Our trip to Sutter Creek started with dinner at Hotel Sutter. I made reservations ahead of time and so we are seated promptly. The place was not busy on a Saturday night. The food was good and price decent. For our party of four, we feasted on calamari for appetizers. Burger, lamb and pasta for dinner. Nothing bad to say about the food, it was good. Or server was friendly but not chit chatty and we were taken cared of. No complains. We didn't get to try dessert as it was not offered to us. That's probably the only thing that our server forgot. Coconut Shrimp .... upstairs balcony seating .... Sunshine and people watching. I was a happy camper here! Mother/Daughter weekend started with a late lunch/snack sesh with my kiddo. Apparently they just reopened the balcony and weren't quite up to speed with service up there but we made it work. The view of downtown is perfect and we really enjoyed the Coconut Shrimp and our Brussels. However the drinks were just okay. We ordered at the bar which is small and very crowded. Everyone seemed happy but the bartenders seemed a little "over it". Pretty sure neither of them smiled once. Overall this was a fun place and really popular because the downstairs dinning room was packed! They also have a side room for events which was SUPER cute. I could see this being a great venue for a rehearsal dinner or big celebratory birthday location. The staff doesn't visit the table even once while you are here to refill water, ask if you need anything etc. This time the order was wrong and the correct food never came. Went here for dinner after a day out wine tasting. Both of us had the NY Strip with mashed potatoes and veggies. The steaks were cooked perfectly as we ordered (rare and med rare) Waiter was funny and great customer service. The rest of the service was hit and miss with the manager standing around a lot instead of helping her customers. Ambiance was nice sitting the living/front room of the old hotel. Some restaurants have a large wine list from all over California, I appreciate that everything we saw was local. Both the Restaurant and the Copper Room are excellent dining experiences! The upstairs restaurant area is a more formal experience with a full dining menu (there is a bar upstairs as well), while the Copper Room is an authentic bar and still serves some food as well. My wife and I went in today for lunch the place was not busy but the service was terrible. For the first time that I can remember a waiter never asked us if we needed anything else or asked how we were doing. We were given our food and never saw the waiter again. I'm very late on writing this review, since it was before the pandemic started and other stressful things came up causing me to stop reviewing for several months. But my experience was still close in my mind. It was during the City of Sutter Creek Christmas parade. The family wanted to see this, so we made the excursion from Sacramento. We arrived somewhat early and hungry, but since many places were closed or already filled with patrons, we had a hard time finding a restaurant to eat at. But as luck would have it, The Sutter Creek Restaurant was able to accommodate our large party. We got a nice, comfy table and our nice waiter Carl was amazing at taking care of all our menu/dietary needs including a restless toddler. There were a lot of delicious items on the menu. So we ordered a variety of foods to share. I ordered a Crab Louie with a Sutter Spiked Apple Pie cocktail to wash it down with. We had a Big Pretzel, Sutter Brussels, Brisket Sandwich, California Burger, and a dinner special. Everything was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious! We all loved the food and service, and left the restaurant happy and satisfied! This was our last time being together to enjoy a nice restaurant. We stayed in Sutter Creek for the weekend and ate here twice. Once for dinner and the second time for brunch on Sunday. All I can say is YUM! The food was amazing both times. I had filet mignon the first night - it was cooked to perfection and served with asparagus and a loaded bake potato. Makes my mouth water thinking about it. In the morning we had french toast. The best french toast I have ever had! The staff was so friendly and accommodating. If you go to Sutter Creek - make a point to eat at the Hotel Sutter, you won't be disappointed. P.S. My husband and I tried the Hotel Sutter Restaurant last night for dinner. We didn't make reservations and ended up sitting at the bar for dinner. First of all, the atmosphere was great, the staff was friendly and I saw lots of smiles on patrons faces. We had such a good time chatting with Brandon! Not only is he a wonderful bartender but our dinner service by him was excellent. My husband had the lamb shank and I had the Mahi Mahi. We each had Cesar salads. The food was excellent! Brandon was very attentive making sure we had everything we needed . We asked that our dinnner not be rushed because we were having such a good time enjoying our wine and talking. A lot of the time restaurants have a hard time getting it right and our entree comes out while we are still working on the salad. I don't know how Brandon did it but the timing was perfect! We were seated immediately by a very pleasant hostess. However, we then waited...and waited...and waited for a server to acknowledge us. Many walked by, and several even looked right at us. I could see servers at other tables, and they seemed quite friendly and professional. There were two parties seated AFTER us that had servers stop by, yet there we sat. Just when I was beginning to get a complex, thinking we had broken some unknown rule, a manager came and took our order. Whew! Sadly, everything didn't go perfectly after that. We never really had a server, just random managerial types occasionally checking in. I had to flag servers / bussers down if we needed anything. It was rather bizarre. Luckily, the food, for the most part, was TERRIFIC! The poke stack appetizer was better than poke we had in Hawaii! The lamb was flavorful and fall off the bone tender. Portions were quite large, which is rare these days. The accompanying vegetables were fresh, and well prepared. The mashed potatoes were really good, even though they were lukewarm. Sadly, my salmon was a bit dry, and had less than a teaspoon of the delicious chimchurri sauce smeared on top of it. I had to flag down a server to request more sauce - as nobody checked to see that our entrees were acceptable. (I would have ordered a second glass of wine, but, alas, there was no server to request it from.) Our plates were never cleared. I had to flag a manager to request the check. All in all, I would give this restaurant another try, since the food was really good. Since I could clearly see and hear other tables receiving EXCELLENT service, I feel that the poor service we experienced was an anomaly. read more
