I didn't think the prices matched to the food quality, especially in the appetizers. The menu must have changed recently as none of the featured items during our visit had been reviewed on Yelp. We're visiting Boston for the weekend and stopped here for breakfast. This place felt very upscale, and the staff were very polite. I got their burger and my boyfriend got the pancakes. The burger was very good, I'm not a fan of onions but this was acceptable. My partner wasn't a big fan of the pancakes, they were more on the cakey side. I personally thought they were delicious. Went here yesterday for some drinks. The customer service was great, staff was friendly and the bartender was entertaining. We were seated at the bar and were quickly served. While it is a super cool place, and has an upscale vibe, the drinks honestly were not good. We had the Frostbite Cocoa, Snowgroni, Espresso Martini, and a glass of wine. They honestly do not have a good italian selection which was disappointing. The drinks also were just terrible. The espresso martini was one of the worst ones I've had in boston and I truly would not recommend it. The other drinks were very pretty and presentation was clearly the strong suit, however they were definitely hard to drink. I dont know if the flavors just dont go together or it was made wrong but really the drinks were not good. We did not get any food so we will be back to try but will not be getting drinks next time. read more

Selection of food was limited but we ordered the kale Caesar and it was not dressed that well . The cheese with honey was ok but it was basically cut up cubes with honey --- the waiter was going in and in about this cheese The pastas were all okay and nothing spectacular . The food was pretty good, but service subpar. Within a minute of us sitting down we had a server asking us to order, which continued every 2-3 minutes, then they disappeared and we had to ask for service after that. Also, I have celiac disease and need to eat gluten free, and after confirming this with our waiter (who subsequently confirmed with the kitchen that my order was gluten free), the server brought a dish out and explained it was covered in breadcrumbs. I explained that I couldn't eat breadcrumbs and reminded her about our conversation, and she asked if she could just scrape the breadcrumbs off, something any server at any Boston restaurant I've been to understands is not how you treat food allergies. This tells me the waitstaff is not trained on allergies or dietary restrictions, which is super unusual compared to literally any other sit down restaurant (particularly one charging at this price point) that I've been to in the past 10+ years. I've been to restaurants in the middle of nowhere Arkansas where the staff was more informed. It's a bummer because the food was decent (thus the three stars) but the abysmal service is an embarrassment. I wouldn't eat here even if I were staying at the hotel. read more

An old friend invited us to meet her at Peregrine for dinner. We had never been to Peregrine, and I dread going to a new restaurant, because, so often, it will be noisy, with loud music, loud diners talking over the loud music, and food that isn't as good as what I can prepare at home. What a wonderful surprise it was to dine at Peregrine! First, the room is beautiful, with muted gray walls, tasteful art on the walls, and comfortable seating. The music is also muted, for which I am very thankful. It means no one has to shout in order to be heard across the table. The wait staff is both charming and unobtrusive, engaging when you want them to be, otherwise skillfully invisible. But what about the food? I looked at some Yelp reviews that complained about the food being nothing special. This is not true. The food is not fancy, and if you want to be impressed by the chef's cleverness in combining unlikely ingredients, this is not the place for you. The menu is small and the food is simple, but it is not ordinary. What you get here is home cooking made into art. It is no small accomplishment to prepare a simple dinner and have it be perfect. I had the best polenta I have ever tasted here. My roasted chicken was simple and perfectly cooked. I would be proud to serve guests in my home chicken prepared to this degree of perfection. If fancy is what you are after, go somewhere else, but if what you want is a really delicious, deeply satisfying meal, served by a charming wait staff, in a beautiful, peaceful room, this is the place for you. read more

The experience was very disappointing. I went in for an early morning meal and they weren't at all ready. I was able to sit and wait at the lounge area but one could clearly see that no one was in a rush. Not that one shouldn't do things correctly and safely but slow would be an understatement. The waiter we had was flat affected, cold, and despite the turtle like movements during set up, decided that my group had to order immediately after sitting down and JUST getting menus. He checked on us probably about once and didn't make an effort to hide the fact that he was just standing at the bar area, with his back to us, on his phone for the majority of the time, despite having few other customers. Over all staffing was not great. Minimal pleasantries, didn't feel welcoming at all, no offers for help, little check ins etc. Food: It was decent. But breakfast food isn't particularly hard is it? I will note that their sourdough toast looked amazing and was toasted particularly well. So...the bread worked out I guess. the prices were a steal...for them. 18 dollars for scrambled eggs? 10 dollars for yogurt? 4 dollars for a small glass of juice? Yikes. The quality of the ingredients were fine, certainly, but I guess you are paying more for the "privilege" of dining there. So if you got money to burn, eat here. get some tiny portions for a large price. Business practice: They charge a 7% kitchen staff fee. To add insult to injury, instead of taking ownership of the fact that they refuse to pay their workers a rightful wage, they blame it on the fact that Massachusetts doesn't allow tips to go to kitchen staff. They literally write that on the menu. So of course, they shift it onto the consumer. I have never seen a kitchen fee that high in any other restaurant. It is a bit insane. Hey, since they charge like $8 an egg, you'd think they could afford to increase wages a bit more. Total rip off. I cannot in good conscious recommend coming here for food, unless it was the only place open. With the overpriced food, disgruntled and unprofessional staff, and unnecessary fees, it is simply not worth it. There are plenty of nice restaurants in the surrounding area, try one of those instead. read more

We kicked off our evening with a flight of red wine and a faux Mai Tai. Their roasted chestnuts, although not on an open fire, were a yummy snack. The papperdelle dish with tender chicken, ricotta & brussel sprouts was delicious & flavorful. We ended our evening with a basque style creamy cheesecake that paired well with a decaf cappuccino. My girlfriend and I came here for Sunday brunch and had a great experience. I had the truffle grilled cheese - easily the best grilled cheese sandwich I have had. The bread was perfectly toasted with melted cheese and truffle that oozed inside. My girlfriend had the pomodoro baked eggs. The eggs were perfectly mixed in and sat in delicate pools inside the tomato sauce. Cooked to perfection. The ambience is very cozy. The natural light coming in through the windows from Charles street really makes you feel warm and at home. The design of the tiles and floor patterns are another added touch that puts this restaurant a notch above the rest. The servers were extremely friendly and personable especially Mark who served us and made some suggestions that made our experience that much better. The food is Mediterranean inspired, lots of Italian, Spanish, French, general European influences in the menu choices. Great wine pairings - I got the wine flight (3 generous pours of any three wines - whites or reds - for amount/about the price of 1 glass), and was fun to taste and go back and forth between them with the food. Menu is rotating is what we were told, I had the pork shoulder roulade which had nice farro on the side - the farro was actually the tastiest part (roulade very good but just a bit dry). My boyfriend and I came here for Sunday brunch on a beautiful sunny day. The first thing I noticed was how bright and welcoming and cozy while very tasteful the space was. We sat at the bar and ordered pomodoro baked eggs, the truffle grilled cheese and the yogurt+fruit bowl, with a side of pork sausage patty.. Our waiter Mark was very professional, friendly, and made sure our service was quick. The pomodoro eggs were delicious, they were the right level of spicy, which was well balanced by a hint of balsamic vinegar. The eggs were the perfect level of runny, dipping the toast in them was a delight. My boyfriend loved his grilled cheese, he said it was the best he ever had. The yogurt bowl was with green yoghurt, apples, blueberries and raspberries. There was a drizzle of lemon and honey, and some cinnamon granola. The granola was delicious, I think it complemented the tartness of the yoghurt very well. All in all, an outstanding brunch spot in Beacon Hill that deserves more hype than it gets!! read more

Awful experience. Tried reaching out to restaurant off line, but no response. So reaching out here so at least others are warned. We were a group of 6 at Table 41 which essentially shared space with the lobby couch. I will say that the server did his best, but was clearly short staffed. Otherwise the food was really awful - - The cocktails took forever to get and were totally lackluster without flavor. Mine had a very odd taste and was difficult to drink. We were celebrating a birthday and I didn't want to ruin the vibe by sending things back, but we probably should have. - The "Snack" toasts were comprised of essentially white bread with some butter smeared on a a plate with some dry old appearing anchovies placed on the side. The other "snack dishes" all seems to have the same cheese placed on the plate in no specific order or fashion with some pieces of chocolate that were few and hard to find. The ham was a couple of slices of oily meat and totally gross. All were totally weird and nothing beyond what you might pick up at a supermarket. - The mains were also essentially tasteless across the board. Several of our group had the Papardelle which looked awful and had no taste whatsoever. Just clotted cream on noodles. Hard to eat. My son's hamburger was also standard and essentially just edible. - The deserts were equally forgettable. And the total meal with tip came to about $450!!? We eat at good restaurants all over Boston, and this was one of the worst meals we've had in a long time. Currently it feels like at Peregrine - no one is at the wheel. Steer clear! read more

Peregrine is located in the lobby of the Whitney Hotel. Considering all the good reviews online, I was surprised to find the restaurant pretty when I arrived for my 12.45pm reservation. Our server was very gracious and the service was impeccable. He was very accommodating towards our food preferences. I ordered the jamon omelette with white truffle oil. The eggs were light and fluffy, and the truffle oil, jamon Serrano and grated cheese provided a lot of umami. Toast was drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with some herbs, could be better it was warm and toasted IMO. I appreciated the acidity from the salad in contrast to the richer tasting omelette. My husband ordered the burger and it was cooked exactly as requested - medium. Burger came with salad (same salad that came with the omelette) which was definitely healthier than a side of fries. My friend who hates beans ordered penne + bacon dish without the white beans, not sure if it was because of the special request, but the pasta dish was extremely bland. Definitely not my favorite dish. They make a mean Bloody Mary, definitely my fav thing from brunch! Request for it to be spicy! Yummm read more

Peregrine is a great addition to a neighborhood with limited culinary adventures available. I was excited to visit on their first (official) night (soft-)open. The space is very much integrated into the lobby, and it's pretty small - about 12 two-tops plus the bar. As such, it's definitely not a dimly lit space but that didn't hold it back at all. The courtyard space has eight or ten seats and is adjacent, but there's no table service. The highs? The food. The Sicilian pizza appetizer was incredible. The braised chicken tagliatelle was also so delicious. The wine list has great variety, as do the cocktails. The menu is still pretty small, but I imagine it'll grow as they settle in. I also love their model - they pay their staff well and tip is included in the price (similar to Juliet which is operated by the same team). It takes a mental adjustment to think about the prices but one that's definitely worthwhile. Most of the lows seemed consistent with a newly opened spot. They lost our reservation and we had to wait half an hour. Also, luckily we enjoyed each other's company because we were there for about three and a half hours. Finally, the $10 jamon serrano appetizer had a few chips of ham, but felt like a really small portion for the price. From my perspective, most of those issues are first night jitters so I rounded up not down for my rating. read more

oof -- I hate leaving bad reviews, but I am writing this as a cry for help from management! this restaurant has great potential in a great hotel and location. every single server I talked to was lovely and friendly. but they are DESPERATELY understaffed and unsupported by the kitchen. we waited a long time to order in the first place, a long time for our food, and they only delivered our appetizer after we finished our mains. my main concern is that the food was BAD. every dish was dry, flavorless, and the pappardelle "with chicken" included a few strands of shredded chicken. the prices are laughable for this low quality. I read reviews before we came here and thought "hey, maybe they're wrong!" no. it is genuinely bad. the staff was wonderful, and I am BEGGING management to reevaluate. you can turn it around, but for now, YIKES! read more

Couldn't order a second cocktail because the hotel/ bar employees were all hanging out at a corner table shooting the breeze. Finally walked over and requested our check-after 40 minutes waiting. When the check came-'there was No place for a tip and I saw a notice that the gratuity was Included in prices. I wonder if this why the service is so bad? Spent a full week at the Whitney which is a lovely boutique hotel with an outstanding location. However, the Peregrine restaurant in the hotel has perhaps the worst restaurant service I have experienced in a long while. I gave them several chances to redeem themselves, mostly because with a week stay you just sometimes need a quick meal at the hotel. But each of the four meals I had there-one breakfast and two lunches and one room service, was abysmal. Wrong order, no cutlery, incompetent staff standing around while you sit with empty drinks, no drinks, no check, wrong order, crummy food.....it goes on. Wait staff has no clue about the menu and could care less about the customers. I spent my time waiting for service observing many others experiencing the same while the staff stood in the bar gossiping and goofing around. It's quite sad because it could be great, but instead I am left feeling like I would rather have stayed elsewhere. read more

I live very close to Peregrine, so I've been waiting to try it since long before it opened. Finally made it on a Saturday. It is bright like other reviews say but it didn't bother me. The service still needs some work, but the food was great. It is a small menu, but i prefer that. We split the steak and tHe tagliatelle, and I'd recommend them both. So happy we got to try Peregrine on Beacon Hill at the new hotel at the top of Charles Street! Had high expectations and was pleased when we went in for dinner last week. The service was friendly and non-intrusive, the food was interesting and the wine by the glass list satisfies. Must tries are the bar bites. The roasts are more than worth $4 each and the cocktails are spot on. Love a good whiskey sour, try one here! Also if you are in the mood for a Spritz this is a great place to go as well. The pasta is good but be warned, very filling! Will definitely be back, especially for drinks and snacks at the bar! Can imagine this will be a nice cozy spot in the winter as well! read more

Every time we go, we have a bad experience and say we'll give them a second chance. After 8+ second chances, I'm through with this restaurant. The service is very slow, as there is no incentive to work hard for a tip. The model for this restaurant is to include service in the price of items, so you have no control over tip. It's an admirable approach, but clearly does not work in this location. If you ask for even a slight modulation to the menu (like how you want a hamburger cooked) they will take longer and it will come out incorrect. The food is just "okay" and certainly not a restaurant one should travel to intentionally. Sadly, it looks like the restaurant will stay in business due to single-visits, not repeat customers. Instead, they will pull walk-in traffic and hotel guests. Terrible physical arrangement for cocktails, even though this could have been their bread-and-butter. We were once told to give our names just to sit at the bar! For a restaurant that was built from the ground up in 2019, they sure need to go back to the drawing board. read more

All I can say is wow. Most Italian places in Boston I feel are pretty standard in terms of menu selection but the garlic gulf shrimp appetizer was absolute perfection and an absolute must! The oil sauce was very very good and the potatoes with it were cooked perfectly so they had a crisper side but still soft. I do wish the accompanying bread was a bit softer to soak up the oil better and be a little easier to bite into. The tagliatelle pasta was absolutely amazing along with the mussels and clam dish. The portions are very large, I was expecting them to be half-3/4 what it was. Prices for what you get are well worth it between the food menu options/quality as well as portion size. The restaurant itself is very small but very nice aesthetically and quiet, not super dark lighting. I'll definitely be back and highly recommend it. read more
