Not just a clever name because it's literally in a cellar. Great bar for a quick nightcap and people watching. The pours here are heavy handed which is a plus and the bartenders are super friendly. The layout is great, a few different seating areas with spacious couches and chairs that allow you to sip and watch the game comfortably. The Cellar is pretty solid for being the only bar in Sutter Creek and the only bar in a three-town radius that isn't a complete dive. I've watched this place change from a more traditional bar with pool tables in the back to what it is now, which is sort of a combination of hipster haunt (with preserves decorating the front wall and a great craft beer selection) and weekend club. Seriously, the DJ and the rap battle were not what I was expecting. I'll also give them props for being the only place that serves food past 10 pm in Sutter Creek, even if it is three different fried offerings of a combination of them together. For the most part, the layout is great, the bartenders cheerful, the patrons an interesting mix of regulars and out-of-towners. Very comfy, cool spot to drink and relax. They serve food too, but we just came for drinks. They have a full bar and plenty of beers on tap. They have bar seating as well as couches, soft chairs and tall tables. The staff was friendly and efficient. We left right before the live music started. But they apparently have live bands every Friday and Saturday. We didn't get to experience the upstairs bar/restaurant, but it looked very nice. This is a little bar tucked into he basement of an old building. It's actually really nice and cozy. Nice bar, rock walls, comfortable antique furniture arranged in groups, perfect for having a few drinks and chatting with friends. The weird thing was that they were bumping club music the whole time we were there. Nothing against club music... in the club. But it just felt out of place here in Gold Country. I'll have to check this place out again sometime to get a better feel for it. But it was nice for the short time we were there. read more

We'd give The Cellar 4 stars but the upstairs bar was the worst margarita we'd ever tasted (basically orange juice, the bartender looked like she'd never mixed a drink before) and when we moved into the dining room the food was over-priced and tasteless. (Mashed potatoes were the highlight. Bruschetta, short ribs, and ravioli were all meh.) The worst kind of tourist-area restaurant. read more

This use to be an amazing upscale bar. It had an amazing atmosphere, great drinks, live music and the place to go out in Sutter Creek. The pictures above are not at all representative of what it is rather what it was. It has turned into an expensive dive bar......I'm not sure what the owners are doing? Very cool basement bar with a cool, hipster like vibe. The place was very dark and cozy. There were a lot of mismatched chairs and tables. Lamps were providing soft lighting. The bar was really nice and the bartender took good care of us and was friendly. There were quite a few people in the bar when we were there. Would love to come back again and visit soon. read more

We were there last night. Having a great time dancing and singing after our Christmas party until a local boy with a camo hat decided to stick his hand up my sisters skirt! I told him off, and the locals and the big guy bartending kicked us out and protected him. Y'all be careful going in there...especially the ladies...there's a freak in there so be careful. Y'all will see his name in the local paper as we notified the police and reported back to us this morning. read more

Came here on a Friday night for the live music. The bartenders were really attentive, the music and atmosphere were relaxing, and the drinks were reasonably priced. I will definitely make another visit when I am in the area. read more

Great little spot. Full bar and good beers on tap. We came here after Provisions asked their customers to leave at 5pm because they were concerned that they would get too busy because of an event in town and might get too busy. Eclectic arrangement of home furniture, long bar, good tv's to watch sports. Great! Apparently everyone came to The Cellar after getting booted down the street which was packed but staff did an awesome job of keeping everyone well lubricated and fed. (our food was outstanding for bar food) Try the Brussel sprouts! We asked if they would be closing due to the light parade and they looked at us like we were crazy. We had two wonderful meals here over the weekend. The Cellar was a great place to wait for a table since we did not have a reservation. Anna was a warm and friendly mixologist. When we went back upstairs for dinner Jennie was there to welcome us, explain the specials and give her thoughtful advice. Tommy came to our table and provided recommendations for the next day's wine tastings. The experience and the food were so delightful we went back the next evening and was lucky enough to have Jennie yet again. read more

Just had the best night at the Cellar of Hotel Sutter! The night started off a little shakey thanks to this group of menopausal women (seriously who brings a bell to a bar? Extremely rude and childish.) thankfully they left and the bartenders were able to focus on the customers who weren't verbally berating them. Great place to sit relax and have conversation or just sit back and watch some sports event that might be going on one of their two big screens. There prices on the drinks are very reasonable and the food isn't over priced either. Don't let walking down the stairs scare you it changes as soon as you get to the bottom. read more

Cool (literally) hidden escape from the heat on a recent hot night in Sutter Creek. Comfortable, family room style chairs in this cozy bar below the Sutter Hotel. A wedding party was there celebrating and a guitarist provided a nice musical mix. A perfect night spoiled only by watching the Giants lose to Colorado on the one good-sized TV. read more
