price). Overall, the quality was OK. 4 stars for effort and I want to see pioneer thrive. I'm not interested in coming back if they don't adjust their prices.

Great food! Excellent service! Upcountry cute/historic decor. We'll definitely be back! Need to try more of their menu since they have a Michelin star Chef cooking there!

This local breakfast spot never disappoints! The food is always delicious, fresh, and exactly what you want when you're craving a good breakfast. Everything really hits the spot, and the service is always welcoming. We love having such a great place nearby.

Omelet, potatoes, biscuits & gravy

Went in with high expectations. Very disappointed. Only 3 ahead of us waiting for food. After 35-40 minutes we got ours. Omlet warm, potatoes cold, biscuits & gravy cold and hard. Server was pleasant and did discount our bill. Would have preferred hot food and fresh biscuits.

My brother lives very near this bakery and has tortured me with photos of the sourdough cinnamon…read moreroll for several months. I recently drove up to Amador County for an event (I live 2 hours away) and was told that if I stop at a fruit stand along the way and pick up some cherries, he will trade some SCRs for the cherries. (fair enough). I did, we did, I brought my SCR home and wrapped it tightly to enjoy the next morning. Next Morning Me is so happy she is writing this review!!!! I have been looking for a CR that lives up to its first name. Most CRs I find in the Bay Area are too heavy on the icing/sugar and too light on the cinnamon. In this case, Cinnamon is the middle name, but it should really be the first!!! This is it folks, this is what a Cinnamon Roll should be (to me, anyway). You can taste the cinnamon, it's not overburdened by sugar. The sourdough is chewy, but still soft, and I think I detect a hint of lemon in the icing. The icing is judiciously applied, meaning there is enough there to satisfy a sweet tooth, but not too much that I needed to scrape any off to taste the cinnamon. Dare I call it a Destination Cinnamon Roll? All I know is, next time my brother comes down to the Bay Area, I will be requesting said SCR! P.S. I have also tried their bread, which he has shared in the past, and that is also delicious!!! Volcano is tucked away, but is such a cute little town. If you are staying ANYWHERE in the area, get thee to Baked In Amador! (Or work a trade with a local!)

We went on Sunday so tried the sourdough cinnamon roll. It was good but I have had better. And I bought an Olive Rosemary bread to go which was very good. My friend disliked her tea that was given on a lid-free paper cup, I had not seen these before but understand the bakery is eco-conscious. The room where we had our baked goods was beautifully made but too cold for the chilly morning.

The staff was extremely rude, particularly the woman with the reddish-blonde/yellowish hair. We weren't greeted when we walked in. My mom and daughter were looking at the quart menu and "oohing and ahhing" over the flavors when we were abruptly asked, "Are you buying a quart or scoops?" My dad politely asked her to repeat herself, and she responded, "DO YOU WANT A QUART OR SCOOPS?" When we said we wanted scoops, she bluntly replied, "Then you're looking at the wrong menu. This is the menu for scoops." We were the only customers in the shop, yet we were repeatedly rushed with, "What would you like? What would you like?" I eventually had to tell her that we simply needed a moment to decide. When I ordered a junior scoop of cookies and cream in a cup, she snapped, "In a cup or a cone?!" even though I had just said "in a cup." Before I could even finish my order, she was already asking, "What else? What else can we get for you?" The entire interaction felt unnecessarily pushy and rude. The funniest part? Her attitude completely changed once she noticed my incredibly kind father had still left a tip. Suddenly, we got a smile and a "thank you." The ice cream itself was just okay, but the service was what really ruined the experience. This is a place my family and I have driven past for years on our way to our cabin, and we were excited to finally stop. Unfortunately, we won't be back. If you're serving people who are likely passing through, a simple greeting, a little patience, and basic courtesy would go a long way.

Historic general store in the town of Volcano…read more It was a warm day on the first day of August so we stopped by the Country Store to buy some cold drinks. Inside you will find things and stuff of all sorts from picture frames to toiletries to groceries. The atmosphere is so nostalgic with lots of character... I love it. It is a historic general store and it was pretty cool. The Country Store is also the town's Visitor's Center. It boasts of the longest-running general store in California having been in continuous use since 1852. Wow, that's an amazing record. The store fits in perfectly in the quirky town of Volcano. The sweet lady behind the counter thanked us for stopping by. There was only one thing I was disappointed about... that we did not order food here (we had lunch at the St George Hotel). I heard that the owner serves one mean cheeseburger (grilled in wood burning stone oven). Can't wait to come back and try! Review #1905

We decided to venture out and I'm glad we did…read more Our server, Diane (I think) was kind enough to make suggestions which we always appreciate. We started off with the fried ravioli; the quantity was more than anticipated, the flavor was expected. The marinara was cold, which was unexpected but had good flavor. We got the prime rib dip sandwich. The meat was well-seasoned/flavorful. I appreciated the au jus as well. Diane recommended the onion rings which I thought were GREAT! My husband thought they were good, but would've given bonus points for using sweet onion. And now to the Ribeye- I honestly can't remember the last time I had such a buttery, melt-in-your mouth cut of meat. The mashed potatoes were fine- kinda plain. The ribeye was well worth the price. A similar ribeye in the valley would EASILY cost $15-20 more. The restaurant was clean. The staff were friendly, especially our server. Eating outside may have been preferable on this occasion as there was a large party with several small children well past their expiration. All the hard surfaces made for quite a bit of echoes from the kiddos who were very excitable. Thanks to Plate 88 for the yummy food. We'll definitely be back. We ordered the Western burger and French dip sandwich, and both were very bland and lacked flavor. Even the horseradish on the French dip was barely noticeable. There was also someone smoking on the patio while we were trying to eat (we were inside but just not the view you want when trying to enjoy a meal)which made the experience a little less enjoyable. Overall, the service was wonderful, but the food and atmosphere just weren't what we had hoped for. I really wanted to love it!

I've gotten a bakery snack at the counter before and everything was fine there. But this latest visit I found myself starving and decided to have a quick sit down lunch inside the cafe. As expected the staff were incredibly welcoming. The dining room was very clean. My order was taken quickly and food arrived with very little wait. Three stars there. The food, though... Oof. I had a California Grilled Cheese. Bacon, avocado, cheese, tomato on sourdough and a side of fries. The sandwich didn't taste great, something seemed off about the cheese. The fries were ok, a little dry. I only ate about a quarter of the sandwich. It was no surprise that I had an upset stomach a short time later. The other thing I didn't like about the cafe was how dark and depressing it was. While I appreciate the cleanliness, the decor made me feel kind of sad. The menu overall offers a variety of breakfast items, lots of hamburgers, and a variety of other dishes. Nothing exciting and about what you would expect. Jackson Rancheria puts so much pride into everything else and it's a little sad to see the food quality be neglected.
